On my vibrant there is an option in menu..settings..wireless and networks..mobile networks where I can set wcdma only.
I ordered my nexus s this morning and would like to know if this setting is available. If not, can somebody confirm that setting it in *#*#4636#*#* indeed does force 3g?
Thanks in advance..

Following your menu lead shows the following:
Data enabled [ ]
Data roaming [ ]
acess point names
Use only 2G network [ ]
finally,
network operators
As for the code you mentioned, I don't need to force 3G as I am already on it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info about the menu .. can someone test using the code please? The code worked on the mytouch and the g1 just would like confirmation.

so ive had my phone since december when it came out and just recently i factory reset my device and it will not connect to 3g or 2g at all. I havent had any problems with my phone until now and i was wondering if anyone knows if there are any solutions. Im running 2.3.4 and im on t-mobile and i have always had great 3g coverage wherever i go so i know that that isnt the issue so if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it.
(edit) I just tried other sim cards and they wont pick up on 3g or 2g networks either. im at a loss on what to do.
You could flash a stock rom a 2.3.3 from tomorrow manager.

Input apn settings manually?

I had the same problem with my dutch provider free nexus s. You have to set the APN manually. On the T-Mobile website they should have the settings. I had a problem though cause in Holland the nexus s settings were not on t-mobiles website so I had to use the galaxy s settings but the apn type I had to set it to default instead of internet..bang!! May there be 3g

If you used widgetsoid or any other widget or program to toggle 2G/3G or Mobile Data on and off that could be the culprit as it some have the ability to rename the apn. I had this happen about a week after updating a phone to cm7 from 2.3.2. I had to reinstall widgetsoid and change the mobile data toggle to the root option. Then I made a widget to toggle data on and off and did that from the widget to fix the issue. It can uninstalled with no issues once done if this is your problem.

Try to flash a phone if you do not help means that the operator, or reset settings
Do you have the correct APN (Access Point Name) set for your network operator?
Some apps that allow you to turn data on/off rename the APN from for example:
internet to _disabled_internet.
If you use the app to switch it off then uninstall the app, it leaves the APN with the wrong name.
Do you have the these settings as follows:
Settings > Wireless & network settings > Mobile Networks > Data enabled = True
> Use only 2G networks = False
Yes i think that i have the correct apn .

i have installed various custom roms and so far having no luck with my Sim data 3g. Wifi connection is ok but the sim data is not working. I can see that my carrier is detected and that is all.
I have attached a screenshot of the specs im using. As i have said- i have tried various roms and still cannot get this final issue fixed.

thanks for the tip, although i have checked and triple checked. Its not the fix here. The icon picks up my mobile provider which is good however its the 3g data that is not working. I should have updated the subject line to - no 3G data working on this rom
Hi,
When I am on 3g network no websites open on dolphin and stock browser but on Wi-Fi I don't face this problem. I can access whatsapp, play store and all apps that access the internet on 3g and Wi-Fi. Please guide the solution. I am using Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 gingerbread.
May be u would have enabled the ' use only 2g' option in the settings menu.....

In connection type I have tried auto and WCDMA only. Even if it was GSM only (2g) than would that block websites on browser and allow other apps to access the internet?
Try rebooting your phone or ask for network settings from the carrier network
Hit thanks if I helpes you
Try going to your about phone settings, and updating PRL and Profile, it may solve your issue.
An alternative option if you have a recovery available, is to flash your radio/modem. I had terrible 3g connection issues, and that solved it for me.
I found the solution. The proxy setting sent by the service provider was 0.0.0.0 and port 0.Changed both to blank and it worked
Hi Omni Team,
Can we have the option of swtiching network mode(2G/3G/LTE) in the mobile settings? This is required for switching network for battery saving and selectively change network depending on the area the user is currently.
This option is there in most AOSP ROMS(CM, AOKP).
Thanks for reading this request.
Thanks,
Kunal
The last time i checked it, the network mode was a flippable quick tile...

Just a thought, not sure if it is connected but I previously had the option to change between 2g only/ 3g only/ and 2g with 3g preferred. Today I switched carriers from t-mobile UK to giffgaff and also performed OTA update if latest nightly and the option now doesn't let you choose and only has 2g/3g prefered.
Not sure whether it had to do with the update or changing carrier.
