Any custom roms available for this phone yet? Haven't found any at this point and I am looking at getting the phone soon. Don't want it running Moto's garbage.
I have the phone and it's not bad in that it has the Palm Pre form factor, and it's cheap, but the software is sluggish. No one tested this thing at Motorola. It's usable if you get into the "flow", ie, slow yourself down to it's pace, but it needs a ROM.
I have 2 of them, one for myself and one for my gf.
Locked Bootloader, no roms or modding support whatsoever, stuck on 2.1 with no official Android upgrades in sight, subpar wired headset volume, a slow as molasses CPU, and it constantly lags.
It's not a bad phone for the money, but for a little more dough you can get a much more powerful and customizable handset. I bought mine about a month ago, and have been shopping for an upgrade since the day I got it home.
I think what more sucks is that Android 2.1 is buggy and a lot of performance improvements were made since 2.2.
I don't think that the phone itself is that bad. Just we need a new ROM!
Motorola Fire XT316
Anyone knows about the Fire XT316? It seems to be very similar to the Spice XT300 and will have either Android 2.2 or 2.3. I hope Motorola will offer to upgrade our Spice to 2.3

Hi Guys,
I've been reading the posts in the forum and I realized that, if anybody can help me with this dilemma, it's YOU guys !
I want to buy a new phone and I want it to be an Android Smartphone... Everything OK so far... I "window shopped" a bit and considering the limited options that are available in my country, I finally decided that the best options, price/performance wise, are the Motorola Milestone A853 and the Motorola Defy.
Now I've been reading about them for the past month, about the hardware, what are the advantages and disadvantages of both phones, I saw numerous reviews for both phones and read everything there is to read about the processors and GPU's in both phones but now I want to read a personal opinion on both phones, why should I choose one over the other and why...
I really hope that you guys can help me with this !
Now I imagine that some of you guys will say that none of them are that great because of the processor, or the Android version or the fact that none of them might be getting the Gingerbread update, so, If possible, I would appreciate if you could leave all of that aside and express your opinion related to these 2 phone as they are right now, with no updates or hacks and if possible, share YOUR experience with them as well.
Of course, you will be asking me what I want to use the phone for, well... I would like to... Ummm... use it as a ... phone, browse the web and be able play some 3D games (e.g.: Polarbit Games, Gameloft HD games, Quake etc.) without much lag (preferably with NO lag at all ).
Please HELP !!!
Defy is new. Milestone is pretty old.
Defy has 512mb ram
Milestone has 256mb ramb
Defy's processor is 200mhz faster .. and made by Texas Instruments.
Should be more economical on battery life as well.
Moreover, the Defy comes with a bigger battery. 1540 vs 1400.
Defy should be less laggy and more likely to get more android updates. Dont know about the community support though. Would advise you to go check in the Milestone android development forum and see how active those guys are. The support for that phone basically depends on them now.
Hello
I know, this topic is not so new but i wouldn't create the new one.
Can someone write more about those two phones? In march I gone get a new phone from the operator and I have to choose between Milestone and Defy. I know, Defy's newer and has a little bit better hardware but what about the future development? Here in Poland Defy's not so popular as the Milestone. BTW Defy's a little bit cheaper than Milestone in my operator What else? Milestone's getting Froyo in a few "days". Defy's still on eclair, and who knows how about the future...
The most important what I need is:
- smooth UI
- smooth games
- smooth web browsing
- big screen and good resolution (both the same)
- official updates and unofficial development
Please help!
hi i am stuck with the same dilemma i dont no which phone to get.
I bought milestone yesterday.U won't regret...it's a lot better than defy ,even with all the differences between defy and milestone, milestone is way cooler at looks than defy as a phone,as updates and gaming(because of the keyboard)
I think Milestone is better based on community support, its easy to find custom ROMs for what you need..
Hi, I was wondering if anyone know of any upcoming highend android devices with a builtin xenon flash? I am so sick of the lousy pictures you get with a LED flash, and the only xenon device I could find, is Motorola XT720, but compared to my current Nexus One, that seems like a downgrade.
Yeah I am also looking for this android beast
Moto Milestone is almost good for me except it has only measly 256mb ram. We gotta wait for update of this model @[email protected]
So after the past week or so i have done some casual research. Looking thru various sites getting some not so reliable feedback i figured i would just ask at the top.... And i dont know why i didnt in the first place..
I am looking to get a Android Tablet when taxes come. Something not to expensive but not a cheap piece of junk either.
I am looking for something reliable, fast good graphics, a decent camera if possible certianly gps, wifi, bluetooth. I would like to dock it in my car for its Gps potential, and for movies and certianly its music capabilities (like power amp) and pandora last fm ect. I figured i would tether it to my Droid 2, and no i wont be watching movies on it thats more for my wife, friends ect.
I would defenatly want it to have the android market on it, wether i have to put it on there myself or if it was stock. I want to be able to play games like angry bird or whatever. Not just simple low end games but the potentintal to play anything i might want to..
And lastley i would like something that defenatly has some community backbone to it. Something that has been rooted, that people know and i can get reliable support on. I dont want to be running 1.6 on it it has to be like 2.0 or 2.2 and i can upgrade it. Something that runs really smoothly and has at least one decent rom.
I see some of these people who bought cheap tablets off ebay from Hong Kong or whatever and there having to scour the net just to find out what excatly it is called.. I dont really wana do that lol.
If i can find it locally great! If i got to order it off the net then so be it. I just want something that is open, reliale, smooth, fast and has some support behind it...
Sorry if this is the wrong section i looked for a overall tablet form but couldnt find one on XDA and i didnt want to post in every forum. If you have anylinks or even one u are thinking about buying like a link let me know id love to check it out!
Thanks Everyone!
Dude, get a NookColor! $249, supported in ROM Manager, and I'm sure soon to have full ROMs released..
It doesn't have a camera (but your Droid 2 does...) so that might be a deal breaker. It's not a tablet, it's an e-reader, but it's a neat little thing. I can't wait to see the development take off.
Other than that, the Motorola Xoom looks promising, but it's currently unreleased.

I would recommend the nook Color as well except for the fact that it is lacking a GPS. Therefore it does not fit into the car model. I have one for my son and it is a nice device.
The gps is kind of a nessisity for me, i could give up the camera but im stuck with the gps. But the nook or nook color is out for me. I see it as lacking later on because of its processor and it wasent built to be a tablet. I want something that will ride out for a few years if possible. It needs a 1 ghz prosessor and sufficent ram. And i got to have 2.2+ on it. And 7 inch minumum. Thank you for the suggestion thus far though
Consider the Archos 101 or 70.
Pretty sure it has everything.
There is a forum for it here too.
as far as I know no tablet meets your demands ( 1ghz/2.2/lotso ram/etc) probably best shot at the moment is a flytouch II from lightinthebox ...
10", decent rom support coming together, inbuilt gps, 2 cardslots for storage, android 2.1 with kernel 2.6.32.9 once you upgrade/update it to v1568 firmware.
another OEM provider promised 2.2 was going to be out last weekend but havent seen anything filtering out as of yet

Actually, Archos already has 2.2 with 1ghz
http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_101it/specs.html?country=ca&lang=en
The RAM is not listed on that page but it would be easy to find out.
I'm just stepping out.
And there seems to be a GPS solution here http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=37910
Sry... what I meant was I want to run the most uptodate firmware I can so im kosher with 2.1 what im hoping to avoid is where I have seen a lot of them running 1.6. I've been thinking about archos but I just haven't heardb from anyone who ones a archos or a flytouch.. I would defenatly like to hear experiences... thanks again everyone
Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk
Also and i forgot to mention it.. It has to have a Capacitive and Multitouch screen like my Droid X or Droid 2.... Does that FlyTouch have that? cause i cant seem to find any information pertaining to that.
no flytouch2 is not multitouch but otherwise i am more than happy with mine, best €130 ish i've ever spent
I previously had no Android experience and recently bought Xperia X10 Mini Pro as suggested by friends in a haste as an upgrade from my Nokia E63. After purchasing it, I found it out to be more of a downgrade. The phone itself is outdated but that is a different issue.
Web browsing is better, I got GPS and music is a major overhaul. But the inability to do proper multitask and lack of GSM-GPRS Dual Mode means this is not gonna replace my E63. Sadly, as deep as I have searched, Dual mode is not as easily available among Androids and proper multitasking requires huge RAM compared to Nokia. So I need suggestion on a cheap android that can truly replace, suppose a Nokia E71. Does such an Android phone really exist?
ZTE blade maybe the best one for the guy had no Android experience, or a better one, MOTO defy.
I don't think so

ZTE models are sadly not available Here in Kolkata. That model would not have suited me either. But DEFY is a seriously good mobile. Got good RAM, Armv7, PowerVR GPU, long battery life. Price is within my capability. It is also water/scratch/dust resistant. Are u sure that it supports dual mode? The website does not mention.
I didn't understand the issue with camera clearly, If I get the GREEN version does that mean camera will never work for me using CM9? [I am damn sure India gets green. Guess I'll have to sacrifice ICS then]
From this post it seems that Moto Defy supports Dual Transfer Mode. The only concern that remains now is about ICS update and the camera. Can anyone clarify that?
When it comes to pricing, no one can beat Nokia
There are lots of cheap Android phone available in the market, but you have to compensate in the screen resolution, speed etc. I wud recommend you Galaxy S (i9000) if you can afford...cheaper than dat is Galaxy ACE & Galaxy GIO.
Check if HUAWEI is available in your location, they are the cheapest highly loaded Android devices here in Oman.
zte monte carlo nice
Problem is, none of the mobiles you mention has Dual Transfer Mode in official specs, while even the latest Nokia, the Lumina 800 mentions Dual Transfer Mode (MSC 32) clearly in its specs. It is sad how Symbian died due to lack of interest from the part of application developers, but it had the best multitasking among all mobile OSes. In Android, whenever I minimise Opera Mini to do something else, I am always afraid that perhaps opening the next file will unload the browser in background; while in S60, u can have 20 apps running and 20 tabs open in browser in a handset with only 128 MB RAM, if pushed to its limit, the device will reboot but never ninja kill apps in background.
I can provide many links where people complain about lack of DTM in their Androids. Sony Vivaz is a S60 and it supports DTM.
Some said that editing build.prop allows DTM in some HTC phones. I have tried that in X10 Mini Pro and it did not work. Seems the radio antenna itself is cheap.
I recently ran a test in my X10 Mini Pro by starting a file download in it and sending a barrage of SMSes from another phone simultaneously. The download failed, none of those SMSes arrived ever.
So please mention how u know that those devices suggested have DTM. It is necessary.
I think I need to update my question. From this post, it seems that SE does not provide DTM as 3G already supports multiple connections. SE may think that there is no necessity of this technology in this age of 4G but in India 3G is both costly and rare.
I need GSM DTM, not the simultaneous voice and data capability of 3G.
Edit: I have subscribed for 3G. I was shocked to find that good quality 3G is cheaper than US here. It will be activated within 24 hours. Lets see if dual mode works now; else I'll have to get another handset with better radio.
Update: Ok HSDPA allows simultaneous voice and data in this handset. But 3G drops during calls perhaps due to poor signal so I need stock ROM to force WCDMA only.
Hey so I have this spare Acer Liquid MT phone lying around, the phone lags like heck, it's still on android 2.3 something....(all is its very old and havent been charged for awhile). I was wondering if anyone here has any links to rooting and installing a newer version of android onto this phone. I've been using Iphone a lot so I don't know any technical terms for android or in fact much about android. Hope you guys and give me some links and mods that will go well with this phone =] I wanna experience android first before actually buying another android phone! Thx!!
