Difference between Nexus S i9020 and Nexus S i9020T ? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im from Spain (Europe) and I want to buy a Nexus S Super AMOLED screen, because in Spain only sell Super Clear LCD.
What is the difference between Nexus S i9020 and Nexus S i9020T?
Currently I have a Galaxy S with these frequencies:
GSM-Quadband (850/900/1800/1900) • UMTS-Triband (900/1900/2100)
Thanks

There are only 3 versions.
i9020t (mostly usa) amoled
i9020a (at&t and Canada) amoled
i9023 (mostly international) sLCD
you are probably looking for the i9020t

wrong. there is an i9020. i have one. i think the i9020 is european only. as op said, he's from spain, which in case you didn't know is not in america, so american suffixes don't apply.

I have the i9020 also and it is SAMOLED

Anyone know frequencies used in each model? in both GSM and 3G/HSPDA?
I9020 GSM => ???
I9020 3G => ???
I9020T GSM => ???
I9020T 3G => ???

UP!!!!!!!!!

I also have one with i9020. I brought it from South Korea. I'm truly confused. Is i9020 is i9020t?

The difference is in the radio. Difference carriers use different frequencies, so the different models have radios specific to those frequencies.
You have to figure out what radio frequencies your carrier uses and find the model compatible with it. I'm from Canada, so I'm not sure what frequencies are typically used in Spain.

The i9020 is the same as the i9020t, according to Wikipedia. It works on 900/1700/2100.
The i9020a works on 850/1900/2100.
Find out which frequencies your carrier works and pick the one that has them.

So what you will say about Globally unlocked one?
As I own one which is i9020 and globally unlocked. I did searched over internet but found nothing solid

If your carrier uses 1700/2100 3G -------> buy the I9020T
If your carrier uses 850/1900 3G -------> buy the I9020A
Both are SAMOLED
If you pick one that doesn't have the correct frequencies for your carrier 3G , you will stil can use it for calls and EDGE speed data , but not the full speed 3G of your carrier...

Unlocked refers to carrier or country specific locks, the Nexus S doesn't have this at all. However, the different versions have different frequencies for 3g signal and you'll want one with your carriers frequency. If you get 3g with your SGS, you'll be wanting an i9020T equivalent (i9020T or i9023).

I think I got it.

[Q] Will a UK-bought Nexus S support 3G on T-Mobile USA?

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me, I've been searching around, but I can't find anything definitive...
Does the Nexus S that is sold by Carphone Warehouse in the UK support the 1700/2100MHz UTMS frequencies that are required for 3G on T-Mobile USA? I've found lots of posts asking if a US-bought Nexus S will work in the UK, but not the other way around...
My brother lives in NY and uses T-Mobile USA and I'm thinking of getting him a Nexus S SIM-free from Carphone Warehouse since it's only £200 there now... Will he have any trouble? It looks as though the T-Mobile USA version of the Nexus S is identical to the UK version, but if someone could confirm then I'd feel more confident.
Thanks in advance!
The UK version is the I9023 and the T-Mobile version is the I9020T, the only difference is the screen, s-lcd for us (I9023 users), samoled for the T-Mobile one. It should be fine as I loaded the radio from the ota for the T-Mobile version on mine and it works fine.
Thanks for clarifying, much appreciated!

[Q] Unlocked One S from Canada (bands)

Hey guys just wondering if anybody has unlocked a One S (bought from a Canadian Carrier) and tested it out on Wind or Mobilicity.
I emailed HTC asking them about the bands supported by the phones and this is the reply I got.
Fido: HSPA 42 Mbps
Bell: HSPA 42 Mbps 2100/1900/AWS GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Sasktel: HSPA 42 Mbps
Telus: HSPA 42 Mbps
Virgin: HSPA 42 Mbps

Asked them if the other phones had the same bands
I do apologise for the misunderstanding, but the bands would be the same for the One S on each network.
That being said, I will suggest to contact Wind Mobile to verify if a unlocked phone will work to its fullest potential or not. The reason I mention this, is that some providers put a limit on the connection, on an unlocked phone.

So I was just wondering if anybody has tested this out and knows if it works on Wind or Mobilicity by just unlocking it or if the AWS bands are "locked" just like the Galaxy Note.
Wrong. Canadian One S are not AWS.
If we would have AWS onboard we would have the T-Mobile US phone

Are you sure Penta Band ONE S exist in Canada/USA ? read post #3
As for the official HTC site says. HSPA/WCDMA:Europe/Asia: 850/900/2100 MHz
BUT Your links would make sense according to the note Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location.
I too, am trying to find out too what bands does the Canadian version support
Fido , Bell, Virgin all listed HSPA 850 1900 2100 but Telus only listed 850 1900 , so that leads me to believe 1700 is not supported.
However at the same time, the international version isn't penta band, nor the T mobile version... Where are theretailers getting their penta band One S in black?
Maybe the device is penta band from the fatory but carriered modified ?
My Telus One S arrives next week and I will unlock it but ufortunately Wind doesn't
operate in SK so I won't be able to test it.
I tried to look at the demo phone and I couldnt find the menu option to select networks.

The black unlocked international One S is for sure not pentaband as far as I know and supports less bands than the blue version. I am assuming the blue versions are all the same and just branded differently. My suspicion is Fido/Bell/Virgin/Telus aren't listing the 1700 band so that people do not buy and unlock them to use with Wind/Mobilicity.
That's too bad there has to be someone out there that has attempted to try it on Wind/Mobilicity. It's such a pain how every site/company is showing different specs.
The European version will not work with AWS. Currently the only *confirmed" AWS version is the T-Mobile US version. However if S-Off is ever achieved then flashing a T-Mobile US radio could "unlock" the bands in the European version and other versions a la the Snapdragon Galaxy Note.

I am aware the the European one does not have AWS. However I am not asking about the black European model. In Canada we have the blue model just like the one with T-Mobile in the States which leads me to believe that the Canadian version=the American version; I just need some confirmation.

Sorry didn't know that, went to the HTC UK site and found all the major carriers that had the One S and they were all black. Why does it have to be so difficult for companies to get their specs straight...

Does anybody mind looking under the cover for the model / FCC ID / Industry Canada certification numbers and reporting back with the carrier they got the phone from and the FCC ID. They should be printed on the label near the headphones / headset jack.
These are the variants available in Canada.
PJ40100: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40110: UMTS Band II (1900)/IV (AWS)/V (850)
PJ40200: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40210: UMTS Band II (1900)/V (850)
I went to Telus and Bell today ( the Fido and Sasktel stores didn't have working demo models ), I checked the FCC tags and both of them showed "PJ40110". on the top line.
I didn't look at the FCC ID or IC.

Awesome! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. Now I can safely go out and buy this with no worries
Please be aware that you will buy an unsupported phone, unlock the bootloader to root the phone, most probably voiding your warranty in the process (there's talk that the root-only (and not requiring unlocked bootloader) method for the NA One X works on the One S) then Sim-unlock the phone (by a paid code or the new hack), find the APNs for your carrier...
... And hope that all works...
I don't want to scare you but make sure you fully understand all risks. Specially if you buy the phone outright and don't have an account on that carrier...
Despite the fact that I can't test data (as it should be locked in my account) here is a shot telling that I'm on 3G UTMS (which can't be done with this SIM on a non-AWS phone like my iPhone).
I got one from Virginmobile had it unlocked it and am now using it on Mobilicity.
The Rep at the store assured me it wont work but i tried it and it did.
Reason for buying from there was because it was on sale.

Differences of Nexus S versions

I'm going to buy a Nexus S. I see there are couple versions and I don't know which one should I choose.
Those questions are about GSM version : GT-I9020A and GT-I9020T
What are the differences between 2 version ?
Which one can I use on T-Mobile ? (Does it support 3G / 4G ?)
Is it possible to get (official) Jelly Bean on Nexus S ?
i9020 have an amoled screen, and i9023 have a slcd screen. Nexus S 4G supports 4g not the other ones

There's no word on JB from what I've seen yet for the NS. Just wait and see. You want the 9020t version for TMo. The 9020a is the AT&T variant.
Can you change the Modem
If you get a AT&T model can you install the T-Mobile modem on it and still get 4G service?
Honestly don't know. I know my friend has an old iPhone from AT&T, but he can only use 2G because the 3G bands or whatever are different. I'd assume it would be the same for the Nexus S. But like I said, I don't have a solid answer for it.

[Q] Are these phones already unlocked?

My aunt wants to switch carriers, and I don't have access to her phone right now.
I googled and check all the cellphoneunlock sites and they all don't have the Nexus S. I'm guessing it's either impossible to unlock or its unlocked already.
Thanks

It's not carrier locked. However, you have to make sure the bands are right for your carrier if you want to get service/3G. There's a few model of the Nexus S:
GSM
i9020A (HSDPA 850/1900/2100 AT&T) Super AMOLED
i9020T (HSDPA 900/1700/2100 T-Mobile) Super AMOLED
i9023 (HSDPA 900/1700/2100) S-LCD
CDMA
D720 (CDMA 2000 4G Sprint) Super AMOLED

Nexus S aren't locked to any carrier. They are however frequency restricted, depending on the model (tri-band, unlike Galaxy Nexus which is pentaband)
What does it mean? You can put any SIM in it, but you won't get 3G unless you have the right model for your network.
Here's the specs:

For example Koodo only offers 3G as their GSM service, no 2G.
So if no frequency the company uses is compatible with your phone (none of them matches) then you will not get any service.

Make sure you are actually holding an i9023. Check the model printed on IMEI label on back cover under the battery.
If gsmarena spec is correct, i9023 should work with Wind/Mobilicity but not Koodo 3G, same for i9020t.
i9020a works with Koodo 3G but not Wind/Mobilicity.

Most unlock website perform SIM(Carrier) unlock. They won't unlock additional frequency support.
Nexus phones came factory SIM unlocked. Should work in India. The quoted site will take your $16.90 and do nothing
