Early upgrade price? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am about to be eligible for early upgrade price... (one year still left on contract)
Will I still get a discount? If so what price am I looking at?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Best Buy does not do early upgrades and requires you to be fully eligible. T-Mobile will agree with you that you are indeed eligible, due to their new upgrade policy; however Best Buy's system will not recognize you as eligible. There is no way around this unless you have a line that's up for a full upgrade. Full upgrade = $199 + $18(upgrade fee)+(sales tax) for the Nexus S.

On a semi-related note since you've answered the primary question, what is this early upgrade policy? I haven't heard anything about this before.

=O I switched to Sprint to get that!!! How come they don't advertise this more?! I assume the early upgrade price isn't quite as cheap as the full upgrade, but that is definitely something I can deal with...being on the cutting edge is how I get my jollies >< (that was a joke, sorry if it was offensive lol)

Non- Commitment pricing.

Anyone know what the price is going to be without contract?
I contacted an AT&T retail store and they didn't really know, but had read that Samsung posted $350 dollars on facebook. That seems low to me.
I haven't seen any pricing for non-commitment anywhere. Thanks!
+1
I would also want to know, because I'm planning on buying it with no contract.

OMG if this is the price for the phone I am definitely getting this phone off contract and using my upgrade for another phone aka iPhone 4 to sell for a profit!!!!!!!!!!

$700+ on ebay!!!!!
I had my iPhone 4 since it came out (16 gb) and used it the whole time.
I just put it on craigslist and sold it for 600 in less than a day.
Now, I have money for the captivate!!!
What kind of fees would AT&T charge you for the switch? If it really is $350, I'll do the same
Yes! The price is $350 without contract! That's very nice, I'll check tomorrow my local AT&T store to see if they have any in stock already as some people already bought it.
I'd love to go get one tomorrow, but I go to an authorized retailer and there is one person in particular that I deal with. She's always treated me well, and they are a lot nicer than AT&T retail stores. She is out of town until monday I guess I'll be waiting for my phone 'til then.
The one thing I know nothing about is how to load custom roms, as this is my first open source phone! (first had symbian, then iOS) I am excited to see what else is out there.
If its only $350. I'll be buying this Phone off Contract ASAP.
Even tought i wanted an HTC or Motorola. Device ie nexus one, desire. This will do, since my G1 keeps overheating and is on its last legs.
There's people been buying them since yesterday for $350 off contract, so the pricing is real.
wow $350?!...hard to believe really when the tmo version is $499.

wait and see 3 more days...
I just returned from AT&T here they let me handle the phone. He showed me the price of the off contract phone as $300.00. He was shocked, but it was right there in living color. They will sell me one this Saturday morning. I will be there.

If this pricing is the same here in Arizona Ill be posting my HD2 for sale, use that money to buy a Captivate, and use my phone upgrade for an Iphone4, turn around and sell that beast as well.. Should come out wayyyyyyyyyyyy on top. Good god what a good deal. Thank you AT&T for getting something right.
Good luck to all who seem to be going down this cash flow road. Wooooop!
@willthebill - I am surprised that the Captivate is going to be 350 when the one for t-mobile is 500 as well! I am quite excited about it!

XDA I have news for you!

So I've been tweaking out about this damn phone and finally called Best Buy. I was told very firmly "Pre-orders are being accepted tomorrow (Sunday) for $50, first come first serve, and the phone is scheduled to be released on Valentines Day".
No bull****, I didn't have to play dumb, just simply asked if I could come in and buy the Thunderbolt tomorrow.
So Best Buy is clearly rolling hard on their own with this phone while VZW is hush hush. Clearly it's possible it could be pushed back, but at the very least pre orders will be starting tomorrow. Which is pretty dope.
See y'all at Best Buy.
once pre-orders start at best buy products typicaly launch soon.
also this is old news

"First come, first serve" - Makes no sense on a pre-order. Your not getting anything tomorrow...they are PRE ordering yours. So, you definitely will get one if you pre-order.
I think they only can receive a certain amount of them so it seems to make sense.

first come first serve as in pre-orders get priority in getting the phone, and they won't hold a pre-order sale for you

Eh, I'm waiting till Verizon has it, i asked BestBuy if they did 1 year contracts or full retail price if you can't upgrade and the answer to both was nope.
i did confirm though that they do have accessories already on sale, like the ones leaked on AndroidCentral by Platinum Series (aka Seidio)
also, don't go by any handset reviews until after HTC's MWC event, i have a feeling some features are hidden to preview blogs until its announced, namely the Htcsense.com features which are currently not working on preview handsets. Pocketnow seems to be having similiar problems with the Inspire 4G saying that it doesn't have access to download anything from the website hub. i think its because:
1. The website isn't fully launched yet nor does it have either of these phones as supported phones on the website, Yet.
2. HTC is likely to launch the new website on the 13th, the same date as the launch of Inspire and there event at MWC where its likely they'll announce new features for the website too (one can only dream anyway, if you recall the teasers in December early November they were touting regarding music and video support via the cloud, aka Htcsense.com which was later confirmed as an upcoming feature. and with Verizon touting media playback as a feature for LTE handsets, alongside of Netflix and other media features via LTE.
We can only hope that the launch event is soon and that the Thunderbolt gets a proper launch, they screwed up on the Droid Incredible launch and didn't support it at all, so i hope since this being there first 4G phone that we'll see huge support from Verizon and third parties.

thats good to know, although when i even asked them if Verizon will be getting it too or if it'll be an exclusive (just for kicks) they answered "to be honest, i don't know for sure at this point but so far yes its an exclusive" and they also added that "even with Verizon i know that some of there upcoming handsets they won't allow you to get a 1 year contract" lol can you see through that bunch of bull or is there not enough two-ply to wipe it away, i never was a fan of bestbuy's salespeople, they lie through there asses just to get a sale.
does anyone know if you can put down more than $50 towards the purchase if your going to be paying full retail?

Yes but you will be given two giftcards, because the first can only be pre-loaded with 50 dollars with the sku they scan.
Also most all phones can be sold outright. But during a phones initial launch best buy reserves the right to sell phones only to customers do upgrades/new activations. That's why I told people to confirm with the store they bought from as if they can buy it out right.

High resale price - why?

I just observed used Nexus 5 being sold for about $35 less than new within countries which have plenty of stock. Is this the "one born every minute" or something else?
example of used $350
and example of new $385
With OnePlus out in a few weeks for $349 plus unknown on tax and postage, and a few other low-priced unlocked handsets out there, I'm puzzled why Nexus 5 is holding its used price, and its coming under attack on its new price.
Because it's a great phone. Oneplus one may be too big for some. Plus it's a true developers phone. No one knows what the oneplus one sources / blobs for drivers will be like...

But that wasn't my question, i don't understand why someone would buy used for 90% of new? It's not like stock is hard to get new.

90% is cheaper than 100%. Not everyone is as fortunate as you to be able to pay 100%
"but it's only $35"
Someone could feed themselves for a week on that. Don't make the mistake of confusing being frugal with being dumb, or that everyone is the same as you

If they're starving they can do with a cheaper Nexus 4 for months.
Warranty is part of frugality, if my new N5 breaks I got some postage costs probably, but I'm less exposed financially than I am with used.
Well luckily for them, it's not your decision what they do with their money
Some people don't care about warranty. Some people know how to use warranty. It's not a problem for them, it's not a problem for you so don't worry yourself about people being "dumb". If you're asking "why isn't everyone like me?", well that's a philosophical question, probably better angled towards facebook

Because the phone is worth a lot more than $350 to most people. Similar phones cost $700 and the Oneplus isn't even being sold really.
Also countries that don't have the Play Store devices, their only choice is to buy them second hand and they are willing to pay as much as the retail cost.
One word answer: demand.

Those living in other countries buy our used phones. $350 for a used N5 is still half the price they would pay for a new phone in their country.
Anyone living in North America can buy the phone for $350 new and have no incentive to buy it used for that price.

What makes you think people in the US are buying them used for more than they cost new? I would just assume they are all out of seas, but there is no real way of telling. Or is there?
If they are, they must not realize they can buy it new for the same price from Google. Or perhaps they are attempting a scam of some sort.

Thought I had replied to this thread. Weird.
Any way, Best Buy is sometimes known to throw a page up with an inflated price until they get the official price for it. I'm hoping that's the case this time too. Especially since Sprint doesn't even have a page for this phone that I can find let alone a price.
Otherwise, $900 is way too much for this phone and I won't be getting it. Even $800 is a bit much.

Yeah I think they did this with the LG G5 too before that was released earlier this year. Also, Sprint is going to be doing a promotion where you can trade in any smartphone with mopre than 10$ in trade in value for 200$ in credit, although that might only be for if you get the phone in an easy pay or lease option and not a full buyout thing.
I am waiting on T-Mobile for their page to go live for pre-order. If the price is that same as on the other carriers, I will have to stick with my V10 or try out the Axon 7 til the price drops below $650.
Also, if the carrier doesn't offer the B&O headphones ... I will have to pass.

It is already confirmed that LG is offering pre-orders in the US a pair of the H3's. As far as I can tell, they haven't really excluded any major carriers on the offer. Not sure if those who don't pre-order will get them or not. I assume "quantities are limited". So you either have to bite the bullet and get in on the pre-order if the headphones are important to you or wait for the price to drop and forgo them if price is more important. Hopefully the price won't be so bad though. I have heard Tmo pre-orders could open on the 12th (already passed though), 14th, 17th or 20th.

Well, we don't have an actual MSRP from any other carrier yet besides AT&T. There's still a slight chance that the other carriers could undercut AT&T. Hopefully. The only place I hear about QA/QC problems with LG is in hardcore Android forums and it only really seems to be a few very vocal people. Certainly, I'll keep my eyes open but I'm willing to ride the odds in favor of no issues. But if Sprint can't put the phone in with the rest of their phones when they have the iPhone plastered everywhere on their site, they'll never sell it then wonder why. Then again, having met the Sprint CEO in the very bar I'm sitting in right now, I'm not surprised. Doesn't seem any carrier is really trying all that hard though. AT&T has their demo model off in another corner away from the other LG phones in the stores I visited. T-Mobile has it listed on their site with the other LG phones but that's about all of the exposure it gets from them at the moment. The reps are definitely psyched for this phone though.

Actually, the Best Buy site now shows 24 months for $30 which is $720. It also shows free BO headphones and a $200 BB gift card for any qualifying, working, non screen damaged phone.

Samsung Upgrade Program

Hi everyone,
Did anyone else Pre order on the upgrade program? Also random question but if anyone has been on the program before do you know if you receive any letters?
I did ask and they said it's paperless but just wanted to confirm!
Looking forward to Thursday now!
Thanks
I've pre-ordered on the Upgrade programme. I haven't received any letters or anything yet, though the finance agreement stuff definitely said that they would send me something and that my 14 day cancellation period would begin the day I received my paperwork. Never even thought to ask about it though to be honest.
I am also on the Upgrade programme all transactions have been by email no paperwork through the post. Hoping to hear something on Wednesday about dispatching details (UK)
On a Side note I tried to get a Gear VR headset for free from Samsung but they sent me a email saying it was only free for US customers:crying::crying:
Oh was you on it last year? I've just joined
Was worried that I'd get letters in the post about signing up and my family seeing the cost of the phone lol!

Did Samsung even do an Upgrade Program last year? I don't recall seeing them doing it before this.

im on it as well, and yes the paperwork is all electronic
Wished they had one for the US since I rather give them my money than the carriers.
Yeah I was gonna buy outright but then decided not much point. Shame it doesn't come with free insurance though like the apple one

Yeah the upgrade program only works out about £70 more expensive over the course of the full 2 years than just buying outright. The difference is you get a new phone every 1 year.
I guess the downside is having to give the old phone back rather than having it to sell or keep as a backup.
Insurance wise I did get an option when ordering to take out 12 months of Samsung Lite insurance for £99, but it seemed to exclude almost everything like loss/theft that you actually buy these insurances for. I'll probably take out third party insurance for it or something.
I didn't hear about this before can I get that in Ireland?
dont see the option yet

Maybe we have to use the UK site from Ireland. I have my S8 Plus orchid grey ordered from Carphone warehouse Ireland.
