Power Button - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have worked at HTC for a few months, got given a nexus one as a little treat.. After a couple of weeks, begin to notice common faults, and of course i dare say most of you are aware of the Issue with the Power button.
SO i thought id go ahead and but the new Nexus S, love the phone however i have noticed that the Nexus S is doing the same thing, ( Power button sinking)
Was just wandering if anyone else has had this fault with their nexus s.
Cheers

Absolutely not. I've noticed that it doesn't bulge very much like other devices I've used (it is however actually tactile unlike the one on the Epic 4G) but it is most definitely not sinking on either my device or my wife's.

I've had the N1 for a long time now. My biggest complaint that I can't deal with anymore is the touch screen. I've been eyeing the Sensation for awhile now. For those of you that upgraded from the N1 did you regret it? What are you're thoughts on the Sensation compared to the N1. Other than the obvious unlocked boot loader.
I've heard there are touch screen issues are these as severe as the N1's?
The nexus one had touchscreen issues?
If you used to fingers and crossed axis it would get confused left to right making it almost impossible to play games using virtual controllers. Intermittantly they will wig out and lose touch screen calibration. You would touch one part and it would read it almost a half inch off. Only work around for the calibration is to lock the screen than unlock it. This is what's driving me nuts.

lawl.
Anyway, I came from a nexus one and I haven't had any touchscreen issues with my sensation. Personally im very happy with the phone so far. The only complaint I have so far is I really miss my trackball notifications, and of course the locked bootloader (but in time the second will change). Other then those, I cant really think of anything else.

yeah, the sensation has proper multitouch too, no more cross axis issues.
I had the awesome nexus one with very few issues and I haven't had any touchscreen issues with my Sensation! Just some lag in Sense...
I have since given my cherished n1 to my wife. She just wants my games lol....
Yes the touchscreen works finally but besides that I would wait until the bootloader is unlocked. I jumped in because of the 148 price at wally mart. Compared to what I had initially paid for the N1, I think upgrading to this baby is worth it for the price.
Do I miss my N1? Sure do, like the others said, trackball alert was a big thing for me. I miss looking across the room to see if I had missed a call or not from my charger. Also miss the weekly MIUI updates. Since the sensation, I haven't updated miui and I heard the lockscreen has been changed a bit from the normal ones. Makes me want to grab the n1 and start flashing the sucker....maybe just out of withdrawal lol....
The positives is that the phone looks and sounds great. Besides the low speaker volume in speakerphone mode and some other issues like the gallery and video quirks some users have come across. Do not get me wrong, I do NOT regret this phone at all. I just wish the s-off comes already lol.

[Q] Any true hardware issues?

Hi, im going to the USA this week and i want to buy an htc sensation, the thing is im looking for any mayor hardware issues on the phone, i dont care for the low volume or the short battery life (its a smartphone....we rly need to get used to the 8 hour baterry life =P ).....im talking about things that are big like:
* Phone gettin rly hot and making it reboot a lot (happened with my htc desire)
* this rumor about the sensation having some emc issues with the camera
I know theres a lot of threads about the phone issues but what i found out were people complaining on batery life or some apps not working or mostly software issues...... like i said im trying to look for real hardware issues like the death handgrip on the iphone4, i dont want to pay for a 600$ phone that 40% of the first batch production have defective hardware.....i cant go back and get it replaced after i buy it, thats what i get for living in a 3° world country so please dont tell me to move to a civilised country because i cant
My sensation gets really really hot on the bottom of the screen where you type when in the portrait position. I exchanged the phone for another and the second one does the same thing, I can honestly feel the tips of my fingers get hot when I type(really hot). Death grip is very real, same with both phones. Battery life is ok at best. If i could do it again I would wait and get something else. Just my 2 cents. Also phone lockscreen is a bit buggy, sense restarts regularly..........
Also the bottom of the screen goes unresponsive quite regularly, same with both phones. Not sure if that is hardware or software, just so you know
hmmm, seems like the heat issues repeats itself on several forums, and the weird lack of ecm protection of the camera also.
seems like ill be gettin a samsung galaxy s2
thx for the info

I would, I think this will be my last HTC phone, they always make a device with cool features and tremendous potential but never quite cuts the mustard. I have hung in there since the tilt and I think I am done lol
I often lurk the threads of the new devices and I appreciate the brutal honesty you have all displayed.. I tend to be a bit of a lurker. I am a Nexus One owner and I COULD upgrade... but it just doesn't seem to cut it. That being said, I'd never own a Samsung device, HTC has been perfect for me since the G1. Guess I will hold out and cross my fingers that HTC manufactures the next Nexus device.
Turn down the brightness, this will probably solve the issue with the phone getting very hot. 2 days ago, mine got VERY hot where the touch buttons are located. I was quite confused about this because it had not happened before. Then I realized I had set the screen brightness to 100% because I couldn't read the screen in bright daylight a couple hours earlier and forgot to turn it back down. Reset to my usual 15-25% and everything was fine again.
I havent had any overheating or hardware issues. Havent had any problem yet. Great phone!!!!!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
ok, if the heat issue can be solved by turning down the brightess im in......i mean i dont care if the sense 3.0 got bugs, they will fix that with future updates, what im worried about is this rumor about the camera taking bad pictures because it got emc leakage , seems like it does not have any emc protection for the lens....thx for the replys btw
Here are some issues:
Dust (I don't have it)
Death grip (very real)
Creaking (not such a big issue, but something that shouldn't happen on an expensive phone like this)
Lockscreen (software/hardware. I think it's software)
And some other things
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Nothing to really complain about for me. I haven't had response issues. Although the death grip phenomenon is real, I've managed to avoid it by not covering the plastic on the top half on the device. Hopefully, HTC can come up with a new cover if enough people complain. There was one instance where, during GPS use, the metal back cover was almost too hot to hold. I believe that was due more to direct sunlight on my dashboard than the phone itself. Love the polished feel of the new Sense UI. If I could do it over, I'd prefer a Droid Bionic, but only by a very small amount. And that's only because of the speed of the hardware and Verizon's data speed/reception quality where I am. If you're looking to stay on TMO, I'd definitely recommend it.

Had HTC one but on 3rd replacement have given up so getting s4

I have always bought Samsung for the last few years but thought of give the new HTC one a chance how I regret it
3 replacements and still have issues so I've thrown in the towel and arranged a replacement in a few weeks to the s4 so back to Samsung I come
Question one of the biggest things with the one is the speakers I presume the s4 will still have tiny speakers ?
Have Samsung sorted the emmc chip problem out as my note 2 died onme hence jumping ship
Tbh im looking forward to turning to Samsung just hope the handset is as good as people make out

check out the reviews thread. one of them has comparisons of the speakers. i have an S3 and it's not tiny. the S4 is supposed to be a little louder in some aspects so it'll be fine. prob not HTC One loudness but it won't be tiny sounding.
not sure about emmc. looks like it was sorted out back with the S2/Note 1. i'd suspect it would be fixed for S4.
edit: off topic, what was wrong with all 3 of your HTC One's?

Hi mrvirginia
The first one had an issue with the camera when taking video's had an awful hiss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ1xApO0wN8
also the home / back button didn't work properly (and still the case on my 3rd replacement hence why ive thrown the towel in)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5ZBhJiFfjY
Second one which arrived - well what can I say !
Proximity sensor didn't work
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otsa0_gkVI8
Back/home lights didn't work - presume down to the sensor not working
and it also had an horrendous screen problem where white glowed through because it wasn't sealed
I don't think ill get htc one speaker quality just don't want really low
Really disappointed at HTC but now know why I went to Samsung

man, that sucks. well, in the past i've had more problems with Sammy phones over HTC. S2 had a nickel sized ring on the screen that i didn't notice until after it was too late to send back. Galaxy Nexus had banding issue and when i sold it, it had been used for about 6mon and then off for a straight 6mon. turned it on and it had some bad burn-in lines. S3 screen has a few black splotches when looking at completely black screen in a dark room. had the HTC One X when it first came out and the only thing wrong with it was a loose volume rocker on the first one. second one was perfect but i just ended up not liking that device. so yeah, Samsung just typically has issues with it's AMOLED displays, pentile or not. also, the S3 i have is my 3rd one haha. first one had backlight bleed. second one had very loose power/volume rocker. this 3rd one has a loose power button but i gave up at that point and just said whatever. here's to hoping the S4 is perfect...
I imagine ever phone has issues when launched I can't think of one that has been great first time. Maybe the iPhone 4S I can't remember any glaring issues from that. But I have had problems with a lot of devices when I purchase them first off. I'd maybe wait for the S4 until others get it then see if it has issues. Not ever HTC One is a bad device either.

The speakers are twice the size of the N2 and three times the size of the SGS3. Here's GSMArena's conclusion after comparing the two...
Winner: HTC One. The Galaxy S4 is a tad louder, but the HTC One takes this one with well-positioned stereo speakers and far nicer sound in general.

I had a Teg3 One X I got last March from the first batch built and it was perfect. But there were a ton of h/w and s/w releated QC issues and people on the forum weren't exactly happy. The One's experiencing them too and people saying "my third exchange seems to be better" isn't uncommon. HTC chooses incredibly complicated designs which look great but are a ***** to manufacture consistently. Beauty has its price.
My first SIII had a defect, the volume buttons were so loose that when the phone vibrated, they would rattle inside the device! Not that I'm going to complain too much about it, I kept it for almost the full 60 days I had to return it at Best Buy with Silver rewards membership, and I'm on the same one since August 2012....
One thing I wanted to mention in this whole discussion is.... who drops an SIII for an iPhone 5, after having the 4 and 4S? Hell, it's enough to switch between brands of Android manufacturers to understand how things work on the different phones, but between operating systems? That would drive me crazy, aside from the fact that even trying to use a locked down OS would make me want to throw that stupid thing against a brick wall!

Lol experienced that with my note 2 .... hence why I jumped ship however I regret doing that and cant wait for the s4
Just hope I don't experience the same with the s4 as im stuck on a 2yr contract
One bonus with Sammy is I have a proper repair centre 5 mins from me in Manchester and they sorted my Note 2 out for me
In the same boat, just called today and said I want to swap my contract to a GS4. I just hope I get a good one first time, Samsung have never let me down before. It is a shame though as I really wanted to like the One, I liked a lot about it, just the build quality was very poor and it was a dead/stuck pixel heaven on that screen.

I had a dodgy S3 on release, I was one of the first in the forum if I remember & I switch phone OS's loads. Doesnt bother me at all I could happily live with an iPhone or an android phone. I preferred the 5 to the S3 my opinion obviously but I'm using the One now and liking it
I've had 2 HTC phones and absolutely hated them both. Problems galore...
The GS4 is my first jump into a Samsung smartphone. All my other techy friends left HTC for Samsung and never looked back.
Crossing my fingers. I know that there are/can be issues with the first batch but I'm not letting HTC bite me in the ass for a 3rd time. This thread is proof that I can't trust them anymore, no matter how good the reviews for the HTC One are.
Sorry guys but my opinion about some of you is, that you are really bored and looking for something perfection that is not normal.
I don't mean that to serious problems like pixel errors or something similar serious problem.
I mean, that if you are satisfied with your phone and you probably find a little problem (like a volume key not being perfect or the unibody is 0,02 inch bigger on one side) you surely know that you can send your phone to guaranty departement if the tiny problem is getting "bigger".
Not just that. you post it big on forums to show how unhappy you are, but there is another star in the dark sky shining on you and you illusions.
Most people of this kind also don't have really good social contacts, like having a good girlfriend for example.
Please do not see this as an personal attack. It is just something that someone wants you to know, that you are not happy for real...

I meant something like: going shopping if you are unhappy with your life or searching for a hair in the soup to get involved with the restaurant, but in reality your wife just left you.

Are your hardware buttons also loosly seated?

A bit disappointed with the buttons on this device, a feeling I got when I first opened the N4. They sit a bit loose with some play in them, and it feels even worse than it did initially on the N4. Now, I'm wondering if this is could be a first-batch sort of thing that could eventually be worked out in further production rounds. How do your power and volume buttons feel?
Same as yours I think. Especially the power/wake button.. To be honest I don't give much about that. Got warranty and if something breaks I'll just visit the store I bought it at.

[Q] New Nexus 5 Rattle

I have the newer updated version of the Nexus 5, and I have now noticed a rattle.
My dad has the Nexus 4, and he found a rattle, which made my more conscious about mine. So I've found that I now have a rattle too. I love the phone, and I know it's only a small problem, but should I RMA it? It's only about a month old now.
Would Google let me RMA it for this? I also think the vibration motor may have a slight problem as it does make an almost tweet sound when I type, and I have read that, that is a fairly common problem too.
Does anyone else's new model Nexus 5 rattle still?
I have tried holding the power button etc. but it still happens, so it must be internal.

If your holding the power button and it rattled than its probably the ois of the camera which is normal. Or it could be volume buttons. The vibration is it really loud? Or just a tiny noise. If it's really loud and annoying RMA it but if not then you don't need to and shouldn't bother. Also there's an RMA thread. Check that out.

OIS camera module is supposed to move but you really have to shake the phone to hear it from what I can tell. Does anyone actually ever do that to their phone?
You can try to RMA it, but remember there's always a chance that you might get a phone with more rattle or a different issue. Although this shouldn't happen it could so if it's not bad I would just keep it. I RMA'd my original one for the rattle issue because it really was loud. Whenever I would slide down the notification bar I would hear it rattle or if I tapped any of the toggles in the top corner. It's really upto you though. From your OP it doesn't seem like it's that bad.
