So, here's the thought. Clearly they are going to be looking for something. Perhaps the radio is going identify itself, as DREAM.OK or some such?!
Obviously, they aren't looking for people to call in, one by one to re-activate their service.
Another option would be some sort of "now that you have installed the rom, SMS this code to rogers.upgrade.done...
Ideas? I'd hate to see all non-Rogers Dream ROMs blacklisted, because they didn't include "Dream.fixed' in some tag somewhere....
EDIT:
Ah, if anyone is curious, you can find the ROM at http://www.rogers.com/techsupport
eeee
Yea, I'm wondering whats goona happen here. Rogers has a history of ass-hattery, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they shut off data access to all non-rogers roms. They've been fighting to keep custom roms off their phones since day one.
I'm goona call them tomorrow to find out how exactly, they are planning to be disabling data services to non-compliant devices.
P.S. I have successfully called 911, with my G1, with the GPS enabled, running CM 4.0.9, and CM 4.1.11, with radio 3.33, and I've also verified on a friends stock G1, that 911 works fine, so I suspect there is more to the story.
I've created a Facebook group to track updates, and give us some better sticky handling of resolutions: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=265860828421
Radio firmware
The new radio firmware they are pushing is 3.22.26.17.
Kernel version 2.6.27-d5acf552
[email protected] #12
It's a standard 1.5 image without sense UI or any new features.
SPL 1.33.0010 is pushed preventing fastboot writes to the phone.
The final kick in the face is that they patch the exploit used to root the android OS via flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.
If your a dream user and apply this patch, you will not be able to root your phone until flashrec is updated.

I can confirm that.
eYup
Just got off the phone with Rogers LVL 2 and 3 support.
They say that the are discontinuing data services to all G1 phones, until some script runs through, which detects your "update version".
No one in level 2 or 3 knows what exactly this script is "detecting" other than the "update version". They don't know if its looking for android version, radio version, or spl, nor do they know if anroid 1.6, radio 3.33, splwhatever is good enough (even though 911 calls work fine for me).
At any rate, my phone is on a corporate account, so they're taking me a tad more seriously than I'd expect from Rogers. LVL 3 guy is making some calls (after fighting with him for 2 hours), to find out if perhaps our data services won't be disconnected, so long as we're running android 1.6+/radio 3.33+.
Will update when I hear back from them.
Call in, complain. Demand to speak to the "office of the president" (Apparently the guys with some measure of authority?)
*UPDATE*
So I spoke to "the supervisor for the office of the president of Rogers", and he says in a rather scripted tone, "Rogers does not allow any non-rogers provided and supported phones on their network. Connecting a non-rogers phone to the rogers network, is a breach of contract, as outline in the terms and conditions."
So, we went over the terms and conditions, line by painful line, to find the part that says Rogers only allows Rogers branded phones on their network. We were unfortunately, unable to find said stipulation.
Overall, they've said they don't care if discontinuing your data services means the loss of your business.
Now, thus far no one actually knows what Rogers is looking for, to determine how they're going to know if you've updated or not, but what they DID say, is that once they've determined that you've updated, data services will be restored to your account. This suggests that the data services will STAY activated, even if you install another ROM.
I'll test this tomorrow/monday, by putting my sim into a g1 thats been updated with Rogers ROM, wait till data services come up, and then drop my sim back into my phone. We'll see.
Any questions or concerns regarding this update, should probably be directed to Trever Rodrigez (team manager for the office of the president of Rogers) - 416-935-7543
OK,
Good news:
Cyanogen -> Rogers patch 1.5 and back (and added bonus for linux/mac users no need to run a windows application to do it)
Bad news: in writing this and redoing the process I did something silly and bricked my phone: (so continue with caution)
Here is a hacked version of the dream rom.nbh used to update to Rogers new version. (Basically just flagged it not to touch the SPL)
News Update (Feb 1):
bcrook and beav_35 have extracted the radio image from the nbh; see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5509214&postcount=345
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5510235&postcount=350
Thus if you wish to only get the radio you may wish to check the above out. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with using the instructions on this thread for trying/developing for/hacking the new rogers rom w/o loosing the SPL as many people have successfully used.
(I have read reports of people flashing the radio resulting in a working phone; and have checked the data appears to be extracted correctly; thus I'm fairly confident the radio.img is correct; However I have not flashed it myself via the img so you continue at your own risk)
Flash ROGERS rom (sans SPL) to your phone
!*! Please be sure to proceed with caution; also note while flashing to the rogers rom ought to be fairly safe flashing radios [including the one in this rom and the ota] always have a potential risk of bricking a phone, as some people have found out the hard way.
You will need:
* recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2R.img
* DREAIMG.nbh For Rogers 911 fix
* working fastboot
* Engineering SPL (others may or may not work):
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA21000)
* EBI0 users (aka RADIO-2.22.19.26I): signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip or radio image
(edit) NOTE this will likely only work on rogers HTC Dream phones.
1) download http://rapidshare.com/files/340176423/DREAIMG.nbh.html MD5: f6c6865a92f52345cee374960773df7d
2) Place this version of DREAMING on the root of your SD card
3) run Nandroid backup!!! (this also ensures your current recovery works)
4) turn off phone and turn on holding camera
5) Start HBOOT mode (may start on its own, otherwise press "send" to go to FASTBOOT then camera to return and re-try HBOOT)
6) it will ask you to install [1] RADIO_V2 [2] RECOVERY [3] BOOT [4] SYSTEM [5] USERDATA
7) press action key (trackball) to install rogers firmeware w/o SPL
8) wait while install continues
9) When prompted to reboot hold camera while you press the action key
10) Now back in the SPL use fastboot to flash recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2R.img (fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-dream-v1.5.2R.img)
11) Menu to shut off
12) power and boot into rogers rom
>> You now have a non-rooted rogers rom with the rogers radio;
>> however you have fastboot with engineering SPL; and a full recovery image
If you where using radio 2.22.19.26I this will need to be recovered and nandroid restore run; otherwise hopefully you only need the nandroid restore (not tested by me)
Restore Cyanogen and other EBI0 roms /Radio 2.22.19.26I From a previous Nandroid backup ONLY:
First if you are running CM.. strongly consider switching to the EBI1 version it is much less likely to brick your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5486532&postcount=428
Thus far 3 phones (my own included) have been bricked attempting to restore EBI0; as such I'm removing my original instructions (I'm confident they worked if used correctly but think there are better ways to keep your phone operating)
New steps:
1) nandroid restore
2) reboot phone (if it boots you restored a EBI1 rom.. and its a good thing we didn't use my original steps)
3) If the phone gets stuck on rogers logo pull battery
4) reconsider switching to EBI1 port http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5486532&postcount=428
5) if for a second time you refuse to switch to the EBI1 port: download ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip from http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
6) unzip and extract radio.img
7) enter fastboot on the phone
8) run 'fastboot flash radio radio.img'
9) try to boot your phone good luck
Restore Cyanogen or other EBI1 rom From a previous Nandroid backup ONLY:
1) Run Nandroid recovery
New CFW Install:
Find and Follow "rogers" install instructions
EBI0 roms: you have only installed the SPL; you will still need to install Radio + recovery
EBI1 roms: you have already installed SPL + Recovory
This is only for HTC dreams right? Not unlocked Tmobile G1's running CM 4.2.13 on Rogers?
question. my account says im on a blackberry bold 9000, will this effect me since im using my htc dream on the account or will they overlook me not knowing im on the dream?
*edit*
im guessing they know im using my htc dream due to i got the txt msg.. so that rules that out
but arent they breaking the contract terms by disabling our data until we do their new since update since we signed before this update was even thought about?

Did they text you about a e911 issue? I don't think flashing a Rogers firmware on a T-Mobile G1 a good idea.
Everything working fine, CM 4.2.13 , rooted, and 2.22.19.26. 1.6 recovery
Maybe they are also checking whether or not the phone was bought from them or from another source , by checking IMEI/SN. Not sure , but everything is fine with my internet access.
Ok, first the nitty and gritty.
Bell Canada already lost this argument, back in the late 70s or early 80s.
Back then, Bell only allowed "Bell Canada approved phones", or at the time, Northern Telecom phones. They claimed that other phones could "harm their switches", and so on, and so forth.
The also claimed that modems were an "abuse of the line", and that fax machines could not be connected without paying a special fee.
All three of these things were overruled, either by CRTC or court decisions at the time. The CRTC/court did not buy the hogwash, that phones designed to work on Bell's network, by competitors, were somehow a danger to Bell.
The same parallel can be drawn here, and is likely why the poster above, did not find that statement in the TOS provided by Rogers. Rogers' legal likely knows that if they push too hard to keep such phones off their network, a court or CRTC decision based upon prior prescident will force them to move to a fully open network.
That is, the CRTC or a court, will not buy that standard GSM phones, designed for a standard GSM network, running on a GSM network built and designed to be compatible with standard GSM phones, will cause issues.
It won't, and it is hogwash.
That said, there is a big difference between refusing to help with cell phone specific issues, and blocking cell phones off their network. Refusing to help with cell phones specific issues, with cell phones they are not familiar with, is reasonable.
Blocking cell phones, for no other reason that they assume there are issues with them, is not reasonable.
This all said and done, what would they be keying on? That is, is there a version string on the ROM? If so, why would we even care if the rom said DREAM in it?
Why not call it "MAERD_NOT" instead?
Is this hard coded in the radio? I'd guess so....
Opinions from any developers would be very, very appreciated...

I can confirm the same.
I had thought that their disconnect was tomorrow, I did not realise that today was the 24th. I guess it makes sense, as everyone will have issues on Sunday, and theoretically have time to update on their day off..
So, so far, perhaps they are triggering only on the specific bad version of the rom, which is the logical thing to do...
hrm
Well, I'm running CM 4.2.11, android 1.6, radio 3.33, and spl 1.33.xx, and its 1144 on 01/24/2010, and I've not lost my data services.
For the time being, it looks like they're just looking for either Android 1.5+, or radio 3.22+. I'm goona leave my phone as is for now, and see what happens. We'll see what happens over the next few hours, but their update process is clearly not what we've been told. (Data services was supposed to be disconnected for all G1 users at 0600, period.)
P.S. I asked Rogers very specifically, if they were going to probe each phone to find out which were effected by the 911 bug. They said they were disconnecting data services to ALL G1 handsets, until some script on their side, could log into our devices, and check that the update was in place. *sigh*
Yeah my internet's been disabled too now. It happened around noon for me. I really hope someone comes out with a fix for this. I called in to Rogers too and asked if he could reactivate my data for me but he was like, "Your SIM is from 2004, so it is too old, please use the SIM provided with your phone and call us back to reactivate your number." Not sure what that means though. He said something about how it might not work.
Additionally, I'm also on CM 4.2.13.
I can't believe how low traffic this thread is. Are there only 7 people in Canada, running non-rogers g1's?

I agree, and told Rogers all of this last night. They said "There are no legal ramifications to discontinuing service to unsupported handsets".
I pointed out that this is not an issue of "support", rather it was an issue of them purposefully and forcefully un-supporting non-rogers branded phones and software, which HAS and WILL AGAIN, have legal ramifications.
All this is well and good, except that it seems there are only 7 of us using non-rogers roms wtf.
I'm in Toronto and I can confirm I just loss my data 15 minutes ago. So do the instruction on page 1 work? I'm wondering if I should wait and see or just go ahead with the flash.

What Radio are you running?
Can anyone who HAS lost data services, report back their radio version?
You can do this by starting your phone in fastboot mode (camera+power button). Radio version is at the top left.
I updated my system and boot partitions, but not the radio and SPL (you can extract the images from the update if you know how...). I didn't want to update the radio in case it wasn't compatible with 1.33.2005 SPL. I also lost my data connection a couple hours ago. If it doesn't come back by tomorrow, then I know that it must be the radio version that they're checking for.
Edit: Radio is 3.22.20.17. Hasn't been touched since I got the phone when it came out.

Added on my post.
Hello;
I'm wondering if people could post their status for the data so that those of us who don't have data have something to tell Rogers.
My status is that Rogers won't do the Network Refresh - I've called and spoken to about half a dozen people (both in data and not) and there is obviously a memo as none are willing to do it. I've requested escalation but have not heard back.
They are insisting that even if the refresh did work, it could also revert and no longer work -- can anyone confirm whether or not they have lost data since getting their refresh?
They have also told me that they can't do the refresh for technical reasons, they've told me that the refresh won't do anything since the tower won't communicate with my phone until I put their update as it won't be compatible. So basically I'm getting the run-around ... no surprise.
I'm also on a "master ticket" which they claim only have 40 people on it - seems to me that this board has more than 40 people, so maybe there's only 40 of us that are modded and can't otherwise get data.
I'm on 1.6 now, but obviously if I can't get the data back I'll look at CursorSense32A since from what I'm reading here that seems to be the only one that reliably works w/o Rogers intervention.
Here's my current details:
Firmware version 1.6
cyanogenmod 4.2.13
Build DRC92
Baseband 62.52S.20.18H_3.22.20.17
Kernel 2.6.;29.6-cm42

What is from development in your post?
Hello 5[Strogino];
My apologies if this is in the wrong area: I put it here as this thread Rogers Mandatory Update is here as well. I did look to see if there was another forum and thought maybe "Software and Hacking General" but it says no noobs and as this is my second post I'm pretty sure I qualify.
I'm really just trying to get a single location where those of us who are/were affected by the mandatory update can post our current status. The original thread has a lot of people posting a lot of different scenarios and there is a lot of time covered in that thread so it's difficult to tell if people had it working, lost connectivity etc.
So with that goal in mind, can you suggest an alternate location for this thread and either maybe you can get it moved (as a sr. member?), or I can repost it there.
Thanks.
I had no data for almost a week. I then upgraded to 6.35.10.18 Radio and 1.76.2007 SPL, and then installed cursorsense rom.
My data returned within about 36 hours.
Lee

Are you still giving out this bull**** advice?
HERES THE REAL SOLUTION
1. Call Customer Care *611 : Say cancel my service to get to a rep without saying anything else
2. Tell them youve updated to the newest rom and that your data isnt working ( they shouldnt ask any questions really just tell them it was from the website)
3. They will perform a resend to switch which will disconnect you from the call
4. Reboot phone and you will have data
NO NEED TO FLASH ANYTHING
5. Have Data faster than what the above solution is telling you
I can confirm this works on both rooted dreams and magics as i own both and have friends with dreams
data has not been lost once
If customer care gives you a hard time request their manager
The manager should coach them to do the data restore or hell do it himself
If the manager is a douche and wont do it (sometimes this happens)
just tell him u want to cancel because of this
they should be able to do it to prevent you from canceling your service i would think
honestly ive never had a problem finding a rep to do it in 5 seconds
just hang up if you get an idiot and try again ;P
Customer relations and customer care and the escalation support group all have access to the network refresh
If you want a manager they can resend to switch
If you want to cancel you are transferred to customer relations
who can resend to switch
AND the people that you talk to customer care can too
If your talking to tech support they are retarded
The customer care policy from a senior customer care agents mouth " Our reference says to do the resend to switch to refresh the network to restore data"
hey alan090;
I've been trying that for a week -- I'm sure this worked earlier, but this 'hack' appears to be closed. They seem to know not to do this both in the regular wireless as well as the data divisions.
Has anyone installed cursorsense and not gotten their data back?
Question #2:
Are people who have data via network refresh still getting the texts and calls to tell them they need to update?
On Amon RA's 1.6.3 Donut ROM. Had no data for about 24 hours, used the live support and got it back with a network refresh. Have had it even since. Never flashed the new radio or any new ROM. Still getting texts and calls though, quite annoying.

We all know a network refresh can get our data back. However, we don't know if it is a permanent solution. Rogers can disable phones that have the old radio again any time they like.
On top of that, getting someone to actually do the refresh is a major PITA, something I certainly am not willing to do. Calling in repeatedly to get someone who will do it is not my idea of fun.
I'd prefer to update the phone to the radio they are looking for, and then I can load on any rom I want.
I'd suggest you don't put down others suggestions, especially since they seem to work for everyone. We know the refresh works, and this method works too.

The refresh is permanent and is the PROPER method
If the Radio works thats just luck
I KNOW agents personally in customer care
I just chatted with them last night
and This is what needs to be done
Changing radio and rom for the data back is too much work even if it does work
The network refresh works for everyone
This method has not been 100% conclusive since people have flashed it and it still does nothing to bring data back

Flashing the radio is the conclusive way to bring radio back.
If you have any idea who bcrook is you would give some credit to his advice, because he is one of the ones on xda who knows his stuff about the technical aspects of things.
After flashing the radio image, I have not received any more texts or phone calls from Rogers.
Flashing the radio is very simple. You just have to make sure you do it right. I also received a network refresh, but flashing the radio is the permanent solution.
So yes. Do your network refresh. If you can, flash your radio too.
So for those who upgraded to CursorSense basically needs to stay with this ROM forever? I like this ROM but I'd like to be able to upgrade to some version of 2.x in the near future...

Ive had people on the same radios from day one with their data back
VERIFIED never touched the rogers radio and *gasp* still have data
notice you had the resend to switch as well as the radio? do you think if you didnt flash the radio it would not work magically? no it still will
you can still use the stock 1.5 image with no updates to ANYTHING and get your data back
think what you want im just trying to help you guys get your data
spend 24-48 hours waiting before you actually follow what I said to get your data back as the radio step is completely unnecessary
Oh BTW regarding those texts and/or phone calls
so dont feel special because they stopped sending them to me on my v3 radio too
Alan,
I manage 15 or so Rogers phones at work, and the only people who got texts and calls about it were our dream and magic users. The other 11 or so people did not get any messages.
Rogers would have identified who to alerts/disable by either:
a)IMEI on your account
b)doing a scan for certain phones.
"a" is much more likely, as otherwise they would pickup non-rogers customers who happened to be in a Rogers area when the scan was done.

Ill check on that
I thought I had gotten reports from some people that they had gotten them on non-dreams
Ill check on my account that only has a lg xenon on it

So wait, let me get this straight...
Upgrading to the files they are looking for is "bull**** advice"
The REAL solution is calling into Rogers, threatening to cancel your account to get a network refresh?
I myself called Tech Support and Customer Care for about a week asking for a network refresh and never got one. The days that I did, nothing happened when I rebooted my phone. Eventually I just upgreaded the Radio to 1.76 and installed the default Rom (But I still have access to fastboot for future flashes). Withen about 36 hours my phone had data again.
Threatening to cancel you account is a stupid way to get data back. It's an equivilent to throwing a tempertantrum because your mom said "No more cookies unless you do your homework". Screw doing the homework, cry and tell them you'll run away is the REAL SOLUTION
I think I can answer this question myself, but I still want to verify with those who have already "been there, done that"
I'm on SchizioPunk's Epic Experience Rom (DI18)
I have read on his Thread about him working on EB13 for Samsung Epic Phones, while I do realize some of his Rom Updates require Wiping your device, I'm a bit curious on how upgrading to his latest Cooked Rom, (when he releases it) Would Affect my Phone.
I am not with Sprint PCS. It's with Metro PCS. Got my phone "Fully" Flashed at some pretty shady place, I know for the most part, the info needed in case I had to re-input my Mobile Network's Info, but I am not positive wether or not upgrading to his latest cooked rom will require re-inputting all my Carrier's Data all over again, as, I have already stated, is not the default Carrier that came with it..
Please don't post over Titanium Backup, I'm pretty squared away on backing up as a priority. A response would be greatly appreciated.
do u have mms working with this rom?
Sorry for the old reply
Yes, EVERYTHING is working, MMS, GPS, heck even 4G will work if I pay for it using my debit card. (I have already and I tethered it.)
hm...everything working...
LOL @ Crazysnid
You saying just that wasn't either helpful or necessary, obviously you're trying to reach 10 post count -.-
Hello all,
new user...this place rocks...and so do you all..etc etc
I was just wondering how they (USCC) know if I root my phone or not?
It's almost like they beg us to void the warranty by not giving any updates or accurate release info....could that be apart of the big plan? Lure us into this excellent online community...(which quite possibly could be an average idiots downfall)?
Couldn't I just load up the stock everything, and they would never know?
cheers

Depending on what you do they can't. If you have Froyo then obviously you have loaded unofficial software and they could see that. Otherwise I am not sure what you mean by load up on stock everything. If you did that on Eclair then I am not sure why you would want to root to begin with.
all you have to do, no matter what you flash to, is use Odin and you can go back to stock 2.1. even if you where using the fryoy leak with custom boot animations and all kinds of other mods...as long as you can boot in download mode you can go backto the way this phone was right out of the box
As of now this is only possible for mesmerize users, showcase has no 2.1 odin.

Actually, I doubt USCC even checks. When you take your phone if for warranty, they just send it to the manufacturer and if the manufacturer (samsung) says that it's not warranty worthy then it isn't. At least that's how it worked for my TouchPro.. But all root does is add some files to the system. If you remove those two files it's like your phone was never rooted.
If you only rooted & it's stock firmware, hit the menu key while you're on the home screen then hit settings>factory data reset (THIS DOES NOT TOUCH DATA ON YOUR SD CARD). No way for them to know then. Make sure you have all your data backed up onto your SD card before doing this.
I've actually taken my phone in to the USCC shop a couple of times, the store manager thinks mine is so much better than his because of the theme and density and stuff. He asked me how it was so fast and I told him it was a secret

they CAN see if you are rooted and you can take that to the bank. but because of a certain thing called the Bill of Rights they can not do anything with the information.
ya know when you download apps and it warns you about how it can collect data?
well every single carrier in the world CAN see EXACTLY what you have on your phone with regards to Firmware and Kernel.... that is a 100% guarentee. i know for a fact they can.
it is the EXACT same way that the network knows if your phone needs an update.
it pings your phone and requests firmware information. if its old it tells you there is an update, if not, it doesnt.
on my old EVO if you were running a non stock firmware, or even one that was modified you would not be told of updates because the network knows your not on a stock rom. the phone sends the servers information it doesnt recognize in regards to what you are running, or it sends info that the servers have listed as not eligible for upgrades and it denies you the upgrade.
now, JUST rooting, thats a little different. it needs more info than just "what firmware do you have Mr. Phone?"
but i can guarentee you that the phone IS sending data to the carriers about what it is running.
I am posting this here because I received an error message stating that I could not post in the development section. Kabaldan had posted that a universal build was available now for the Photon Q and wanted feedback from those that tested it. I wanted to respond but since I can't in that thread I will do it here and hope he finds it. Anyway, I have installed the universal build and for the most part it works great. The only two issues I have are the same two issues I have found with the official cm10.1, the nightlies of cm10.2, as well as all the other custom roms that are available here for the photon Q. Those two issues are as follows:
1) I am unable to connect to my cellular companies network. I am connected through Sprint. What I want to connect to is CSpire's network since that is the company I have my cellular service with. I do not know how tomake that happen.
2) I am unable to send or receive picture messages. So I have followed the suggestions from other users and tried Go SMS, Chomp SMS, and Handsent SMS. If I have those installed I can receive picture messages, sometimes. It is not everytime but most of the time. But even with those 3rd party apps I am unable to send pictures. I have actually had one sending for an hour and half this morning. My phone kept saying "sending..." so I finally stopped it.
Now I am not sure if the two are related or not. I have read where others have had success sending and receiving witht he 3rd party apps. So I am thinking it is maybe because I am not connected to my cellular companies network. Of course, as far as I know that may have absolutely nothing to do with it. If anybody knows, I would be grateful for advice on how to fix this. Otherwise I can't get the full benefit from a custom rom. Thanks in advance.
1. Is not an issue with the ROM at all. Make sure it works on stock before going to any aftermarket ROM's.
2. If you don't have service, how can you send or receive MMS? Cart before the horse buddy, get your cell service issue sorted first.

Ok, so let me clarify my original post. When I am on the stock ROM I can send and receive MMS. It is when I go to an aftermarket ROM that I am having the issue. I can receive picture messages by using a 3rd party messaging app (such as Handsent) but I cannot send them. I currently do have service. I did not say that I did not have service. I am connected and it says my service provider is Sprint. Sprint is not my cellular company, CSpire is. I can do everything on an aftermarket ROM that I can do on stock ROM except picture messaging. I can surf the web, download apps, watch youtube videos, send and receive email, etc. I was pointing out that my phone states it is connected to Sprint's network and not CSpire's network. I am wondering if there is a difference somehwere that causes picture messaging to not work. That may not have anything to do with it but I am asking so I can rule out all possibilities.

So on stock ROM it says CSpire correctly?
The phone works fine when it says "Sprint" in the notification pulldown in custom ROM's, just MMS is failing? Sounds like an APN issue... I'm not sure you can configure this from the normal settings, you might need to tweak the build.prop to work for CSpire.
Hopefully someone chimes in who has CSpire... I'd say there is a build.prop change needed, which can be made into a flashable zip which all CSpire users can apply after flashing...

You are correct. On stock ROM it says CSpire. And you are also correct in that the phone works fine when it says "Sprint" in the notification pulldown in custom ROM's. And yes it seems at this point that only MMS is failing.
And since I will more than likely screw my phone up if I try to tweak it, I will wait and see if someone who knows what they are doing with CSpire (or knowledge of it) chimes in and offers a solution. Thank you for offering your assistance.
The current worldphone CM 10.2 xt897 build is made for Sprint CDMA/universal SIM modded GSM-UMTS usage.
The C-Spire variant would need at least a few changes to build.prop and different eri.xml overlay.

I'm not positive what these would be. I would also love to see them wrapped up into a flashable ZIP so we don't have to make separate ROM's just for CSpire users.
Shouldn't be too difficult, I just need to know what is different

I assumed that the build came from the original Sprint version and modded to work (or whatever the process was). That must be the same reason the other custom ROM's have the same issue. I appreciate your explanation. Now I know a little more than I already did. Just wish I had the tech know how to help you guys out.

I have no idea how to help but I would be glad to if I can. I will say this.... it might be more trouble than it is worth. CSpire is a very small local company and even though they are still selling the Photon Q online, not many of the stores have them in stock. I only know of one other person who has the phone. So there may not really be that big of a demand for this fix other than me. Everything else works great with these ROM's so I can just use alternative methods for sending pics for now. Thanks again.

lsufan72: To fully support CSpire Photon Q in the new unified CM11 builds should be fairly simple now, but I need to see the content of /proc/cmdline from CSpire Photon Q.
Please post it in this thread if you can: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656570
Thanks.
