I have no idea what to do. I have followed all the experts advice regarding battery life and it has improved, but it is not even close to my HD2. I was really hoping one of the genius devs would have reworked the battery drivers by now. I say that because I have seen them work miracles before.
I use my phone for business and getting emails in a timely matter is also an issue.
So should I hang in and hope Gingerbread or Ice cream fixes the issues or are there deeper problems with this phone?
I am still strongly considering the Sensation. I am not concerned with the locked boot loader because I am a member of XDA and they always figure those things out. Kinda miss the larger screen and build quality of HTC.
Anyone else on the fence about this phone?
I dont have any issues at all with my G2X, but I just went on HTCs website, and looked up the Sensation... Wow.
As long as I can remember I've wanted a phone with sense, now that I have a great phone, the allure of getting one with sense and having everything integrated the way the website shows is AWESOME!
I'm torn, because on one hand, there will be alot of great development for this phone, but on the other hand, I think, that I would much rather keep one of my phones stock, and let updates come naturally...
With this phone I was rooted and installed a custom rom as soon as one was available.
I think I might just return my G2X till the sensation comes out... I still have about 8 hours to make a decision though.
I've about had it with the issues that I am having.. Having returned one G2x for another, both are having the same problems. I have until Friday night to return - I may resort to borrowing an old flip phone until the Sensation comes out.
Random freezes - random reboots - random shutdowns - serious battery life inconsistencies...
What's worse - the same problems are happening with CyanogenMod too.

Ha, well I want to be sure before my 14 days is up, I guess I won't know. I hope my g2x gets better battery life soon
returning another g2x. i have 30 days so when the sensation comes out i will even exchange.
I ordered mine on the 20th so the day the phone was out in the store. I had to order mine online since i am a T-Mobile RSA. I have alittle screen bleed but not much. I will be doing exchanges until i get one with no bleed. Other wise i have had no problems at all. No reboots, lock ups, data problems, nothing the phone is rock solid. I love the phone. Every person that has come into my store with problems i have told them that T-Mobile is going to exchange this for you under the lifetime warranty if you have it for the life of you having the phone. So you have nothing to worry about. The phone is a great phone to have. Do the exchanges until you get a working one. I know i would do it until i did. Even if it meant doing it 100 times. Also my understanding is that sensation is going to be locked down which is the reason why Cyan did not want to get one but got the G2X. So if thats the case have fun trying to get a mods on the phone.

HTC's have a history of poor battery life. Sure you can mod, but then your hoping a dev can pull **** out of a hat for you...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I have until Friday to return mine. Battery life was the main reason I got the g2x over the sensation, reasoning that htc usually has terrible battery life. However with all the current battery troubles, I'm not so sure I made the right choice. The most confusing thing is the reviews I read (cnet, bgr, engadget) all said the battery life was above average. Did they get different units or something? If the battery life isn't any better on the g2x, and if sense 3.0 isn't so terrible, other things like the qhd screen, more ram, and htc quality make the sensation pretttty appealing. Thoughts?
I really don't have problems with battery life at all. It lasts longer then my HTC Nexus One. I'm able to go from 8am-midnight under my normal usage of several calls, push emails, exchange, twitter widget, facebook widget, Weather widget, Kingdoms live and Word Feud, plus surfing and tweaking through out the day.
I really like the phone. My only gripe is the LCD backlight compared to the AMOLED, but I knew that going in.
HTC is locking their bootloaders like everyone else. Most phones with encrypted/signed bootloaders are still, to this day, locked down and unflashable.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 would be my second choice since the bootloader is unlocked and should be another one that is flashable. But we have absolutely no idea when it is coming out. I'm hearing September. It lacks the Tegra 2... which will burn as more and more Tegra 2 only games/apps start pouring in.
I say stay with the G2x. Aside from the backlight bleed, every other issue is just software. The Official Gingerbread rom will be out very soon and it should hopefully take care of more of our problems.
Aside from the Official build, we already have CM7 hot in the mix and I believe they will have the phone running great within a week or two.
If you are really worried about it, couldn't you just do a return... then pick up another one that has another 14 days?
I returned mine. I only purchased to give the network a try and see if it works for me as I am currently a Verizon customer... so I kinda had to return it regardless.
I'm going to wait it out a bit. I have a Fascinate, and coming from a Galaxy S series phone, this phone was *almost* a lateral switch. There are many advantages this phone has over the original Galaxy S series, but I felt like I needed more. Maybe it was the same 4" screen size?
Overall, it's a nice phone. Build quality is excellent and it functions very well. The reboot issues didn't bother me too much, but the fact that the issues were there really made me a bit uncomfortable. Coming from a Samsung phone that had wacky software, the last thing I wanted was another phone sharing some of the qualities I did not like - bad code.
I think LG is in a position to fix their mistakes and make this phone a contender for long term support. They just have to follow it with their 2.3 update properly... I.E. no bugs!!!

I agree... I am keeping mine personally... I think this next update to 2.3 will have a nice new batch of drivers, specifically the tegra2 drivers since nvidia are driver freaks so I expect a performance boost via drivers as well as some fixes from LG such as the battery...
employees cant return phones, but i can warranty exchange
which i just did. at first i thought i could deal with the bleeding in the top left corner, but now on CM7 with the black statusbar, it is extremely noticeable even with the dimmest brightness setting. so i caved in and am getting a replacement sent to me.
now i gotta unroot and go back to stock. and theres no guarantee that the replacement will be any better, but it cant get much worse than the bleed on mine. looking at all the pics i seem to have one of the worst on here.
I'm leaning towards keeping it. I purchased two of them and my wife's has been just fine. I had the random reboots and exchanged mine. The new one has virtully no bleed and the reboots are gone. For anyone suffering from random reboots/shutdowns and lock ups, please exchange it. I thought I was just being paranoid, but my first one really had a problem. The new one is running like a champ.
The Sensation is tempting, but having to deal with a locked phone does not sound very fun at all. I know they will hack the loader eventually, but I really dislike having to deal with ads.
Six months from now there will be something cooler than the Sensation or G2x.
I think a lot of people are giving a little too much credit to LG for the Gingerbread update being the "magic wand" that will fix everything. Sure, it could but the cure all, BUT, if they hosed things up in Froyo, who's to say they didn't do the same (OR WORSE!) in Gingerbread?
Just saying!
It's a coin toss at the moment as to whether it's going to fix the problem or stay the same...
Guys, it's really simple. I'm going to the tmobile store the day the Sensation is released, and if it gives me that Nexus One feel in hand, I'm throwing the g2x on Ebay.
That's really all there is to it. Just keep your G2X protected until that point. By that time you could have it rooted with a stable CM7 release, upping the price a bit more. If the Sensation is $499 off contract as rumored, you should be able to get close to that.

An HTC T-Mobile rep confirmed the pricing and the 6/8 launch date on the Sensation forum. They've already scheduled a big pre-launch party on 6/6.
Currently I own an atrix with ATT, but im planning on moving to tmobile and buying the g2x next wednesday(may 18). My questions are.... will I notice that lack of ram compared to the atrix? How is the screen resolution compared? Tmobile has better coverage where im at, and the hspa+ coveraged is amazing here. ATTs is basically non existant. I just want to make sure that I don't regret it. Which im pretty sure I won't considering the pros. Real hspa+ connection. Bigger, well built phone. IPS display richer colors. Unlocked bootloader. (I like the fact that I can put gingerbread on that phone day one) and it still will have the tegra 2 chip in it, which I fell in love with. The battery may suffer a bit, 1950 mah- 1500mah , because im on my phone all day doing just about everything, so I hope the charge lasts a day. Ok so basically im.just looking for some feedback on your experiences with the g2x and if you think it's a good idea to switch. Much appreciated.

Short answer? Yes.
Long-winded answer? Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Better in every way Except the smaller battery
I didn't mean to push thanks ha ha I was trying to push quote.
Have you seen the Device DB here at XDA? The link is at the top of every page. There is an excellent compare feature there. You can see the phones specs side by side.
I'm thinking the phones compare well. Same processor.
I had the Atrix and switched over to T-Mobile for the G2X and I am extremely happy I did! I still have my Atrix and I play around with it at home on wifi from time to time and I don't miss it at all. I don't even notice that this phone has less ram and the G2X feels way more polished and smooth. You will be a lot happier once you switch!

I also came from att to Tmo. I liked having the ability to load custom roms on the g2x and the lower price of an equivalent plan on tmo ($90 vs $145).
I like the Atrix better out of the box, but the g2x can be made better with tweaks and roms.
overall the money saved made it worth it, ymmv
Lol you guys were quick with answers, thanks alot. I will definitely be on you guys team come wednesday. I can't wait.

Is the smaller battery really that noticable?
one more question, and this is probably the most important. Is the g2x as easy to mod as the atrix?or is it harder?

Do you mean in terms of having custom ROMs? The G2x is much easier to mod. The Atrix bootloader is locked, signed and encrypted. Third party development on the G2x is light years ahead of development for the Atrix.
FWIW, I had an Atrix for almost a month, and I agree with the sentiments above. The Atrix is a fine piece of hardware, but the G2x is a much better platform. 512Mb of RAM is plenty for this generation of phones. The Atrix has more mostly for webtop. But I typically had around 512Mb of RAM or more free on the Atrix.
It's ddr2 ram
I had the atrix at for about two weeks while having my G2x and it gave me time to compare... I would really say in every day use the G2x seems to be much quicker and smoother compared to the atrix. The G2x has been MUCHHH easier to tweek and mod... I like the look of the atrix better and I miss being able to brag about my fingerprint reader but that was the only perks I found with the Atrix. I strongly dislike MotoBlur and I prefer a highly customizable vanilla android device. Out the box my Atrix was a bit laggy.
You will only know if you like it and if it will be a downgrade once you get it but I do suggest looking at comparison videos

Lol I can't stand motoblur, and i only used the fingerprint scaner for about a week, then It it got annoying. But so far in the comments, no one has compared battery life. How does the g2x stack up? I can get a full 24 hours out of my atrix as is, but I'm a little hesitant of the smaller battery on the g2x. I mean im going to get the phone anyway, just want to make sure its not going to die after 5-6 hours of moderate to heavy use.

What was the reason rooting improved battery life? Removed crapware running in the background, alternative rom, kernel, or something else?
I've rooted my G2x, and froze some of the junk, but haven't messed with the ROM yet. I've been a big CM fan since it came out on the Evo, and I'm currently waiting for A2DP to work before switching.
Really, the main reasons I rooted my Evo were HDMI mirroring, tethering, and AOSP, so the G2x has been amazing to me.

Using SetCPU I underclocked when screen is off and it really helped a WHOLE lot ... then using timerific I set different profile times for my device so that Wifii and volumes aren't left on when I'm sleeping (helping save battery) timerific also dims the phone if needed during certain times as well... rooting also allows kernal tweeks that'll help your device...
Rooting has DEFINITELY helped my device... I know some people who are using juicedefender and other apps but thus far those have provided me enough life for my average use
Also people do not take into account that even though the atrix has a qHD display, it uses a pentile grid meaning the resolution suffers a little. When I looked at the atrix, I could definitely see the screen door effect that I use to gett on my epic 4g. The g2x screen seems sharper and also has better colors due to being ans IPS panel
I am interested in potentially owning a Sidekick 4G and I have been doing research on it.
I hear that it freezes all the time, text don't come through, and it is just a pain.....and then i hear people have no problems with it at all.
Is it really that bad? I don't necessarily care that it has Android 2.2 and it has weak specs. I actually like the skin and it seems like a fun device.
It is free right now(Along with the G2X...which i was considering getting but i've heard even worse stuff about that one)
OR i was considering getting it on MOnthly 4g for 50 bucks a month for everything Unlimited
But is this phone truly that bad?
As a teen who has it since may. It is not as bad as It may be daily I have my phone fully charged at 100 around 9 pm est time and by 7 to 8 it has around 20% so it's pretty good. How ever since it a hard device to sell as it is marketed towards teens and I seen Alto of teens raging about it memory is an issue but the task anger very handy.
Weekly I have my friends g2x and tbh it's battery last is worse than the sk4g. Same 1500 mah and also his phone freezes atlot and has to get battery pulled constantly to cool his battery which drops the battery level all the time

If you run a kj2 based rom its not really unstable. I haven't seen any issues with not receiving sms either. Its not as responsive as something like a sgs2 though.
I am 17 so the teen thing doesn't bother me since I am one
The main things i have seen on the youtube video and the t-mobile site is the fact that
At first the phone seems great(and then shortly after owning problems pop up).
the sms not sending or being received, the freezing and having to pull batteries
In fact most of the t-mobile reviews for the phone trash it.
I am not expecting Dual core experience or anything of the sort like that but do you regret your purchase or are you content enough with this phone for another year?

No, it really isnt, aslong as you go to KJ2 its pretty nice, over all i like it especially the style its set up with and how its built around texting. Personally i like it alot and its hard to win me over since i have a high standards when it comes to phones, if my starts where the same for girls as they where with phones i'd be single for the rest of my life. I think its just un-popular because of all the other phones out there that are mass advertised

I've never had any problems with my phone not receiving messages, that's something I wouldn't be able to put up with. I have dealt with quite a few freezes, causing me to have to pull the battery. The biggest annoyance is when the screen doesn't respond to your touch. Sometimes it will click things when I'm not touching the screen and sometimes the screen will shake back and forth. If I knew these things happened, I probably wouldn't have bought the phone. I would rather fork out a few extra bones for a phone that is a little less buggy.
You can always get the phone from T-Mobile, and they allow you to have it for so long, and if you don't like it, you can bring it back and get something different.

I love the design of the sidekick even though i'm using 2 different phones now on an off (x10 mini pro/captivate) I feel like the software is what really is screwing this poor phone over for me. As with the captivate which also ran 2.2 it had almost all the same issues i had with the sidekick but when it was updated to 2.3 almost every issue i had with being laggy slow or just plain crashing pretty much vanished.
I love the design but 2.2 is gay and old.
From my experience it was that bad. The phone was my wife's and I can't ever remember a day where she didn't have to pull the battery at least twice. It had the tendency for the screen to become unresponsive at the most annoying times, generally when you were trying to answer the phone or after you typed a txt message. It lagged awful, particularly going back to the home screen after backing out of an app. The other oddity was that sometimes the screen would just start acting like it was possessed by ghosts with things randomly happening.
I have owned a lot of androids and this was the absolute worst. The KJ2 update made it a little better, maybe a battery pull every other day instead of the two+ a day before. I finally started complaining loudly to T-Mo and they send me a MyTouch4G Slide which (knocks on wood) is okay. I know some people really like their SK4G's, but in my experience Samsung screwed this up something awful, didn't release the source code so others could fix it and get it off the crappy froyo build. With no disrespect intended to anyone, I wouldn't recommend this to people I disliked and it put me off samsung as a brand.

Most T-Mobile reviews are crap anyways, the only true drawback on the phone is the launcher it comes with, it is pretty much useless. I find that most stock launchers are slow and buggy and not to mention laggy. Touchwiz being the worst. If you slap an aftermarker launcher the phone is pretty much 40-50% more effective. I have gotten the best result with launcher pro, and go launcher.
I love the hardware, hate the software. The stock ROM always froze on me and some of the ones devs made froze too. I finally settled down with glorious overdose. It's been working fine as a phone but I was really used to the completely streamlined feel of CyanogenMod with my Cliq.
Software bashing aside, I think this is the best phone out. The full qwerty keyboard (numbers included) makes it so easy to correspond with friends and co-workers and the sliding action is pretty cool too. All it's missing is a flash.
If they ever get cyanogenmod or a heavily modded rom, the sk4g will definitely be worth buying.
its not the rom, its not the launcher, its not the hardware, its not touchwiz. its wifi, gmail, the stock browser, or maybe one or two other system apps. after i deleted gmail and the browser, everything is fine. i dont use wifi so thats not a problem.

i dont rely on the forums or the reviews to tell me what to get, i try them out in the store and try them out a few times actually before i decide to buy.
im with verizon, so i go to the at&t store to try out new phones a month or so before i buy them, a few times sometimes
its just nice to see that technobuffalo didnt have any problems with the battery given that this is one of the things i cant necessarily test myself in the stores
Thanks a great review overall. I am pressed by the quality. Looking forward to more such reviews.
Mine had lag and I had to make some adjustments to get rid of it. I'm not to worried about it because it was the same with the S3 to a lesser extent and it was soon fixed even with the over the air firmware, let alone a custom ROM. When you read a comment or two about lag its one thing, read that most people have it and you can figure you are probably going to see it. In fact in video reviews where they show the reviewer quickly swiping through pages its often visible even on those reviews with final firmware. It did so on the SGS4 at my local AT&T store and also on the handset at Costco I just saw yesterday. Expect lag at the opening gun until you reduce your bloat level and make a few other changes to get it under control.
I just got mine from the eBay $249 deal and man is thing awesome! I have a Nexus 6, Fire Phone, and the OG Moto G that I''m comparing and the Flex 2 wins hands down. I don't know if I should stick with the AT$T software and just root or try the PR rom. If I stick with stock/root can't I technically remove all of the AT$T bloat? What would be the main differences? The one user who benchmarked on the PR rom had an almost 10,000 point improvement and others are saying the battery improved a lot as well. I would think the benchmark and battery would improve without the bloat.

I have 11x att firmware rooted, benchmarked at 57788... granted I phone was cool and fully charged. I had gotten a 46000 the day before while phone was half dead and warm. I was able to disable 90% of att software without root, after root, freeze remaining att crap with TiBu.
I also agree, really awesome phone for $250, happy I got the deal. Not completely in love with the screen, I have some green tinge at the bottom, disapointing, but something I can live with. Hoping I can edit color profile to make less noticeable.

Thanks for the response. I ended up putting the PR 5.1.1 on mine. It cleaned it up a lot but now I'm not getting any data even with going into the settings. I will make a new post on that. It makes me wonder if I can now go from PR back to AT&T and just disable what you did.
