Hi guys.
most of my uncles and brothers work in usa and I live in india.
Two of my brothers work in android.
They said to me about gingerbread that....
It has a highly custamisable ui
Ui is very near to the palms web os
The icons will be in the shape of cuboid.
You can even change the notification bar colour.
Notification bar icons can also be changed.
Coming to the browser, gingerbreads browser will have more speed than froyo.
The browser supports add-ons.
There will be tabbed browsing.
The keyboard will also change fully
They said we can type faster than swype with that.
Every icon changes.
It brings us never seen before clous services.
it improves the battery life very much.
the market app gets fully new look
they said its faster tjan froyo.
The camera app will contain options as an real camera.
The 3d app drawer will change and we can see a new one.
They also said that it improves security very much.
It has an in built antivirus and an task killar.
The best thing they had said to me is that these phones are pre rooted...lol
Thats all folks!
Do u like it reply
U can follow me on twitter @wiineeth
Awsome, but i hate web os so... Im not sure bout that
Things that make you go hmmm?
Seems interesting. Google still shooting for October?
Sent from the monkey on Steve Jobs' back!
You messed up at the end, Google will never add a task killer, Android already handles memory and tasks better than just about all other mobile OSes, why add something that will mess things up more than any good it could do?
Actually, I believe 2.1+ have a task killer built in, just the GUI is somewhat a pain and it isn't easily accessed (and completely unnecessary). The rest sorta makes sense, except the web os thing.. i don't know how web os is for use, never used one of those phones, but I'd venture a guess to say.. unlimited homescreens + looping? Maybe. I dunno.
It will also include a feature that automatically hacks all iPhones within 50 metres.
>> The icons will be in the shape of cuboid.
uuhh, I cannot imagine that that will look nice. Edged 3D- or bevelled- objects in GUI design are kind of outdated and unfashionable these days. I fear that google might over-do the GUI design by falling prey to showing off 3D effects.
I am a big fan of 3D effects but nonetheless hope that the new design won't be too edgy.
>> You can even change the notification bar colour.
lets hope that that includes setting alpha transparency. The mono-colored notification bar in the current Android OS cannot compete with the fresh look of the iOS4 notification bar.
Other than that, the feature list really looks delicious.
I hope that that come up with a lightning quick way of app switching. Perhaps even an option to always leave a ribbon of 20 pixels at the bottom of the screen holding the icons of the previously opened apps.
yes. something similar to the mac interface would be nice.
Any news about Gingerbread ? They said it will be unveiled in October..

I'm saying late November early December..
If this article has any weight to it, we could be looking at early 2011. Apparently LG is blaming delays in Google finishing the gingerbread source for their delays in the tablet.
It appears that the delay for LG's inaugural Android tablet device, which was originally planned for the fourth quarter of this year, might not be entirely LG's fault. A story out of Korea by Yonhap News Agency quotes two LG officials regarding the LG tablet delay, and hints that the source of the delay could very well be Google and the upcoming Gingerbread version of its Android smartphone OS.
Google had said in the past that the Gingerbread release of the OS was scheduled for late 2010, but we've heard some rummblings that it won't launch until 2011 now, possibly waiting for one of the large trade shows, such as CES or Mobile World Congress. An LG spokesperson said the following regarding the tablet, hinting at an external delay that could be Gingerbread:
"We want to make sure that the operating system is exactly suitable with our tablet. We have always said that the fourth quarter is our target, but we realized that the decision is not just up to us."
An anonymous quote attributed to an LG executive seems to back that up, saying "LG initially looked at Gingerbread [but] the timing for the release is uncertain." This seems to suggests that LG had planned to use Gingerbread from the start.
Google, for its part, has said quite directly that Android 2.2 Froyo is not designed for tablets. Considering that we've heard talk of delays for tablets coming from Acer and Motorola, as well, Gingerbread could be the common thread. Samsung, for its part, is using the widely deployed 2.2 Froyo release of Android.

Sorry, I'm not cool enough yet to link to the article, so I just pasted it in quote form. But it is listed as cite_note-53 on wikipedia's android os article.
Well the "faster than swype" typing is true as google recently acquired blind type. So, I guess we have a credible source. Good news!
Hopefully by November if we are lucky...
Is it 3G? and has the wifis?

Both seem plausible to me. It already has the task killer, and as the platform grows, viruses are inevitable. Already been a few "scares".
In fact, this whole list seems plausible to me, and nice. Browser also needs better syncing with desktop chrome.

Very nice, but i want some app like WP7 Calendar or WP7 Email
No doubt once the UI is finished those apps will be a lot easier to develop. I know the WP7 Android team has started on those.
I have checked out the demo, and it looks really good, once you have a beta version I would be happy to be a tester. I have a dhd un-rooted. This looks better than the wp7 ui already on the market.
Nice but I feel this still needs some work....
Okay i installed it.
Thought it would be a home replacement.
Is it going to be a home replacement, or a full rom?
where are you heading with this?
the stuff within the app all works as you cant do much with it.
if you could get a full winp7 ui working it would be nice. but at the current stage think we need a bit more information on what you are trying to achieve.
As mentioned above, I intend to make a library for developers to use to make applications with this Windows Phone 7 UI. This is only a DEMO of the UI, not a functional app. As far as a home replacement, possibly.
This is looking great keep up the good work, great to see some new devs here!
Hey it's now august first, you posted on your blog that a public release might happen today? Is this still possible?
Sorry, I removed that some time ago (perhaps your browser has cached it). I just have not had the time to work on the UI, and without a finalised API a public release would not make sense.
I see, can you give us an estimate time? Also as iammodo said a home replacement would be amazing, i'd be willing to pay 15$ plus for that.
I would love to but I have learned my lesson with anticipated dates. Android development is a hobby not a paying gig for me. As for a launcher, I would have loved to collaborate with the developer of Launcher7 but he declined. As I know nothing about launchers it. would be quite some time before I could ever release one. For now you have my Windows Phone 7 Calculator in the Android Market, and the notion that more is on the way.
I was never into it, but I'm sure some of you are. Enjoy.

ooo, been waiting for this. Cheers
I was excited for this but now I'm just mad. 7 dollars for an alpha? Steinkraft for. 99 cents has more features. And updates come daily adding something new mst of the time. I'm just shocked by the price an lack of awesomeness compared to something 6 dollars cheaper and developed bysomeone who hasn't already made a f**k load of money selling people an alpha.

As for someone who has never played minecraft, the price is a bit steep. I've been told that this version lacks many features that made the desktop counter part so great. I tried the free version myself and was impressed at how large the world is. It's very expansive and filled with different terrains.
Aside from that, the controls need work and having an open world where there really is nothing much to do but build can quickly become stagnant. I spent a whole hour building a tunnel going to nowhere and now that I look back, I kinda want it back.
I'll keep my eye on this and purchase at a later date when there is actually something to do.

Lol, that's the whole jist of Minecraft - you do whatever you want!
I haven't tried the mobile version, but from what I heard, this version is really behind the desktop version.

No survival, no mobs, no health - just exploring and building...
If these will be implemented, then it'll be great. Now it is just really a "demo"
It's alpha, and that kind of makes sense for why its so limited. That said, its probably been released for stability testing and to gather bug reports since its new to the platform. I note that the Desktop client for linux requires specifically SUN java, and knowing what we know about the chafing between Google Android and Oracle's new ownership of Sun Java, this may explain the slow development of Minecraft for Android. Perhaps the conversion to other java variants is a stumbling point.
Been building like crazy cuz I'm new to minecraft altogether, but it hasn't crashed on me evar. So I hope the features begin being added soon. I like it a lot so far.
I play minecraft a lot on my pc, so it was a bit strange to see the only building version of it. But i'm pretty sure it will be awesome once more features will be introduced. So for those that really havent played it, just hang on it's gonna be awesome!

With this release onto other Android devices, Mojang will start to focus on bringing more of the original Minecraft content found in the PC version over to the mobile version which includes Survival Mode. For those of you eager to get your hands on Minecraft: Pocket Edition's Survival Mode, it may be a little bit of a wait as Mojang needs to rebalance and tweak things before it will be released.
It makes sense that porting an entire PC title would take some time. However, it looks like they have a handle on things. It's just a patience/waiting game until they work everything out.
I tried this out. I like minecraft a lot, but I can't see playing this on a tablet. The controls are awful and the features are very limited.
It's great and I am enjoying it so much that I do not really care about Android! Does that make me strange or what?
Nope ! I have dual boot on mine, and never boot into Android ! I had a galaxy tab 10.1, was nice, but prefer webos

I had a Transformer and got rid of it when I got my touchpad. I love the webOS!
the only reason I am using Android on the TP is because there are no PDF notation apps available (like ezPDF reader or repligo). One other reason is a note taking software with handwriting capabilities such as freenote+.
other then these two I am mostly in webos. the biggest reason being the poor battery life in android at the moment.
I'm in the same category here. I have mine dual-booted, but rarely EVER boot to Android. In fact short of Netflix & maybe a couple other apps not available on the HP side, I LOVE webOS.....even to the tune of buying a couple little apps from HP that would've had a free counterpart for Android.
Mind you, I'm still waiting for video to be fixed to make the ICS jump, but still.....webOS is entirely underappreciated.

Dunno about PDF-notation, although I would think it's in Picsel Smart Office.
Handwriting apps are available on webOS. I currently use Doodle Pad. It's not feature-rich but not basic either. For 2,99 it's a great catch. Also, NuttyBunny is working on a feature-rich handwriting app. But there are a few more in the App Catalog, so that shouldn't be a problem.
I remember using my HTC Diamond and finally getting Android on it. Occasionally I had to boot back into windows mobile and I found the experience so disconcerting... Android seemed to just "behave" the way I wanted my phone to behave.
Now I feel the same way about WebOS. I boot into WebOS to use Skype and it feels like such a relief. I still use Android as my daily, but there is always a tinge of regret when I have to go back to Android.

to me this is still a problem. Doing just the basic of doodling is not enough for me. the apps available right now in webos are just that. and if you follow the Nuttybunny thread it apparently has been abandoned.
and there is no pdf notation in either of the office packages either.
still waiting...
I love it too
Sometimes I seat back and wonder why WebOs is so under appreciated, I think the media has a big part to play in its demise (or is it?). Safe for the lack of apps, my TP simply stunning and I can say this because, I have Ipad, Iphone, and Galaxy note. But I just can't bear to sell my TP. I still hope it will not be a souvenir.
I agree. I still use my Touchpad on a daily basis. It's much easier to use than an Asus tablet I have.
Check the webOSNation forums, there's a PDF markup app in alpha or beta right now.
Beyond that, I dualboot, but only to run Ubuntu. Ditched the Android partition a while ago. Much prefer webOS on a daily basis.
Sent from my very "non-stock" TP.
Love webOS but lack of apps
You're not strange for loving webOS. The interface is nothing short of beautiful and user friendly. The gestures make it that much better. I've got ICS loaded on mine and usually the only reason I spend more time in ICS is because of the apps.
When I registered my TP, I made the mistake of being honest and entering my actual location (Austria) when I opened the App Catalog. I don't know why, but I can't see any Paid apps and even the selection of free apps is pretty sad
But I've managed to get Kindle installed under webOS and Skype works a charm. I'm loving the fact I can use the TP as an oversized desk/speakerphone when I pair it with my DHD. The sounds quality in webOS is also pretty brilliant in comparison to ICS.
Like I said, if it weren't for the restriction on Apps for my region, I would be logged into webOS almost permanently.
Guess we all (webOS users) are sort of scattered under the current situation... And this forum is kind of small and generic
Let's get a picture of who is looking here for help.
Which webOS device do you have? (Note you can "vote" multiple times if you own more than one.)
How is it working?
webOS version?
Favorite tweaks?
How long have you been using webOS?
Do you do any development?
I've had my webOS phone about a month. I bought a used GSM Unlocked Pre 2 off eBay. It's running webOS 2.2.4.
I LOVE this device, am using it heavily and plan to continue to do so.
Preware is a must
UberKernel overclocking with the OnDemandTcl1200 profile + Govnah
Freetether
Lots of Top Bar patches and the Advanced Reset Options patch all make life easier
App Tuckerbox

I'm getting ready to install the SDK and will try my hand at some small things to see how far I can get.
webOS just works so nice. We all need to evangelize about it.
Just bought a palm pre 2 unlocked gsm from ebay us and shipped to Italy
played half a day with 2.1 and is very pretty, now is updating to 2.2.4, hope to see something cool!
I'm an android user and fan, but webos is beautiful!
Beware of the 2.2.4 update for the unlocked Pre2. I've had a total of 4 of these devices between myself and my wife and they've all suffered the same idiosyncrasy. For some unknown reason, after about a week of normal usage the sound for alerts vanishes requiring a soft reset. It doesn't matter if they have preware or any overclocking, a stock 2.2.4 has done this. It may be a minor irritation for some but not hearing an alert for an important email is a big thing to me.
Unless you're using your Pre2 for message sharing with a Touchpad, I strongly recommend keeping it at 2.1 until the guys at webosinternals figure out if there's a patch for this. I've jumped ship to Windows Phone 7.5 but I still keep an eye on the happenings at webOS because I love the UI. I still find myself swiping at my phone and feeling like an idiot.

Thanks, unfortunately finished updating before reading this...
The bad thing is that in 2.1 the google account sync wasnt working well, in 2.2.4 is flawless (as can i see by now).
The pre2 is my secondary phone, so i do not need it 365days a year but only when i go out for work.
Thank you anyway

I was one of the lucky firesale TP buyers and love the thing. I have installed CM9 on it so I could get some apps like Netflix but webOS is a beautiful thing.
I just received my Touchpad and rooted it to dual boot. I'm typing this from the Android side now, but I'm impressed with WebOS. I've worked on several Android tablets, but this is my first WebOS toy. Wish there were more apps, but what a nice screen!

I've noticed that even the hard-core Android fans love webOS once they get to know it. The sad fact is that even with HP's mishandling (I'm really trying to be civil), i don't see how webOS could have survived. The lack of apps was a mortal wound that couldn't be closed. Just look at all the comments and they sound like a scratched record, "loved the UI but needed this app or that so I loaded CM9. But use webOS most of the time". UGHHH! End of rant.
I really hope that the opensourcing can give webos a second chance.
As an android fan i must admit, android can learn very much from webos... in te days of the selling of palm, i really hoped google would buy it...
US GSM Unlocked Pre 2
Works great - secondhand too
2.2.4
Quite a bit
9-ish months, iOS for a year before that, and PalmOS for several years before iOS.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think webOS's fate as a stand-alone OS has been sealed. My honest opinion is that what we know as webOS today will live on as a major redux of Android. It's already showing up in the form of modified Enyo apps on ICS and a modified version of touch-to-share. Being Linux-based will make it easier to incorporate the best features into Android now that the source code is being released. I still follow the threads here and on WebOS Nation because I really miss webOS but the lack of development and sub-par hardware makes it impossible for me continue with it. My work requires certain apps that webOS simply doesn't have and that's such a shame. Us old dinosaurs (yeah, I've been through a mid-life crisis and a heart attack so I qualify) are very resistant to change but there's nothing wrong with keeping up with new technologies.
The first is palm pre plus, second palm pre2, now htc hd2
Pre- & TouchPad
My pre is retired and used as a media player on webOS 2.1 30% of the time, it works every time lol. It's really showing it's age but I keep it going because I just can't seem to find a capable media player on Android that will pass media metadata to my receiver as well as webOS 2.1
TouchPad is stock and fantastic the way it is, no problems.
I own a HP Pre3 running 2.2.4, bought it on ebay.
I'm using Advanced Device Menu tweaks and some browser tweaks.
Didn't get into developing now, may I try to get into it when I get more time.
What I still miss is a onscreen keyboard. Having that and maybe a few more apps, webOS would be THE KILLER OS.
I just have the touchpad
I can't add votes to the poll
I just picked up a pair of Veers (one black, one white). Can't wait. They should be here early next week. I get to practice Dogbert's Unlock method and then figure out how to use Impostah to put a profile on them without wiping my Pre 2 so I can test drive them.
Another dinosaur here
I never got into the smart phone thing so I missed out on the pre and pre plus rush. I'm still looking for a pre plus or pre2 but have 2 touchpads. While there are advantages to android with the many apps out there, I continue to operate with webOS on the touchpad. I am a purchasing officer for an export corporation and use my touchpad daily for the business. The thing I don't understand is the common rant from folks who say that their webOS device is useless without android. What apps do you (really) need that are not available within the webOS or preware market? I find that everything I need to operate my business is available within the webOS community. My touchpad allows me to be productive in the field. I do not have android installed on my touchpad. My wife had classicnerd android on hers but that's for the games.
I have had to use a few work arounds for issues like a lack of camera but otherwise, the touchpad performs very well for my business needs. Yes, I could do more with an iPad or another (pure) android tablet but would be required to spend a great deal of cash for a minimal return.
Those of you who really want to be productive, tell me what app you find in android that you can't find a webOS equivalent for. Chances are that you could be surprised.
just sayin........
