Hi,
is there a possibility to install a custom and still have text prediction?
I like several custom roms, but the fact that I don't have text prediction (in dutch) always makes me switch back to stock, which is a shame ...
any help would be really appreciated, as i can't find any answers on the board or anywhere else ...

Hi,
I have read several old threads about this topic, but in non was a satisfing answer. So I decided to pose the Question more direct.
Under Cyanogen 4.2.2 it makes no difference what so ever what I select as system language the Keyboard is always qwerty and the wordsuggestions "english".
So is there a way to change it, that I don't get, without loading and Market Keyboard.

Well, I had the same problem. I just installed TouchPal which is a free, great default keyboard replacement.

Hi there,
I am new to Android, I have to say I am still not 100% happy with it, I am not satisfied with some features like calls log, sms app and particulary the HTC keypad.
The Android 2.3.3 default keypad looks far better, is there a way to put it back on the Desire S ?
I know other keypads are available on the market, I think I'll go to get rid of the HTC soft, so I my Desire S would look like a Nexus S...
Dunno if it's even possible, and I saw a lot of discussions about S-OFF or S-ON, so I checked on my phone but it's S-ON :/
Thanks for reading
Yes, very easy !
Donwnload the app "Gingerbreag keyboard" in the Market and select it like your keyboard in settings. DONE !
Thank you I'll check it shortly

Click to collapse
Well what did you make of it, do you prefer it over the Sense keyboard ? Any screen shots ?
I don't use my Desire S yet, because I don't like the sense menus, like contacts or call manager (this is still a phone afterall)...
I tried to install some alternate solutions but the sense is deeply integrated and you can't get rid of it, adding other tools just slow down the performances.
I am french, and the thing that disturb me the most in the sense keyboard is that the "m" letter is located just near the "n" letter, like on qwerty keyboard, whereas it is should be located next to the "l" letter on azerty keyboards.
So I am now waiting for the S-OFFing tool to be avaible so I can get back to a naked rom.
Install the MultiLing keyboard (market) and you can have a French keyboard layout
These are questions about the stock android keyboard (using jelly bean 4.2 keyboard):
1. How can I modify the language files to create a custom language (for example, I want to stop switching back and forth between languages and have a "SPANGLISH" (english and spanish) hybrid dictionary that auto suggests and corrects at least semi-decently when I switch languages 2 or 3 times per sentence without having to switch the keyboard language back and forth so often... Right now what I do is have both english and spanish with auto correction, and a third language option that doesn't auto correct my typing (but still annoyingly underlines the supposedly misspelled words). Ideally, I want to type my spanglish and have android be cool with it and correct misspelled words. Possible now as is, or would some new coding be required?
2. Can I train or modify the word suggestions in the android keyboard standard languages? I notice a few fairly annoying things like when I type in US ENGLISH the word "dont" (without an apostrophe), autocorrect changes the word to "DONT" (upper case, no apostrophe). Why would it think that when the all upper case DONT is not in any custom dictionary either.
3. Finally, and a little unrelated perhaps but just getting all my keyboard annoyances out of the way... Is there any way to get the stock keyboard to expand text (like auto-text in blackberry).. Such as typing "ttyt" gets replaced by "talk to you tomorrow".. ?
Have searched everywhere on xda and other forums and engines and haven't really found an answer.. but maybe I'm just not looking for the right keywords.. Am willing to get my hands dirty about this if nothing easy and readily available exists if someone can please point me in the right direction. Thanks!
Nobody? A lead, a hint?
Hi,
I use embryo 6.6 and its just fine rom.
The only problem is it doesnt have hebrew (not in the keyboard also)
And when I'm trying to install a hebrew keyboard from playstore, the sms text I send is question marks and not letters.
The very intresting thing is that most of jelly bean roms includ hebrew build-in( and alot of other language ) But I have very bad call quality with them.
I have to stay with embryo 6.6 because of the good call quality, stock is also fine but have the same problem with hebrew..
Maby I can take lang pack from one rom and put it on mine rom?
Thank you
There was a stock JB Google keyboard in the apps and themes section in which you can add languages...I use that and added Arabic to it and it works fine beside English...
Let me know if you find it, or I upload it to you...
Edit: Why don't you also try to add Hebrew in the new Swype from languages list ?
Oh..for the sms issue, go to messages settings and choose auto in input mode....
You're searching for answers to the wrong problem.
No matter what keyboard or ROM you're using, go to SMS settings and switch "Encoding" from "Automatic" or whatever it is on to "Unicode". That will solve your Hebrew turning to question marks issue.
And now you can use any Samsung ROM and any keyboard. Enjoy.
UI 2.1 screwed up my Keyboard history including all emails and emoji and all other stuff. Is there anyway to get it back?
Also new keyboard not remembering stuff for repeat words. I got a type everything lol.
Anyone else in a same boat?
For me too,
And another thing, in the word suggestions, it does not separate languages. I have 2 languages and switched between them with the space key if i to write in a language or another, and now it just suggests for both languages, and clutters the suggestion word list.
