Hi there,
Sorry if this is a silly question. But could someone tell me how to remove my EX3 partition and restore my SD card to it's full capacity. I am using a 16GB Transcend class 4 card. I have tried using Paragon Partition Manager and partition magic but both of them do not see the EX3 partition.
Also, does I am stuck on the HTC white screen every time I try and install a new ROM. I have formatted and tried a few different ROM loads of times but nothing seems to work :-( except for reverting back to a backup from a few months ago which does not have A2SD/A2SD+.
Could the EX3 partition be corrupt or have anything to do with this?
I am using an unbranded HTC Desire
Thank you!

Dear guys,
I had a brand new Sandisk 8Go Class 4 microSDHC. I first backup all that's on my 4Go card on a linux PC (with hidden folders), then partition the new one with GParted, and copy back all datas to it. It worked for one night and then the phone started freezing everytime.
I suspected the card, so I tested it many ways and it seems it was OK but I returned it back and get a new one. I tried the same way, but at boot I was stuck at the "android" boot screen... I tried a lot of things, such as partitioning with AmonRA and restore a Nandroid backup, but still the same bug !
When I push back my old 4Go Samsung non classed that was delivered with the Desire, no problem.
Can you tell me why ?? I have the lastest radio, 5.11.05.27, and RCMixHD 0.14 with the original kernel (2.6.32.25-ck2).
Thanks !
Nobody can help me? I don't wanna buy another one...

Sorry for my bad English, I just saw your post, and really would like to help.
I am not sure if your RCMixHD version use the Ext to store data on SD?
Here is my solution to make your new SD works:-
- Backup everything before turning off your phone
- create Ext2,3,4 on your new SD
- Wipe everything on your phone
- Reinstall ROM.
Please correct me if i'm wrong
**It should not be the fault of your new MicroSD card, as i use the same card 8GB
Class 4.
I already tried this with no success unfortunately...
I'm still stuck with my old 4 gb at the moment, no solution at all. I really don't know what to try next... Any help is really welcome!

I have the same issue. Now I use kingston 4gb class 4 card, and no problems so far.
I used this 8gb card on omnia II and it worked flawless.
I just saw a 16gb class 6 from Lexar and I think I'll buy it to try. Thanks for your feedback!

Just installed this Lexar and... Miracle! It's perfect. Everything is working fine with this one so it really was the card fault.

I always see IC roms looking for an ext-4 partition during installation. I never made one. Everything works fine, is that just to make apps moved to the SD faster, or? Basically wondering if I should do this and if so if any steps are needed other than using gparted or somesuch and wiping and reinstalling the ROM.
I appreciate your kind replies to my n00b question. I only ever made special SD partitions pre-froyo or to lag fix the SGS1.

You don't need to do anything. It is formatting the phone memory to ext4. Don't need to make ext4 on your SD card.

Hi there, Ive installed runnymede but it diddnt start up, I forgot to add a partition to my memory card
When I am partitioning do I just have to make 1 sd-ext partition?
There are tons of other options, but are these needed for this rom?
When it was installing the first time, it hanged on the X screen so I guessed it diddnt work, luckliy my phone is working thanks to a backup
but still, what do I need for the partitions?
My Phone won't boot; just repeats to cwm 4.0.1.5 and sez sd-ext unmountable. I've been all over threads, and noothing suggested works. I Have an Optimus v VM. Yep and no sd-ext mount Just keeps dorking pout after 3 hours researching and trying different fixes!! Even partitioned sd card....wassupwiththat? Anywaze, itz fried as is. Any Help helpful...

Hi Mike have you tried formatting the SD Card to exFat or Fat32, also check that the sd card is clean along with the slot in the phone.
Best of luck
Ok, a little background. As we all know, the Evo Shift is sorely lacking on internal data space. I have been using Link2SD with my CWM created 4GB ext3 partition for several weeks. However, Link2SD doesn't allow for linking other folders in /data to save even more internal space. So I installed FolderMount to see if I could use it to link /data/data to my ext partition. Before I started, I made a backup in CWM, as is necessary when messing with stuff you don't know. I rebooted the phone after the backup and linked /data/data with FolderMount and rebooted again. BAM! Bootloop. Ehh, oh well, right? I gotta backup, so no worries. Yeah, I wish. Slam into recovery, start the restore, and get "Error formatting sd-ext!" I'm not too worried, just wipe the SD and recreate the ext partition. Still the same. Try again, making every effort to pay close attention to every detail. Still no dice. I tried doing a fresh format with my PC, going into CWM and formatting SD again, recreate ext partition, try to format it and same error. I even tried throwing the SD card in completely unformatted, just to make sure, and of course CWM didn't even see the SD card at all (duh, but you gotta be sure). I am kinda stuck... I don't have the $$ to buy another 32GB Class10 SD card, and I don't have another SD card to use at all. Can anyone give me any guidance as to maybe something that I have missed or haven't thought of? I'm really scratching my head trying to get around this formatting error. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Ok, nevermind, I figured it out. Main thing was, don't be up for 48 hrs and try messing with your phone. LOL! Second, while CWM will create a 4gb ext3 partition, it doesn't like to format or recognize them correctly. So I opted for a 2gb ext3 partition and I am good to go. This thread can be deleted. Thank you.

Cool you figured it out. I just saw this post, but if it happens in the future, you can try a program Partition Master. I've used it to take an SD card with didn't partitions (ext3 and ext4) to reformat it to a single volume. Plus, you can partition it this way too. I haven't used it in a year or so, but I remember it working when I was just messing around. You have to stick the micro SD card into an adapter and then connect it to your computer as a regular SD card. Then run the program and mess around with it.
Bro, I had tried everything. I used EaseUS Partition Master to reformat, repartition, and all. I checked the CWM log, which I had completely missed, because I had been up working for 48 hours straight. Log showed this error, which I basically commited to memory.
Mke2fs: lseek: Value too large for defined data type
A little more research on that error told me that CWM doesnt like 4gb ext3 partitions. It's weird though, because I've had this 4gb ext3 partition for a while and have flashed many roms and restores without issues. It started after I tried using 2 different symlinking apps. So I just tried a 1gb ext3 partition and everything works. I'll work out the error to get my 4gb partition back when I get some time.

I've never needed more than 1gb myself. 4gb seems like a lot.
I have a 2GB ext.4 for the tester.
