Has anyone tried yet? I have a couple ideas but I'm not interested in bricking my device. Since there is no forum for the G-Slate yet I'm hoping we can use this thread to post attempted methods and ideas. So far I've tried z4root with no luck. Also tried Universal Androot to no avail. Has anyone tried using SuperOneClick yet? I haven't attempted yet as I'm kind of concerned with the results. Let's hear some ideas and info!

Yes I tried super one click and it keeps getting stuck on RUNNING PSNEUTER..... then nothing from there..so frustrating
I'm going to look into some more info later. Maybe then we can come up with a working process if I find anything useful. We desperately need a dev lol.

I tried the modified GingerBreak method and it failed as well. We really need a forum so we can all discuss this.
Some more attempts are listed here

No luck so far
All G-Slate threads on XDA: http://bit.ly/iFjjgE
Still no luck on my end. I've been reading over the source code I got off LG.com but most of it is over my head.
Yea it is quite difficult to find a method that works.

The root problem (no pun intended) here is that for some reason, no one can get the bootloader unlocked. The version of Fastboot on the G-Slate is really weird, and doesn't respond to "fastboot oem unlock" the way it should.
I'm going to be trying a workaround method that doesn't require unlocking the bootloader. No guarantees, but I know this method did work on my Nexus.

Well, first, have you even tried searching the forums? You aren't the first person that's run into problems.
At the very least you could provide a little more detail. You can't really expect anyone to help just by starting a new thread saying "it doesn't work," instead of posting in Bubbys thread, where it should be.
One thing I do recall, though I haven't gone through the process myself, is you need root for the S-On tool to work.

Yes there are quite a few of us working on rooting it. So far no one has been successful. One problem we're having right now is with XDA, they won't create us G-Slate users our own forum so all of our threads are scattered around the site like crazy.
At any rate, I've tried three seperate attempts to root the damn thing and no luck. I thought I had it when I used the same method that I found worked on the LG Optimus but I damn near bricked it. I know there's one guy working on rooting it using a method similar to the one that worked on the G2x, which apparently is more similar to the G-Slate than meets the eye. I don't have the link handy, but just do a search for g-slate at the top of the screen and you'll find the thread(s).
I opened a thread below you on this. I'm also still working on getting us a forum.

Is there some app or configuration change that's necessary to enable USB host on the G-Slate?
Months ago I had so many problems rooting my MT4G. Recently, I decided to load the stock rom on my phone, just to root it all over again. I was able to do it in about 3 minutes! Here we go...
The following prerequisites can be found by searching/googling the forums.
1.) need VisionARY r14 .apk file
2.) need MyTouchRootingFiles (zip containing hboot_dhd.nb0, root.sh, and wpx.ko)
3.) download and install Android Terminal Emulator from Android Market
Ok, now that we got that out of the way, here are the instructions.
1.) Install VisionARY to your phone
2.) Unzip the MyTouchRootingFiles file to your computer, then copy the unzipped folder called ROOT to the root of your sdcard using usb cable
3.) While phone is NOT connected to computer, start VisionARY. Press the TEMP ROOT option to gain temporary root access. Exit VisionARY.
4.) Start Terminal Emulator and type the following, hitting enter after each line
SU
CD /SDCARD/ROOT
SH ROOT.SH5.) After rebooting, start VisionARY again, and gain TEMP ROOT once again
6.) Wait a few minutes (this is very important, don't rush), then press ATTEMPT PERM ROOT, your phone will reboot
7.) After rebooting, start Terminal Emulator and simply type SU. If you get the "#", you have rooted your phone!
Now you can explore the Android world by installing custom roms created by the community. You may want to research how to backup your device before starting to flash roms.
Good luck!
This will only work if you have the good eMMC chip set W/ 2.2.x. And it's a pretty well known method of rooting phones. Heck i have this method in my signature from when i posted the same thing months ago.
You do know this method only works for froyo 2.2. Now a days mostly everyone is on gingerbread 2.3. Gingerbread bread updated device is more complex to root. It requires you to downgrade then root.
When I started rooting mt4g's this is the method I used and it took me about 3 to 5 minutes as well. This is also without using a pc. Everything done from the device. Its not as easy now though.

Yup, I'm aware. But anytime you get a MT4G from Tmo, it's still coming with 2.2... My instructions were basically for people that have had their Mt4g, but were afraid to root...

Search the forums on how to check your eMMC chip. (I'd post the link, but i'm on my way to work & don't have it off hand. If you really can't find it, PM me & I'll find it.) Long story short, this method may not work, depending on the type of eMMC in your phone. You will
need to root via the gfree method, also available in the xda forums. Mackster248 has a great tutorial on YouTube.

I was just posting this to ask if anyone had found a way to root gingerbread running the latest OTA, the one where HTCLinkifyDispatcher was added. I had rooted my old shift before (also running 2.3.4) using Vicodan's method, but I then had problems and had to get a new Shift recently, and someone else who was holding my phone at the time installed the OTA so I am unsure as to whether I can still root using any method.
Looking through the posts, I found that the ShiftySonOfA script had been attempted, but does not work on this OTA. However, I do not know about the other methods. If anyone can confirm whether they work or not, that would be great, before I attempt to root my phone and have to stop in the middle of the process. If not, I can attempt the other methods and then post here again with my results as to whether I was able to get root on this OTA.

Hmm yeah that was the one that I read through, the most that Indirect said about it was that he wasn't sure if it would work on this OTA, so I'm not sure myself...hopefully he is though
Also on a sidenote not related to this question...I would love to become a developer. Or even help a developer because I really like this sort of stuff. If anybody would be willing to apprentice me or something like that, that would be great because I would like to (at some point) maybe even make my own root for an Android. Any replies to this are welcome, or pointers as to how to get started and stuff. Thanks in advance!
next month i might be either upgrading both of my lines or cancelling my contract, not really sure yet but either way ill probably be selling both of my evo shifts then. or maybe ill donate to indirect (for root purposes) and pwnyourace (for development purposes (ROMS))
Ok first off, I want to say that yes I have looked at countless threads explaining and asking the same thing, and none of them have been very useful. Maybe that's my fault, maybe it's just want I'm use to in the past. So I want to apologize to people who see my thread and go "Uuugh another retard". I don't want to be a retard or a jerk or anything of the above, but I just feel like nothing in the forums for this phone is as clear or well formulated as the phones I've dealt with in the past on XDA and I don't know why that is. Maybe I just haven't really learned anything from my past experiences
I have the HTC One X (duh) AT&T at software version 1.85, and I'd like to root it and do whatever else I need to do to get to the point of being able to load custom ROMs. My issue is that even after reading several threads, including the ones specifically about rooting version 1.85, I have no idea what to do. I've rooted phones in the past and never had this much trouble understanding instructions, and I think it's just because in the past the guides have always been extremely clear and explicitly stated what I needed, where I got it, how to load it, and how to use it. I've only done a few phones in the past, HTC Inspire, HTC Tilt 2, and an LG model that I've forgotten the name of.
So ok, here is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296 What exactly am I supposed to do here, because to be honest the instructions there are terrible. I read through probably fifteen pages of that thread, and felt like an idiot because no one else needed help even starting. So I started looking around, and I found some other posts asking for help, but everyone had seemed to actually have gotten past the initial point. For me, I can't even properly download the su file because it has no file type and Windows is all **** you buddy give it a file type (I just called it a zip file so I could at least have it downloaded.) I also looked at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 thread, and I understand what to do here but from my understanding I should be rooted first so that's a problem yes?
So could someone please assist me with a properly designated and clear set of instructions on how to get my phone to the phase where I can do more with it?
I fully understand if no one wishes to help me, or if this exact issue has really come up before. I've been looking for awhile and just haven't had any luck at all. Thank you for your help if you wish to help, and thank you even if you don't. Have a wonderful day.
I rooted mine with by "faking" an ota update.. that is you have to go to att update (go to settings and scroll all the way down) and from the console push some files to the phone via adb and then hit "update" in the phone.. I can't remember the thread though...
Hope that helps...

OP has linked the correct thread for rooting 1.85. The only working method, AFAIK.
I was completely new to the Android universe and also had problems getting started, but it helped when I figured out what ADB was.
http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html
Basically, what you want to do (per the thread you linked to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296)
FIRST - install ADB!
Then :
- pull the SIM card (i didn't do this, but I'm just reiterating the insturctions on that page )
- do a factory reset
- do not connect to the internet after factory reset. Just go into settings and enable USB debugging, and plug the phone into your computer's USB port.
NOW, you can (via USB and the ADB tool which you've researched from my link above) run the commands from that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296). So open up a command prompt (start->run->cmd on a Windows machine) and just type everything you see in the instructions in that thread. Doesn't particularly matter if you don't knwo what each command does as long as you follow them faithfully
I'd be happy to walk you through it. Your on the right track though. It'll have to be later tonight though. Pm me and I can get with you after 9pm mountain standard.

After its downloaded, will Windows let you rename the file so there is no file extension? My Windows XP system will allow it, so if you're on Windows 7, I'm not sure what the fix is.
Also, the root guide assumes you have some knowledge of ADB. As it seems your are pretty lost, I'm assuming you don't. Gunny's guide has some ADB basics (although I've been told even this starter guide is missing a few basics):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754018
I rooted back on 1.73, so a different method. But I'll try to help as much as I can.
Also, if you haven't already seen my index thread, its got all the resources posted in Development, in an organized list. Your issue right now doesn't seem to be finding the right threads. But you may find it useful once you get unstuck from the root process, at least:

I will hopefully later tonight be able to actually go through the process of trying to get all of this done to my phone. I will update once I'm home!
