[Q] Upgrade to 2.3.4 from CM7/KD1 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Folks,
I have a T-Mobile Nexus S (guess that makes it a i9020T) running CM7 7.0.2 and with the radio manually upgraded to KD1. What is the best way to upgrade to Android 2.3.4? Is it safe to downgrade the radio to KB1 and the system to GRI40 and go from there? Or is it better to wait for a new version of CM7?

Flash 2.3.3 stock, or use a 2.3.3 nandroid backup then upgrade, otherwise I think it won´t work.

But wouldn't that also downgrade the radio? I'm worried because on my previous phone (Motorola DEXT) a radio downgrade would be a sure way to brick the device. Is it safe on the Nexus S?

I've downgraded/upgraded the radio countless times to get a feel with each version.
Format /system, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, then flash 2.3.4 full ROM, you should be good to go.
Or you can restore a 2.3.4 nandroid backup found in the dev section.

2.3.4 is not using an older radio version, I think...
But I did a manual update, went ok; the only thing I had to do was set the correct APN settings.

GPS Problem

Hello,
I have a rooted htc magic with radio 6.35/ spl 1,76
My phone's GPS was working perfectly with official senseUI rom (android 1.5)
Yesterday I installed serpei's 2.1 android and then I wiped out the data and install marsdroid (android 1.6).
Then I return back to the official (1.5) as it feels more stable but GPS stopped functioning correctly. I also try to hard reset and rebooting the device with GPS on but again no luck.
Please help!
Did u wipe everything? Because if u didn't wipe ext and dalvick there may be your problem. Or get the new 2.21.... radio if you know what your doing. Last resort though

When You back from 2.1 to 1.5/1.6 You must reflash radio/spl to have functioning gps

Yes... and then flash rom which You want
here is a hint. I'm sure you flashed the wrong radio ;p if you dont flash a radio compatible with your country phone edition it wont work at all and will remain off.
Try confirm wich Radio version is compatible with your HTC. Whats your phone edition/model and where was it made?
You not only have the wrong radio... But if you dont have all 6 options to wipe, you are running a very outdated recovery.
Check top stikies of this forum to flash the new 1.6.2
So I have radio 6.35.10.18 and spl 1.76.2007 (eng)
It's a 32A phone

Without having any intentrion of personal confrontation you people should actually read, what someone writes before hypothetizing or saying you' re sure about this or that. The problem with this kind of behaviour is that you'll propose solutions without actually knowing the facts. This may lead to troubles for the owner.
He had the official HTC ROM (everything worked fine) and then he flashed 2 custom ROMs (Sanpei's and Marsdroid's) without changing radio or SPL. So you would expect that when flashing the original ROM, everything would work fine.
You don't have to wipe all 6 options. What is the point of wiping the external partition, if you don't have one. FYI he has the latest 1.6.2 Hero recovery ROM (it's the Hero one because he has the new radio 6.35.xx.xx).

Hello I'll try explain why i say the radio. Each rom has compabilities issues to certain radio. For example, the radio 6.35.10.xx is compatible for canada ROM therefor GPS will work, but if he uses a 6.35.08.xx GPS wont work. But if he uses a ROM based on European ROM it'll work.
I Passed throw this i know what i'm talking about. Unless he has a malfunction onthe phone, he has for sure the wrong ROM. Doesnt matter if before worked on another ROM. Matters where that ROM edition is from (Base rom), that is important for the ROM Funcionalities, the radio edition of that rom zone will be resposible for GPS+PHone functionalities over GSM CDMA HSDPA ... etc
I understand he might not have changed ROM, but he should try change radio since as rule, the radio he is using wont work on European ROM. (Its a fact i've "tested" =P)
About wiping theory, the only wiping you have to do is to Dalvik Cache; SD ext* (only if you have); Factory Reset. (The rest are options you dont need to do that, but if you want to feel safer about it, enter in fastboot mode, and writte fastboot erase system –w (it'll delete everything , user.img system.img userdata.img but this isnt necessary, wipping those 2 is more than enought) and then you can install your rom.
Hope i have helped best regards
Hi,
I have already try "fastboot erase system –w" but again no luck.
How can I wipe the Dalvik Cache?
With radio 6.35.10.18 and spl 1.76.2007 the official senseUI (1.5) was working fine. The problem occur after the downgrade back to 1.5.
that option is only to delete the system but,
i'll try explain wich steps you should have to help you fix, please tell me what is the oficial sense ui version you are using?

I will also try this
alright friend, you've got same edition as i do. YEsterday i had this issue about the radio you only have to flash the radio to the edition i told you. Follow this steps for ROM instalation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621890
Install the radio wich comes on the zip. You'll see everything will be fine
Post results after you are done remember is the other radio ;P regards
So first I can try to wipe out the Dalvik Cache and run the fastboot erase command.
If this won't solve the problem I will continue with the other solution.

OMG, just listen to him already! You JUST need to reflash the radio for it to work again!

[Q] CM7 and Rom Updates

Okay, I have successfully rooted my inspire 4g and installed cm7 killer llama v2 on it.
However, I am now interested in updating to the latest RC or nightly of cm7. To update would I simply launch Rom Manager and install the rom that I wish? Do I need to wipe my phone before/after the new rom is installed? For backups I already have titanium backup run and I have titanium sync back it up to dropbox.
Also... is it worth bothering with the radio or kernel versions? Or does the kernel change with each rom?
Thanks in advance for all of the help.
1. Download CM7 RC4 from ROM Manager, but don't flash it from there, as this is more of a chance of a brick, due to the CM7 you're running being customized, go into ClockWorkMod, and choose wipe /data and wipe /cache. Then find the folder the downloaded update is in and use CWM to flash it.
2. NEVER backup/restore system data in Ti Backup between two different ROMs, it will mess things up.
3. Sometimes the kernel changes. (If something needs fixing, or if the dev is just improving the kernel and its capabilities)
4. If you have Radio S-OFF and ENG S-Off I recommend the 12.41.60.19U_26.06.04.14_M radio for all gingerbread ROMs.
Okay, thank you very much for the detailed reply. So if I flash a new rom after wiping data and cache, will I need to reinstall and reconfigure all of my apps?

rom update question

hey folks,
just flash my first rom, miui .24. Now to do so I was stock 2.2, flash using odin to stock 2.1. ran miui from sd and stuck with the base kernal. Now an update to miui will be coming down soon, so if I want the cleanest install possible, should I reflash using odin to stock, then install miui (updated version)? I know you can get away with wiping dalvik and user settings, but I dont' really find it a hassle to flash clean and restore apps from titanium. I do hear mention of nandroid. Any info would be appreciated.

[Q] My HTC sensat. is not starting after install ICS 4.1.1

I downloaded the newest version after trying former releases.
But my phone does not come further now than beats audio.
I am waiting for an hour now and nothing happens.
Have I done something wrong or did I forget something.
I unlocked my phone with revolutionary and than I installed the different versions on a row. Please can anybody help me, I could not find any answer in forums.
Did you install the new firmware first?
If not, reflash your nandroid backup and start over with the FW flashing first.

baseband i9020xxjk8.
I've rooted phone with One-Click, backed up ESP folder and installed clockworkmod 4.0.2 with sticky recovery , im running currently Nscollab 1.6.0.
I live in UK.
I would like to flash ics custom room and i have few question;
-Can i use this clockworkmod to flash ics or d does it have to be 5.0.2?
-do i have to partition my sd storage or is it enough to just wipe cache/dalvik and factory reset?
-do i have to flash new radio or can i stay with my current i9020xxjk8?
If i have to flash new radio, what's benefit are like from having new radio?

1. Yes that would be a good choice since, what ive heard is a must?
2. No you dont, just a wipe of FR, cache, sometime dalvik in my opinion.
3. No, you can stay on your current radio. Depends in what country you live. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 Read that

Check this thread for the most recent radios.
Use clockworkmod recovery from the market to flash the latest recovery. Download and install an ICS ROM!
