[Q] [APP] Beluga - Android Apps and Games

I was searching through the market last night and I found a new messaging (bbm replacement) app called Beluga.
Is anyone else using this thing? The interface is pretty slick and it seems to integrate your location into your messages which could be useful for planning a meeting.
The problem with all these messenger replacement apps is that there are too many of them. We just need one to hit critical mass.
I'm curious what everyone thinks of these "bbm" apps. Is anyone actually using them or is everyone still just texting?

I;m using whatsapp..
kinda curious about these beluga though.. have u tried it?

Droidbook

Hello, I am currently working on a app called Droidbook. Why? Basically I was tired of getting 1,000 email notifications from facebook but I wanted to be notified, I was tired of filtering my the facebook email notifications, I was tired of not getting a sexy little task bar notification ( I know I know, use bloo), most of all I grew tired of all the other OS's having a fully working facebook app. So heres my shot at it, but please. What would you like to see in this app?
very interested in this.
i have the same complaints with all the email notifications.

[Q] Text to Speech (TTS) and Emails

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the Android to read my emails to me?
I've tried using both Gmail, and the mail application and can't get it to use Text To Speech.
Is this something that needs the application to be specifically designed for TTS, and if so are their any applications around that support it. (Although I find it hard to believe that Google's own flagship mail apps don't.. but I've been known to be wrong before... or so my wife tells me)
Cheers
Adza

[Q] No more : Sent via Facebook for Android ?

Hi there,
Before, when I updated my status from my phone it said: ... From Facebook for Android
But now it says: From Facebook mobile =( !
Same thing for iPhone.
What's going on with Facebook "?
It sucks, now people wont know if you're using a smart phone or not.
Does it matter?
I noticed they recently stopped sending me notification emails when something happens. They sent me an email saying I was going to get less of them but I didnt read it. I dont like not getting notification emails because im not on facebook everyday and I like being notified if something happens. Point being it looks like theyre making a lot of changes recently.
Still says 'BlackBerry' at present - whether that changes or not who knows. Doesn't really matter, though

If you read that email it would say that you can go to the website and re-enable those email notifications.

[Q] Group SMS

So on my iphone I could have group conversations with 3 other people and it would all be in the same conversation window, I but now, on my one x, when I try this it just sends to everyone individually. It works on my friends droid because he has the verizon messaging app which isn't available to att users (I think)
anyways I was just wondering if there was a simple solution to this (I've tried two 3rd party messaging apps with no luck)
Yeah, you're not gonna be able to get that, AFAIK. The "WhatsApp Messenger" app does this, but that's not actual text messaging, it's an IM app that uses your contacts phone numbers to identify them, and can only message other WhatsApp users.
Just for my own curiosity, when you would do this with your iPhone, would all the other participants be iPhone users? Or would it be a mixed bag of BB/Android/WP7/iPhone?
You should check out the app 'GroupMe'.
Great app that can do either real texting or over the internet messages.
The catch is, you have to message a 'Group number' and GroupMe then forwards that message on to everyone else.
This enables you to add/remove people to a conversation.
You can make these numbers private or public
I'm pretty sure they support every os and you can also just use their website to send messages.
It's all free which is the best part.
This is one of my biggest gripes with Android ICS. My Galaxy Nexus wasn't able to do group SMS either and, coming from an iPhone where I had lots of groups, it's a pain in the ass.
Also, using 3rd party apps that require every other person you want to chat with to also have the app is not a real solution. GroupMe is even worse than the rest b/c if someone EVER had the app (and no longer does) it doesn't recognize that and just doesn't deliver the message at all.

The awesome thing about GroupMe is you don't need the App at all. You can use their service purely through texting.

You didn't read what I wrote. If someone EVER had the app and got rid of it then the app doesn't recognize that and simply doesn't deliver the message at all. This is even worse than simply not being able to message people who don't have the app b/c now the sender has no clue whether their messages were delivered to each recipient.

If I am not mistaken, If the user changed his settings through the web interface he could set it up to be texting only again.
I have never ran in to this issue personally. When I removed the App from my phone I would still get the messages, just not through texts until I switched the settings.
Sorry for not fully understanding the first time.

Text Message Effects?

I was texting with my daughter last night (we both have android phones using the Android Messages app) and when she sent one message to me it came through as "Ok (sent with slamming effect)". Normally I would only see that if someone with an iPhone sent me the message using one of those effects, but not from another Android phone. Sounds like Google might be preparing the Messages app to have these effects too? My daughter has no clue how she got it to do that. Anyone else see this before?
