This thread will be devoted to testing Android applications downloaded from the Amazon appstore for Android onto my Asus Eee PC 900 with 16GB SSD and 1GB DDR2 RAM. Only 2 GB of the internal memory is available for installation of the Android applications.
I used the build downloaded here at: http://www.android-x86.org/download with http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/downloads/detail?name=android-x86-2.2-eeepc.iso&can=2&q= as the specific one.
I suspect incompatibility of the apk with this version of Android due to different chipset. My Eee PC 900 has an Atom chip whereas the general Android devices have ARM processors (or Tegra). Some issues are similar to that of installing apk's onto the Cruz Tablet as well.
So far I have tested:
1) Amazon Appstore for Android- downloaded through official Amazon's website and e-mail link and works like a charm. Easily the best marketplace for alternative devices.
2) Flight Control- does not work
3) Amazon MP3- works (need to change language)
4) Angry Birds- does not work and crashes the netbook
5) Angry Birds Seasons- does not work and crashes the netbook
6) Fruit Ninja- does not work
7) Movies (Flixster)- does not work
8) Opentable- does not work
9) Shazam- does not work
10) Newsweek- works well
11) Birdsong- works
12) Twitter- does not work
13) Soundhound- does not work
14) Wordsmith Free- works
15) Wifi Analyzer- works
16) Kindle for Android- works
17) Mancala- works
18) Bubble Buster- works
19) Adorable Hamsters Wallpaper- works
I believe that any application that doesn't use the NDK should run, that is the magic behind Dalvik. Unfortunately NDK for x86 is not available.
I am new to Android and have been reading some about x86.
It seems to me that x86 NDK does exist.
android x86 site /documents/ndk-how-to
If somebody had all Android developer tools and the Apk tool
google code /p/android-apktool
It may be possible to rebuild for x86 using its own NDK.
I obviously do not have idea on the specifics involved and accomplish this task. It seems a bit of work, but it may be possible to test, and provided there is a procedure, perhaps script the whole thing up and have a conversion tool or something like that.
Hi - just installed AndroidX86 froyo eeepc-version at my eee900 and im fascinated how fast it works after many useless attempts of damn SDK-simulator ...
Im getting most apps by using 4shared.com ... but we really need that NDK i guess aswell as an flash-player alternative for x86.
Hope XDA is making a device-thread called X86 - i love Android 2.2 on my EeePC but its not very usefull without all that hacking ppls know on this board
20) XiiaLive v2.1.5 - works
21) LauncherPro - works ( )
22) No-Frills CPU Control - seems to work (cant monitor by now)
23) Skyfire Browser - works but has problems with flash-video to fullsize.
24) SeePU - works
I guess if i would know how to start android x86 without the Grub-bootloader it would boot under 10 seconds
Adobe PDF Viewer doesn't work - and all apps that are comming with arm code.
Someone test other app and games compatible with android x86 4.0 ?
i test the game assaulter , flick shot basketball, paper toss and they works

Im tripple booting Ubuntu, Windows 7 Ultimate, and AndroidX86 4.0 RC1 on my AspireOne d257-1417 using the Asus build. I did have to swap my wifi card out but luckily I had a spare supported one laying around.
Anywho, all you have to do is use a Live Installer for Ubuntu ( Or just install it as it comes in handy ) and edit grub to boot your chosen OS in "x " seconds. If you only have android installed, just set it to Zero and it will instaboot. I have mine set to 3 seconds and booting windows first.
Personally Id recommend installing an actual Linux distro even if its a lightweight one like Puppy ( its like 150Mb Installed ), and install Grub2 into the MBR. Life will become MUCH easier as it really is the most robust Bootloader available.
i tested these
temple run 1-2 dont work
root explorer work
app backup e restore work
ram manager pro work
cute the rope work
granny smith not work
fruit ninja not work
lucky patcher work
tap the frog not work
some apps and game that u say are now working correctly on 4.4
Can anyone do my a favor and check if Allcast works?
Cheers

think i'm hooked.
just ran into this and i think i'm hooked.
Something like this is the missing link in my arsenal.
Has anyone purchased tested? What do you think?
Hi there, this looks interesting anyone using this device? would like to hear
a hand on report
btw where can we buy this device and price??
ive been researching this tablet for a few hours now and from what i can tell theres no market app...which wouldnt be so bad because you could download all the apks to your sd card, but theres also no file explorer which means that plan is moot. everything though, is a dream!
I purchased one of these little beauties with 2.1 on it. When running 2.1, the bluetooth, audio and gps are broke. Audio works but is very quiet, bluetooth and gps simply do not work. I used adb to install apps, most fc'd after install. There is a new ROM out for it that fixed most of the fc's, but did not fix bt or gps. When I contacted support, I was told that if i wanted to use gps I should install wince...
Otherwise, the device is very sexy, very fast and feels to be quite durable. If they can get the 3 issues listed above worked out, this thing will be awesome.
Well? Where is the update. Have you made any progress with the wisitech? Access to marketplace at this point?
Thanks for keeping us updated!

Newest firmware fixed low sound,no gps,and has market. Also has Flash with froyo.

It looks like this wisitech has a lot of support? Is it performing up to expectations since the last few firmware updates?

ViewSonic is releasing a 10.1-inch tablet that will dual boot Windows 7 and Android 1.6.
http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_new...nics-10-inch-tablet-boots-windows-and-android
My question is, why ONLY Android 1.6??? Android 2.x has been out for months and they can't have it integrated into this device? Bad decision in my opinion. Although the article does say ViewSonic has another tablet that has Android 2.2, it isn't one that dual boots. Just thought I'd share.
Witstec A81G
I just ordered the A81G (supposedly everything is working), with 2.2.
I ordered it because (in theory) it dual boots into WinCe and 2.2, GPS working in both operating systems, removable battery (most do not and most do not have very long battery life, makes the product virtually useless, as a mobile device) once the battery is dead) and a matte screen.
If all the above is true then it is one heck of a deal at $205, shipped (ordered it from Hotmid). It is it not then it will make a great paper weight.
The videos of the product on YouTube seemed very promising.
Once I get it (I was too cheap to pay for quicker shipping), around Jan 151011, I will post my review and indicate whether I accomplished the dual boot.
I even saw a video on line showing it with Multi-touch. Hmmm.
Problem with Market solved
This is the solution.
Android market setting
1) Press Home button
2) Click settings
3) Chose Applications / Manage applications
4) click Running TAB
5) Find Market program in the list and click
6) Click :
a. Clear cache
b. Force stop
7) Press back button On 81
8) Find Google Services Framework and click (Running TAB)
9) Click
a. Clear data (DELTE warning will appear. Click OK)
b. Force stop
10) Go back to Home page of A81
11) Try to Run Market
12) You should see new window with following message: An error occurred. Please try
again. (this is good message telling that all steps was done successfully)
13) Turn OFF device
14) Turn ON device
15) Make sure you have Internet connection (WiFi or other) and SD card is inserted
16) Run Market
Now its working fine.
Anyone else has this device yet? I have been hacking this but no Marketplace. Any takers?

Hi....I installed some apps from my G1 also. But the ones that depend on the market for update or rely on web interaction either won't install, force close or don't work quite right.
Man I sure hope that someone might tackle rooting this device soon. I think it has so much potential for being a useful device.
Rooting the Cruz Micro
Via tether its already rooted. Just adb shelled in and su works fine. So no rooting necessary as I understand it. However I am not a firmware guy so just my experience.
I did notice when I used Cruz Marketplace I got the option for Android Marketplace which has thousands of apps - not sure its Google's but worked well. One item to note is that the CPU in these is not an ARM but MIP's. It hasn't been a problem for me (if I am desperate I will just use a cross compiler to build something) but I have heard it caused issues on other forums for people.

Processor Information/Docs
I was in with ADB playing and got this from cat'ing procinfo.
system type : JZ4760
Hardware : PT701
processor : 0
cpu model : Ingenic Xburst V4.15 FPU V0.0
BogoMIPS : 527.56
wait instruction : yes
microsecond timers : no
tlb_entries : 32
extra interrupt vector : yes
hardware watchpoint : yes, count: 1, address/irw mask: [0x0fff]
ASEs implemented : mxu
shadow register sets : 1
core : 0
VCED exceptions : not available
VCEI exceptions : not available
Googling Igenic will find their site for you. Notice the XBurst in the name. They have a lot of PDF's and information on their FTP site which the website links too. Unfortunately they have great detailed PDF's on the JZ4755 but nothing on the JZ4760. Had me wondering if they took a previous design and just customized a bit for the client.
I do realize of course that a LOT can change in even a small revision of a chip. Anyway - for the 4755 they have cross build tools, linux demos, board designs, nand and usbboot instructions etc.. Even the tool chains to build for the mip's.
Man this is the best XMas present my wife has got me in years
Is there a hack to install Android Market on this Cruz Tablet? Thanks.
Android App Store App
The Cruz Marketplace (cruzmarket_com/mkt/mhome.asp) currently has a app listed 5th from the top as I am viewing it now called:
AndAppStore - Android Market Place App
FREE
This is how I installed mine, and it works like a charm.

(sorry for incomplete URL but am noob and can't post URL's)
I would love to find out if there is a way to port any of the existing ROMs to this device. The touchscreen is not responsive enough with the current firmware, but the keyboard is- that tells me there is the ability to increase responsiveness... other than that, the ability to run auto task killers would help because it looks like most apps stay resident and slow the device down considerably. Two problems that can be fixed by tweaking the firmware I believe- any developers out there with the desire to take this on?
You may want to check what's going on at slatedorid's forum. Google slate droid velocity cruz... cannot post the link
I have one as well.
I really like the device even though other tablets are offering better features in low-end tablets. I checked Best Buy today and it was $169. I got it for $199 last week before CES. I have the 7 inch T10(x) series. The capacitive display is ok for me, its like getting to know a new friend. Lack of security, Android Market, and built in obsolescence of the OS are bummers.
Worst - a smart device that keeps all your stuff but doesn't even have simple password/PIN protection. Doh!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that app does NOT give you access to the true Android Marketplace. The Android Marketplace is a Google hosted site, and it has thousands of apps. The Android App Store has less than 2k apps, definitely missing some big important ones, like the Pandora app for Android.
There ARE hacks to get the Android Market for the Reader, but so far I've not found a hack for the Tablet (and yes, there IS a difference).
Good luck to the OP. If anyone comes across a hack for the Tablet, I would love to know.

ugh
I got the T408, i have tried twice to install market and failed both times. I am one-click-rooted as it has the 2.3 Gingerbread... easy enough... now i just cant get half the apps i want from Amazon, or Applanet.
Google Market on Cruz Velocity T410
OK so my son got the T410 for christmas, I've got it rooted and am working on a push for the google market and frameworks. Should have it pretty soon. I'll post it as soon as I do.
UPDATE:
I will go through this quickly as it was actually pretty easy. This is how I did it, I had no problems so I would not anticipate any, however standard disclaimer, I can't be held responsible for anything you do to your device, I am simply sharing my experience. What you choose to do is up to you. I didi this on the T410, but I would expect it to work the same on the T408
1. Rooted with gingerbreak and installed superuser and busybox over it (search for it)
2. Placed the app folder (found inside the gapps.zip attached to this post) on my internal sd card.
3. Installed the apps in this order:
I DID NOT OPEN ANY OF THESE APPS AFTER INSTALLATION, ONLY CHOOSE DONE AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
onetimeinitializer.apk
setup.apk
googleservicesframework.apk
gmail.apk
maps.apk
talk.apk
vending.apk
AFTER THE LAST ONE IS INSTALLED, I REBOOTED MY TABLET.
Upon reboot I let the tablet fully cycle the sd card checks and all that, once I swiped to unlock the home screen, I was met with a decision asking whether to use Launcher, of Setup Wizard to complete the action.
CHECK THE BOX TO USE ACTION AS DEFAULT AND CHOOSE LAUNCHER
4. I then opened the google market, signed in with my gmail account and once it had synced my device with the google servers (yes WIFI must be on and connected, I had to say it because you just never know) I had access to the market.
I have downloaded a few apps and have had no problems, it is an older version of the market and I don't have market updater installed, but I may try that later.
I have also noticed when looking in the account and sync area, it will sync my gmail, but not my contacts or calender, I will have to look at that later as well.
Hope this helps

Was Able to root my wife's T408 as well with gingerbreak and have market 3.3.4 running on it now.
First I installed apps in the order you did had done. The version of Market is dated for sure but I was able to update to 2.2.6 via the stock OI File Explorer. Anything later then that seemed to crash. I then used SU & File Explorer to r/w the /system/apps/ folder , moved the newer 3.3.4 Market APK there and installed from that location along with a system reboot. Once rebooted the new market showed up right away. Only issue is some apps list as not compatible with device but having my wife use her Sidekick 4g to download and back up the app and email it to her tablet Netflix , Firefox , and many others ran with no issue even with Market saying not compatible.

I have noticed that as well. Seems like since the Market added the ability for apps to be device specific that alot of apps don't show up for devices that aren't supported. I am playing a little with the build.prop file and when I get it correct I will let you know. Even root explorer would not show up in the market, but I purchased it from amazon and Im using it to drop apps into place.
Android Market - I used the JGM ROM, rooted with z4root, and had blank Market. Accessing market via laptop showed my Cruz listed, but no serial number. Gave up, but then by luck a week later, I went to the Market on my laptop, found an App and selected my Cruz as the device to download it to. 2 hours later, sure enough the Market was working, and that select app downloaded.
It almost seems like you have to prime the market first for the Cruz via a computer...

Hey guys, stupid question. Anyone got either a digital copy of the atv-3000 manual or a set of instructions re: SATA installation ?
I got a box with no paper or CD or any reference. Just the ATV 3000 and it's hardware parts and trying to get a SATA 2gig drive working inside it.
Any help appreciated.

I am using TCP port 443.. Working fine.. streaming youtube now from behind GCFW.
What I found on connect was..
On Ethernet - It will connect, but then it will turn off the Ethernet connection so the connection drops..
Turn on Wifi, Open the Openvpn connection again and it connects, Ethernet connection also shows up for a bit..
Drops off.. but connection is kept on Wifi..
So by using DroidVpn or OpenVpn for Android, or Via a VPN'ed connection on a laptop/USB-doggle from a desktop via "Connectfiy" your users can be using the Xios ICS with VPN's as is..

So I've been playing around with my SL101, and finally got a version of ubuntu working (kindof) enough to do some playing and whatnot.
Currently using the TF101 image from lilstevie (unzipped to /sdcard/ubuntu.img ) and ubuntu-mountloop.zip from here (which I flash from recovery because i can't apx mode because of SBK's not found for my device).
I'm just running into a few issues:
Onboard keyboard not recognized (any release) (on boot it looks for a dock and doesn't find one, but the SL101 technically doesn't have one)
Intermittent stalling inside ubuntu
Touch isn't what I wish it would be like (no swipe, no longpress for menu, etc)
WiFi only works in one version I've tested: lilstevie's
We need development on the SL101, or at least some kind of guide helping semi-advanced users inject the needed modules/drivers to load things specific to the SL101! (onboard keyboad, remove secondary battery indicator, etc)
I'd really love to get all the kinks out and have a stable ubuntu dualboot (be it, pseudo dualboot, still none the less)
Now, I was asking around a couple of days ago in #android and #android-root on freenode, and found out, for "ubuntu for phones" (which we should see a version hit for the galaxy nexus near the end of this month) they're actually using android drivers, so I'm wondering if anyone's played with this at all, i.e. loading ubuntu with android's drivers and having everything work out of the box...

Because it uses the same device drivers as Android, Ubuntu for phones will be able to run on a wide variety of hardware, ranging from entry-level devices with single-core processors to advanced "superphones" based on multi-core ARM and Intel chips.

So I've been doing a lot of looking around and I got a surface w. 8.1 for work as I needed MS Office. The only thing that I would like to be able to do is to MOD it so that I can put Google play on it and run android apps. I see that there is application called BlueStacks an emulator, I downloaded the .exe but the surface gives me the message that it can't run the exe. I went into the device and configured it to all untrusted apps via a YouTube I found and that did not work.
I'm not looking to make major changes to it. I am happy with it but want to add my android app. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Btw I am a complete noob on how to do this.

I use DuOs. Haven't had one issue with it at all. It uses a newer version of android than bluestacks runs everthing like an android tablet would. They give you a free trial soo after that its not free. But i think the trial is like 30 days.
Cool do you have a direct link?
Ya I did some looking up online and it doesn't say a whole lot on where to start and get set up with the 30 day trial and what not. Any suggestions
Here's the link. Like i said, it's a free trial with all the features for 30 days. Then after that its a one time charge. I liked it soo much that I bought it and have been using it for a couple months without issues. Once installed you'll have to setup the android stuff just like its dual booting. You'll have to type in the wifi passwords and select the wifi networks. There's also a box to check in the android settings to give full root access to run android programs that require a rooted device. One thing that i recommend is closing the DuOs program completely when finished. You can switch between windows and android just like using a regular windows program but it doesn't like when windows goes in "sleep" mode while its running. I always close the program when i'm not using it. The app can be ended by entering windows task manager if it ever becomes unstable but i haven't experienced anything other than the waking up from "sleep" mode. I've noticed with several games that my surface running Duos, plays them smoother and more responsive than my Sony Xperia Tab Z. Hope this helps!

Thank you I downloaded the .exe and it will not run on my tablet. There was jail break .bat file that I ran on the surface but how do I check to see if it worked ?

That's your problem there. As I understand it, you cannot install third party apps on the RT version of windows. You will only be able to install apps from the microsoft store.
Damn regretting RT 8.1 more an more everyday
