1. Is there any app that allows using the volume down button to turn on the screen instead of the power button? The few that I've tried don't work.
2. I don't like how the 4 bottom buttons don't always stay lit up when the screen is on. They go off fairly quickly and I can no longer see the buttons when I'm in a dark room. My old phones buttons stayed lit up as long as the screen was on.
Thanks for any help.
That's some good questions.
The second one drives me crazy. Sometimes.

I'd be interested in both of those things as well. Coming from a MT3G I'm still getting used to the power button on the top. For as large as the phone is, and being left handed, it is pretty awkward to hit the power button then slide to unlock without having to readjust my hold on it or use 2 hands.
Also, it does get pretty annoying when the lights turn off and I want to hit a button. Sometimes I'll try to go back a page in the browser and I'll just hit Home instead.... just something that dims it to a very very low light would work, or kept it at that same low light all the time. Those are pretty damn bright, and I dont see a reason for them being so bright.
Yesterday, I was watching netflix, when out of the blue my xoom screen went really dark. At first I thought it froze up/randomly shut off, so I did the power+up vol reset, and it rebooted, but the Motorola logo was so dark I could hardly see it. It would still boot up just fine, but everything was so faded that I had to hover right over the screen and squint in order to see it. I was able to navigate around a little bit, till the screen went totally blank(on, but black).
I tried playing with it just a couple minutes ago but it wont turn on, which hopefully means the battery finally died so I can recharge it to see if that makes any difference(I dont think it will, but crossing my fingers anyways).
Now..I'm THINKING this is a hardware issue because even in recovery, the screen was still super super faded. I've restarted it since the screen went totally blank, and Its got nothing now. My rom I'm using was a Team EOS nightly, I think from some time last month, and I have a Canadian market wifi xoom.
P.S. The power button will still turn the screen on and off..and after the screen went black It still made the 14% battery left noise.
Any suggestions at all!? As appealing as the Nexus 7 is..I like my xoom..and I dont feel like spending money on another tablet when i've only had this one since last April.
TL;DR My xoom screen went so dark the colors were pretty much non existent, and the screen was still super faded in recovery/during the boot sequence. Now it only responds to the power button some of the time, and will reset(I'm assuming)when I hold UP VOL+Power. I'm using an older EOS Nightly, and This happened out of the blue with only a slight over clock.
Screen being super dark is usually the back light. Sorry I can't help.
Unfortunately sounds like your LCD back light is broken. So what you're going to have to do is replace the whole LCD screen on the XOOM which can cost quite a bit. Good luck!
Shameless selfbump, but interesting thing is the backlight comes on, just nothing shows up. Did the xoom just manage to brick itself in the middle of a movie on netflix? Also, If I plug the xoom into my computer, the prompt pops up almost immediately showing all the stuff that is ON the xoom. Thoughts?
My phone literally just started acting up.
First, there were some glitching and portrait/landscaping issues.
Second, the hardware keys (power button, trackpad button, the buttons at the bottom of the front of the phone, the camera button, and the volume buttons) stopped working.
Third, the proximity light and the trackpad light (both appear as red dots on the phone) started appearing. Every time I tried to reboot my phone, no splash screen comes up, and if it does it appears later than usual. There are times the phone would work and it would give me no problems until maybe after 5 minutes of usage.
I changed battery twice, and this happens with both batteries. My micro-usb hub broke last week so I cannot do any hardware key hacks or reflashes. Even CWM doesn't let the hardware keys work. I'm pretty much lucked out and I might go get a Nexus 4 when it comes out.
Goodbye MT4GS. You were a great phone.
You should join us with the Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G lol... it is basically the upgrade to the MT4GS - S4 processor, more RAM, slightly weaker camera though... already have root and custom recovery, and Korny has booting CM already (just don't ask for an ETA lol). Just a thought!

It is so funny, as two drops of water - SAME IN ALL
Hi,
I have this really weird stuff going on with my Nexus 5 screen. I cracked it a couple months ago and bought a legit replacement screen for it and installed it myself (glass, lcd and frame). I fixed it with good instructions and it worked properly for two months. However though, now when I take it out of a pocket and try to turn screen on, sometimes it just doesn't light up. It's still on and every button works but the screen doesn't turn on. I have to give it a light tap or two on the back in order to make it light up again. Same thing happens sometimes when I'm using the phone normally, the screen just goes black and goes on after tapping it couple of times. Otherwise the phone works normally like it did when I bought it two years ago and after running couple of tests with screen, everything seems to work from touch interface to the graphics card.
Tried looking it up, no results.
I've noticed that the front camera doesn't work for some reason (probably just broken) and the battery lasts in use only 2-4 hours which isn't that much of an issue since I'm looking for a new phone. I just want this one to last long enough till I buy a new one.
It comes up when tapping the screen or power button? It could be a power button issue.
The screen comes back on when tapping the screen or the back of the phone. The power button isn't the issue. The screen just goes black but nothing else happens. It doesn't turn off or go to sleep mode.
Strange issue. I've never experienced it and any problems I had were related to the power button.
Could it be a loose connection inside the phone? Maybe an issue related to the proximity sensor?
Thats actually what I've thought. I have checked the phone's insides twice and didn't see loose connections, and the problem feels like it's related to proximity sensor since the screen going black happens exactly same way that when calling someone or doing something else where proximity sensor shuts the screen. It's really weird though...
Huh, I took backplate off and unscrewed the motherboard cover and took everything apart and rebuilt it and now the problem is gone. Seems like there was just some bad connection somewhere.
Glad you got it to work without having to pay someone to fix it
Was hanging on for the Pixel 2 but my Mate 9 broke so got this, Love the phone other than a couple of niggling issues,
1. Why the hell is the led charging light staying RED even when it's fully charged? This is the basic of functions of a flagship phone, my mate 9 changed shades of colour until a strong green when you knew it was fully charged this thing just carry's on solid red, I've used light manager and lightflow before and don't want to use them again, way too many config options for a simple led task, have all samsungs been like this? this is my first.
2. That stupid capacitive HOME button at the bottom of the panel that can't be turned OFF! is a pain in the ass, everytime I lift my phone out of my pocket or take it out of it's pouch keeps touching that stupid home button behind the screen and waking the phone up, I've contacted Samsung and they said it's an integral function and can't be turned off, I've lowered the sensitivity to it's lowest and still it wakes the phone everytime I brush my hand across the bottom of the screen, it is really annoying that with all the software configurations on this phone that it can't be turned off.

1) No it is not staying red, it is green
2) there is NO capacitive home button, S8+ has no front buttons
1st - havent charged it to 100 yet.
2nd- that icon is fine with me. Don't have any problems with taking the phone out of the pouch.
So far, knock on wood - im enjoying this phone more than my N7. There is nothing yet that bothers me about it.

Correct, but i will say i've never owned a phone that took 10-15 mins to get from 99% to 100%, i love the phone but i'm constantly catching that home button and it's very annoying to me.
That is not capacitive button but "software" button on screen... never managed to press it while taking the phone out of the pocket....

The whole screen is capacitive, call it what you want but the screen is capacitive like the nav bar buttons are capacitive. It is a capacitive button.
Have you tried turning down the sensitivity of the home button and possibly turning on "Keep screen turned off"?

Thanks yes i have already done all that, it's not really changed the sensitivity too much on the lowest. I always grab the phone from the bottom to install it in my car mount and it's constantly waking up.

Dunno man, dont focus on it too much. Mine dont bother me at all. Would not even think about it until u brought it up and still dont care. Even bixby button does matter to me, dont have a difficulty with it. Although i am trying to remap it for something useful.
Home button i seen somewhere where u could diable it. now im not a pro, nor tried it. It could be disabling it everywhere. Saw it in number of apps i have install one of which was BK disabler.

Np.
So far I've tried remaping bunch of dif way and the ones that have worked sucked. I guess I'll have to try the on from n7alliance. Pain in the butt but I have no other choice.
The home button squeeze thing sometimes stops working on me when I reboot my phone. It might have to do with certain apps, because it won't come back until I clear memory sometimes. So it can definitely be disabled without issues. I personally use it all the time.
