if I turned off background data sync will affect c2dm function?
Because I use whatsapp frequently and im concerned about battery life and I noticed that turning off background data really saves battery life.
Thanks

I just purchased the HTC Sensation (first time android owner, was a long-time BB owner). For those who have been using android for quite some time, what is the best battery app in your opinion and why?
So, far I have heard of "Battery Life" and "JuiceDefender"
On the side note, this phone is awesome compared to my previous blackberry. I just need to learn how to prolong my daily battery life.
Battery Saver
Hi, Ive tried both of those and to be honest I wouldn't recommend them. A better solution is to work out what you want from your smartphone, is it constant data connection with widgets updating, things syncing and a nice bright screen?
If it is then all that comes at the expense of battery life and no app will change that. However if you are willing to lose your data connection overnight and at certain points during the day and ready to ditch widgets or at least reduce their polling frequency serious battery savings can be made.
Timeriffic is a great app that can be used to create daily schedules that configure what your phone is doing. You can set screen brightness, data connection as well as notification settings to change to match your day.
P.S Menu - Settings - Accounts & Sync and turn off the crap!
thanks mwnciflewog. I appreciate the tip.
I'm almost brand new to flashing kernels and other things to my Android device so I have a question.
I'm on I9020T's official ota version of ICS on my I9020A with the AT&T radio flashed. The battery life has been very poor and I have stumbled across the Glados 2.1 kernel.
Now, my question is, after I flash this, are there any apps that need to be installed or will I start to see battery improvement immediately?
Thanks.
Battery life does not rest on the kernel. Although many kernels boast improved battery life, performance and features (which is almost entirely true), my money says you have different problems going on. No apps need to be installed, but NSTools will give you access to just about all of the extra features.
Describe how your battery life is at the moment so we can help you more, since i assume this is the main issue here.
I charged my phone to full (around 96% or so is the max I think) and looking at the battery stats, it has been on battery for 1h 31m and is now at 86%. And this was with almost zero use. I made one Google Wallet purchase and that's really it.
battery has always been a problem to nexus..switch your 3g to 2g when not in use should help the battery...
Could you also describe what kind of settings you have (email syncing, autosync, talk, wifi, data, etc). Email, for example, uses data and holds a wakelock every so many minutes. With a slow network this could cause the phone to be awake for enough time to noticeably drain the battery. GMail, on the other hand, uses Push Notifications and doesn't use any battery at all - google will contact you when you receive an Email and only then notify you.
It's not extreme drain so it is probably some kind of syncing, or maybe a wifi wakelock or something. Steady, faster-than-normal drain while phone should be sleeping. Better Battery Stats (can be found on XDA) may shed some light if something is keeping the phone awake for noticeable time periods.

I don't use Gmail since I have two email accounts that I want to access. I have the Email app refreshing every hour. I don't sync anything else, I have all Google sync turned off except Calendar.
Hello, i have a question about Battery Apps:
I have turned my brightness low, turned of Wif and disabled bluetooth, when not using, shut down many services and disabled apps, disabled location, and account sync services.
Now i have a question about these two Battery Saving Apps
Easy Battery Saver
2Easy Team
and
JuiceDefender - battery saver
Latedroid
]
1) Which one do you use? or "Other" Please State
2) Would it be better to Use them BOTH or only use one?
Thank You
If you "turned my brightness low, turned of Wif and disabled bluetooth, when not using, shut down many services and disabled apps, disabled location, and account sync services", you don't need any battery apps because that's all they basically do - but in 1 tap instead of 10.
1. I don't use any because I need all those features that they turn off to save battery
2. Use only 1 because they all basically do the same things.

Like mentioned earlier, you don't need any battery saving app if you're already taking precautionary measures. Those apps are primarily aimed for the less technologically inclined individuals that know nothing about simple battery saving techniques. Running one or both might actually be detrimental to your battery life as they require processing power

I wouldn't bother with any of those apps. It's not hard to manage yourself. Remember that 3G eats battery when searching for a signal, 2G eats less, GPS only really eats battery when enabled by an app like Maps, and wifi eats a bit of battery when searching for a signal.
How long do you get from a charge - I just stick mine onto the charger every night although I can get 20+ hours from a charge with reasonable use.
In my experience Juice Defender is useless. I use advanced task killer to close apps from the background, but otherwise there is not much that you can do.
Hi guys
I'm a BlackBerry user of ten years and have recently moved over to Android (with some regret).
I know Android is great for customising, so my quest now is to find out how to control individual apps from running too much data - I know of the "Restrict Background Data" option, but is there a way to be more granular and control which apps use data on Wi-Fi and on Mobile Data?
And on that, to reduce battery consumption, is there a way to control the interval frequency with which apps synchronise? For example, Sunrise, Gmail, Inbox, Google Keep - if they're all polling and synchronising regularly, I'm sure that uses up my data and my battery a lot faster. Is there a way to tell them "only poll manually" etc.?
Hi, you can go to settings>battery turn on the battery saver and see what apps or features consumes the most of your battery, analyse them and take action according to that by removing, synchronizing or stop particular apps.
I've notice on most my android devices that if you set mobile data and wifi to off, the battery usage decreases dramatically !!
Especially when you're not using your phone (screen off).
I deduced that the main battery drainage comes from applications which poll the network frequently. Is there a way, on a non-rooted phone, to know which applications are doing that ?
I've tried installing Doze (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yirgalab.dzzz) but it doesn't seem to have much effect.
Also is there a way to tune polling frequency if it's not in the app settings ? Probably not but I ask just in case because I don't really care if I've got a facebook notification one hour later ...
I ended up uninstaling facebook (replaced by metal where you can tune the polling rate), fb messenger, whatsapp, skype and hangouts, and now it works like it should. But I'm kind of cutoff from the world now which isn't very good for a "communication device"
If you guys know any replacements for those apps, I'd be grateful.
I also tried to create a task for tasker to switch off wifi and mobile data when screen is off but with no success
