no gsm here

Um what hahah I'm in a no 4GLTE area either

Dude. Chill.
As you have said.... the radio is complex in the fact that LTE is basically a GSM technology running alongside of the CDMA radio.

I'm chilled trust me. I just want to stay informed. I can't sit here 24/7 looking for updates and information

Nexus S 4G forum?

When is there going to be a NS4G forum?
i don't think we need one
it's the same phone
only the radio is different

He's right it would actually be better to keep the community tighter

That's like making a NS I9023 forum. The nexus s forums needs as many people as possible.

IMO this forum should be merged with Nexus 1 forum
and call it Nexus
then we can put back every developer into the same place, and encourages more dev & support to release ROMs that are cross platform (hardware) compatible

Not a bad idea.

They are not the same device.
Obviously a Nexus S ROM is not going to work on a Nexus S 4G.
Really needs to be its own forum. Or at least subforum.
When I get my Nexus S 4G I don't want to have to weed through a bunch of GSM ROMs and kernels I can't use before I find something I can flash on my phone.

according to what was mentioned in other topics about the 4G version it is still a GSM radio, just 4G instead of 3G
it's not a CDMA radio if that's what you had in mind

I thought it was a CDMA radio? I know the AT&T one is the same but the Sprint version has to be totally different or no?

The Nexus S 4G is a CDMA enabled device available on Sprint. The 4G is powered by WIMAX. To my knowledge, there is no plans for a 4G Nexus S on GSM (HSPA+). The AT&T Nexus S will be capped at 7.2 DL speed same as the TMO variation.
I think they should just have the nexus s and nexus s 4g in the same thread. They both are the same just different radios like the G2 and Desire Z are. The only problem I can see from this is that on some Roms the wimax might not work like on the Og Evo..

there should be one forum for nexus devices, and a sub forum in each, like "Nexus One.... Nexus S...Nexus S (CDMA)"
1+

Don't want to bring this back if there is no reason, but with the release coming next week I would love to see a new forum for the Nexus S 4G.
Agreed... need seprate forum.
You all might be right about being the same as ]ntil some poor sap flashes the wronge rom and kernel and bricks there phone.
Also... won't the kernel be diff because of the wimax and rom will have coding for wimax so they are not interchangable. Its not like its an app that you can just flash between all the nexus's. Just because thedy are built on same platform does not make them same.

I'm kind of thinking Google will restrain a ton of modifications to the kernel itself. We will have to see when the devices come out just how different they really are, but as of now, I vote on keeping them together to keep the developer base stronger.

Inspire 4G Vs Inspire

In England this month the HTC inspire is coming out, is there any differences between this and the 4G? Is it just the 4G that is gone? Will i be able to use all things on the developers forum without worrying that i will break the device? Thanks in advance guys!

Well *laughs* AT&T doesn't send 4G (HSPA+) through the Inspire 4G or the Atrix 4G. The only thing that you would need to watch out for is that most of the ROMs use AT&T radios so you would need to find a dev that will make radios for your carrier or you could just flash a radio that would work with your carrier and the ROM. That is how it works between the Bell Atrix and the AT&T Atrix.
Why would they release the inspire there? Dont they have the desire HD already? Its the same phone

I thought that because of the looks but the HD has a 1ghz single core vs 1.2 dual aswell as Bluetooth 3.0 vs 2.1 and has gingerbread with sense 3. I'd rather wait a few weeks and get the inspire. I would probably get the desire HD if there is problems with inspire and the inspire 4g roms.

Ummmm flashing a ROM in recovery won't change the radio. I've changed ROMs quite a few times and not once have I received a different radio and I'm NOT using the stock radio.
You sure the device will be called Inspire? From the specs you name and the release (dual core, in a few weeks) I could bet it's the Sensation / Pyramid pending how HTC / your carrier will name it on your side of the pond

Inspire 4g is just a desire HD without a front facing cam. You described the HTC sensation. Unless the euro name for the sensation is the inspire, in which case inspire 4g is different.

2.3 for Incredible?

Why is Incredible 2 getting official 2.3 update before TB? Rooting tonight so don't really care, but just sayin

The Thunderbolt has more issues to deal with since it is 4g, has two radios, etc. We are all patiently waiting, in the meantime, try DasBAMF 3.0.

updating the 2 dinc2's in front of me now.
Agreed that the thunderbolt should get some priority considering it is a flagship device, but I just rooted and installed Gingerth3ory v5.0 yesterday. Running great so far with no issues I have found.

Radio's and regions

Flashing radio and having a great signal does it mainly depend on the region your end? Ive flashed recommended radios on roms and still the signal and battery life was not really that great. So is there a radio that runs better in the southern states with great signal?

well you will hear it depends, each has their own experience, so try and find the one that works best for you.
But I too live in the southern states, and I have had great results with the latest radio, and after reading a lot of comments, a lot of people agree that the latest ota radio is prob all you will need.

Q? Why does thunder bolts miui have 4g?

Was on another forum right now n I saw a post saying miui ics. So I go n check and they have 4g working for the HTC thunderbolt on a miui rom.
To my understanding you can't get 4g because its a China based rom ....can anybody explain or care to elaborate on this?????

I don't know 100%, but I'm sure it's because of different technology of 4G.(TB has LTE and NS4G has WiMax)
I kind of thought that too

On a quick Google I found that they are rolling out LTE there so that's probably the reason why there's LTE support.
Okok hmph thank God we'll have lte next year on Sprint
