Here we go with yet another unlock solution.
This one applies to almost (if not all) devices which are radio S-off, it’s fairly easy to use and doesn’t wipe data/settings nor have that ugly side effect (when using diag files) in which you lose conectivity to mobile network.
Supported devices so far:
HTC Sensation (pyramid)
HTC Evo 3D (shooter)
HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru)
HTC myTouch Slide 4G
Click to collapse
(by the use of revolutionary)
and:
Sprint EVO 4G
Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
Click to collapse
(by the use of unrevoked 3 – not tested)
These are the required steps you have to take:
1. S-off your phone by using Revolutionary (if you haven’t already done that).
2. Fill in the form with the required data. This will generate an unique Config.dat file for your device. Please enter a valid email address, as you’ll be sent there the link to download the file.
This step you'll have to take here
3. Put the file on the root of your sdcard and reboot your phone into HBOOT (adb reboot oem-42). Once you’re there, navigate to Simlock and press Power. The phone will load the file and remove the simlock. Some text will appear on the screen and at a certain point you’ll be asked to press Vol-Up to restart the phone.
4. Just do it, and you’ll be done!
PLEASE NOTE!:
This solution is heavily linked to the device it's being applied to by the use of IMEI, which can be considered a breach in security.

if you just need a SIM unlock, call T-Mobile and they will give you an unlock code. there is no need to fuss around with complex steps.

Not for certain circumstances.. T-Mobile will only give it you you if you meet some criteria.. i.e. you're account has been active for 6 months.. I don't know what the actual criteria are.. that was just an example...
not to mention that you have to wait over 24hours to get the email with the unlock code.. this method was a lot faster than a half hour phone call with a t-mobile rep.
I was a customer for about 6 days and was given the code over the phone.

Just unlocked my friend's MT4GS and it works great with her prepaid running on AT&T's network! This method works great.
Link in my sig has another way using terminal emulator. Ill add this to the compendium

Silly question but, this method will not work on a mytouch 3g slide right? I mean can revolutionary sim unlock a mt3g?

Rev is used to gain s off that's all. Which allows unsigned flashing
As for the unlock methods you may want to test this out my sig has this method and one using terminal emulator method no idea if they will work.

I know this thread is WAAAAY old, but wanted to let people know this still works.
I went to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
And followed the instructions to achieve S-OFF on a stock ROM. Then followed the instructions from the post.
For returning to stock, I just had to google the filename to find a working mirror, as those provided in the articles don't seem to be working. Thanks OP!
my touch 4g Slide NO CALLS with S-off sim unlocked METROpCS
So its 2014.. I know I should get a better phone.. Good news its I got my my touch 4g slide bootloader unlocked and S-off. Also did the sim unlock on the site that emails you back the file and unlocks the sim.. BUT here is my problem
when I put my metro sim in the phone.. no matter which rom I load (which I can now load rom recovery from sd) the phone wont work..
When I go into the settings metropcs and att show up but when I try and select it, it tells me not allowed right now, or sim card doesn't allow that connection. So I cannot get it to work. Is there a way they are locking sim cards to their phones?
I would have thought getting S-off and running the simlock file I'd be good to go.. Anyone PLZ help I am desparate to figure out what is wrong here.
Picture Of S-off UNLOCKED bootloader NO SVC
Here is a picture of the phone.. Likewise no SVC with metro sim.. I don't have a tmobile card to test with but I think either the sim lock didn't work, or metropcs is somehow locking the sim to IMEI
Anyone with ideas here plz help. If it is IMEI to sim is there a way to unlock sim or change iMEI? I know its illegal to change an ESN but imei..
Also if its blacklisted would it be blacklisted for metro too?

So I thought of a couple things. With a little research, one got shot down right off the bat:
http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/carrier.php?c=11
http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mytouch_4g_slide-4018.php
Some carriers use weird frequency bands that the phone wouldn't support. MetroPCS uses 1700 or 1900MHz (depending where you are), which the phone totally covers. So not that.
Related to that though, is the APN settings. If you have more than one (my Rogers setup has 4), it may be stuck on an APN that just isn't working for you. So Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Finally (just thought of it), you may want to test your MetroPCS SIM card on a different (smart)phone. I had recent problems with my SIM (I guess it was swapped out too many times, besides being 6-7 years old), although it worked fine on a feature phone. And if you can get your hands on a different SIM (T-Mobile or otherwise), and encounter the same problem, it could very well be a (hard-to-resolve) problem with the phone. If it is blacklisted, it would be blacklisted nationally if not internationally, and there is an IMEI database to check it against:
http://www.imei.info/
Hope this helps.
Check your imei for blacklist status on the tmo website. MetroPCS is now wholly owned by TMo, it shouldn't need to be unlocked. AT&T and Tmo share blacklist data as well. If your phone is sketchy you are out of luck.
If the SIM is old you might try a new one and see if that helps.

ok So my cousin has a metro. Tried her sim, same results. So I said hmmm. Stuck her metro sim in my metrophone and vice versa. Same result.. So I I am thinking witgh 4g unlimited they are locking the sims. Called and wa told they marry the sim to the imeI. LOOKS like the days of swapping sims to different phones are over. Anyone know a way around this PLZ let me know. ALSO tethering would be cool but i'll google that.. comes as an FYI

I was looking into this, and this forum thread came up:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...-married-to-ESN-of-one-phone-only-that-sucks!
Looks like you can transfer phones by letting MetroPCS know of the new IMEI, but you cannot register two (or more) IMEI's for the same SIM. So depends on how you want to use your Doubleshot. I'd give them a call (or better yet, go into their store), maybe the old IMEI will still work (the thread was a bit iffy on this result) with the new (Doubleshot) one entered.
Thanks

Wow! so that's a bummer. I really like the doubleshots keyboard but I think the exhibit from them is better. Although I tried several firmwares on it and Netflix will no longer work with custom roms (thank DRM for that) I did get hella mods to this one, but would love to have both, I was thinking the sim was somehow locked. I have a sim reader any software to check? copy clone??? new to GSM, but know lots about CDMA.. I wish it were easy to just clone IMEI like ESNS
Did you have to unlock the phone to do that?
I called AT&T and they said that they don't have the unlock code since they don't even sell the device, but that it works on sims outside the US. She seemed to imply that it won't work on tmobile but that if I go outside the US, and just put a sim in, it will work without me having to unlock the phone in anyway.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks

Most customer service representatives are pure idiots .... Nexus S is a Google phone , so it's factory unlocked to any SIM card you use with it(you may or may not get 3G on other networks depending on the other network 3G frequencies , and if the forgein network has 3G on 900/1900MHz it will have 3G on this Nexus S)..
Hope this helps..
Well I went to tmobile and the guy put in a sim into the phone and the phone got no reception nor did it seem to recognize the sim at all.
So it seems that it isn't unlocked.
I tried putting in this code: *#7465625#
Its supposed to tell you if the phone is unlocked or not, but nothing happens, it just says: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
I don't need it to work on tmobile, but I do need it to work on foreign simcards. And I saw on other forums that for some people it worked on tmobile and others it didn't so there doesn't seem to be any clear answers.

you have another issue here , check your phone
Thanks for the response.
What do you mean by other issue and how should I be checking my phone?
In any case, I put in a simcard that my brother gave me which I believe is from Mozambique on a carrier Vodacom. It asked for the code of the sim when I put the phone is as always, and so I got in putting in 0000.
It then showed no connection to anything whatsoever, also as always.
Keep in mind I did have wifi on.
Then all of a sudden it asked me to update my phone and install something. So I just said yes and it updated and rebooted.
All of a sudden I have bars here and there and it recognizes that tmobile and AT&T are in the area. I also saw I think at the top of the notification bar when I pull down the notifications tab, it said Vodacom. Of course I get no reception whatsoever but that is expected, this sim was a gophone sim in Mozambique.
Does this mean that its unlocked if it is recognizing another sim, even though no confirmation of reception? I plan to try again with tmobile now and perhaps make sure I have wifi connection while doing so and leave it in for longer.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any thoughts.
what ROM you're on now?stock or costum one ? you also might consider a FULL phone wipe.because this might be caused by a difference between at&t apn or other Sim data and the other .check for that
I'm on stock 2.3 that the phone came with. Haven't messed with it at all.
So I assume you saying that if I want to switch to another sim, I should do full phone wipe then? so that the at&t apn doesn't confuse it?
IF it doesn't work with tmobile again, I will try taht, and I will also try to learn what an apn is.
Thanks for the help.
Might work or might not !!! backup all your data and apps first then use the shotgun method lol
But what I am sure of is that Nexus S phones are always unlocked and SIM free..
Is there a way to use the phone without a SIM card? I don't have LTE in my area, and I keep getting the "no SIM Error" so was thinking that the SIM was useless anyways.
On the stock ROM every time I get the SIM error, or if I remove the SIM card itself, I get no data on the phone at all. When I try to turn on Mobile Data it prompts me to insert the SIM.
On other CUSTOM or JB ROMs, I don't get the SIM error prompt but I simply get no data.
On older Sprint phones, I know you can go into the DEBUG menu to see that EVDO/3G was actually being authenticated, the handshake was negotiated, then connection type/speed/tower/hand-off status, etc. Is there such an option with Verizon phones? I'm wondering if Data is completely shut off without the SIM, or if the data connection is actually established on the network but simply blocked from being used?
PS - per recommendation I have tried using the PHONE INFO app to switch the option to NV only, but am still getting no data. Voice/Text work perfectly.

ASFAIK, the SIM does 3g and 4g. WHY? because 3g on the gs3 is ehrdp and that also requires a handshake between 3g and lte. I believe it is like using 3g tech but with the pipeline size of lte... or thats as far as I've read into it.

Thanks for the info, xicewallx. I was afraid of that, however I've read of people flashing both Sprint and Verizon variants of the SGS3 to Boost, Straight Talk (CDMA), Verizon Pre-Paid which all I assume do not use LTE/SIM. I presume this means that the SGS3 can certainly use 3G without the need of the SIM card. I'm looking for a way to default to this on the SGS3 for us poor folk who do not have the luxury of LTE yet and have to deal with the SIM error until Verizon/Samsung fixes it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I was able to get to a debug screen using the IOTHiddenMenu option (through Any Cut) but it simply stated that EVDO was in "sleep state." I wasn't able to figure out how to get it to start a connection yet.

So get a new phone? That one is obviously faulty. Go get a free replacement. You have to live with it for 2 years. I wouldn't want a faulty device for a week let alone 2 years.

Are you in a poor signal area? Only time I've received the "No Sim" error was at my parents where the signal is crap. As for using it without the sim card, doubt that's possible since the sim is used for authentication if I'm not mistaken.
hello,
if i understand correctly, the sim card in the S3 is basically the same as all the previous world phones, meaning its just RUIM card. The MEID and IMEI are on the phone, the card it comes with is just basically a storage device in simple terms. can someone who has access to another verizon active S3 sim try putting the card into their phone and checking the IMEI that the phone reports? does swapping the cards change the IMEI in other words. I do not think it will, but interested to know for sure.
i just started playing with one of these, but i feel realy confident you can get non 4G services to work without a sim in it.
cheers,

You have it just about backwords. The sim is the real identifier on vzw 4g devices. You can take a working authorized sim and use it to activate another 4g Verizon phone and it will activate under the phone number associated with the sim.

There is still an ESN /MEID that the network uses to identify the phone for the CDMA side of the network. The process is all handled by the LTE SIM on LTE phones, though.
OP: You have a broken phone. The no-SIM error is not something that goes away. Take it to a store and get a new SIM and/or order a replacement.

im gonna have to dig in some more i am still not convinced the card is not a ruim card. like the other sprint and verizon world fones the imea is in the fone im pretty sure, until you instroduce another networks actual gsm card. i still the card it comes with is a simple ruim that holds the login info and other data, etc, well you know what ruim is.
does anyone have a service manual or white papers on this one yet? i would love to read through them.
thanks again bro

I'm still looking for an answer to this if anyone has any suggestions. Any way to get 3G without a SIM card?
Did you ever get a new phone from Verizon? It seems like an issue with your phone, not the network.
I have been trying something similar along the way as I have been able to get rock solid data by switching to EvDo only using the Phone Info app.
I gave determined I am connecting to a US Cellular tower when I have solid data.
But while in EvDo only I cannot send or receive calls or texts.
I am looking for a way to enable calls and text while in EvDo only mode.
Not trying to highjack just thought this is somewhat related.

New phone and new SIM from Verizon seems to have made the problem less apparent, but it still happens, especially when driving through areas where reception is a bit spotty. It's really become an issue as I rely on getting emails for business, especially while traveling, and I don't get notifications of new emails if I have no data service which I don't become aware of until I actually look at the phone. Missed a couple of important emails/meeting invites because of this already...

I flashed a VZW GS3 to Sprint. 3G data is working fine w/o a SIM card. If I put a non activated VZW card, data doesn't work obviously.
The trick in getting this to work is to use QPST to configure Profile 0 and Profile 1. When flashing to Sprint or Boost, you must also load a Sprint PRL into the device using QPST.

A little off subject but I how did you get it on sprint I'm trying to get mine on verizon prepaid and have it set to nv only. I must be missing somethin because my esn/meid all look right I get data but yet no calls
So I was messing around in the ##3282# settings, and I clicked "Edit Mode". I thought, "Well, let's guess." I inputted six zero's, and to my surprise, it was the correct MSL code. I don't know how this is but now I can edit the stuffs. Also, this phone has Band 25 LTE 0_0 I didn't know that. Can any of you Cricket users verify that this is only me?
MSL Reader (see the play store) gives it to you if you are properly rooted. Its how I retrieved mine. But I know six zeros won't work on K2_CL lol.

I dont know all the specs behind it cause there was tons and tons of info and I kinda spiderwebbed out of control reading it. But the jist I got is this PRL's APN's and all that get more credit then what they are deserved. Yes to have a proper one is beneficial but its more about the codec's the radio signal of the phone and towers your connecting to and the system files in your phone itself that will allow you to do what you need to. I am still piecing things together but I am working on a finalized cricket fix to allow the use of LTE, the use of gsm or cdma and the use of European roms. It has become quit the undertaking but before you jump in and start changing files that were initially fine I would properly educate your self on the pros and cons changing the prl.
As of yet I am pretty sure Tmobile wont flash the phone nor will our phone work on the Tmobile network

Lol I was just going through threads and it's also helpful info for others as well
I have an HTC one SV from Cricket, I like the phone but am not "In love" with it. My problem is this- I just bought the phone then changed providers due to poor service at my address. Since my phone has a SIM card I thought I could switch to AT&T but the phone never accepted the new SIM. AT&T couldn't find out why, Cricket told me their was no unlock code, HTC said it wouldn't work until they ran the date of manufacture and MEID# then all changed.HTC told me to get the msl and I can change the network settings so I I can use GSM instead of CDMA. Any warnings, advice or instructions?? Out of severe stubborn motives, if at all possible I want this HTC on GSM just to prove that I can lol.
Hello,
I bought my HTC Sensation about a year ago on Ebay. The seller claimed the phone was purchased outright and paid off. I checked the imei and it showed clean. When I got it, I popped my Airfire sim card into it and it worked fine. A month ago, I switched to Cricket as Airfire was going out of business. Cricket made me enter my imei. It said it was bad. I called T-Mobile and they said the seller defaulted on payments. They refused to help in any way. They told me to buy the phone direct from them next time. I told them I had proof I was buying it in good faith. They didn't care and apparently have no problem punishing the victim.
Anyways, when I got my Cricket sim and popped it in, my phone said I was roaming. It has said I was roaming for a full month now. I can send and receive calls, but my data is stuck at EDGE and some of the programs don't work since the phone thinks its roaming. I need to have "data roaming" enabled for data to work. Cricket ran some tests and eventually said I needed to do a factory reset.
So, I switched from the Android Revolution rom to the ViperS 5.2.1 rom. I did a full dalvik and cache wipe and reformatted everything but the sd card. I installed the new rom and kernal. Same thing. Phone still says I am roaming. Odd thing is, when I go to manually select carrier, my options are Cricket (current carrier), Airfire (previous carrier) and TMobile (stock carrier). Also, when I am using data, it has an "E" above the data. E is what Airfire used. Is there somehow somewhere a place that the phone is storing info through wipes?
I am s-off, rooted and debranded. I sim unlocked the phone myself. I am so stuck and think that only one of the geniuses on XDA are my only hope. I have went mental spending hours and hours on this. Some XDA peeps are smarted than HTC and Cricket combined, so please help me out here.
Thanks,
Grant

Hi grant, this is a very odd situation your in. With my sensation when I leave the UK and connect to another EU "partner network" is the only time my phone would jump into roaming mode. Is it possible that cricket is not directly supported in your area? Maybe they rent their local connection from another carrier and thats why your getting connected as roaming? Have you tried any other sim cards to see if they come up as roaming?

Hi heavy_metal_man
I am quite sure that At&t is Cricket's parent company so all of the towers should be At&t's networks. Also, I have checked it when in other cities and I get the same message, though I haven't traveled more than 30 miles away.
The previous sim with AirFire worked fine. I also popped out the sim for Cricket and put it in my mom's phone to see if it was the sim. Her's worked fine. She got the automatic Cricket update settings right away and was not roaming. Mine never got the Cricket pop-up so I had to manually enter all of the data info. Yes, odd indeed and I am lost.

OK, the info your adding manually, is that the same info as is registered when the card is in your mums phone? Same APN etc?

Hi heavy_metal_man. Yup. Same info. Only difference is that the info all loads automatically on hers. I do get automated texts from Cricket when I put the sim in my phone as did she, but I had to get the APN info from Cricket the first time because it didn't auto load. I am still wondering if it is a sim issue, but I expected my mom's phone to be roaming when I put the sim in hers. I was shocked when it wasn't. She just has a free stock phone from Airfire btw. Nothing fancy and nothing done to it.

Hmm. Are those 3 carriers the only ones available to you? I think the imei may be key here, if cricket know its a T-Mobile phone they may register that you are roaming. I think your previous carrier (airfire) was a Virtual mobile network, much like giffgaff in the UK ( which runs on the o2 network.) As such they may not have inforced the same imei policy's that cricket does. But this is just a hunch as I am on UK networks and we do things much differently. If you could ask about any friends and colleges that have different carrier simcards from our previous 3 you could gauge what carriers your phone is compatible with.
Worst case scenario you could maybe buy another broken htc sensation and perform a motherboard swap. This would solve your imei issue, assuming that it was the primary issue. But check the simcards first and report back

Hmm... There are only 3 carriers available. Should there be more? It's not tied to the sim? Everyone I know either still has Airfire and plans on switching to Cricket or has cdma so I have been out of luck with trying another sim. The only other thing I thought about was 4ext recovery. No matter what I flash; roms, kernals, firmware or radios, the recovery always survives of course. So, if the previous carriers are surviving the flashes, perhaps there is a place on the phone like the recovery where they are surviving.

Its unlikely to be to do with the recovery, no reason for it to keep anything like that. It's most likely the phones imei at this point, though im unsure as to why this was not an issue for airfire.
Do you know what firmware version you have? Have you flashed 3.33 by yourself?

Yup, I flashed 3.33 universal after doing a super Cid. Well, maybe its time to just get a new phone, although I would really like to figure out this problem first. I am not the kind of person who can just drop things, lol.

I know how you feel. Maybe its because they cricket know the sensation 4g is a T-Mobile device and force you into roaming mode by default. I think its possible to overwrite the devices mid and cid, flash a sensation XE rom and effectively have a sensation XE. But such things can be quite dangerous and i couldn't say for definite if it would work to fix your issue :/ (not recommending anyone tries this without proper research and understanding :/)
Can you get access to another cricket sim without a contract? Just for testing?

I believe I have already done that. When I go into info about my phone, it says Sensation XE. It also registers as Sensation XE in the Google play store. I was thinking about telling Cricket to send me a new sim. Otherwise, I have no access to one at this time.

I think that it would be your best bet, although your device is probably showing up on the play store as an XE because of its build.prop from your custom rom, not any advanced MID changes. although you can check by using the command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
this will show your your mid, cid and your imei among other things.

I've worked it out! Its a frequency issue. Cricket apparently only support cdma frequency's, while the sensation only uses gsm frequency's. So in order to connect your phone is bunnying onto a local gsm service, which is then redirecting you to cricket. Hence the roaming! If you want off the data roaming you will need to either swap to a different phone carrier or buy a cdma phone

Hi heavy_metal_man,
Cricket did use CDMA for most of the time, but they have switched to GSM. They send a sim now and are trying to switch all of their old customers to GSM. What I am having trouble figuring out is what frequencies they use. Perhaps my phone is not quite compatible. I am having trouble with that as well. GSM arena, Phonescoop and the other major sites kind of have different data as far as my phone goes. My phone is called "HTC Sensation 4G" as far as I know. Yet, they list no 4g capability or frequencies. Of course, I believe that would only affect data and I still should not show as roaming.
I have been unable to figure out fastboot since switching to the viper rom. It doesn't use usb mass storage anymore. It uses the new system in which the whole phone is recognized as a storage device by the computer. Forgot what they called it. I wish they hadn't changed it, and apparently Windows 7 should recognize it by default, but it does not. I am sure if I get enough time to put into it I will figure out how to use the fastboot commands again.
I am ready to give up and just get a new phone pretty soon. Would be nice if Cricket's customer service wasn't so worthless. It could still be the IMEI or something on their end that I can do nothing about but they have failed to provide any solution.

Sorry for my delayed reply, I noticed that cricket swapped out to gsm and I discovered that their gsm tech is actually supplied at&t as they bought them out.
So I looked at their coverage map for the area airfire operated and I noticed that they had 2 or 3 area that were only providing 3g support via a partner, so I assume that would put you into roaming. It might be worth a look at their map and confirm if you reside on one of these black areas ?
