I want to be reassured.... - Thunderbolt General

I want to be reassured that I have not had more phones than the average person who loves phones. In the past five years i've had or tried:
Razor look alike from Sprint
Samsung Blast
A purple moto flip
The Atrix
Bb Bold
Bb curve
Bb torch
Iphone 3g (2x)
Lg Xenon
Backflip
Evo 4g
Two different very whacks phones from Metropcs
And now I have the Thunderbolt.
Ridiculous or normal? Also how willing are you too break a contract to get a new phone?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App

Small list and I am happy where I am. I wouldnt switch for crappy service just for a phone.

I've had twelve phones in the past five years on three different carriers. I think we both might be going overboard with phones haha.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

Ive got your list beat by 7 phones and no, people dont consider me normal

In the last year I've had more than that I think. Not in order cause can't remember
iPhone 3GS
HD2 (SOOOOO many roms)
MyTouch slide
Mytouch 4G
Vibrant
Droid
BB9700
BB9800
BB Storm
BB curve 8520
BB 9650 (bought but never used)
Palm Pixi Plus
Thunderbolt
May have been others but cant think of them. Ebay, Craigslist and T-Mobile having no contract plans was awesome for my addiction. Every few months I usually get a new phone or 2.
I was on T-Mobile and just switched to VZW, that's why the list is kinda weird

Right now in my possession:
Samsung Focus,
HTC Thunderbolt
Motorola Atrix
Nexus 1
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 2g
Sold the iPhone 3g.

G1 Droid 1 Droid 2 HTC EVO 4 g and thunderbolt in tba last 2 years
THUNDERBOLT

I've had every smart phone AT&T (-4g offerings), Sprint (- 4g offerings) and Verizon had to offer along with every phone T-mobile has (minus their 4g stuff).
All in all I've had close to 40 phones. Not normal to everyone in the world, but who cares about the normal folk. You're not here because you see a phone thats pretty and buy it, suck it up for 2 years because it's actually crap. You're a man dammit!

I would say around average..
I can't think of many I have had..
(not in order)
Samsung Nexus S
Samsung Vibrant
Samsung Behold
Samsung Behold 2
Htc Wing
Htc Nexus One
Htc myTouch 4G
Htc Thunderbolt (now)
Apple iPhone 3g
Apple iPhone 3gs
Apple iPhone 4
Lg Chocolate
Motorola Razr
Sidekick Lx
Sidekick Slide
Sidekick 2009

I had the HD2 and MT4G on Tmobile. I always said of Verizon got a 4.3 inch HTC Android I was out. Here I am. Verizon so far waaaaaaaaay better.

I'm very willing to break a contract to get a new phone. I've only done it 2nd times in 6 months. However if it wasn't for 4G I probably wouldn't have done it this time. I kinda wish they would stop subsidising phones, as I would rather be able to negotiate the actual price of the phone. It doesn't seem they are as willing to give any breaks on the unsubsidised prices of phones because they have no commitment from you.

I can't even remember what all I have had in past five but I can name past couple
-OG iphone (blah)
-iphone 3G (blah)
-iphone 3Gs (blah)
-Nexus One (best for phone I have ever owned)
-Samsung Captivate (horrible last Samsung I will ever buy)
-Droid Incredible (AMOLED)
-Droid 2 (wasn't bad)
-Droid X (hated it)
-Droid Incredible (SLCD)
-Motorola Xoom (I know it's a tablet but oh well)
-HTC Thunderbolt
That's my list lately

last 2 months went through 3 phones, all HTC. Switched to Verizon after using sprint's horrible network on 3g with barely dialup speed. VZW way better. Rooted em all, don't car for sense much.
EVO 4G
Incredible(slcd)
Thunderbolt
Tbolt - VirusRom_rc1b1-drod1.8ghz

some nokia brick phone on a local carrier.
Blackberry 8330
iphone 3g
iphone 3gs
iphone 4
evo 4g
thunderbolt.
all throughout like 3 years.

Att

So my contract is up and I'm thinking about switching to ATT. I'm going to wait until the inspire 4g first. Any thoughts on ATT?
The EVO you wish you had
Data plans sucks to be honest
Right now I pay 140 a month with a 20% discount. This is for a family data plan. I would get the same discount with ATT. I think I would pay about 160 or 170 with ATT

I think it comes to around $100 a month for a single line, not sure, never had a contract in my life jsut stuck around with prepaid. also you must be carefull when on roaming, as charges are heavy. if your just going for the phone, then you should wait as there are more phones coming to other networks
Thanks for the info. I didn't know ATT charged roaming.

I meant international, dont know about local like i said i never had them, i know cause i ask them all these questions since i;m in their store checking out phones
Switch to T-Mo for the best Android phones and awesome customer support.

Frankly, if you live somewhere without 3G and want to use data, AT&T really sucks.
All this fastest network crap is moot when verizon and tmobile have high speed networks where I live and it takes me a full minute to load a web page.

Im in the same boat all my phones are going to be up this year and was thinking of switching to Tmo. but i have been with sprint for 9 or 10 years now and have not had one problem. so i might just stay with sprint.
Im on ATT and im on a family plan right now; my phone costs a total of 30 bucks a month (5 for having the line, 25 for 2gb data).
You should definitely wait until mwc to see what all comes out. The inspire looks really good though.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
I used to have AT&T and I switched to T-mo when the Nexus S was released. I got tired of my iphone and wanted to experience android. So glad i did!
I had been on AT&T for 7 years (4 years being an iphone user) and never really had any issues with there service.
I travel alot and always got wonderful reception no matter where I went ( besides LA, if you live in LA avoid AT&T)
if your looking to switch to AT&T I would deff check out the Moto Atrix 4G. Although I never liked motorola to be honest and think there phones are junk. There putting an a killer phone. Tegra 2 processor. Super AMOLED plus LCD.
Check out the Atrix 4G over the inspire, the inspire is sort of old technology I feel like when compared to the new powerhouse phones coming out with tegra 2's.
HTC should of revamped the Inspire with new internals instead of just rebranding the Desire.
Go for a company with a Unlimited Data Plan. I hate the ATT Data Plan.

[Q] worth it ?

should i wait 4 the evo 3d im using spint or go 4 the atrix?
What phone do you have now? Allthough the Atrix is an OK phone its still on AT&T so I wouldnt change carriers for that. Its my opinion Sprint has much better cust service and a better network (I know someone is going to disagree). Maybe not the best but better. I have the EVO now and I dont see how much better it could possibly get. I just think that for 500 dollars you can get a Dual core LAPTOP if thats why you are getting the phone.
I wouldnt do it just because AT&T cust service sucks. And anyone who disagrees with my statement about sprint heres my pre response. What other carrier gives new customers a 30 day FREE trial of thier network? Usually your in a contractand you have to pay your cancellation fee or something. Also for existing customers - I get a full rebate every 12 months towards a new phone as if i was a new customer. How bout it verizon?
And before you get on verizons service they use the same technology (CDMA) they roam on each other.
thanks. and i have the evo as well i agree with you so in my mind already leaning to the 3d. i was on att with the 3gs ......... hated every wasted minute with that company
then i say 3d but either way come back and let me know which one and what your experience was!
I hate to be that guy.. but i came from nextel to sprint, I will agree that there customer support is good. but the service even though sprint owns nextel or whatever is terrible in the chicago land area.
Im going with evo 3d I have evo 4g now and LG op S I played with my friends atrix and I also was told about a personal experience with the sga2 and it wasn't what I thought it would be at all nexus s no was so yea I pre ordered the 3d now waiting for a date lol

[Q] Another stupid "which phone should I get" post

Sorry for the lame post but what the heck -
My deal:
Verizon (US), off contract.
Want to tether to my Nook(CM7) so it seems like 4G would be good.
If possible, want a battery that will last me at least a day,2 would be great.
boot-loader not locked - or work around.
Not completely obsolete in 2 years.
Considering Droid Charge v. changing carriers to Sprint and getting Epic 4g. Charge is 200 bucks which seems way too much but it has a good battery (supposedly).
I thought about the Incredible 2 but 1) Not 4G and 2) locked. Same with Droid X2.
Opinions/Advice mucho appreciado'ed!
Charge or thunderbolt are the only 2 that meet your requirements I think.
Edit: Also LG revolution.

I hear thunderbolt does not disappoint!!! besides... it's from HTC and I've always been a fan of their build quality....
i had one
I second @rosshalz
Thanks folks!
Well I just saw the specs on the HTC Evo 3d. Wow. Unlocked, dual 1.2ghz, 1730miAh battery. I actually see the 3d as a minus but with it's other specs I think I'm going to switch providers to Sprint, wait a couple of weeks and go for it.
Plus it's cheaper for me (with Sprint credits) than Verizon's offerings.
I can't see any downsides.

When, where, and why did you get your Inspire, and for how much?

Let's get some stimulating conversation up in here!
I got mine on Amazon for 1 penny during a memorial day sale. I switched from my Sprint Epic 4g cuz Sprint's service was absolute crap where I live. I was missing more than half of my calls and texts and ended up hopping back onto my mom's family plan. Any interesting stories from you all?
When: Shortly after release
Where: AT&T
Why: Aria sucked
How much: Free, complain to AT&T that my wife's Aria sucked enough then told them if they sent me replacements I would just send them back until I did it 3 times and they'd offer me a replacement anyways so just save us both the trouble. Had a new Inspire overnighted and I got to keep and resell the Aria.
A week after released

Got mine the 1st day it was available @ Sam's. We were eligible for upgrade, and with the way phones were going it made sense to go smartphone. Got to play with one @BB the day before, and was impressed. Especially when compared to co-worker's crappy.
When: month ago
Where:AT&T
Why: had Verizon but service was not that great in my area, especially in my apartment which is in basement. Had about 5 different androids with them most were replacements because of service issues but none were 4G. So came to AT&T and bought a refurb inspire for $30. Service is better and love the phone.

When: a few months ago
Where: AT&T
Why: My brother needed a phone, so I let him have my Motorola Backflip. Being the complete modding geek I am, I looked into phones that had good modding ability on AT&T, and the Inspire was a good fit.

Got mine on release day (2/13/11 - I can't remember for how much). Picked it up for the extra RAM (came from a Captivate - had a lot of "low memory" issues). I used it from then all the way until the GS2 release (10/2/11), which is the longest I had ever kept one phone. Usually at this point I would sell it, but I can't . I'm using it like a tablet (wifi browsing, updating calendar events, games, etc. - pretty useful actually).
It was/is the best phone I've ever used. The GS2 will probably take that spot, but it hasn't proven itself yet . Waiting on more development to pick up.
Where: craigslist
When: 3ish months ago
Why: didn't like my atrix
How much: new in sealed box for $200

I don't get why people diss on AT&T's network. I know it is horribly overpriced and lacks certain things, but in the 10 years I've been with them I have never had serious issues with their networks.
On release day. Paid net price of $50 after selling my Captivate.
When- A month month ago
Where- Target
Traded in iPhone 3gs that I had jailbroke. Reverted to stock for return. Ended up with Inspire and 70 left on a gift card.
A couple of weeks later my wife decided to do the same thing and got an Atrix. Of course, rooted both and flashed custom Rom on mine, she kept stock.
ATT store
100$
Spring break after selling my iphone 3g for 150$ the 50$ went to my dad's 3gs
reason: iphone 3G sucks
I purchased mine on cowboom.com when they were having a sale of used phones for $119 about 2 weeks ago. I bought it because I hadn't tried Android yet, and I sometimes travel to other countries to visit family, so after some research, I saw that the Inspire had an easy root & unlock process. Plus, there's something shmexy about HTC's designs...
when-about a month and a half after release
where-Att store
why-atrix was the worst phone i have ever touched
how much-made money, sold my atrix for $350 and bought inspire for $99, used two upgrades
When hmm about a month ago
Where locally in the streets
Why cause of the huge screen and because its q modern phone and HTC hehe
How nice one there I traded a blackberry bold 9650 unlocked For it both phones were new so far trade lol inspire was unlocked with custom core Droid rom on it so I don't have to root and ect. Nice
sent from inspire 4g runing MIUI with talonace 1.0.6 kernal
I got mine on release day at AT&T for $100, needed a new phone as my Tilt 2 was getting terribly sluggish.
Day before release at Sams Club for $99.
Never had to exchange it, it's still running like a champ in pristine condition thanks to my otterbox commuter case.

Got mine a few weeks ago off ebay for $250 to use on Straight Talk.
Actually thinking about buying an AT&T sim card, will figure that out when I move to prescott, az in a couple months.
rooted a week after I got it (had to do my research as this is my first android phone)
When... July 14
Where... Radio shack
Why... Like the bigger screen and design
How much.... 49$+ tax
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
When: Feb 19(my birthday present to myself)
Where:ATT.
Why: after years with the iPhone it got stale.
How much: Sold iPhone 4 for 440, bought it out of contract for 400. So paid -$40 lol

Need help trasnferring to Verizon!!

Ok so I am on Tmobile right now and just hate the signal in some areas while all my verizon friends have 4g. I have decided to cancel my contract and switch but do not know which phones and plans would be good. Right now I pay 200 for 4 smartphones with 1000 minutes unlimited text, and 2 phones with 2gb and 2 phones with 200mb of data. What do you guys suggest as far as plans, and phones. I also get a 10% discount through my job. i was thinking of the HTC rezound as i currently have the htc sensation.

It really depends on what you need, pretty sure you're going to be forced to get Shared Data though, which can either be a good or bad thing.
Yeah I prfer tmobile but everywhere I am at I get only 2g speeds. I went to la and san Diego this past weekend and had 4g allnthe time and that was great but I don't live in a huge city like that and Verizon is the only one that had 4g speeds where im at right now. And no way I would switch to iPhone. Only way I would was if they were able to put android on an iPhone lol
