I believe that he may have stepped back a bit to allow for others to build on top of what he has done. The development for our phone has not stopped since Dexter's last contribution.

indeed there are 2 live ones going on, and one of them just got upgraded to v4 it was still v3 yesterday
on top of that Dexter also works on other phone models/ROMs as well, he's a busy man

hope that he comes back and bring some newest rom for xt720 soon

In my opinion Dexter already did enough for us, Froyo is great with all these improvements (khalpowers, mioze7oe .........) now.
If there was a gingerbread ROM for XT701 or so he would maybe be able to develop a new ROM for our XT720

you forgot to mention the Motoblur version that he also ported over from other devices
so yes, unless there is anything new, or exiting like 2.3.3 then i doubt we'll see him releasing new stuff, unless we find a major glitch that needs to be fixed on 1.3, which Mioze7Ae already have done a wonderful job at it.

I am very grateful to Dexter and Mioze7Ae, because thanks to them my phone has Froy and other improvements. I do not think the XT720 has a chance to have 2.3 gingerbread, or is there some Motorola phones to be compatible ROM for the XT720?

Dexter
I agree. Dexter has done plenty for the community. he took the development of the phone to a place where other people can take over. Khal has done a great job with his ROM. (look it up. its is awesome). And i think people already mentioned this he is involved on alot of stuff. The only thing that i still want from the phone us the ability to flash a unsigned kernel like fjfalcon kernel. Anyways back to the original topic, buy dexter a beer; he made a big contribution.

[GINGERBREAD] Android 2.3 port from SDK for 32A/NR.

I made it for fun and it is NOT usable and will not be before we get official source
http://saraev.ca/signed_120810_223045.zip
working:
- data/radio (no incall microphone)
- wifi
not working: everything else
please do not report bugs. I know whats not working but can fix NOTHING for now
Good job. IMO these ports will be unusable for the next few months until cyanogen comes up with a release.
It was like that with eclair and later froyo. History tends to repeat itself.
Woot Woot, Hopefully once we get the source this can become stable. The magic lives on. Not many froyo builds I tried for the 32a werent that easy on battery life. Hopefully this turns out good. Hope the devs will work together to create a stable rom, instead of having their own builds with pros and cons.
If 2.3 ever starts working on 32A + NR, I am jumping ship asap! I miss vanilla android

I would have to agree with you except for I think I read on Cyanogen's twitter page that they will NOT be supporting first gen devices after CM6.1 which I assume meant NO ported 2.3 for us.
Hopefully I am wrong.
where is that quote? can't see it
good job!!!!!!!! hahahahaha
Did anyone1 tried on OR and cm Bcrook kernel???
i want to make a team for dev this rom to work full on magic..contact me..
nice hopefully it will fully work
Download does not work?
Really impressive work Hope to see this fully working.
what changes are needed for this to boot on 32b?
This is all well and good and I'll try it if I get my repaired phone back and can once again have a spare to play with.
However is it reasonable to expect this to ever be usable? We don't seem to be able to get a fully working 2.2 under the new radio so why would 2.3 ever get enough attention or drivers? I used 2.2 for a long time on the old radio but I really needed to use the new radio and have since gone back to 2.1 since it is now my daily driver again.
This will be great fun once I can put the Magic back to dev use.
I tested this on my g1, with a pershoots kernel over top so that it boots. And I was wondering how you got wifi to work? I tried replacing many things, but still get an error starting wifi supplicant daemon on logcat.
Just curious, not like I expect anything to ever become usable haha

hm did you replace wlan.ko ? you should
also take a look at init.sapphire.rc:
Ive changed wpa_supplicant service a little because wlan_loader is not used as in eclair/froyo roms. my *wpa_supplicant.exec* loads the firmware and then starts *real* wpa_supplicant.
I realy dont have an idea whether firmware & tiwlan.ini are different for trout/sapphire. if they are you can edit wpa_supplicant.exec to load propper firmware files..
EDIT: this will not be usable untill we get gingerbrad sources published by google. then maybe cyanogen will do a build for us. I heard he will not support sapphire/trout anmore and if and *only if* it is true I will try to make a working one. I hope it isn't true and cyanogen will still suport our devices because he can do it better than me for sure

Anyone done any work porting this? I'm currently working to compile this for my fender. Hopefully with the new radio. Which I've read doesn't work, so... anyone found a working one? I'm running eclipse to compile but if you'd like to help, let me know what you use and I'll send you what I've got.

Do we not have a Cyanogen team for the Mez?

just as the title says.
i figured we would have a CM6 or CM7 done for the mez a long time ago...
wish i knew how... i tried it once and, yeah, i am not a programmer, i am a hardware guy.

Last I heard, Cyanogen said that we won't be getting it officially. It would have to come from someone porting it.
I would look for Ultimate, MIUI, and Gingerbread first. But, who knows. Maybe someone will get it done.

MIUI is not an easy one to do because it was never designed for any american phone. i was very active in the MIUI EVO dept. and the guy there was having a real p.i.t.a. with several things.
i like it, its a neat rom though.
ultimate, never heard of it. and gingerbread... sh|t we are just now seeing a froyo leak. i doubt we will see a GB rom even a leaked version for 10 months.
i am very happy with the samsung rom, they did a fantastic job. but am always looking for better.
The 2.6.32 kernel is very compatible with Android 2.3. You may see some SCH-I500 Gingerbread sooner than later.

[Q] 2.2 (Non-USCC) or 2.3 ROM for Mesmerize?

Is there a 2.2 (that doesn't come from USCC) or 2.3 ROM available for the Mesmerize?

Well, being that 2.2 isn't out yet for the Mesmerize from USCC, yes. Now if you are talking about something other than the intended firmware, then the simple answer is no. If you want to flash AOSP there is a few variations floating about. All of which will make some part of your phone non functional. There is a mostly non working port of MIUI that is available also. There are several options right now. None of which are really that great for someone who wants a fully functional phone at this point and most of which are for the Fascinate so I really don't recommend them even though a lot of people are able to flash them and come back. It really depends on what you are wanting. We are currently working on a couple of things, but again, they will be based on the firmware that is coming out from USCC so if you are trying to get away from that type of firmware, then you will have to wait until those projects are done and we get source code for 2.2 to get other things working.

There is a spot on their site for Galaxy S, but no team assigned, so no cyanogen - at least in the near future.
These things are on my list guys (= But as the semester progresses I have less and less free time. If you want to wait I will get around to it eventually. Work 40+ hours a week, plus 10 college credits this semester... If I had some free time I'd love to get involved in development. Maybe in the summer if there's still a need in the scene.

This would be awesome! T-minus two weeks... That does seem too specific to allow weaseling.
Edit: I take that back. T-minus sometime this week?!?
I assume the only Milestone Cincinnati bell carries is the XT720 so it could only mean that when it says Milestone?
Official 2.2. would be nice. Though I'd love to see them add 2.3 by now since I do have 2.2 an official version would be good to fix some issues I assume (and it would be cool if they changed stuff like they did for the Droid X gingerbread update - status bar +UI improvements etc...).
Though hypothetically, if this did happen would the update only be for Cincinnati Bell users and the rest of us would have to get the benefits over here on XDA only?
Yes the XT720 is the only Milestone in CBs lineup. The Motorola update page still lists the US XT720 as staying on 2.1 so I guess we'll just to wait & see.
I really do hope its some sort of official build. I still have the xt as my backup phone, but the mytouch is my daily driver. Hope for the best guys!
aaaah, just unlock the ****in bootloader or give us 2.3
who needs 2.2 for now, dexter and the other developers (khalpowers, mioze7oe and so on) did GREAT work

It would be nice to get a kernel version bump like the Milestone did. And a more froyo-friendly partition layout would be nice too. We'll see.
I will be going to the Cincinnati Bell store tomorrow after work to yell at them for messing up my bill...again.
I will be sure to inquire about this when I go.

Check with Dexter or Khalpower. may be CincyBell bought their ROM and testing for upgrade. lol

We'll have to see. It depends on whether the partition sizes changed. Motorola likes to include the partition tables in the kernel so that would require flashing sbf to use a new boot.img. If they use the same kernel version, we can probably make an update.zip to deal with changes in system.img changed size. We'll have to see what if anything we get.
Well, I talked to several people at Cincinnati Bell today...
It's not looking good. I was told that there were quite a number of people at Cincinnati Bell who were working on this project, and that a legitimate ROM was produced and tested, BUT... Motorola doesn't want them to release it. I wasn't told why, but you can guess. Motorola hates all of us and secretly wants us all dead. Kidding.
Seriously though, it sounded like Cincinnati Bell DOES have a working froyo ROM. If only someone had a way of getting their hands on it....
I'll keep trying.
Sounds like we need to invite one of their field testers to a bar, gizmodo style.

Sightings of Cincinnati Bell XT720 running 2.2 in employee hands predate the Motoroi 2.2 release. Also, I discussed froyo at length and its development progress at Cincinnati Bell when I purchased my XT720 early last September.
If you want to get even more speculative, http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/ reports performance results for XT720 running 2.3 (not sure if this is easy to fake, though). Where are these ROMs!?!
2.3 ??
I only find results for our XT720 with Dexter's 2.2 on the page you posted.
but I don't comprehend why Motorola doesn't even want to unlock our bootloaders.. I mean that shouldn't be that much work for them and so the customers could do the things on their own and Motorola can continue ignoring us and not giving us any updates???

Go "Advanced Filter" and select "Motorola Milestone XT720". There are results for 2.3.2. This direct link may work, but I'm not sure:

[Q] It is possible to develop a 2.3 rom for the XT720?

Is there a project for an android rom 2.3 with baseband Europe or USA? I like the work being done, but an android rom 2.3 would make a big difference for this phone.
One suggestion would be to make a port of the Milestone 2.3 rom. Or use a Cyanogem 2.3.5. If developers need help testing or other things, I am available.
But I want to make this suggestion which I think is helpful.

hey bud, welcome to our forum as I suppose you are new. We are very fortunate with the ROM's we have presented to you as it has been a long tough road for the few Dev's we are so fortunate to have here. Considering Moto did not offer us an upgrade to 2.2 and the locked bootloader it has been a tough road to 2.2, as most other good phones with less or same as or better Hardware all got the 2.2 upgrades, therefore it was easier for the Dev's of those phones to proceed forward to a 2.3 ROM. We are very proud of the progress our dev's have made to help bring us 2.2 we are just now getting close to perfection. So you may have come at a good time, your struggle to get to 2.2 is already bypassed and there are a few Dev's currently working on ways to bring us 2.3. If you take the time to look around the threads you can see their progress. As for me, I am very grateful for our 2.2's since Moto never intended for us to have it! lol.

Definitely agreed I remember the time when I saw this forum asking Dexter to help make 2.2 ROM and since then, the devs here have managed to make many wonderful and stable 2.2 ROMs. As for me, I'm not too concerned with gingerbread cos I perfectly happy with the 2.2 ROMs!!
