Best options for international calling?

Hey guys, I'm leaving to study abroad in a few days. I'll be gone until January and I was wondering what my cheapest options are for making phone calls/sms both in my host country and home.
I currently have a myTouch 3G that I'm taking with me. I also have Skype on my laptop with unlimited calls to US/Canada. Is there any way to make skype calls using my phone?
Any other options?
Abroad, always look for a hotspot to connect to internet with your smartphone via wifi...then you can place calls with a sip provider like voipbuster, justvoip, etc. threw programs like fring or Nimbuzz.
Make sure to disable 3g, 2g, etc when abroad to avoid extra roaming kosts
Google Voice
Call t mobile and get your unlock code and get cell coverage there from a local provider. preferably pree paid so you don't go way over your budget with calling the stats.

Bell Canada & VOIP on mobile phone

I have an Android mobile phone with unlimited data and i was able to setup a VOIP on my phone using a free provider using a program such as CSipSimple or Sipdroid and it worked.
I noticed some places it said that some providers don't allow VOIP though the 3g network so I called bell and asked them if I was allowed to do it, they passed me around for a bit and did not really give me a proper answer.
Does anyone know if they allow, disallow or just dislike VOIP.

WiFi Calling

Does anyone know how to enable the internet calling for the Sensation? I live in the Netherlands and have Vodafone. I have a data plan where I am allowed to use it, just see a bunch of empty fields in the settings and wasn't sure what I should put here to enable it.
Apologies I used the wrong wording when titling this thread.
Before someone pays no attention to the body of the op's posts, he's asking about voip/sip.
Sorry I can't help much, but maybe my sentence above will help people get you the info you desire.

Yeah it says to add your account settings and I don't know what those are. Will probably pay a visit to Vodafone later today.
I think you are mixing up two separate things:
1. WIFI Calling is a way to use your Mobile Operator's services via any wifi network. In this case to connect to Vodafone NL not through cell transmission but wifi. To the best of my knowledge, only Orange UK have this service in Europe.
2. Internet Calling: Using a 3rd party as VoIP provider. You need to subscribe to such a service. Your chosen provider will give you a username, password and his domain. You enter these into Settings>Call>Internet Calling and you can then use the service. There are alternative SIP/VoIP apps that can easily be found in the Android Market.

Yes I guess I did have them mixed up. Thanks for the info!

[Q] MT7-TL10 B121 build-in SIP - No Sound

Have anyone tried to use build-in SIP client aka Internet calling? In my case it works, but without any sound. It doesn't matter if it's over WiFi or mobile network, so it's not network configuration. And yes, I've tried both UDP and TCP options. Even more, build-in SIP on Samsung on the same network, with the same SIP provider and with the same Android 4.4.2 works perfectly. Third-party clients are working also, but it's not convenient.
Any thoughts?
Hi Myxolove
I was also keen on using the internal SIP client after I purchased the phone, it did not work same problems, i am on MT7-TL09
where did you get TL10 ? it is only released TL09 on the offical webpage., i just checked.
Which Solution did you use?
I have a SIP Phone number for one free provider called sipgate and one or two SIP callout accounts with betamax, which i pay
which would be a good client for me? i really want to use internet calling again its sooooo cheap
thanks and best regards, ant0n
Yes. I also have same issue with my Huawei Ascend Mate7. I contacted my VOIP provider (peenytel) , the asked me to configure following
("Kindly go to settings on your phone and go to audio configurations and select
codec of G711Alaw or G711Ulaw and reboot your phone and make a test call.")
but I can't find this feture with my SIP seeting. I guess that it is the reason for what we are experience.
