In terms of battery life, CPU performance and other functions that make it a good phone...
It depends what you are going to use your phone for and it basically comes down to personal preference. I have a hTC Desire and i think its the best phone i have ever owned. I rooted it and i am running AuraxTSense, a custom ROM, if your new to Android, if you root your phone you void the warranty and in the process you carry what ever risks come with it. Good OEMS to do research on are Samsung, Motorola, hTC & LG. They have handsets catered to every type of user.
Captivate! Hands down.
I'm a fan of the samsung fascinate. Check it out!
Well, I love the spex of my atrix

Like the posts above it depends. Without the devs my Epic is trash. With the devs and custom roms that phone is amazing plus its damn near impossible to brick it and thats a huge plus

Samsung Vibrant
I have yet to install other ROMs on it, as i am having trouble, but until then i have the android OS 2.2 Froyo on my vibrant with T-Mobile. The Battery power isn't fantastic, wont last longer than a day, sometimes not a full day, but the music, web, and apps are great! I hear some ROMs are great for battery power so if they really do help, the vibrant is a great phone.
Galaxy s.

Samsung Galaxy is nice. You can go for HTC models also.
oh come on guys its the {Samsung Nexus S}
I can suggest you motorola or acer (Better in my region but assistance will be little bad)
htc desire, highly recommended!samsung builds quality phones as well but they are the worst when it comes to longtime support of their hardware (not that it matters when you are on xda already ;-) )
Nexus S .
I vote Nexus S. I've owned a lot of android phones and this thing is hands down the absolute best. Lack of SD card annoys a lot of people though.

I think I would go with Galaxy S
I would wait for the EVO 3d
if the thunderbolt had at least a 1600mah battery it would win for sure even now its a beast. but when the evo 3d comes out it will be the **** (specs wise +1730mah batt)

I'm using an x10. Wouldn't advise this, tbh, but thanks to XDA I've had 2.2 and 2.3 roms, and it's a beautifully built phone. Basically, you need to find out what you need from your phone. If it's only calls/txts you need, get a Nokia 3310: it does the job admirably(still). But if you want to browse, check emails, play games, personalize, experiment, annoy your wife/girlfriend/kids, get any android phone that is gonna be supported beyond 2.1 Or if the latter parts don't apply, get an iOS or symbian phone...

Htc incredible, 'nuff said lol great phone, cpu is super fast 8gb of internal memory. 8 megapixels camera, high resolution screen. Unlike the samsung galaxy phone IT has a double flash. I'm just saying

I am planning on getting either phone.
Which phone do you think is better and WHY?
Nexus s. Pure Google experience. Get updates much faster, such as Ice Cream Sandwich. G2x seems very problematic from what I have heard. The screen on nexus is better, the only thing going for the g2x is the processor and slightly faster data speeds.

G2x is galaxy S 2 rite?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I've had the G2x i traded to the Nexus S
They're about equally matched
The G2x doesnt have reboot issues anymore (after update)
at first, when dual-core was bleeding edge, it had some problems
The screen is slightly curved on the edges
1080p video
Dual-core tegra 2 (my Nexus S outscored the tegra 2 in Quadrant Video subsection)
Screen is average
Less plasticy then the Nex
Speaker is not loud at all
LG doesnt give the best tech support
The Nexus S will get updates faster
No Micro SD (16GB built in at high speed)
NFC (Google Wallet+MasterCard/PayPass)
No 720p video
Screen is amazing, pentile may look funny the first 2 days, but i cant even tell the difference anymore..
Curved glass feels nice on your fingers
Minor WiFi reception problems
It all depends on what you want. I traded a used G2x for a new in-box Nexus S. I just love the AMOLED screen, you cant tell where the screen ends, that's how good the contrast ratio is

No, its an LG Optimus G2x.
The Galaxy S 2 is a GS2.
But thanks guys .. still wondering. Its hard when you want a phone thats going to last you a bit.
Heres how I see it:
nexus s: Better battery, better screen, nicer design.
g2x: Better performance, more powerful phone, better build quality.
So here i am trying to get convinced lol.
Wow i have had both phones & j was happy with my g2x after i learned how to root n upgrade to g.b. but the nexus is kind of faster. I think either phone is good but there's more dev & mods on the g2x.
This is because the nexus s everything works out the box.
Plus you know were gonna be 1 if the 1st to get ics.

Come back in six months when your G2x still does not have ICS. Why not wait for the nexus prime?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
i used tge G2x and currently now im on Nexus S. These are the reasons i didnt like G2x:
-Battery Life is not as good as Nexus S.
-The LCD is actually really nice and bright, how ever the pixel density and image quality are no where near as good as Nexus S.
-To be really picky, the phone is awkward shaped and proportioned, its too tall for its screen size
+every other reason people have mentioned, HOWEVER i didnt have a single known issue problem with mine
hope this helps

Dude, I did the same thing –bought a G2x and a Nexus S on Craigslist and have been playing with them for about week now. G2X, rooted and ROMed, is fast, stable and a nice looking machine. On the right ROM, the battery can last all day, evening with streaming music, calls and texts, and still be half full. The camera is fargging great, too. There are two complaints I have. One is that the G2x feels a little awkward in my hand, especially compared with the curved Nexus S, which fits perfectly. The G2x is just a millimeter or two too wide for a comfortable grip for me. The other is the ICS situation. I’m sure the G2x devs will get ICS onto the phone via Cyanogen or whatever, but because LG won’t be open with certain drivers it’s uncertain whether ICS will be able to take full advantage of the phone. Oh yeah, and the comment about the sound issue is accurate, too. Although sound clarity is great, the speaker is quiet – if you’re in a crowd or noisy room, it can be a little difficult to hear who you’re talking to.
Basically, you can’t go wrong with either phone. I’ll probably hang on to both until it becomes more clear how the ICS situation plays out and then sell one of them.
Honestly, I dont even care about ICS lol .. I just want an all around better phone.

See that is why ics is so important. The UI will be hardware accelerated giving you the smoothest experience possible. Hardware acceleration on a single core will blow away a software accelerated dual core.

I was in the same position as you a while ago. I got a Optimus 2X (AT&T bands) with CM7 and it just wasn't good. Short battery life, GPS problems, reboots and some other small stuff that made it not worth it. Switched back to my CM7 Nexus One and remembered Nexus is always the way to go and waited until I could get meee Nexus S

Might have a chance to buy one or the other for about the same price.. now that theres ICS for nexus, seems like it might just be great, but Sensation is better hardware-wise and with CM7.1, it seems like Sensation may just be awesome..
so any opinion is welcome
Posted this on Nexus S forum as well
Thanks!
oh and i currently have a Vibrant so either of them is an upgrade
You should go with the Sensation. Hardware-wise, it's leaps and bounds ahead of the Nexus S, and ICS is coming as early as January (You'd figure as much if some carriers are going to push it out in February). CM9 or Sense 4.0 with the Sensation - both equally as exciting. That's just me though.

#GS has AMOLED(WVGA) vs SLCD(qHD) in a time of HD displays....
#Sensation has more RAM(should help in ICS & higher versions)
#Humming vs S3(Power VR is on par w/ 220 when OC'd & the dual core is much faster on ICS)
#Design(Contour is nice for phone calls)
#Resale vale(GS would be worth less next year if you sell it then)
#DualGPS(Only in S3 chips, so you will have fast GPS!)
#GS is related to GN in a way, allows GN roms to work on it!

In cause you were unsure
GN: G Nexus; GS:meant Nexus S, my bad
S3:Soc/Chip in HTC phones; Hummingbird:1GHz Single used in Sammies
220: Adreno 220, it should have similar speed to the GPU in Galaxy Nexus
I'm also an AOSP guy but I'm using Sense right now cause the AOSP camera blows. I'm really hoping Sense 4.0 is a major update/upgrade. It'd be cool if it was a ground-up rewrite, as well as changing the color scheme to match ICS. A gray/white/black/blue sense would be cool.

i had a nexus s before and now sensation...one thing about the question, it's like asking if you will buy a pentium 4 computer or a core2duo computer with higher ram...well nexus s imo is a decent equipment but the same as Galaxy S with NFC chip...Nexus S is comparable to Desire HD but DHD is still faster and smoother even with sense...Sensation itself with stock rom is not that fast...BUT come ICS it's gonna be a different story....
Probably sounds retarded but, I've always wanted a nexus. I'm on T - Mobile and i'm not getting a galaxy nexus any time soon for the price it is right now. I can trade my sensation for a nexus S, but dont know if it will be worth it. So can people voice their opinions? I know the difference in hardware between the two but i just want people to give me opinions.
it's a matter of taste i think..
if i were you, i would make that trade. i like the nexus more, but probably ask for a bit cash too.
i mean, the sensation is around 200.- more expensive here
so a trade sensation for nexus s +100 bucks would be fair

Having updates on time is the only perk of Nexus S while sacrificing everything else. (Camera, Processor, Build Quality, etc.)
I don't think it's worth your time.
Isn't there already ICS ROM's for Sensation?
Personally I'd never trade in for an out of date phone, save some pennies and go for the galaxy nexus. I agree the only advantage would be quicker updates but surely your phone is getting official ics soon anyway?

like i said, its a matter of taste.
if you like the nexus more (like i do) trade it for the phone AND money, or it would be a bad deal for you
even if the sensation has better hardware, i dont think that you will notice any loss in smoothness when using the nexus. the nexus even is smoother when both are on stock roms..
So I side purchased a HTC sensation to compare wit our G2x and I have to say the G2x is not even comparable with it. The games run so horrible laggy on the sensation and the screen is so unclear compared to IPS display. The only good thing is the camera and even so it still performs horribly in dark places compared to the great flash and focus of the G2x. Here is where Tegra's chip making is superior and I noticed everything from battery life to app loading, multi tasking and even ICS performance was better even if the Sensation has leaked official firmware. So props to all the devs that have made our G2x comparable to such phones as the HTC Sensation and more.

Yes, full s-off & ran various gingerbread systems including sense, stock, aosp, and miui. But to be fair, since I'm running CM9 on my G2x I loaded Android Revolution ICS Sense 3.6 and even alpha Sense 4.0 to compare ICS functionality. Through out 2 weeks I tested battery life and that's how I came to the conclusion that the G2x is overall better. Their is way more devs on the sensation but because of the size most of each ROM or mod is very unsupported unlike our community where we have a few but very dedicated devs with amazing rom's.

The G2X does have a better display i feel, the hi rez evo 3d one was ehhhh.....
i do miss the larger screen just a little bit but not too much. for me...(abq, nm) I finally get 4g ish speeds. usually 3-5 mbits down everywhere in my city.

I love the qHD rez of the Sensation, but after playing with them for around 15 minutes, I liked the G2X more. The screen is brighter, clearer, I like the aesthetics of it, and the 1.3 mp FFC compared to the VGA on the Sensation. The Sensation was thinner I think, but also a bit slower. Not sure if this had to do with Sense running the whole time or the Snapdragon CPU being crap. It has 768 MBs of RAM compared to our 512, so I thought it would handle multitasking better.

I really wanted the sensation because I do like the look of the HTC devices. Now I want an Amaze but I am very content with the G2x. May pick one up to play around with at some point.
At one point of time I swore by HTC device. After exploring around with different manufacturers ie Samsung, LG etc. I'm not so thrilled by their lower hi class devices such as the Sensation, Evo 3D etc.
I have had my share of ppcs, androids and etc. I adore the performance of my G2x and tegra 2.

+1 I've owned HTC, Samsung and LG devices and I would put HTC's hardware as dead last out of the bunch. I use a co-worker's Sensation pretty often and there is no comparison between the two devices. The camera, the lone redeeming quality of the Sensation, takes pictures that look good on the device, but terrible once you view them in full size on a tablet or computer. I was tempted to get a Sensation when I bought the G2X because it had a fully functional ICS ROM (albeit one that is a Sense ROM with Sense stripped instead of AOSP). I'm glad I chose the G2X. The Sensation is not a bad phone, just not a great one either.
