So all the sudden the ear speaker is barely audible. Doubt there is a way to fix it without taking the phone apart. The phone is about 2 months old. i didn't get a warranty through best buy. Whats BestBuy's standard warranty? Whats the manufacture warranty? how would I go about getting it fixed. Or am I SOL?
Well I'm not sure about the Best Buy warranty but the usual manufacturer's warranty is 1 year. Just give Samsung a call and find out your options.

My earpiece speaker is kinda messed up its not horrible but ya im bein OCD about it anyways ive already returned the nexus s a few times and I really dont wanna go back to best buy so im thinking
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Nexus-S-Earpiece-p/smsng6098615.htm
costs 10 dollars for the earpiece speaker then there is this cell phone repair place drcellular or whatever and they charge 25 dollars to install it doesn't sound bad at all to me I really rather spend the 35 dollars then go back to best buy im thinking of installing it by myself but I dunno about that rather not risk it
If you do that you'll end up with a void warranty.
Terrible idea on such a new phone, take it back.
I think it's a bad idea.
You're going to spend at least $35 to fix a less than 30 day old phone that you think is broken on receipt? Seems like a waste of money to me.
FYI, I've dealt with Global Direct on parts for my i9000; in fact it was for the speaker assembly. They won't sell you just one of those speakers, you'll probably have to buy at least two, plus there'll be shipping charges, so your $35 figure becomes more like $50+.
Has anyone attempted to do a warranty exchange on the phone through samsung? is it hard? Do we have to send the phone in or do they send one us first then we return the defective model? my headphone jack is messing and wont detect headphones.

I haven't personally done one through Samsung, all the ones I have done have been through T-Mobile.. They were quite easy, and I am sure that Samsung would be the same.. You just have to go through there 30 minute checklist of them saying.. Have you tried this, or this, or this.. I usually just tell them that we already went through all of that with the person you spoke to before (even if you didn't speak with someone) and they say.. "Oh, okay" xD
But they usually send you the phone & you send yours back once you get the new one..
Yes Tmobile does replacements for defective phones usually but unfortuantely it is not the case for the nexus s. When I called samsung tech support they said that the warranty only covers repairs of the phone and not exchanges which sucks. I was also told it would take about three weeks to repair and ship to me.
When I called Tmobile they said that they don't service or repair the nexus s since it isnt sold through them and I'd have to talk to either best bbuy or Samsung.
I remember when I bought my nexus one, HTC sent me a replacement first and I sent in my defective phone afterwards.
I ended up just getting my phone repaired at best buy. They actually just replaced it with a refurb or new unit and I received it in three days. This is the blacktie protection btw
I called Samsung in regards to my old Nexus S (that I no longer have) and they said that they'll only repair, which may take 7-10 days.
T-Mobile does replace your phone though. They usually send out the phone first [I believe it's refurb though], and you ship yours back afterwards.
So yesterday, out of the blue, my Captivate stops playing music. There is some kind of loose connection or something that makes the rear speaker have an intermittent connection. This applies not just to music but also to ringtones and notifications. Not good! Thankfully, the headphone jack still seems to be working fine so I'll be streaming ESPN radio tomorrow at work!!
The helpful AT&T rep giggled (I'm not kidding) when she counted the months since I bought the refurb off of AT&T website in October. 5 months and, gee! there's only a 90 day warranty on refurbs. But if you use your insurance, that phone gets a full year warranty!
3 options I see.
1. Fix the phone at a repair shop - is this even a reliable alternative? Never had a phone fixed before. Gonna call tomorrow to see how much it might cost to fix? Any ideas?
2. Use my insurance and pay the $125 for a replacement. And maybe then drop my insurance since I'll have the one-year warranty. I've gotten phones wet before and always dried them out and used them afterward so I'm not worried about that.
3. Try to find another smartphone locally without approaching the $125 insurance deductible. Not likely, I can't find anything decent in my area in the time I've searched so far.
Last alternative is, sniff, go back to my dumb phone and be happy the ringer still works. (I keep all my old phones in case we or anybody else takes their phone for a swim).
Decisions, decisions. What would you do?

Take off the battery cover and press firmly on the speaker. Seems to resolve the issue for most.

Okay so I spilled some juice on this badboy and well it sat in the juice until I got home and realized. I immediately threw it in some rice (3 days) and thankfully it did dry out. The unit was working fine and fully functional except for obvious signs of water damage when the screen is own like splotches under the screen. And there is a clearly visible one (even when screen off) in the lower right corner. Some days later it stopped powering on all together. Here is where you all come in. Has anyone had to have their unit repaired third party? If so please suggest a third party fix. I am within my 30 days of purchase so do you think Best Buy or ASUS will repair/replace the unit? No, I don't have the extended warranty from Best Buy but I could still purchase it. Should I do that and file a claim in a couple months? How about purchasing a third party extended warranty then filing a claim in a couple months? Help me, help me PLEASE!
You can probably get it repaired, but I'm sure it will cost you unless you already have water damage protection. Accidents happen. If BB will let you get a policy now, go for it. But just know that you're basically committing fraud, as you'd have to lie about the date of damage.
seems like you already know what you want to do...you just need people to share the moral burden
getting it fixed by asus is prabobly going to require screen replacement, which is i think 50% of the cost of the device. at least this way, you can sleep at night.
or, just get a HP touchpad and hope the android port is a success.
on a completely absolutely unrelated note...i just want to brag about this, my TF keyboard's response is aboslutely on point right now...no lag, nothing.

Check to see if it's covered by your home contents insurance, some sort of accidental damage clause.

If you can still buy the warranty from Best Buy then buy that, then wait a bit and bring it in. Understand you will likely be without the unit for a long while as they attempt to get it repaired. Bringing it back to Best Buy in this state however would be wrong because you damaged it. The Best Buy plan allows you to damage your device and they will repair it, so while it may be morally questionable to buy the warranty after you do the damage, I would say it is less so than the other options. Understand that Best Buy has the right to refuse to sell you the warranty after the fact if you don't bring the device in first, so it is possible you won't even be able to buy it.

I agree, at least you already have that insurance. Or possibly renter's insurance if you're in that situation.
With home insurance the deducible may be higher than the cost of the device. Unless the device is scheduled, or you have a 'computer' clause that considers it scheduled even though it isn't. If this was a $2000 device then sure it would make sense, but for a $400 device it is unlikely home owners is going to help a lot.
The only reason I would advocate buying the warranty then using it through Best Buy is that if they are willing to sell it to you sight unseen it almost serves them right to get stuck with a repair like this. Have you bought a cell phone from them, they essentially advocate running over you phone when you want to replace it to use the black tie service. They are essentially selling abuse insurance with the understanding that most people won't do it. Which is why the extended warranty through them is so expensive. Most companies make a TON of money on extended warranties, very few of these warranties ever get used.
One thing I would not advocate is any deception on the part of purchasing the plan. If you have to sign anything saying it is in good working order, or you have to tell them it is in good working order then you should stop right there and walk out.
So I have an HTC Surround currently, It's a refurbished model (I had a Focus, screen cracked, insurance gave me the htc) and I received it about 2 months ago. The microphone lately hasn't been picking up my voice over phone calls the past few weeks. So, I want to do a warranty check on it. My question is, because At&t no longer sells the surround, will they give me an alternative option; or have they set aside a number of units for such a case? If I wait will they give me a 2nd gen WP7? Any thoughts? Experiences?
Thanks!
They no longer sell it as new but they still have some for warranty purposes. They just sent me one because I'm having an issue with my Surround losing it's data connection after soft resetting the phone with no way to get it back.
Got it. Thanks!
