Thanks for your time.

My related question is, what makes it sound better and why can't he work for Google to get this for all phones?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

I'm running the Netarchy 1.1 kernel with the standard Nexus S 2.3.2 rom.
Sound quality is awesome. Worth rooting just for this.

Is this the same thing as this? I'm wary of just installing some random file without much information.

You shouldn't need this. If your sig is correct and you still have CM7 use the DSPManager app. It can boost volume for speaker and through headset. I set all my eq. settings to 6.1 and it is loud and not distorted at all.

I'm on CM7 and this works beautifully (I've only tried it for external speaker) on setting 6+. Loud as hell with no distortion!
Volume+ is definitely a trusted app from an awesome developer "Meltus". He's the same one that released the app "Louder volume hack" ages ago. I've used his volume apps since back on my MT3G .
His free app is here if you guys want to read up on it first.
Thank you. Works great on RCMix HD v5.9.7.

What kernel are you using? I'm using this app with Lordmod 4.2 CFS -25mv undervolt, no problems reported here.
I personally notice distortion once I get to about +3 or +4 on my device. I keep it set to +2 and everything sounds great. It even seems to save the settings and re-apply on boot, great stuff!

Voodoo Sound?

I am interested in buying this device, but only if it has support for Voodoo Sound. I heard that voodoo louder is supported with gary's kernel, so is it possible for voodoo sound to become available for this device?
It is supported on this device, I use it all the time.

Thanks for the reply. That's good to hear. I was worried because some people said that the galaxy tab plus has a yamaha dac instead of wolfson. Do you need a custom kernel to get it to work?
No custom kernel needed, works fine on the stock one.

It has a yamaha dac, not a wolfsen. Voodoo Sound will NEVER be compatible with this device. Voodoo louder however, is compatible. No custom kernel needed, just root. I'd still recommend getting it however, it's a great tablet.
Sorry, I guess I read your question to quickly. I thought you were asking about Voodoo Louder.

Voodoo Sound is an app that greatly enhances the audio capabilities of devices with the Wolfsen DAC. It adds bass enhancements and amplifies the output to headphones. Really a great app, and a must have for Wolfsen DAC devices(original Galaxy S, etc..)
Voodoo Louder is an app that is for devices with the Yamaha DAC, pretty much just a headphone amplifier, no bass improvements. Not nearly as great as Voodoo Sound, but still nice to have.
Root is required to use both apps.

[Q] Louder Speaker Volume?

Hi,
I flashed a loudness patch on Galaxy Nexus and it works great, I wonder if there's something similar available for Nexus S? I searched the forums but couldn't find anything.
People suggest Volume+ but it doesn't work on Jellybean, Voodoo I already have but its only for headphones, not speakers.
Thanks!

Make sure you didn't tick the option called "tune speaker for music" in voodoo. That makes the phone less loud. If you're watching video and it's not loud enough go for MX player with software sound decoder. You can tune up the volume by 100%. Hope I helped.

[Request] Volume Hack

I'm not sure how hard this is but I've noticed that the speaker volume isn't very loud. If anybody knows how to get a volume hack or needs some help, I'd be willing to offer my time. Thanks in advance for your response.

Same here. I would be very happy if some kernel will resolve this problem. Otherwise, phone is super. Just speaker when talking ... and maybe not so good buttons. :good:

Definetly a NO to this on.
Using a active speaker at work which resets its volume to a base volume everytime you enable it.
The speaker is on par with a Galaxy Note 1 which I have just retired.
I´d even say its louder....but possibly that is because of faux kernel....try this...
You can install this kernel...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=250965
Then install FauxSound from the PlayStore, you can up the speaker gain a decent amount. It's nothing drastic, but I've got it loud enough for me now.

+1. Came here to say this. FauxSound works excellent. If you don't want to / can't afford to pay for the app, trickster mod works fine.
But if you can, support your local dev!

So you're saying using the stable faux kernel and the latest version of Fauxsound, sound modifications are working for you on the nexus 5?

edit: can't speak for stable kernel, but their is nothing in the changelog for the beta about fauxsound, so I can only assume the stable includes it.

Fauxsound needs an update. Faux123 should have it out shortly. It works fine except for the fact that settings are reverted to stock upon reboot. Little annoying but faux is great at keeping his kernels and a ops up to date and fully functional.

it works fine. I can adjust it up and down with music playing and hear the adjustments. I don't care about next sticking between reboots, as I don't reboot multiple times a day
edit: verified. working fine

sound quality?

I'm looking at buying a nexus 5,what is the sound quality like through some decent quality headphones?
thanks
sent from my AOSP 4.3 Xperia S via Tapatalk
The sound quality is very good, but the headphone amplifier is pretty weak. It can barely drive my Koss PortaPros, which are pretty efficient. I also have to turn the volume up much louder in my car, compared to my Galaxy Nexus or iPod.
Speaker is poor
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium HD app
This is the exact truth. Why the headphone amp is so weak in 2013 is a question I'd like answered since I usually get rid of a phone with weak output. Fortunately I still have my iPhone
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
he's a short sample I made with the Nexus 5, boosted +5 with faux kernel and comparing to the Nexus 7 2013. Sure it's always a bit hard to compare the sound over a video but still, maybe it help you

I tried this mod on my Nexus 5 and it works AMAZING to boost the headphone volume. It is finally usable!
[MOD] Headphone and Speaker Volume Boost for the Nexus 5
I only did the mod for headphones as the mod that also boosted the speaker seemed to degrade the quality a bit, and I thought it sounded good enough as it was.

you have to flash a custom kernel that supports the boost which you can than adjust with apps like trickster mod.
2 kernel are capable so far, faux and elementalx. I would recommend elementalx because it has some extra options like sweep2wake and doubletap2wake and color calibration
