[Q] MIUI on EVO Notification Light Issues - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

This is my first real XDA post, please be kind
This weekend I finally took the plunge and installed a custom rom. All I have to say is WOW, I now know what all the fuss is about. I didn't realize how slow the stock HTC Sense was until I got to tinker around with a few roms. I installed Myn's warm twopointtwo first and I didn't really enjoy it all that much. I then installed MIUI because I had read some blogs about it and I decided it was a much better fit for me. I just have two concerns:
The notification light on my Evo doesn't seem to be lighting up. I liked having it so I could know when I had a text/email/missed call without having to turn on the screen because my phone is on silent about 60% of the day. I use handcent for texting, gmail for email, and the stock dialer from the rom, but nothing seems to be lighting up the LED. The 4G wimax light will blink when I get a text, but only once and then it never comes back. I tried tinkering with the settings, even tried going back to the stock SMS app with no luck. Any ideas? I tried the Wimax Notifier app too on the forum and no luck at all with that.
Second, what is common battery life for this ROM? I have SetCPU with some settings I found in the forum (screen off with lowest CPU settings and high priority). I lost about 20% battery life in 5 hours. Seems pretty good, but I didn't touch my phone AT ALL during those 5 hours I was at work. Always keep screen light set to low, turned off haptic feedback and audible touch tones. Sitting at 52% with 8.5 hours unplugged. I feel like I was getting better battery life with my stock rom, but I refuse to go back.
I am sad that my angry birds has gone back to having no levels completed. I was pretty far but I don't know what to do about that.
Any help that anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I have to get back to studying! Finals coming up so I shouldn't really be tinkering with my phone, even though it is more fun. I love XDA and the people around here never cease to amaze me! Keep up the great work.

I did find something just now. If I activate the trackball light up notification settings it seems to do the trick. Odd, since the Evo doesn't have one but I will go with it.
Just want to get swype working on this bad boy and I am almost set.

Hey, if you want swype just go to 4shared on your phone and search "Swype Evo APK".
Type it in like that exactly (without quotation marks of course)
and in the results it should be labeled "evo swype.apk" and say "this is a striped down, english onle, version of swype" under it.

New Fuze(AT&T) stock config and performance

Just got my Fuze Saturday. Due to family gatherings and work alligators, haven't had much time to dink with it, but here are some items that y'all may find interesting. Let me start out by saying that I played with the demo model in the AT&T store a few weeks ago, and saw the lag and other things that have been reported here.
My Fuze (for now) is completely stock. No tweaks, no apps, no SD card. Only thing I've done is sync contacts. I wanted to have a chance to play with it like this, so I'd have a baseline feel before mods.
ROM - 1.95.502.5 WWE
Radio - 1.02.25.32
I put a full charge (wall charger) on it after getting it, so as of noon Sunday it had a full battery. Since then, I definitely haven't been power using it, haven't used or played with GPS, no BT pairing, but I am in a 3G area (have left it on) and had wifi enabled half of the time. I've done about 30 texts, half a dozen short calls, manual email tx/rx half a dozen times a day, played with most of the goodies (stock games, weather, camera(w & w/o flash), video recording, CV, browsers, etc.) The battery finally showed low message this morning (Tuesday), so I'm recharging for the first time since the initial charge Sunday. Maybe my expectations are low, coming from an original iPhone, but so far the battery life appears to be much better that expected.
Most of the lag is either gone or minimal (unless I've got everything on the phone opened up at the same time, which has happened a couple time during this 'exploration' stage). So far, nothing has hiccuped or hung, so no need for a reset.
I'm sure that during the next few days, now that I have some down time to really ring it out, I'll find the clay feet (yes, I'm actually wimping out and going thru the users guide to try everything out before I start updating). I do miss the iPhone big screen, I'm adjusting to having to 'press' the touch screen (it's response is also much better than the demo unit), but I am very happy with my decision to get this guy. Personally, I love the form factor, It's heaven having a real keyboard (and the row of punctuation across the top), not to mention it's feature set and potential.
If there's anything that someone wants me to check out with this ROM version, let me know. Be forewarned I'm not a noobie to smartphones (I'm a junkie) but I am a noobie to twiddling them. That's one of the reasons I got this...I see it as a new hobby
here is a little battery burner test, enable the HSDPA and listen to music while broswering the internet, make sure the light sensor is on so it could turn up the brightness on ur screen and tell us how much batter life you get, if u get bored of broswering the internet, watch live tv, via orb or slingbox media player.
Get NATF's rom, v3.2 best rom out right now...

Please advise. Captivate issues galore...

Hi all. I just got a Captivate after using Mattc on my HD2 and I used an Aria for a couple weeks as well. I used Mattc on the HD2 for a couple months and really liked it. I understood it was running from the SD and lived with the other issues like slow wake up and occasional goofiness.
So when I got my Captivate I was thinking, wow, I'll have one of(if not the) fastest Android phone on it's native hardware. Everything should rock. I should be blown away... Not.
HELP!
The brightness settings. WTF! Why did they implement like 10 ways the brightness screws with your day. On my HD2 w/Mattc I set the brightness in settings to where I wanted and it stayed. Forever. Also when it hits 10% it kicks the brightness all the way down. 10%? Com on maybe 5%. But what is worse is when it does kick it down I kick it back up but it dims again at every percent it goes down. ANNOYING. Please let me control my phone... Oh and don't get me started on the Browser brightness. Huh? Even with the browser brightness set at max it's still dimmer than my regular brightness setting. Noticably. I only keep my brightness at like 75-80% too.
Also what the hell is with the lame Calendar notification settings? Are there any?
My question is this. Is there any ROM out there that will strip all that Samsung ideology and give me a stock Android experience. Especially without the brightness issues. Why do I need to slide my notification bar to change brightness? All it does for me is just cause my brightness to vary accidentally when I don't want it to.
Why must I add on programs for my Calendar alerts to function normally? Why?
So again. Is there a ROM out there that will strip all the Samsung goofiness? If I can't get this phone to work like I want I'm going to sell it and look for a Telus HTC Desire to use on ATT. HTC phones are the best man. IMHO
Thanks.

I don't know what lame is, but I use my Google calendar and I can set notifications. I get notified. Is there a specific problem you have?

There is no stock Android experience. Android is just the core - Samsung, HTC, etc, they all add specific things in order for their specific hardware to function. If you don't want what comes on your AT&T Captivate, then you can root and uninstall the apps you don't like, flash one of the many, many cooked ROMs available on this forum (just look around - they are everywhere, and all with great pictures and descriptions and huge threads full of information), tweak settings to your heart's content, or anything else you want to do.

I don't have any add-ons and I get my alerts. What exactly isn't working for you?
Auto brightness has been off. First thing I do-
I do not get audible alerts when a Calendar reminder goes off-(and there is no where in settings to change/check this)
I had to install "Calendar Snooze" to play an audible alert for a Calendar reminder-
Phone is at 10% now fully dimmed. Nice... Considering how bad the battery life is for this phone(for me) I'll be spending a lot of time with the screen fully dimmed.

Try reading a little and you will see you can set the brightness at where you want it by un-checking the automatic brightness setting..Then you can swipe along the status bar to raise and lower the brightness..It will stay where you had it set IF the automatic brightness is unchecked..Where you have the slider at will be the brightest it will swipe to..
Set your alerts to something you can hear and turn up the volume..They work fine.
Battery life is not a issue provided you follow some advise..Bump charge it 1 time and then use it till it drains down to single digits before recharging...also make sure you back out of all programs and turn off wi-fi and gps and syncing when you don't need them. Loose any task killer program you have and run it stock..you will find your battery life is excellent..if not you may or may not have a bad battery..Lastly..if you are really dissatisfied with it..take it back..
Good Luck

In regards to the brightness, turn off auto brightness and the 'power saving option.', that should solve your issue.
As far as removing the AT&T bloatware goes, try Unleash the beast.
If you want to run Froyo try flashing a rom, I used the latest version of Cognition.
Run far away from this phone if you still have the chance.

Thanks for the advice. Although I have done all of those things. I'm kind of coming to one real main pain point that I can't seem to solve. The screen dimming at 10%. Does anyone know how to disable that? Even if I kick the brightness back up after it dims at 10% it will redim at 9% and so on...
Bitter. But hopeful.

Unfortunately, running away from this phone does seem to be good advise. It doesn't mater how slick it is in theory. Uber display and kickass hardware are useless if the basic functionality suffers due to glitches most of the other options don't seem to exibit.
I decided to play the "mod and wait" game with this thing, and I'm regretting it. Broad-brush damnations would have helped me. At this point, enough issues have came up about this hardware that a "broad-brush" sticky may be warranted. The alert issues found by the OP, may be related to his speaker begining to fail. I had a similar issue. Calander and alarm notifications began failing in some apps, but not others. The phone would still ring. Some apps could still use the speaker. Within a week, nothing could use the speaker, and I had to do the "push-on-it" fix.
It's a forum. Posts are opinions. I've been impressed occasionally by the raw performance of this phone. Yet, I've also spent hours, hours, researching problems, applying fixes, flashing, pushing on the speaker, etc. And I've spent hours "waiting" for the thing to do something simple like send an email when it did fine the day before. With as much time and effort as I've put into researching and working on this phone, I feel like I (and others) have not gotten enough stability out of it.
I propose a broad brush damnation for this phone: "slick but intermittent".

haha. Thanks for the ,.. opinion. I'm starting to feel the same way about this phone. I had super high hopes. But I'm really going to stick with HTC. They just get it. IMHO.
I think most people regret buying this phone. Or they will, when FroYo never arrives, the lag gets worse and worse, the phone dies on them, and the GPS never come close to working, the market decides not to intall your app, this, that, or the other thing force closes, etc. etc. etc.

Umm froyo is already leaked and OTA is on its way.
Lag has never been an issue.
And GPS is a software fix... proven on these boards over and over.

I think your wrong. I think quite a few people got defective phones and haven't bothered returning them, thinking that if they root it and flash a different rom that would magically fix a broken phone. This is XDA and folks here mostly do this..thus the reason for most of the complaints. Problem is..it won't change much of anything to reflash if the phone is defective..If it is broken to begin with..it will be broken no matter what you do to it.. If yours is defective..quite *****ing about it and get one that isn't..or a different phone entirely. The working ones are great..just like they are supposed to be.
I have 2 of them built in September..both work and neither is defective. This tells me many of those built prior have some issues..perhaps not all of them..but some of them certainly. This certainly doesn't make it right by anyones account..just saying if yours is defective..return it and get one that isn't.
I honestly don't understand people who have the option of doing this, not doing it.The folks at my AT&T store opened 7 different boxes and checked every one of them for any blue tint on the screen and having the 3 button recovery option..for my second one bought at the same time,so I do know there are many out there that ain't working properly..The OP of this thread..is unhappy with it..damn..loose it and be done with it if you are that unhappy..or take that one back and get them to open up the boxes and show you one that works properly...If it was bought mail order..then you should just return it as defective and get your money back..and buy where you can see it first..It's your choice...and your money.

Sensation is a huge disappointment from a G2X owner

I picked up a Sensation at Walmart today to compare to the G2X and see what the fuss was all about. First impression was downright disappointing and the more I use it the more I am starting to miss using my G2X.
I'm going to force myself to use the Sensation for at least 2-3 days before I return it because right now I'm longing for my G2X. I really don't get why people are leaving G2X to get Sensation. I have both now and the G2X is night and day a better phone to me.
Things I've noticed so far after only a few hours:
- Sensation takes much longer to boot than G2X - I thought the Sensation had frozen at startup but nope, taking its time
- Worrying most to me - a few times the touchscreen will just stop responding to touches. I have to hit a soft key or something and then it starts working again. Very weird.
- Weirdly slow wifi speeds. I get 2mbps down on my Sensation while I get 30mbps down on the G2X - Same router/AP. No other changes?!?
- Screen resolution on Sensation is excellent for reading text and whatnot BUT it's horrible for color saturation and viewing angles. Just holding a G2X next to it really is quite a drastic difference
- Lag city due to Sense and other overhead. Scrolling homescreen, app drawer, lists, even apps like CNN, etc. is shockingly laggy. I hardly have anything running or widgets and it feels slower than my old Incredible with Sense. Not sure what the hell they did to this phone.
- Sense app replacements for stock apps (sms, email, etc.) are complete resource hogs and not fast like stock android. Takes forever to get things done.
I've installed Launcher Pro and am going to try running it with LP to see if it makes this phone livable. So far it's a big fat suck for me.
Will post more here.

Not a disappointment to this G2X owner. The G2X is ready to go out of the box but the Sensation requires some tweaking. First you need to turn off those silly Sense animations. Then get rid of the 7 pages worth of widgets. Go into the WiFi settings and turn on "Maximum Performance". Lastly, do not let the Sensation automatically install your applications and uncheck back up settings and app data under privacy.
-After the initial boot up, the Sensation actually boots much faster due to HTC's quick boot.
-Never had a problem with the display not responding to my Touches. It's actually miles more responsive than the G2X display since I found myself swiping 3 times to unlock the G2X. I believe you though. Some people have this problem.
-WiFi speeds are just as fast on my Sensation. I get around 20mb/s down and 8mb/s up on both devices. Want to see pics?
-Viewing angles are atrocious on the Sensation and it's contrast is not on the same level as the G2X IPS panel. That being said. Colors on the Sensation are much sharper and vibrant. I think it has better colors but this is more of a preference thing. I can tell you whats not preference and that's the brightness of the Sensations display. When viewing both devices in direct sunlight. The Sensation is a mile better than the G2X.
-The UI is not as responsive as on the G2X but when your in an app I think it's faster than on the G2X. The Sensations browser also loads and scrolls web pages faster. In the end, if you tweak Sense a little bit, there is no more lag but it's still not instant like the G2X.
-The Sense email app doesn't get used since I use Gmail. I never use manufacturer email apps due to the stock Gmail app having true push mail. The Text Message app is just as fast and better looking than the one on the G2X. I use to use Hancent until it lagged on the G2X. I am back to Hancent and it doesn't lag on the Sensation.
Everyone is going to have different experiences just like they do with the G2X. I am not biased by no means since I own both devices until I sell one. I am not in debt to either of the two.
In the end, use what you like. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. If you want to see a unbiased review than check mine out.

Either that or he's telling stories. There is no way in the world the G2X is going to boot faster when the Sensation has quick boot. It boots in 1/3 of the time it takes the G2X.

Sense has that fastboot feature which doesn't really shut down the phone, but rather puts it in a hibernate mode. From a dead start (after pulling the battery) the sensation does take longer to boot than the G2x. I say that from experience after playing with one at the store

When turning off fast boot mine boot within seconds of each other. When fast boot is on it is still rebooting the system and restoring all of your lost memory that apps suck up over the course of use.
I tested browser extensively. G2x won every time...

just wondering what the benfit of this is? "do not let the Sensation automatically install your applications and uncheck back up settings and app data under privacy."
If its speed, how does this really affect the speed of the UI?

OP I have to say you sound incredibly biased. Not the least bit of objectivity in your post. You illustrate this when you say the difference in the screens is night and day. Anyone who has both (such as myself and jrwingate) will tell you if you sit them side by side there is not very much difference at all. The G2X has better viewing angles but that's about it. But one thing the Sensation does have over the G2X when it comes to the screen is uniform blacks. Since there is NO screen bleeding at all, the blacks are at least uniform..something I cannot say about the G2X. The sense replacements for certain apps such as SMS and email run perfectly fine and without lag. So your assessment is definitely without merit. You spoke about the difference in boot time...from a cold boot, they are almost the same, and when doing a quick boot, the Sensation boots MUCH faster than the G2X. All in all it sounds like either your phone is defective...or you don't really have one. I say that because too much of what you said is off base. Your description is very inaccurate (as you can see from the responses you've received in this thread). The only night and day (as you called it) difference is the difference in stability. The G2X is a good phone don't get me wrong, but until it's a stable device (freezes, random reboots, battery life) it won't stack up against a phone that is stable. I've had the Sensation now for 11 days and it hasn't crashed once. Care to guess how many times my G2X would have froze or random reboot in that same amount of time? lol ...let's just say A LOT. LOL

- Was using the phone and launched Market...froze up, phone shut off wouldn't power back on. Had to pull the battery
- Phone may start fast from a warm boot but 99% of the time I never turn my phone off on purpose so the times I start it up is from a cold boot - in those cases it definitely takes FOREVER to start up compared to the G2X. Try this - the battery out of your Sensation and your G2X (assuming you have both). Now put the batteries back in and turn them on the same time. Done.
- Used Navigation and things were fine then noticed the GPS icon kept flashing and couldn't turn if off so it drained my battery and I had to do a restart (WHICH ALSO takes forever btw!!)
- LauncherPro is helping significantly, the scrolling is smooth and overall it's nice. Higher screen res is messing up some widgets
- Wifi speed is back to normal now for some reason so that's at least a good thing. No issues with data to report yet either thankfully
- My favorite thing about this phone is honestly and sadly the lock screen. Having quick access to apps from there is very nice but that's just software and sure not specific to HTC.
- HTC keyboard is garbage so I replaced with Keyboard from Gingerbread in Market.
So basically, in order for me to use this phone I've removed most of what HTC has on by default. I'm all for tweaking but this further illustrates the crap that skins do to phones. This thing running stock Gingerbread (or even Froyo) would have been quite wonderful.
I'm going to keep tweaking and keep it around for a few more days before I decide but I definitely am still missing the G2X. So far this thing doesn't do anything particularly better for me than the G2X. IMHO.
F THIS - I've decided to uninstall LP and go back to Stock Sense launcher. If I end up with LP, then I might as well use G2X. I'm going to live with this phone with stock Sense launcher so I get the real experience.

LOL

So why are you posting in the G2X forum and especially in this thread??

Umm if you paid attention to what I wrote...you'd see I said I have BOTH the G2X and the Sensation. Keep up...

You've already decided you don't like it so do yourself a favor and return it. You've already had so many problems...funny the problems you named in here I've seen noone else have..but hey if you say you're having the problems then you're having the problems lol.... I'd still go with what the other people said, if you're really having that much trouble then your phone is definitely defective because the Sensation doesn't most of the issues you named. By the way, the data latency has a fix for it. By the way, just for good measure...I've had the phone since the 8th and have yet to experience a freeze or a crash, and the vast majority of others have had the same experience. Same can't be said for my G2X. But to be honest, the things you say in your post makes me really question the validity of it....just saying...objectivity is non-existent..
Just because I have had tons of problems with the Sensation you question my objectivity but people who post the same crap about the G2X is ok because you've had problems. Wow.
Any case, my Wifi on Sensation just slowed down again since I checked 5 mins ago...looks like I'm not the only one. Fix this for me and I'll avoid throwing this thing back in the box.

Hitting the sweet spot in ROMs

I've tried most ROMs that are out for the MT4g, and I can say there is a massive variety. I really love the ability to fly between ROMs like this, but there is one glaring fact that I can't get by: they each have very evident weaknesses.
Yesterday, I flashed MIUI for the second time. The first time didn't last long - I quickly reverted to whatever I was using before, probably CM7 or VU. This time, however, I immediately became enamored by its quickness. Responsiveness I had only found on iDevices previously was very evident - and after installing launcherpro, I had the smoothest and most enjoyable surface-level device you could ask for. Polish was very evident in many parts (The two-pixel tall battery meter that would be above the notification bar was quickly a hit with me.) However, I quickly learned that it was not entirely translated from Chinese - the search button from the homescreen would produce only Chinese results. The registration for MIUI's built-in services was built around Chinese websites. On top of these evident, but manageable, issues, I noticed that music would randomly skip, sometimes multiple songs at a time. This issue kept reappearing in third-party music apps. Also, netflix was plain awful. A notification would lag the video and make the audio be out of sync. And that was only when the video actually worked. I ended up switching ROMs this morning when I accidentally turned screen brightness down to the lowest setting which made the screen permanently black, which for some reason has no method to fix. I was not willing to set everything up again.
Of course, before this I had to have a reason to switch from another ROM, right? CM7 has been my go-to for an acceptable Android experience. It works, but has a good number of rough edges, and isn't the smoothest experience ever. It does, however have many aspects that are universally compatible with almost every other Android device on the market running the same ROM, like the theme manager. Updates come almost every day if you are willing to flash a ROM every once in a while. Under the right circumstances, it is pretty speedy. My dealbreaker with it is poor radio performance. I don't know how MIUI would fit in with radio performance, as I was only on it for a day. Sense ROMs seem to have exemplary radio performance. CM7 randomly drops Wifi and is on edge where sense roms would have one or two bars of HSPA+. In addition, it takes longer for CM7 to actually connect to data services when you want to connect to a webpage or something.
My second most common ROM is Virtuous Unity. I think it has some cool eye candy, and has awesome data performance. Unfortunately this is as far as it goes for me. Sense is bulky. Really bulky. Looking at the built-in process manager shows a constant use of 4/5 of the RAM. This is not OK. I could quickly notice that the graphics performance for everything other than the launcher and certain built-in apps quickly decreased. The same apps would run smoothly on a ROM like CM7.
I guess my point is that it has been a while in the development for this device. Why hasn't anyone made a ROM that can pull the best aspects of these together?:
-The visuals and ludicrous responsiveness of MIUI
-The low resource consumption and crazy customization like CM7, as well as generally good compatibility with media apps
-The outstanding radio performance of Virtuous unity and other Sense ROMs
Maybe I'm completely in the dark here on why this might not be possible. Let me know if there's some ROM that I haven't tried yet that comprises these features and you may have found me my new daily driver.
I don't really know what to say to help ya out.
Running MIUI was fine for me, I never saw any Chinese and I ran MIUI for 2 months straight back in the summer. And the notifications never lagged apps, it bugged me when i was on Navigation, but I would turn that pop up off.
Sense ROM's were fine for me as well, I never experienced the bad graphics that you're talking about. I always played games and everything was fine. Sense always takes up more RAM but that's never an issue, even with Sense 3.0 ROM's you're still left with 100mb's or so. Even with 4/5 of your RAM taken that's not a problem as unused RAM is wasted RAM anyways.
And as for CM7, it's always my favorite and "go-to" ROM. It's always smooth and buttery for me 24/7 and has never slowed up on me. Wifi never drops on me and I get the same radio reception that I get on Sense ROM's.
Maybe you have certain apps installed or something that's causing you to have these weird problems with CM7 and Sense. As for MIUI, I never saw Chinese lettering so now sure how I can respond on that one.
I'm on Miui and I love it. You can overclock it and even undervolt a little too if you want but even overclocking the battery life is still really good.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
on miui right now and pretty content with myself
never saw chinese either personally, and never really felt like i needed to go to the miui site for any support, this place has been great for any issues i've had
as for the screen blacking thing, this is a known issue and is fixed by sliding the "trackball" to the right to bring the brightness back up or knowing where the brightness button on the settings page is.
and i personally feel GPS locks on faster in miui then it does when i was on tdj's 3.5 port. i unno, it took awhile for gps to lock on that but in miui it locks on so quickly lol
if you are really having that hard of a time getting full functionality out of the ROMs you are installing you are doing it wrong.

Everything the OP is talking about is opposite of my experience.
My radio works fine. GPS is zippy on the new leak.
I watch netflix at work ... Ive been through 6 documentaries and 28 episodes of Man Men.
MY experience with all the mentioned ROMs have been great.
If you dont do the recommended steps or do additional research Im gonna have to "+1" the comment above.
Sense: loved the flow of functions, hated the animations & batt life
CM7: Loved the reliability and speed, hated the blandness
MIUI: Love the themes, speed and batt life. Hate the contact manager
(I make my UI look sleeker and more sophisticated than an iphone)
People that dont like it because it looks like an iphone or acts like one is because you let act like one or look like one. You gotta understand all the eatures to appreciate it
MIUI.us has been my everyday ROM for over 2 months now. The only concurrent issue with it is with MIUI Music, where it would entirely lock up the phone even when I followed the advice and disabled certain options in the app that "helped" solve the problem.
Other than that, I haven't seen anything else wrong with it up to this day. I use my phone a whole lot, meaning I watch a lot of youtube videos on it, and even HD TV Shows (Go Kamen Rider Fourze!! ) without any problems whatsoever.
Check out the Doubleshot port if you want to swich to something different every now and then. It's pretty good as well, works great!
Give MIUI.us a second chance, just make sure you wipe everything beforehand. Check everything out and you'll be happy enough once you use it for a while longer, you'll see.
Right now I've got the latest BeatMOD BlissSense ROM with Beats Audio and it's an okay ROM, with the same downside as most Sense ROMs, it is a bit slow here and there.
[EDIT] Oh yeah, about the radio reliability, I've got the best radio results with CM7 and AOSP ROMs. Have you tried flashing the Panache Radio ROM to see if it helps?
Well, that's my two cents
For the Chinese search results hit the search button then menu then change the default search engine.
The only other Chinese I saw was in the themes app, but I find it much easier to get themes from English forum sites.

Infuse to SR

I went from a DLEV rom'd Infuse to a stock SR. Since I have a nice setup on my Infuse, I immediately rooted, installed CWM and used Ti to get my apps back. I wanted some resemblance to my previous setup, so after two days, here are my observations:
1. A tiny bit shorter and lighter than the Infuse.
2. The PTA apn was not working for me so I created a new APN based on my previous Infuse setup.
3. I have to get a new SIM and get them to properly provision my account as LTE eventhough I'm not in a LTE region). I was getting at the worst, 1000/180 kbps? This morning, I'm back to about 3.5k/1k *AND* the PTA apn works. Or perhaps ATT fixed the network?
4. Practically all my apps are working, even widget locker, widgets, live wallpaper. Even Pocketcloud. Titanium backup is a lifesaver. Sugarsync needs a re-setup though.
5. Dropped the phone on the 2nd day; this thing is slippery. Quite terrified of letting friends hold the phone. I missed the super thin Incipio Feather case, which they don't make one yet for the Skyrocket.
6. Battery is draining fast; I have Juice Defender, manually set display brightness and the power saving settings going. I've got to go a few days to let it calibrate first.
7. Used Ti to freeze a bunch of bloatware, no issues so far.
8. Internal speaker is louder than the Infuse but no better quality. Voodoo Control 2.1.1 don't work with SR. So external speaker setup don't seem to sound as good as the Infuse.
9. Screen color changes with the viewing angle. I don't remember this happening with the Infuse. No biggie but slightly annoying.
While awaiting a stable cooked rom to come along, here are my current negatives:
1. I wish there is a TSM setup so the status bar can be changed, batt %, no clock e.g. The numeric batt % would be very nice as the batt icon is next to useless in determining how much power is left until it's too late like last night.
2. The boot animation sucks so I'm hoping I don't have to reboot often.
That's it!

+1 from the infuse....and i am happier.
Infuse is single.core outdated eol obviously the skyrocket has faaaar better hardware
i made the same switch from a DLEV Infuse which i loved and which worked flawlessly, to the Skyrocket because LTE was just lit up in Charlotte. i got the white SR and in every way with perhaps the exception of the display and slightly lower battery life, it is head-and-shoulders above the Infuse. GPS locks are nearly instant, and this thing runs through whatever i throw at it and never bogs down. I can't wait to get ICS on this thing.
i am pretty disappointed however in the screen on the SR after coming from such a gorgeous one in the Infuse. under lower light it seem streaky with grays and doesn't seem to have quite the contrast and sharpness the Infuse had.
i dont know if it's worth doing anything about or if this is just a general malady that all SRs suffer from.
all in all, i'm really happy.
I went from the once awesome but very buggy Infuse to Skyrocket and it is like night and day...love it...
