I've only been able to find a few and you'd think there would be plenty of them. I'd kind of like to make the top notification bar black but the ones that I've tried keep the clock black. I've done a lot of searching and can't seem to find anything. I appreciate any responses!
the best luck i had for putting themes on 1.6 AOSP was with using MetaMorph. its super simple and quite awesome. There is a link to it in the hero themes forum. I don't think I ever saw anything for a black notification bar though...
Yeah, I know how to apply the themes.. I just don't know how to make them or, obviously, find them. Haha.
And can we use Stericson's lock screen with this? Thanks for the help!!!
EDIT: I posted the wrong link... this is some 2.0 for 1.6 stuff and this is the collection of stuff I was trying to find earlier.
as for Stericson's lock screen, I think the answer is no. I looked into it when I was using 1.6 but everything I read suggested that his screen was built for other roms and no the AOSP build.
but, if you're feeling froggy, do a nandroid backup and give it a whirl. worst comes to worst, restore your backup...
I have tried numerous metamorph themes modifying the framework-res.apk, and they seem to apply just fine (metamorph gives me a "succesfully applied" notification). The thing is, once I reboot, nothing changes . I was working on modifying the lockscreen, and everything applied well, but it didn't show a difference. I figured I must have messed something up, so I applied another person's lockscreen mod and it acted in the exact same way. This is really frusturating me cause I have been working on different solutions for the past 2 hours, and nothing seems to be working.
I am using GB 2.3 (latest release), and do have a different theme applied using theme chooser, but as far as I am aware, it has no affect on the lockscreen files. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great!
Thanks in advance!

There's 5 versions of GB, which ROM do you have? And if you are using a theme it's important to know which one. Also, maybe throw some links up to the actual morphs you're using. Also, what exactly are you trying to do? Like what's the morph changing specifically. I mod my frameworkres.apk and SystemUI.apk manually with every flashover, (using aospCMod 3/26 and "androidian" from theme chooser) so *maybe* I can help.
I am using the rom on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864403
(AOSP 2.3.3 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [03/26/2011]).
I am using this "theme chooser" theme (Honeycomb Hero)
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965216) (the one for CM7, obviously)
I tried to apply this lockscreen theme (MDPI version)
since it was targeting the same thing that I was working on; this was my test to see if it was my theme that was messed up, or if it was something else.
I am wanting to simply change the green unlock icon that you slide to unlock your phone, which is located in:
framework-res/res/drawable-land-mdpi
Hope this helps; thanks again.
I've used the lockscreen morph you're trying to apply on the same Rom a couple versions ago... I forgot which one but after reading some posts in the thread when I tried it on later versions it just didn't work because the framework has changed (i think) cuz it didn't work for me either. So you would probably have to post your framework in that thread & ask the op to make the new morph for you to work. I don't think its user error or anything like that. Hope that helps ...I really liked that lockscreen when it still worked on like 3/18 or somethin

Yeah thats something I might do too. I'm just wondering why the images that I edited aren't being changed. Maybe ill do a flash or push framework over, but that seems riskier. Thanks for the input

Hello all,
New to the forums and I'm pretty much a complete newb to smart phones as well (I haven't had a cell phone in close to 5 years lol). Anyway, got a Galaxy S2 a couple weeks ago, started wondering about customization, etc and ran into this site.
Looking at some of the home screens you guys come up with, they are amazing.
But, I honestly have no idea where to start to make my own. Do I need to root my phone to do this stuff? Or, is it as simple as downloading some themes and icons and installing them?
I don't mind reading and/or teaching myself how to do it, but, if someone could just point me the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers.
actually , you have no need to root your phone if you just want to change some icons or themes , but you may change your launcher so you can use those themes or dock icons that you have download in xda .
Try different launchers to replace your standard home, they're all good. Adw is what I normally use, launcher pro is good, go launcher also.
sinkster
I was actually curious about this too. I like PyroMod, but I think the Opacity of the windows should be closer to 80% and the notification fonts should be white instead of black. What specifically do I need to modify for this to work?
Thanks for the replies.
I downloaded and installed Launcher Pro, just to try...I have read about ADW and a couple others that I will try as well once I get the hang of this thing.
Are there any problems that may pop up with the phone using 2 launchers? I guess not or you guys wouldn't be using them.
im using launcher pro and zeam launcher and i had no problems so far
Without rooting, you can change icons on your homescreen (using a home replacement app and/or Desktop Visualizer), use modified widgets as long as they're not system apps, customize your lock screen with WidgetLocker, and of course change your wallpaper. You can also use something like Multipicture LWP to do a bit more creative stuff - like embedding icons on the wallpaper in PS and stuff.
With rooting you can do all of those things, plus modify your status bar & notification icons, change icons for apps officially (not just on the homescreen), modify system apps or remove them, etc etc. If you have no reason to root, don't. It's a common misconception that you have to root to make your phone look good. While it definitely helps, it's not necessary.
If you do plan on rooting and are interested in theming, see if MIUI is available for your device. You may like it, and the theming possibilities are endless. If you don't like it or it isn't available, other roms have theming built in as well - CM7 is one that comes to mind.

Rooting might be something I would think about down the road, but, being so new to this I will probably hold off for now. I wouldn't mind unlocking it at some point though as I do travel to the States a couple times a year and would like the freedom that provides for my trips.
Thanks for the detailed reply, it is appreciated and I will look into some of those apps that you mentioned.
So I searched up and down for my answer, could not find, if im THAT blind I do apologize lol.
I have rooted my HTC Inspire 4G (At&T) with Ace Hack awhile ago and just pretty much used it just to change fonts...I was looking for some themes to install onto my phone but I was wondering if the themes had to be spacifically for Ace Hack? Also, I know you can change fonts and remove stock apps ect. with a rooted phone but can I change font color or would that depend on the app I install?
Thank you for taking time to read and/or answer!

wait, wut? The Ace Hack Kit has nothing to do with changing themes. Basically you have some options. Some ROMs have themes built specifically for them. ARHD for instance has some themes that can be flashed. You can also use the UOT kitchen to customize a theme for yourself, it may not be as inclusive as a true theme but it does a good job at getting almost ever aspect. You can also use a different launcher, i.e. Go Launcher or something different, and they have themes for each launcher.
Fonts can be changed by using the font installer app. the color of the font depending on what font you're talking about can be changed with UOT kitchen or with a theme you use. Hope that helps!

haha not a problem! yeah ROM specific themes are few and far between, especially since the ROMs are updated often which sometimes causes changes in framework which in return causes the new to update the theme. You can always try ADW launcher, they too have some themes. If you aren't opposed to CM based ROMs I know they have a theme chooser app as well. UOT though seems to be the best option short of learning to theme that gives you the most customizable experience.
I am wondering if it's possible to do something like modify the quick settings tiles or add lockscreen shortcuts via mods. With root apps like Greenify and now App Ops being available, I'm seeing very little reason to flash a custom ROM and instead stay with the stability of stock. But there are still a couple UI modifications that would be nice, one of them is quick settings changes, another is lockscreen shortcuts. If decompiling/converting to Java source files works well enough, or if you simply took a recompiled jar straight from source, is it possible to take code with modifications like this and replace a jar or two to get these changes? Or is a ROM/Xposed the only way to get changes like these? Seems like it should be possible if you have the source code for the change and a deodexed ROM.
Any ideas about this? I know there are mods for little UI things...can the same be done for things like the quick settings tiles?

Haven't seen anything like this.
Custom ROMs out there are extremely stable. I've been running Beanstalk since the first release by @soupysoup and it's been great. Constant updates make it even better.
I'd give it a shot if I were you.
