I've seen many threads about what bloatware is safe to delete... what about Mobile IM? I haven't seen anything or heard anything about it. I don't use any IMing things anymore... Is it terrible if I erase it?
I've deleted it no problems here, I used titanium backup
Or you can freeze. It and it wont open up but, have to buy the full version up to you

I moved HtcMIM to sdcard and have not seen any issues
Sent from my ADR6400L
uninstalled it immediately with titanium, had zero issues after doing so.
No problems here after deleteing it.
deleted and ok here too..

I've backed up a few times with My Backup Pro and flashed ROMs, restoring data via the same program. It seems, looking at it now, that I have somehow managed to duplicate my contacts multiple times. I now have a huge number of contacts, many of them identical and I keep getting link suggestions for all of them.
Any ideas how I can clean this mess up? I've searched and found a few related threads in other forums, but none of them were quite this problem and none of them seemed to have any solutions.
It seems I'm also having a similar problem with apps. It looks like my apps that were moved to the SD card originally are still there, but not being seen by the system. My Backup Pro restored all my apps to the phone, and those are the ones it's using. If I move all those apps to the SD card, now I think I'll have two versions of those apps.
Is there any way to run something that can check my phone for these kinds of duplicates and consolidate things a little? I'm getting worried that I'll end up filling my phone up with useless repeats of things until it's just a pile of bloated crap...
I had a similar problem with my google contacts duplicating themselves for some reason. If duplicates are google you can go to google.com/contacts to edit them. There is a "Find Duplicates" button on the right.
I actually just found this as well. I tried it and resynced my google account on the phone and it doesn't seem to have removed them. Is there something I have to do to force the phone to get rid of the duplicates as well?
Not the right place for it, but figured since I have a thread going already I might as well ask here. I'm trying to Fix Permissions in ROM Manager, as I figure those might be pretty messed up after everything as well. But, even though ROM Manager has Root Access, it tells me an error occurred while "trying to run privileged commands." I have the paid version, I'm not sure why this is happening. Thoughts?
EDIT: Didn't want to keep bumping this thing, but I found the app Contact Remover to be a big lifesaver in a few ways. Specifically, I had 75 blank contacts that were just sitting there for some reason. This app allowed me to select multiples and delete them easily, in a way the People app wouldn't! https://market.android.com/details?id=com.octabode.dcfd

This is actually something I've been wondering about myself.
Most of my apps are on my SD, and I'm preparing to flash a new Rom, for the first time ever (aside from the rooting process, that is).
Seems I recall something similar occurring post-root, with apps I had on prior.
I'm thinking I should move them back on to the phone, do a new backup, then flash the new Rom, restore, and then move them back to the SD.
Inspire 4G ¦ XDA Premium
Ok, so there has been a LOT of people complaining that they are having issues updating certain apps. This seem to be happening mostly on Android 4.3 or 4.4. I too started having this issue so did a search for a fix, I found probably hundreds of threads across all the XDA forums without really finding any solutions. One of them points to a trick with a function of Lucky Patcher. That used to work but it seems the latest updates removed that feature. In most cases, clearing the data or removing updates does not seem to fix this issue either. Most threads will eventually end up saying to do a factory reset, not so. So I figured out why that is happening and thought that I would post it here for everyone to finally fix that annoying problem.
It seems like this is happening because Android is creating two data folders for that app and then when you try to update it, it tries to create another folder and the system wont let it. Therefor it is giving an out of space error. Not really an expert or proven reason but that is what it seems like to me, maybe somebody else can clarify, here is what will fix the error though.
Use a file explorer (I use Solid Explorer) and navigate to the root folder
Do a search for a small portion of the app name that you cant update. You will see several folders come up. They are most likely in /data/app-lib and are called appname-1 and appname-2. Some apps may have it by the developers name instead so make sure that it is the app that you are having issues with first.(example - tunein radios folder is called radiotime)
Delete both folders (notice - it would probably also delete the apps data too)
Go back to the play store and magically update!
Let me know if anyone else finds this useful as I have not seen this mentioned anywhere.
Folks
I really need some help here.
I backed up my data using Helium, and cannot restore it at all. At this point I am primarily interested in whatsapp because I have a whole lot of messages there. I backed up my data to the internal SD card, copied the carbon folder, wiped my phone and put the carbon folder back. I have tried reading other threads of doing the PC download and copying my data over among other things, nothing works. I really need to get the data back, just for one app. Even tried opening the .ab file based on this: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ta-from-a-full-backup-made-through-adb-backup still no go. Tried to restore it from here, still no go. Please help!
What I really dont understand about Helium is if it does not support deleting and recopying the folder back on the phone, why even give an internal SD card option!! Apparently the paid version works great with dropbox et al. Itis just so damn frustrating to see an app that claims it works on internal SD, but the use case doesnt seem that useful unless all you want to do is restore the data without any kind of wipe. A warning would have been nice, clearly stating it atleast once considering the developer has put it on his wiki.
Thanks, sorry about the frustrated rant.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question.
Just wanted to say, titanium backup is known as the best for a reason. After you hopefully settle your issue....try it.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you either, but I had a very similar experience with that app about a year ago. It was the paid version and Dropbox/Google Drive restores were no more useful than what i had copied locally. Now I just use Titanium and command line adb.

So here's my dilemma. I noticed apps I've uninstalled are leaving are leaving behind files. I noticed them by looking in titanium backup and seeing a huge list of the apps I've uninstalled and are no longer present on my phone shown below.
I found the location of these files in data/user/0/
When I delete these files/folders they all disappear on TB. But after a few days they all show back up. I doubt they take up much if any space, but it creates a huge list in TB. Wiping does nothing. They always come back. Any ideas? Thanks
PS. I did not have this problem on previous phones.

Thankfully I don't have this problem anymore. Thanks for the suggestion
Hi,
I was wondering if there was some way of preventing Microsoft and Google apps reinstalling themselves after I delete them? I've just rooted my phone and am new to the world of Android's furry innards but am a long term Linux user.
Sorry if this is a duplicate post, I've searched Google and XDA to no avail.
ps. does anyone know offhand why fdisk doesn't do anything? It's installed in BusyBox.
Thanks :silly:
I don't those apps are being reinstalled. They are probably not even deleted in the first place. Some apps are protected. I mention this because Titanium Backup has a "Chuck Norris" mode that specifically deals with that scenario.
I had a similar problem where Titanium Backup wasn't able to uninstall system apps. The workaround was to delete the apk from /system using a root capable file manager.
This was a root problem though. The root method I used at that time wasn't entirely compatible with Titanium Backup. So that may be another reason why your apps keep showing up.
It is because of adware you've been infected with. Download an antivirus and throughly scan and remove the viruses. Remove recently installed apps that you find suspicious.
I moved and disabled them at the same time using Apps2sd and they stayed dead.
