[Q] Amazon Barcode scanner kills camera

If I try to use the Amazon app to scan a barcode, it kills the camera and it will no longer work until a reboot. Just the barcode scanner. The take a picture through amazon works.
After amazon kills the camera I tried to open the default camera app and receive an error that it is unable to connect to the camera.
Anyone else have this problem?
why did you get an app from Amazon anyways?
there are TONS of free ones in Android Market
i use this one
ixMAT Barcode Scanner
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ixellence.ixmat.android.community&feature=search_result
it is simply the best
Google Goggles is able to recognize barcode as well.
I have the same problem and would love to see its being fixed.
I use https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android&feature=search_result and its fine. And agreed with AllGamer.
Yeah it happens to me too, it's an issue with Amazon's app.
Also people, he's talking about the AMAZON STORE app NOT the Amazon APPSTORE app.
The Amazon store app lets you SHOP on Amazon. Also lets you scan a barcode and it'll search Amazon for the product.

No one mentioned about the app store buddy. This post was made WAY before the Amazon App Store was officially released.

Read the first reply to the OP. From AllGamer:
"why did you get an app from Amazon anyways?"
"there are TONS of free ones in Android Market"
So yes. someone did mention/thought the OP got an app from Amazon to do barcode scanning, when the OP really meant he's talking about the Amazon app doing it's own barcode scanning.

The Amazon App Store was published officially on the 22nd. His post was made on:
16th March 2011, 01:05 PM
So at that time the Amazon App Store was not published.

And there wasn't a closed beta. AllGamer probably worded it wrong, but he was not referring to the Amazon App Store because it didn't exist at that time and to be honest. Amazon App Store was not hyped about at all, so I seriously doubt it.
Unless, you're right and what you're telling me is that AllGamer can predict the future
And besides, I'm pretty positive AllGamer meant to say it like this:
Why would you try and use the Amazon Bar code scanner to try and get apps? There are a lot on the Android market for free.

I'm aware of that, but again, read allgamer's reply to the OP. Asking him why he got an app from amazon, that android market and a bunch of free apps, and then suggesting another barcode app. All which has nothing to do with the OP's issue which was the Amazon shop app crashing the camera when it's scanning barcodes.
I know. Again I said what I said just in case someone confused the OP (which 1 person did). And yes I use "Barcode Scanner", but if I want to buy something on my phone from Amazon, I use the Amazon app to barcode scan, since it stays within the app and i can buy it from the app (which I have done).... rather than having "Barcode Scanner" go to either the mobile site or full site of amazon in the browser. It's a PIA to buy something on Amazon that way.

Nuff said. You can't post in a old thread referring to a new app when at the time of the OP and the person mentioned it.. that app didn't exist. So how could he refer to the app store before it was officially open?

And again, then you did not understand the OP's issue.
The Amazon app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.amazon.mShop.android&feature=search_result
Lets you shop for items on Amazon such as computers, clothes, dvds, etc..
And it lets you scan a barcode form the Amazon app itself, and show you if Amazon carries that item and if you can buy it from Amazon.
That feature will crash the Camera app of the Nexus S and any other app you run on the Nexus S afterwards will say the Camera is not available and requires a reboot.

It doesn't matter though. You're referring to the app store before it was even released to the public. You could do that with a bar code scanner app as well, it scans for prices and compares them.
You obviously don't get my point. At the time of the post, the Amazon App Store wasn't released.... so how could he be referring to it? or how could the OP refer to it? IT DIDN'T EXIST AT THAT GIVEN TIME AND PLACE! If AllGamer posted that on or after March 22 then it would be another story. But it was posted way before that.
I know its hard to accept the fact that you're wrong. It's alright. People make mistakes on what they're trying to say, it was just a mis clarification on AllGamers' part but I'm pretty certain he wasn't referring to the Amazon App Store because... like I said, it didn't exist at that given place and time.

Again, because AllGamer said "why did you get an app from Amazon anyways?"
Then there's 3 replies after that about other barcode scanning apps, so I wrote my
"Also people, he's talking about the AMAZON STORE app NOT the Amazon APPSTORE app.

JUST IN CASE people confused the OP (which AllGamer obviously did)
Also suggesting other barcode apps to do crazy other searches and hopefully get an Amazon link is not helpful to the OP. If I wanted to buy something on Amazon, I simply run the Amazon app and scan the barcode and see if it's available on Amazon then buy it. Why run some other generic barcode scanner app then getting some generic google search url and hopefully find an Amazon link? Or ShopSavvy that has crap store search listings?.

I told you. He probably misinterpreted it. Just like I'm going to say again, the App Store was not released nor it was heavily hyped or the rumor (if there even was one). So I seriously doubt he was referring to the Amazon App Store.
Bar Code Scanning searches everything from Amazon, PriceGrabber, Walmart, Target.. whatever store. It's not limited to one of them. It searches for the cheapest price available at a verified seller store. So how is this not helpful to the OP? It offers the CHEAPEST price. Who could complain about getting the same thing for a discount?
Holy crap this is like a Laurel and Hardy skit. Incredible.
How hard can this be.
Edit: no, that's not what she said.

At the time of my original post, there was NOT an Amazon App store. just internet rumors.
I was referencing the Amazon STORE app, not the Amazon APP store, which allows you to take a picture of an item or scan a barcode from within the amazon STORE app and check for information on Amazon. Pricing, ratings, etc are available.
My take on the first few replies is that they were questioning why use a barcode scanner to check just one store when there are others that will check multiple stores at once... ie.. google Shopper. While this didn't answer my question it did seem that they understood my reference to the Amazon STORE app.
There was a question posted a few days later about a camera error. Between this post and logcat, I traced the error to a vague mention on how the amazon app calls the barcode scanner as throwing the error. This is a software error, not a hardware error, which I was questioning.
bumping this old thread. its now fixed in the new version of the AMAZON STORE APP released like <1 hour ago

Amazon App Store already has crap on it...

I thought Amazon was going to keep a tight ship to avoid the crap that infests the Google store...
But there's already a "Sexy Video" app.
Will stolen flash apps be far behind?
Disappointing to see this, I was looking forward to a crap free market!

[Q] spot the difference appstores

I've downloaded the amazon appstore and I thought that It would get me a full market with all the apps that I miss out on with the google app store. I found that this is not the case. When looked I found the exact same selection in both stores. Does the Amazon Appstore pull from the same sources as the google one? Do I have to do a market fix of some kind to get ALL the apps?
No, amazon has its own android appstore. Google charges $25 for developer access and Amazon charges $75 and first year free. Google also charges 30% of the sales. Anyways, but I like the Amazon app store more and more because it has quality apps and "test drive" features for some apps. Also, I got a free "paid" app per day. the checkout experience from Amazon is better..
I am not sure do we ever get 100% apps from the market hack. Some people modified the build.prop to use an android phone fingerprint.. and they might get more apps and claim to get the full market. Do a search in the general section..

OfficeSuite Pro Free today

Amazon is offering OfficeSuite Pro for free today. It retails in the app store for 14.99 and its free today. Amazon may not update as fast as the google app store, but for free, this is worth picking up. Its a pretty serviceable office document reader/editor.
Amazon asks me to set up 1 click payment method when I try to download it. What is up with that. It never did that before.

Click on Add App. Done.
Other methods took me for a loop asking for credit card info and 1-click shopping setup.

[Q] Amazon Appstore Hassles

Hello, I have a question involving amazon appstore apps. So if i have my own account, yet my dad bought this app for $20 dollars, there's no way i could use my dad's apk on my phone without signing out of my own account in amazon appstore, right? it always says "you do not own this app"

correct, there is no way to bypass this. either stick with yours or use your dads "$20" app.
