**Alrite fellow members, so I tried samysam05's method on page3, worked flawlessly! follow his codes in ur terminal, and you will get your storage back. (I went from 37MB straight to 70MB) Round of applause for samysam05!**
So far I've known at least another person with the same issue, I wanna know if there's more.
This is what happened. I had JFv1.43Holiday, before flashing my phone with JF's cupcake.
Then I flashed the 1.5 radio from HTC, then JFv1.5 without doing a wipe. I used to have 51MB left (I do have apps2sd with data on phone), and after flashing only 30MB.
So I thought this might be caused by the fact I didn't wipe or I had data on my phone instead of SD card. I did a wipe, re-installed JFv1.5, supposedly I should have around 70MB left like others, but I only have 52MB, when I didn't install anything at all.
If anyone know why this is happening, please help! Greatly appreciated!
I've noticed the same thing.
same here...i am running the App to SD and i have been having only 32mb of "available space"...i dont know wats been going on with my available space ever since i left JFRC33 Mod to does roms nd nos 1.5.
Looks like im not the only one. hope someone can help us fix this.
happend to me also.
im down to like 28mb with only 10-15 apps installed =(
wonder whats wrong hmmm.
Do a wipe then follow the steps for apps to sd. Hopefully you have a partitioned card. I had about 30mb after wipe. Then followed Haykuro's app to sd tutorial and 63mb free now.

So even if I already have app2sd i should still do it again with haykuro's method? (i do hv a partitioned card).
I also have this problem and *do not* and have never had apps on my SD card. I was on JF 1.42/RC33, did radio update, then JF 1.5. Didn't do a wipe before 1.5, but after root didn't work, did a wipe, then re-applied 1.5. No apps installed (straight from boot) and only 51mb free.

Yeah, i think we are on the same boat here, n more n more ppl r realizing this... hope we can get some attention on solving this, so far nth had worked.
Try this... Install the files as mentioned..

While that option is obviously available to everybody, some people may not want to go that route forever reason. The problem some are experiencing in this thread is obviously an issue of some sort. Personally, I've tried myself to get apps on the SD card, but not being very technical I was unable to get the SD card partitioned correctly. May try again as it appears SDSPLIT (which I attmpted to use) appears to have been updated.

Before i try this, I'm just somewhat curious: Even if i already got apps2sd, i should still do it again using this method? Sorry, Im not very technical...
Alrite guys, this is what i found out (ignore me if you already know).
I flashed Dude's 1.5, and official 1.5 by HTC, it appears that on any of those roms i still only get 51 or 52MB of space regardless. So it's not a problem with JF's rom. I didn't try Haykuro's, but I'm not gonna expect miracles.
I also tried flashing with a different SD card, which also didn't help. im suspecting that it's something weird with the 1.5 version itself, maybe all of us did something different to cause the loss is storage space.
I haven't tried alternative APPS2SD methods yet, just because it seems pretty painful... I will if i can't figure this out.
Maybe the 20 MB was used for the rom and system files itself... the cupcake-ish builds are a lot heaver than jfrc33 was. The same happens to me on jf1.5, H & G builds (Dudes and Hayruko) whether a2sd or not. Maybe a lot of dead files are left or something but probably just the extra weight such as vk, video rec., newer core, opengl, extra animations, ect. May be I am wrong and there is a fix... Dudes G build (heavily modded to be similar to H builds goodies) seems to give me the most free space for extra apps. Maybe that is a good alternative for some until the ota RC build is ripped and rooted by JF...

I'm thinking that's what it is. dalvik-cache is like 20mb on JF 1.5 (at least it was on the way my phone did it before I started the process I noted below). Just for ****s and giggles I deleted the directory and rebooted (had no idea what would happen) and it put it all back (same size).
I'm in the process of going back to RC29, will root the phone, will upgrade to JF 1.42 RC33 then to JF 1.5 from there and see what it shows.
It is the dalvik, when I checked right after install it was like 21meg after install and grew to 26meg fast.
I started from scratch:
Installed RC29 (reported 71mb free) Rooted the phone.
Wiped, then upgraded to JF 1.42 RC33 (reported 71mb free, dalvik-cache was like 1.2mb)
Updated radio.
Wiped, then upgraded to JF 1.5 (52mb free).
So, as sino8r's speculated above, either 1) JF 1.5 and other varients (Dude/Haykuro/Official HTC) are just larger, in which case, Google sucks for that, and it will just force those to move their apps to the SD card or 2) I'm a total ****ing idiot (quite possible)

Well, right now I agree with ur (1), since i basically tried every build, same result all the way...
It must be the dalvik cache... have both apps and dalvik on my sd and have 61 free, regular caches are still in system... best I see with the new builds with both apps and dalvik on sd is 65 ish...
Got like 70 max in rc33... so id guess the firmware is slightly bigger but it also prob has something to do with the dalvik cuz I'm only down 5mb not 20mb
It IS the dalvik! When i was on jf 1.43 i had like 70ish free, when i upgraded i had 63 free! And to make sure i wouldnt run into trouble i went in the terminal and erased the stuff in system/sd to make sure i wouldnt have leftovers in there, then i did all the steps of app2sd EXCEPT dalvik, then i ended up with 64 mb free.
After a reboot, and then doing the last step with dalvik it was up at a swapping 71mb free!
Thats also why im now gonna use mybackup, followed with nandroids every 2nd month aprox, and put those 2 files on my laptop and a cd-rw, and then i will update both locations acordingly, and use dalvik on the sd.. I can afford to buy a new sd when its lifetime cycles of usages is over And then have a fast responding phone with a gazillion of apps on !!
All experts,
Please help me for my (P3600i - IPL-Trin100, SPL-3.00.708.9, CPU-Samsung 500Mhz, 256MB flash ROM and 64MB RAM) that I flashed successfully with hardSPL 3.10 Oplira.
However after completed the [P3600i] Mary v3.7 - SuperLite from WM6.0 to WM6.1 upgraded, I found that there is only 50MB flash ROM left on my rom, It missed about 200MB flash ROM and 64MB RAM remained.
So I tried to flash back WM6.0 but it is same as 50MB flash ROM left and 64MB RAM.
Can anyone help me how to recover 200MB flash ROM?
I have seen lots forum regarding this case for a couple day but found nothing.
Best regards
You lost the "free space" of ROM. Am I correct? If so, I think you are fine.
yes
do you know how to recover it ?
You can't "recover" free space of ROM Memory and RAM. It always vary depending on whichever ROM you flashed. Most very likely, you flashed a ROM that has a lot of pre-installed programs. These programs will take up a lot of space in your internal memory.
I suggest flashing to a different ROM that takes little space.
thank you for your advise
Hi there, I am having memory issues with adobe flash.
I had flash 10.1 installed, and about 78mb free memory.,
when 10.2 came out I did the install from the market (silly me did not do a nandroid backup first)
After installing 10.2 my memory went down by about 12 mb. to 62 - Which was strange as I thought that the new version of flash would be roughly the same size and overwrite the old files.
Then I realised flash 10.2 and sense has an issue that crashes sense/browser when you exit, so I un-installed flash 10.2
I did not get my 12mb ram back.
I thought perhaps it would clean up it's self if I put 10.1 back on there (I did a nandroid backup this time) however that took me down to about 50mb. (which is where it stayed after installing 10.1..)
I did a nand restore to get back to 62mb, however I would LOVE to know where this memory is going. I cant find any of the files that are inside the flash apk on my phone - and yes, I am looking in the phone memory not the EXT or SD user partition
Any ideas?
I have also cleaned the cache using cache cleaner, deleted the davic cache etc... rebooted a number of times...
Where the hell does Flash put 12mb of crap to eat up my memory? and why does the memoryt go down 12mb every time you install it?
I was thinking that it perhaps makes a 'backup' of previously installed files, which would account for a 12mb drop in memory every install - but cant find where it puts these...
Warm regards in advance for an answer!
Marty
(I am running a HTC desire, with the insert coin Desire HD rom, but from what I have read around different forums, this is not a device/rom specific issue)
hi,
I'm using atrix 2 4 last 6 months, mi fone hav asian retail ics ota version updated frm motorola
recently I hav purchased rom toolbox pro. mi fone s rooted. in rom toolbox under -> app manager -> all appa -> system storage it shows 432 used and 45mb free. wy s it so. actually it hav 3.5gb somthing free internal storage free. I'm using 32gb trancend memory cars.
Because the system/app folder have a specific space. It doesn't matter the free or used space of the other folders.
Also, be careful with using ROM toolbox. It has been known to turn phones into bricks quickly. It kinda quirky with the A2.

That's 4 gb of internal memory u r talking about. The space given for system apps is only 500mb. That's y u have only 45mb left.!

Yes this is true.
How the storage is laid out on the AT&T phone is as such:
/system (this is where all of the files for any ROM go, /system/app, is where all the apps that come with a ROM are located), is 500MB and in stock ROMs that are odexed you only have 45-50MB left, and no you can not do anything about this. You can run an opensource ROM like CM10 or MM, and get a lot of that /system space back, but I am still not sure why this matters since /system is locked and really NOT usable. You can also deodex your own stock ROM, or use one that is already deodexed to gain some space as well, but again this is really not usable for a normal user, who is not creating their own ROMs or performing "hacks"
/data is 3.89GB and this is the "internal" 4GB that motorola advertises... now again this is really not all that usable, all you can do is install apps from the play store here, you can not use this space to store photos, or even music or videos.
So in short having 4GB in this phone is a bunch of B.S. marketing, since you will never be able to use it for anything useful.
Oh and the TW/HK versions of firmware with ICS have changed how much of the 4GB storage is actually usable.
P.S. these comments are not aimed at any one person in general, just more for everyone's information, so lifehacker7 I was really not replying to you, just commenting that what you posted was 100% correct, and I just wanted to elaborate on that.
Oh and I second what was said by Fall of Enosis about Rom toolbox. ROM toolbox does not play nice with this phone and really neither does TI BU, so be warned as both of these can soft brick you in a hurry.
As u said, since I'm using CM10, I have almost 100mb space left in /system. I barely had 10mb on stock Rom.
Hey there,
I finally got the courage to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P5110).
All went well. Put Odin3-v1.85_3 on it and shakatu_recovery-clockwork-unofficial-6.0.3.1-p5110.
After rooting i installed (as decribed on the webpage) a custom firwmare: cm-10.1-20130409-NIGHTLY-p5110
Everything works smooth and easy and fast (!), way faster than the stock firmware on it.
BUT: what happened to my internal memory? I only have a few apps installed (should be around 3 Gb), the same apps when i had stock firmware, but when i tried to install a game, it surprised my i had hardly any internal memory left!!!
When i go into settings and go to storage, the device calculates how much free space i got left. It shows me i have around 600 Mb left. Graphically it first shows it's almost full (grey bar), but later after indexing it shows the correct amount of free space. But the text underneath it remains around 600 Mb.
When i go into a file explorer and give it superuser rights, i can go to upper levels of the internal storage and there are loads of folders there. It seems it has something to do with the rooting or the stock firmware (backup or something)??
How can i clear more internal memory? Should I do some sort of wipe again in Clockwork Recovery??
Thanks for reply!
BTW: swapping internal and microsd card memory is not an option for me.
Below i wanted to put photos what my device shows, but i'm not allowed to do so since i'm a newbie....

i had the same problem!
but you will have to be on the stock rom, that is the original rom for your tab. Connect your tab on mass storage mode. Go to my computer, and format your tab from there. remember to make a backup of every thing. U will then have a full 12 gb free storage.
plz press thanks
Hi,
You probably still have a lot of the junk from the stock rom on the internal sd along with the data from your new rom. If you have the rom file you flashed on your external sd card. You can boot into recovery and format /sdcard to nuke almost everything. You'll have to stay in recovery after this is done and reflash the CM rom and install the apps you want from scratch to get the maximum amount of free space.

So, if my custom rom (install)file is on my external SD card, i can format my (internal)sd card? Afterwards install the custom rom again (from external sd card) and i'm ready to go.
Is that correct?
Thanks, i think it worked. At least i have all my internal memory back!
