If the parent company lets go of HTC to open its own mobile, will this interfere with the progress of the HD2?
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/deutsche-telekom-mulls-ipo-for-t-mobile-usa-2010-02-04
Don't think you have anything to worry about at least this year (the hd2 will continue as planned). Like the article said "Rumors that Deutsche Telekom might seek to dispose of T-Mobile USA have circulated for several years."
Thank you, I asked considering the report of TMO decreasing value, so the report states.
To add: do you think TMO will increase their coverage to make our reception somewhat better? Thanks
I've been reading that more coverage & faster 3G is in progress. See tmonews.com for the latest scoop...
Hi Fellow Captivate Users,
As you are probably aware, there has really been a war going on with AT&T from the Atrix and Inspire owners over the HSUPA not being enabled on those devices. Coming from the Captivate where we have been able to enable HSUPA despite AT&T not allowing us android filth to utilize that feature, I have come to realize how fortunate we are. Recently, I have also purchased an Atrix, and with the bootloader being locked, installing a modem that allows HSUPA is really not an option. We have grabbed AT&T's attention by filing BBB complaints and by filing a petition where we have over 800 signatures right now. They have come out to confirm that they have it disabled and that down the road, they will enable it for us. Being that the Atrix was advertised as a 4G phone, and the initial specs sheet shown that HSUPA was enabled, the vast majority have really taken this as a slap in the face now that the Ipad 2 just came out and is utilizing HSUPA on their network.
So, if you have an interest in this, as customers of AT&T with a device that is HSUPA capable, it may not be a bad idea to help us out and sign the petition and if you can, file with the BBB about the unfairness of how they are treating us android users. There have been numerous filing and AT&T will be getting a huge amount of complaints very soon to answer to.
If you are interested and able to help out, here is a link to the facebook page that one of us has started with all the facts, articles, and petition info.

We went through this with the Samsung ordeal. XDA doesnt condone spamming sites or emails due to issues.
As far as I am concerned Why are you blaming ATT? It was motorola that shipped it with a locked bootloader (we All knew that was gonna happen) and the modem that it came with. I personally dont have anything in this as I knew that 4G was not ready and would not be ready for months after the phone came out.

I agree about the 4G understandably not being ready yet. However, we are talking about 3G that is readily available to the Apple devices (Unfairly).
As for the bootloader, that is another topic all together. The Captivate users should be apart of this because those that wish not to root their devices, they should also be able to utilize the HSUPA feature on their devices as it is supported and fully functional on AT&T's network. This is nothing but biasness of AT&T for the Apple products. AT&T itself has confirmed that they disabled the HSUPA on these devices. Motorola is just doing what AT&T told them to do.
If you think this post is not of interest to the Captivate users, feel free to delete it. Though I (and many others here) have friends that would benefit from it as they choose not to root their devices and should be able to use it.
I personally dont understand why so many people here at xda jumped on the atrix bandwagon. For a phone that is designed to purposely lock the user from being able to modify the phone people sure seem upset that the carrier/phone manufacturer is restricting what features you are allowed to use. People always seem to think that spamming the manufacturer or collecting signatures or members on facebook will make large companies change their mind. The main number they care about is the fact that you bought their device and through that you guys have voted to keep phones as anti mod as possible

Yes. Vote with your wallet and your 30 day return policy. Petitions etc. are a waste of time. Hoping that they'll spontaneously open HSUPA and/or unlock the bootloader only encourages them to do neither of those things.
Okay, obviously you are missing the point as we have already got AT&T's attention, but hay, when the Atrix has HUSPA enabled because we took the initiative and the Captivate doesn't..............
I was just was hoping some of you would try to make a difference for those other Captivate owners.

When this is AT&T's answer you think filing BBB complaints will make a difference?
Post from FB page:

Called the presidents 1800 number today, and was given the same bs runaround about different phones get different services that i got from the regular att reps. The man told me that i should 'utilize' my 30 day return policy on my Atrix if i was unhappy with the speeds. I could not believe what was said to me, let alone calling the presidents hotline. #@$! this [email protected]%!, Verizon is looking better and better every day.

Well, if you don't want to be apart of it and you don't think it will do any good, then don't participate in it. Plain and simple.
I just wanted to let people know about what was going on, and if they felt that it would be a benefit to them or others they knew, then they could help us out. Personally, I never expected that we would have even received a response from AT&T about it, but with what we have done so far, we have.
Also, AT&T was never intending on giving us HSUPA on the Atrix. Now that we have brought so much attention to it, they have stated that they will be enabling it (eventually), so we are making steps to attain what we want. Now if we can just get them to commit to a date, many of us would be happy. I would like to see AT&T also commit to enabling it for the Captivate and Inspire owners.
We've been through the same thing with the GPS issue on our phone. It advertises GPS while many are or were broken. AT&T did nothing besides exchange for another Captivate.

But the GPS issue is from Samsung's end and not AT&T's. I can't blame AT&T for faulty hardware or software that Samsung made. (Unless AT&T knowingly told them to make crappy GSP hardware/software for it so that we couldn't use it)
Wouldn't it be Motorola's fault if they used a modem that can't utilize HSUPA?
Regardless, I do agree with you.

No, they are only doing what at&t instructed them to do since it is their network. Just as Samsung did with the Captivate and disabled HSUPA on that.
Well one of the reasons I would think they disabled the HSUPA for now is that they aren't confident in their network completely yet. Better to keep everyone on the more established 3g so they get less complaints about supposed 'battery issues' from it switching so much and 'inconsistent download speeds' from a network that isn't fully put together. It would have been nice if they gave a toggle for it, but what's done is done. Petitions like these don't have much of an effect sadly so though it's a good effort, your time would be better used on other things for now.

Yea, I realize that, and that was my point. If they were worried about their network not being able to handle us Captivate, Atrix, and Inspire owners, then why would they add all those IPad 2's to that same network? This is a case of pure bias towards a manufacturer of a device.
The Captivate came out after the Iphone 4, and yet was disabled (By choice of AT&T) even though it it was completely capable. AT&T is the only carrier doing this.

Its possibly due to some deal apple/att has to have hsupa enabled on apples phones and disabled on other phones, who knows, its all business bs you know.
This is what I am talking about. We need people to get the press involved like this with petitions, and filings with the BBB. This only got to be such a big story after enough people saw a problem with it and stood up for what they want. Yes, they do make a difference. AT&T has committed to updating the modem in the Atrix now.......but waiting on the hard set date still bugs me.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2381915,00.asp
The Captivate will be left in the dust now that only the Atrix and Inspire owners have complained. I was just hoping that the Captivate community would be apart of it too (for those that don't root).
Why is it that people feel they are OWED something by a company every time they get overly emotional due to their purchase not doing what THEY think it should?
Atrix users purchased a phone that only advertised HSDPA up to 14.4. It's what's been on the advertisement since the first day it went up on AT&T's site. It's not AT&T's fault that you purchased a phone that isn't sold with that support functional.
Yes, it sucks that they don't have it enabled from the get-go. But there's always a reason, be it a business decision or the technology's maturity. Are you forgetting that the Xoom shipped without 4G, Flash OR a working MicroSDHC slot??? How do you know, with ABSOLUTE certainty, that it isn't merely a matter of Motorola working out all of the kinks in their HSUPA-capable firmware? Heck, it could be like the BB Bold 9000, where it was highly rumored that due to the stability/spread of 3G in 2008 they held off its release to ensure that the phone couldn't be held to blame. And to be honest, I don't blame them... I had my 3G aircard and life was miserable until that fall!
By spamming the BBB, FB, etc, you're clouding the issue... The fact of the matter is that you bought the phone as-is -- so unless it was advertised as supporting HSUPA OUT OF THE BOX, you have no legal ground to stand on.
If it were a simple, "Hey, we want HSUPA installed by default!" it might be a bandwagon worth hopping on... But between the immaturity and lack of correct understanding and focus on the issue, it's not worth wasting your time.

So glad i didnt buy this now. Oh well...
Alas, returning the phone was justified. I know that for the average customer this might not have been a big deal, but I wanted a true high end global HSDPA device. I wanted it to be true so much...
Oh well, still a great phone for those who do not care about the missing bands.
Onwards with the custom roms!
Stinks and some major fubared information on the website. Oh well, awesome phone.
So much for that....back to my vibrant for now.....
I thought that this phone passed the fcc with the tmobile and att bands. Dont really care, cause most likely I will have moved on to another phone by the time the merger happens. So whats going on. Does anyone know the link to the fcc filing.
Yeah, was sad for a second and then I picked up the phone and used it and I didn't care anymore
I haven't cared since I read att won't be switching off aws too soon and they would grandfather in all T-Mobile plans. Also not even sure I'd stay with att if the merger does happen anyway. Depends on too much and this phone is too amazing to return now. Super satisfied with my purchase.

i know for those that wanted to use this phone on att it sucks. but for me i signed a 2 year contract based on this phone. if and when the att merger goes through. they will have to offer you out of your contract or supply you with a new phone. and since id cut off my right foot before id use att ever again, i think this is great news. I think it will be 18-24 months before you see any changes even if it goes through anyways, so i think the only problem here is if you wanted to use this phone on att. which i think was not wanted by tmobile, they want you to come to tmobile thats why they offer this phone.--only prob was advertising it did have those bands. but it did get straightened out in the return time. If anyone paid an early term fee and paid full price for this phone to work on att-tmobile better make it financially right or they will have some problems, im betting they will.
You know I still have a hard time believing this. I can't see how it passed the FCC with such false advertising and because the were spitting it out so much. I just have a sneaky suspicion that we'll see a radio that has the AT&T bands. That quote was probably just from some Customer Service rep reading off a script.
Why would TMOBILE say, "Yea it supports other carriers"? It would be in there best interest to say you have to use it on our network.
I think the phone is a Quad Band and could support it if the radio was opened up. The only time I'll believe it is when I hear it from some of the devs here on XDA.
But really what does it matter? Most phones don't support both bands. I hear people saying, I'm just going to buy the Sensation... well that isn't going to be quad band either (unless I'm missing something).
What is the point of the FCC if they don't check these things? The FCC is supposed to make sure that the product being offered works as intended and advertised. I mean there are just too many things pointing out that the device IS CAPABLE of the receiving the different frequencies.
Tmobile probably just blocked the frequencies in the radio and are saying this just to shut people up.
(sorry I posted this over the course of 5 phone calls so it may not be in logical order)

Wait, how is it not a "true high end global HSPA device" ? It's quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 for 2G/GPRS and UMTS/HSPA+ bands I (2100) and IV (1700).
So it will work pretty much everywhere in the world (just no HSPA+ on AT&T network).
So what phone will you get that is a "true high end global HSPA device" ?
It is not confirmed....ha, lg made this phone, until they release a statement that they never put the bands in the phone, or never plan to enable then in future baseband updates, nothing is official yet.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
This is really something.
A poster elsewhere on XDA had gotten a written statement from TMo that it had those bands (followed by legal gobbledygook terms & conditions stating that they reserved the right to make or not make them available.
Now. their statement saying "opps" they goofed. I will give this another day or two to get sorted out (traveling all day tomorrow). I will then decide whether to return it and wait for their next two-core phone (which is supposed to come with 2.4 on it - if you can believe TMo anymore).
I am on a rooted CM7 OC MT4G - not a bad place to wait for a later release. If I miss their 20 day return window - will raise hell - as I had relied on their written representations that the G2x had the AT&T data bands.
Footnote - I am still confused as to why they show up in the "hidden menu".
I'm going to use the phone until the Sensation comes out. I have a print out of the spec sheet off of tmobile.com showing it's supposed to be a quad-band phone. I'll call tech support and tell them I'm having trouble connecting to the 1900 band. They'll tell me I can't. I'll forward them the spec sheet showing I bought a quad-band phone based on their representations. Voila... new phone.
Bummer if it ends up being true. Got official word on the diamond some years ago that it had no physical bands and 6 months later a version with those bands came out and a few weeks after that it was enabled on all the phones that supposedly didnt have them but did thanks to the smart people here. At any rate this one is off the list for now. Leaves an aT&T user without anything to look at that isnt locked down or just plain sucks for the moment.
I don't understand why everybody thinks FCC info is false.
I told you so but y'all didn't listen.

Although I enjoyed the data speed of T-Mobile, I am glad I am no longer paying a charge to them. This business with their future phones is a sign of how un-serious they take their consumer business. And because of that, they do deserve the lack of business their decisions will cause.
Not producing phones that will fully function of AT&T's 3G/4G service is just pure willy-nilly ignorant and T-Mobile needs to feel the heat of their ignorance. The so-called "super phone" coming to T-Mobile, the HTC Sensation, will be a no-seller because of how T-Mobile chooses to conduct their business.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/t-mobile-g2x-lacks-quadband-hspa-shatters-dreams/
Interesting. i wonder what they do when and if the merger goes through, what then ? do they run to platforms and try to merge over 2 years ? That will totally toast them in business and will lower market share........... Yeah..... What is their plan ?
Yea, I'm thinking of switching back to AT&T as well. Will get a phone that works as long as I need it to, and much better network coverage. Data speeds aren't that big a deal to me, as long as it's around 2mbps download 1mbps up I'm more than content...
And I can still get a 4GB data plan with an iPhone if I go back...
Not too concerned here. 2 of my 3 t-mobile devices fully support at&t's 3g and 4g bands. Just my hd2 will need to be replaced, and that's years away. Not worried.
edit: And phones are planned many months if not a year (or more) in advance. The at&t - t-mobile merger most likely wasn't even in the outlook when they made that phone in the first place.

And even if it does, it's not T-Mobile themselves who produce the phones, they can only buy what the manufacturers are selling.

Why would you invest extra money into adding a whole new radio into a handset if there is no garuntee that the merger will go through? The next complaint/answer would be "tmo's handsets are sooo needlesly expensive". Probably because someone thought it was a good idea to put unecassary hardware in a phone you probably wont even remember when (if?) the merger goes through.
I get calls like this all the time, if the service doesnt work for you i completely understand- Please find another service because getting the same whiney call day in and day out costs t mobile that much more money keeping an unhappy customer.
Let me be clear id rather handle 10000 calls about our coverage and service then silly reasons like this, you dont need to justify your reason to leave a carrier.. just leave.

To be honest, that came off a little strong, but I still feel it was justified. The Original post should be re-read, then see what was more flame-bait. My statement was the truth, it was "ignorant". Ignorance isn't an insult, its simply stating the the post has no merit into what T-Mobile is doing with their products.
T-Mobile still remains a competitor to AT&T, why would they start to have manufacturers incorporate further frequencies in their devices that support the competitors products? I don't see AT&T doing that with their products, nor Verizon or Sprint.
Interesting. And maybe of interest to me. Someone from t mobile has been hard on my heels to switch from sprint to t mobile. She countered every advantage i thought sprint had: pricewise, 4g coverage etc. If I did not switch yet, cause I am a creature of habits and stick to sprint cause: it is what I started with.

Actually Sprint and Verizon both work on the same 2 frequencies. We're allowed to roam on Verizon as much as we want, included in the plan (there's no hard limit, but don't overuse it), and Verizon customers get to roam on Sprint.
AT&T will become the only GSM phone provider in california when this takes place.
Not surprise one bit. T-MobileUS is notorious for false advertising or even intended false advertising on a bunch of their handsets. How can you trust a company who intentionally commercialized the whole "4G" craze by simply stating that actual 4G infrastructure wasn't worth it and HSPA+ was more than just enough? Good thing they got bought out.

Naturally, this is assuming that the information on this website is correct.
Here is the comparison with the international version:
Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F 32GB) vs Galaxy S7 (SM-G930A)
Side by side comparison between Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F 32GB) vs Galaxy S7 (SM-G930A) phones, differences, pros, cons and full specifications. What's the better?

My thoughts are AT&T isn't obligated to guarantee service to all devices especially if other competitors are in that area.
If you have a service contract that stipulates a guarentee of service for that specific device... you see where this is going.
AT&T does grandfather certain services but will try their damndest to get out of them as I well know. If it was grandfathered AT&T might roll that over to the upgraded service.
At some point though progress marches on. Unless obsolete technologies provide a benefit to a significant amount of customers it's simply unsustainable and/or cost effective.
The key word in all of this is contract. Unless there's a state or federal mandate stating otherwise. At this point my vision blurs and 4G is a nice improvement. Guess my old flip phone will be toast soon too.
It will be interesting how this plays out for the underdog.

Generally I agree with this sentiment, but AT&T is so large and their coverage so much better that they can behave almost like a monopoly. I don't see our government taking any anti-trust action against any of the large carriers (if they cared, why would they have allowed so many mergers in the first place?), so they should be regulated like a monopoly, as much as my free-market instincts hate to say that.
UPDATE!!!
I spoke with someone today from AT&T's "Office of the President" regarding my phone. She assured me that it was impossible to get my current phone to work post-3G sunset (I still don't believe that), but offered to provide me with a replacement AT&T phone of equal value (or greater value, at a discount). She emailed me a list of available phones, including the Google Pixel 4a 5G (model number G025E).
After a brief period of research, I learned that NONE of the phones available through AT&T can have their bootloaders unlocked. I responded that I would be glad to have the Pixel if she could have one of their technicians unlock it for me, and if that wasn't possible, I would instead accept a credit on our account to cover the cost of purchasing a suitable phone elsewhere. They were going to give me the Pixel for US$150, and it was listed for $525 retail, so I offered to accept a credit of $375. She agreed.
It's not the resolution I'd hoped for, but I'll take it. So if AT&T tries to pacify you with one of their cheap, throwaway prepaid phones, don't settle!

What trial? Looks like you may have left some things out of your post.
