Ear Speaker Not Working - myTouch 4G General

I was just wondering if any of u had this issue. Mine stop working yesterday after it fell from my lap about 3 feet high on the carpet. Everything works except the ear speaker I mention earlier. Its well protected with a TPU case. Tried rebooting, etc.. still didnt work. Id appreciate the help if someone could help me solve the the issue. Had it more than 3 months.
If all else fails id probaly get a replacement or sell it on craigs and go for the G2x comming out soon. just my 2 cents ;-P

This is just a shot in the dark but maybe a wire got jared loose when it fell. This happened to my zune when I dropped it. I fixed it by opening it up and resoldering the wires to the board. Did you buy it new? Should still have insurance if so.
Good luck.

yeah its new, im the original owner. Im just gonna go to tmobile and see what happens. Thanks

My rubber ring fell off

The Phone is 3 months old and my rubber ring just fell off, not the whole wheel though...
Any suggestins how I can fix it back on again, or should I return the handset ?
Thanks
nid
This happened to me and I returned it and they happily put another one on (but took 28 days to do so)!!!
It happened to a friend of mine too, who also sent it back. Then it happened again, so she just super glued it back on.
If it were me, and it was still in warranty, I'd send it back.
When mine came off I just placed it back on and applied presure. After a few days of not using the wheel it should stick. Mine hasn't come off since
Thanks guys
I washed the ring and the wheel witha little soapy water and a wet cloth to get the fluff off and pushed it back on again. so far so good.
The fone is in waranty, so if it comes off again, I'll consider returning it.
Again, Thanks
nid
my xda orbit 2 rubber ring fell off too
hi, it happened to me as well, my wheel rubber ring fell of i stick it back on but after few weeks i noticed it wasn't on it, it must have fell off but i can't do anything about it cos i bought my xda orbit 2 from ebay. will have to manage without it, don't thing u can buy just a rubber ring on its on, or can u?
I've had this problem and am on my 4th handset... O2 will replace the entire handset if you tell them to... never ask what they can do for u... just TELL them and they get it done... but it's better if you're with O2 online rather that the shops as they get a guy to deliver the new one and pick up the old one at the same time... so ur not without a phone!
yup, I'm getting my THIRD handset from O2 today becase of the ring falling off. I did try superglueing one of them back on but the glue reacted with the rubber and it turned in to a big mess! It's a good phone but this is a serious problem, it must be costing HTC a fortune to keep replaceing the handsets.
Why don't you just go to a local "home center" or a similar store, buy some glue that intended to bind rubber with metal, use it, and forget the issue ?
if I was 6 months in to my contract I'd of been more pro active about doing that but the wheel to fall off within a month, it was going back! if it continues to happen I may give that a go though. (assumeing the ring doesn't get lost)
Hi there,
Sorry to drag this up again !
I also have a XDA Orbit 2 as a second handset, bought off Ebay so no warranty with O2 online etc etc.
I need the rubber ring - quite why HTC decided to just stick it on with double sided tape stuff is beyond me!
Is there anywhere I can get a replacement rubber ring from? failing that, anyone know of a decent DIY job ? I tried getting a 'washer' from a local DIY type shop, it fits perfectly, but is about 2mm too deep - I couldn't 'shave' 2mm off either as internally it's metal.
Help anyone?!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!
Hi all,
Just bumping this..
Anywhere that I can get the rubber ring? or anyone know of a cheapo DIY version?
Cheers!
Dennis! West London UK!
Mine fell off and I just do without it. the 2 small holes are handy for twiddling the wheel while using the stylus
Some people said that this rubber rings can be found in ebay... but wht don't you give your phone for repair in o2 shop? if it's within 2 years from purchase won't cost you a cent/penny
Hi there,
I didn't buy the phone via O2 or their shops - it was purchased from an independant seller off Ebay.
Will O2 still replace the rubber ring in this case?
Still haven't seen a listing on Ebay for a replacement ring either...
I'm looking to sell the phone so just want it replaced so it's a 'complete' handset.

Replacement Speakers Found!

Edit: bought one from ebay, worked fine. Sounds a bit tinny, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm just glad to have it working.
I finally found a place with replacement speakers for the Nexus One. I had to email them to inquire about it because it wasn't listed on their site. They later emailed me back saying they had to check if their supplier had them.
Then they emailed me back telling me they've listed the part. I know a lot of people have had problems with theirs crackling, and mine blew out entirely.
So for anyone interested, here's the link (if I can post links, not sure.)
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/OEM-Google-Nexus-One-Speaker-p/htc736640.htm
The minimum buy limit however is 5, and I plan on buying some. So if anyone needs one let me know.
And just for fun, let me tell you all what I've put my Nexus through.
First, within the first 2 months of release I dropped it from my lap while getting out of the car and shattered the screen. I've since managed to replace the digitizer and got it up and working perfectly again.
Then, I dropped it in a tub of water, while it was on and I was watching youtube videos!
That time I managed to save all but the speaker, by quickly pulling the battery, then giving it an alcohol bath.
Update!
There's now one listed on Ebay for $5.98, they have over 10 in stock.
I've just placed an order, I'll report back here with my results when it arrives.
At least the speaker is easy to replace.
need better speaker rather then the oem's

did you replace the digitizer yourself? or did u send it in for repairs and if so how much did it cost? I recently cracked my screen T_T
just bought a used nexus and the speaker is awful. where'd you'd see about doing the replacement yourself?
Zephyron: yes, I replaced it myself. I ordered the digitizer off of ebay for around $70.that was about 2 months after the phone came out. Prices should have dropped by now.
Damngood98: from my digitizer repair I knew replacing the speaker would be a simple job of dropping the part in. all you need to do is remove the black plastic housing where the battery sits (3 security screws and some gentle prying with an ipod pry tool) and just swap the parts.

i saw that you posted a link to the site that has them with a minimum order, and then mentioned you found it on ebay
any chance that you ordered a batch of them and have an extra laying around? would hate to have to wait 3-4 weeks to get one from hong kong
are these stock speakers or are they better quality than stock? i'd be curious to buy one off you if they are better sounding.
Are any of these ebay "buzzer" speakers, the same thing as the N1 external speaker?

i have had my phone apart and im not quite sure how to seperate the screen from the chassis. out of curiosity i once looked up th screen to see what comes with it hoping there was a whole assembly but there wasn't much. it looks like a delicate operation to change the screen. most of the disassembly is very easy but the screen is something i wont try unless i need to, it looks risky.
Looks like this is your best option really. Just replace it all.

The same thing happened to my spare 37" flat screen when my brother was moving it. That really sucked.
Unfortunately I did the same thing last night. My screen cracked when it landed face down on the tile. My problem is that I have a warranty exchange for the shutdown issue coming in a couple of days. Now I have to call AT&T and tell them I dropped the phone and the warranty is void. Or maybe I could just send it as is and try to blame it on the mailing process. I don't want to take a chance on it though.
Amazon or ebay it'll run ya around 80$

I don't have any idea how he got it in there either!
Repair info:
http://capfaq.com/w/Repair
We also offer it as a service: http://mobiletechvideos.com/Products___Services.html
Be careful not to tear the ribbon assembly for the capacitive buttons when removing everything!
A Blessing in disguise
Well I got off the phone with AT&T...apparently they have no proof of my last upgrade in there system and my contract expired on the 8th of December. This also means that they have no record of insurance on my Captivate either. On the plus side...Maybe now I can switch carriers and get myself a Nexus S instead. I'll have to talk it over with the wife. Overall who has had experience with T-Mo? How is their support and service?
I enjoyed my time with T-Mobile except that I never had reliable 3G service indoors. Also I'm a little bitter about how they handle porting service out (they charge you a full month of service when you port out unless you call them to cancel after the port).
You could always port your number over and switch back to the Death Star within 30 days if you don't like the Nexus S....
There was a guy who did this several months ago with his Captivate. Posted pictures and everything. Seemed like a very good tutorial.

Should I get a new Thunderbolt?

The paint on the kickstand is chipping away, but that's not really a big deal but now the back of the speaker is lifting up. The only thing I am afraid of is if they send me another phone it more then likely will be a refurbish unit and on top of that the phone that I have now don't really have any reboot problems. My XDA fellows what should I do?
Oh yea I know somebody going say I dropped my phone and etc, that's not the case I notice the build quality on this phone is not very good
I'd be leary given the rebooting issues, but to be honest I have faith in refurbs. Never treated me wrong.

That's what I am scared about. Honestly I get maybe two reboots every week and a half.
Hang onto it for a little while. Might be fine.

I was thinking about putting a little bit of crazy glue to hold down the speaker
VERY little. I assume you're just talking about the little plastic grate over it, in which case a little dab'll do ya just fine. Careful with that.
Keep in mind I don't own a TBolt yet, but I've been around the block with gadgets and gizmos.

Handle my phone very carefully....I notice the paint coming off the same day I purchased it. Never dropped my phone.
I came from the hd2 and imo it has way better build quality then this phone
I would just put a tiny dap of super glue if you go that route, also i have had good luck with refurbs over the years but i know several people that have not been so lucky unfortenetly.
Also if the kick stand is pealing hit it with a little sand paper and polish looks way better that way. Saw a post some one made in the general forum and it looked really nice so did it myself as well.
DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE!
My plastic speaker grill on my Bolt started to come up so I put some super glue on it thinking it'd stick it back down. WRONG! The glue started to come up through the small holes in the speaker grill and now it's very rough to the touch and I cannot remove it.
Also, the paint on my kickstand is also peeling, but that's not a problem. All you need to do is sand the paint of with a Scotchbrite Pad and then polish it. It looks better than new.

reason why I dont want to go the reboot route is because I am real scared to get a unit that's going reboot every sec. So far I am really not having much problems with this unit when it comes to rebooting. The speaker thing is really bothering me..its like when you a little kid and you keep on picking at your cut

I say that if you have not voided your warranty send it back. This is what a warranty is for.
If you get a phone that reboots all the time keep sending them back as well untill you get a working Thunderbolt. Enough people send the phone back for "real" warranty issues and maybe HTC will improve their build quality.
Sorry but just like dadsterflip said I'm very picking when it comes to cosmetic as well and what your describing would drive me nuts or I would just end up hating the phone.
I returned my first Thunderbolt because of the light leak at the bottom of the screen and made them open 4 brand new Thunderbolts to find one that did not have the same issue.

Yeah, that's what some dude on twitter told me he used to sand down his kickstand lol... I actually tried it a few hours after that post and it didn't work to well... maybe I was doing it wrong, though lol.
Got my refurbished phone yesterday and it rebooted five times today...I am sending it back and keeping this phone wit the broken speaker grill...I'm not getting another unit until they release the new update at the end of the month...couldn't hang up phone calls...couldn't put the phone on airplane mode....really disappointed with HTC and this phone...I can't wait till a better phone comes out
The coating on my kickstand started peeling like two days after I bought the phone. I've been peeling it off ever since. Definitely not a misuse scenario, just a poor coating. Doesn't really bother me since it'll all be gone soon anyways. I'd be a little pissed if the speaker grille started coming off though.
spoke to about three representatives and they said an updated is coming at the end of the month.....The speaker grill is really bothering me tho but I can't take swapping out refurbish phones just find a working unit...hopefully the new update fixes this issue
I heard the update is being released 6-15-11...

Heard end of the month...one rep said its gingerbread but I don't think he knows what he's talking about

[Q] i think my screen is defective.

My screen looks amazing, all the colors look well saturated, etc no ghosting that i know of. but there is one issue.. whenever i press on the right bottom corner the digitizer actually presses on the LCD and makes that weird magnitized look when you would press on a new TV LCD or laptop LCD.. if you have a laptop or new tv you should know what i mean lol. This exact thing happened on my old HD7 with the same size screen. i seem to have problems with phones with 4.3" screens lol. ive had every mytouch phone from htc and the g1 and none have had this problem. even my atrix didnt have this problem and its a piece of poo.
Does anyone else have this issue? i mean its not a HUGE issue since you never really press down the right bottom corner but still. it bugs the crap out of me knowing its there. i would hate to send it back and wait weeks without a phone too =/ i bought it from ebay for $270 used with scratches lol so i wonder if they dropped it or something.
another weird thing is when i take it out of the battery case the problem is even worse because the phone case is kinda loose so the screen pushes into the case? i might buy a case mate case and see if it stops the problem..
also, where the problem is.. the screen colors are still perfect. its just when i press in that area. id be fine with it if the problem didnt get worse. it did on my HD7 though
Just the way its made unfortunately. Case isn't gonna make a difference. What worked for me (not completely. gone but significantly reduced) was put a little piece Of paper in the case is that corner and ever since I haven't seen it. You have to press pretty hard to see it. Hope that helps.

thanks for reply. glad to see im not the only one with the problem though! i will have to try it, just a small piece on the right side or what? well i thought the case would work because it has part that cover the front. i know it wouldnt make the problem go away but it would make me or other people no able to press there.
