[Q] HTC Incredible vs. Droid 2 - General Topics

Hey guys,
Im gonna buy either a Droid 2 or Incredible. At first i was gonna buy the droid 2 no question, because i have a G1/Dream atm and I love the keyboard. But the more i searched and reviewed, the more i saw the droid 2 being compared with the HTC incredible.
Though the Inc doesnt have a physical keyboard, there are a some pro's it has over the droid 2.
So actually I am looking for some input from you guys.
Can both phones be modded like I could with my G1/Dream? I am a flash-a-holic and love to customize my phone.
One last thing: both phones are CDMA 800/1900, does any of you know wether I could use the phones in Europe? Specifically The Netherlands ?
thanks

[Q] Help me choose a phone + mod (Android)

Hello,
I have always had Blackberry phones (a Pearl and a Tour) and have really enjoyed them. However, in July I will be switching phones, and I think I will get an Android phone. The biggest reason is the app availability is so much higher for the Android devices.
My wife has had the Droid Eris, and just recently got the Droid X. I hate touchscreens, and hated her Eris. However, the X doesn't seem so bad as far as the typing goes. Here is what I am looking for:
1. Has to be available for Verizon.
2. 4G doesn't matter to me at this point.
3. I mostly browse the internet, would love to use Flash. Watching videos would be nice. Big screens are nice too!
4. I would like Gingerbread.
5. I am not afraid of modding/rooting.
6. I tend to put a decent amount of apps on my phone.
Here are the phones available to me in my budget:
Droid 2 Global
Droid X
Samsung Fascinate
Droid Incredible
Battery life, signal strength for 3G, phone speed/power, voice clarity, good speakers, decent camera (still and video) are all big factors.
What do you recommend? I am leaning toward either the Droid X or Samsung Fascinate, and modding it to get rid of the bloatware (and in the case of the Fascinate, have Google be the default search).
What do you recommend? What stable, reliable mod would you recommend me use with that particular phone?
Droid 2 Global: Probably the slowest of the 4 you mentioned. Only recommended if you must have a physical keyboard
Droid X: Great aftermarket accessories and support. Gingerbread in process of being released. Speedy, but lacking in screen capabilities.
Samsung Fascinate: Fastest of the 4 once you root and ROM it. Amazing screen. Great developer community here on XDA
Droid Incredible: Still a good phone, but a little on the old side. With the Dinc2 released, don't expect much more support on the original Dinc.

The D2G has the fastest CPU in terms of clock speed, is it really the slowest?
What do you mean by lacking in screen capabilities for the X?
For the Fascinate, what would you recommend for a ROM?
Id recommend the evo its fast and has a ton of memebers to help u if ur stuck

I would even narrow the 4 phone to only 2. I would either chose between the:
Droid 2 Global (better specs on paper)
Samsung Fascinate (2nd on paper)
Since I don't have any experience on modding an Motorola i will skip that part and leave that to someone who does.
The Samsung Fascinate has a big community on XDA for modding and optimizing your phone. Great mods are MIUI and Cyanogenmod both are able to run on 1.3 Ghz (stable). Als good rom is GingerReal (don't know if its already available for Samsung Fascinate).
Good luck chosing,
Nick
Motorola does have nice feel and build quality, however, the fact that they're locked down really limits what you can do with them if you're the type of person that likes to have control of your device and play with fun root things. I originally had a Droid 2, which was fine, but ended up buying the incredible because of the awesome development community, custom roms, kernels, etc.
I haven't used the fascinate, it seems like it would be kind of so so out of the box, but could be pretty awesome with a custom rom. Another plus of the fascinate would be the super AMOLED screen.
I don't even think Verizon is selling the incredible anymore, they've phased it out in favor of the incredible 2 (ok specs, but locked down), but you could find a pretty good deal on eBay/Craigslist if that's the way you want to go. I love my incredible, only downside is that the battery life could be better, but that can be helped with kernels, underclocking, undervolting, extended batteries and the like.

Motorola's are locked down? In what way? I can get a refurb Incredible pretty cheap through Verizon, but if the Motorola's are limited in some way, I will definitely lean toward the Fascinate!
Motorola locks their bootloader meaning no truly custom roms, kernels, radios, etc. No cyanogenmod on moto. There are "roms", but they're essentially just skinned versions of the official Motorola rom. If you like customizing, the incredible or fascinate will be the best bet.

Samsung Fascinate. I was using it for the longest time before I got the G2x on t mobile and the Nexus S 4g on sprint. The fascinate can be rooted to gingerbread and several other custom rams. It is very fast with that awesome Super Amoled screen. Video streaming and stuff is great as well as the fact that its one of the only Galaxy phones that have a flash.
Great thanks everyone!
Droid 2 is slow due to issues with the RAM used and how it is configured, so I have heard.

I just check with a friend who owns a D2G and he tells me te same. If you really want to mod and customize your phone when stock just doesnt cut it go for the Samsung.
90% leaning toward the Fascinate now...
Fascinate, hands down. amoled screen is amazing, crazy fast, almost impossible to brick. gotta decide on the rom/mod on your own, lots of choices
samsung's is really gud....+1 fascinate
Not to hijack this thread, but what do you guys thing, the DX2 or the Fascinate? I just want a phone that has a nice screen and is fast. I know the DX2 isn't rom-able yet because of the lack of sbf files, but what do you guys think?
I have read stories of people having signal/reception problems with the Fascinate, and they trade them for the DX with much better results...that makes me nervous.
Also, what is the status for Gingerbread for the Fascinate? The Droid X has it...

[Q] HTC or ??

HTC Incredible S is the phone I am opting for. At the same time Desire HD seems to be a sensible choice. Can anyone guide me; which one is Better ? or any other model from the same family with somewhat same budget.
Secondly, this will be my first android. I have heard that HTC phones are best when it comes to Android updates and their special 'Sense' UI.
If any other brand in the market is having better choices in the Somewhat Same Budget ? Not only budget, but I expect a really good functionality alongside good looks.
Hope you guys there will surely help me make my decision...
Definitely go for HTC. Incredible is I think better as its screen is just the right size, not too small and not too large.
check Samsung I9000
HTC Incredible S and Desire HD both are OK.
It seems the camera of DHD is better than IS. And the battery capacity, IS > DHD.
@ hookguy, OmenosTM, evnnetuser. Thank you for your suggestion. I am definitely inclined towards HTC. Just wanted check some better opitions if available. Samsung is really offering some good models but doubt whether is it better to spend about 30K for Samsung instead of HTC.
That's easy!
The Desire HD has got Android 2.2 while the Incredible S has got 2.3 so I'd definitely buy the Incredible S. But if you remove the letters I C R D E B L and add the letters S O A N T, you get Sensation. That's the best phone you can get and I think that the hTC Sense UI makes it better than the Galaxy S II.

Desire hd has now got gingerbread http://www.eurodroid.com/2011/05/ht...branded-android-2-3-update-out-now-in-the-uk/
I go with HTC because samsung phone can get messed up right away if u root it . I rooted my g1,htc hero and never got them messed up. I switch over 40 roms together on both device. Since, getting galaxy it got messed up within a few rom i got it bricked. Even my droid from motorola didnt get messed up . Point is HTC and moto is durable. Im buy me a droid incredible 1 soon. Go with incredible s and HTC. I hate Samsung and their touchwiz isnt a dealbreaker trust me.
So, all you guys think that HTC is always a better option... am I right??
Make sure you go and physically play with the Desire HD before you buy it. It is a pretty big phone. I was surprised how big it was.
Shall I wait and watch the credentials of HTC Sensation and Samsung GS-II ?
My advice to you is to wait for the feedback from Sensation users, GB dual camera dual LED 1080p ...
I'm still thinking the SGSII is gonna be great down the road.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
It seems its better to wait for reviews of Sensation and GSII...

[Q] Android Phone with Touch + Keyboard???

Good Evening,
I'm looking for a replacement to my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile 6.5).
What's a similar phone with Touch + Keyboard, preferably running Android?
HTC still seems to be the only phone site which allows you to compare based on hardware features :\
Please recommend some smartphones to me!
Thank you,
Alec Taylor
FYI: I want Android primarily because of its g++ support... I can compile on the phone. So feel free to suggest one with a different OS if I can still compile my C++ on it :]
Hey,
I can recommend the HTC Desire Z or G2 if you get it from t-mobile. It's a wonderfull phone with a lot of nice roms out there.
The keyboard is nice (I even like it more than the keyboars of my G1 now...).
The only flaw is the battery... But well that's life with most smart phones.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
If you're state side... the MyTouch 4g Slide:
http://mytouch.t-mobile.com/4g-slide
Otherwise the HTC Desire Z (G2 on T-mobile) is a great device, although it has a single core processor.
The processors and memory on the myTouch 4G Slide look awesome!
However, I'm in Australia and also, I don't need a good camera...
You used to have a TP2; I can touch type on mine. Have you seen any with a similar keyboard?
The HTC Desire Z looks quite good, although I remember seeing someone else's and having a play around... it was a little small (the keyboard) compared to TP2's.
conizius: By G1 do you mean TP2 and by G2 do you mean Desire Z?
Motorola Droid 3, if you need a keyboard
Holy crap!
That Droid 3 looks AWESOME! (thinnest QWERTY keyboard, 8MP Camera, 1GhZ Dual-Core, Gingerbread and 16GB on-board memory)
!!!
:]
Fadika!
droid 3 is useless in australia, its a CDMA phone for US only (and a very few other random countries)

Do you like HTC Chacha.?
Nope, I don't press the Like button on that one
But seriously...
I'm looking for a non-blackberry type one, one where you turn and slide to type :]
HTC Desire Z is great but a little outdated.
Research
I spent hours doing research as i'm also looking for an answer on this one.
This is what i have shortlisted:
Motorola Cliq 2
Motorola Droid 3
Samsung Galaxy 551 Samsung I5510, Samsung Callisto
Samsung Epic 4G / Galaxy
Samsung SGH-T589 Gravity SMART / Gravity Touch 2
HTC Speedy: Sprint EVO Shift 4G
HTC Desire Z
HTC Merge HTC Lexikon, HTC ADR6325
T-Mobile G2 Mytouch slide 3G
T-Mobile myTouch2
T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide (HTC Doubleshot)
LG C550 Optimus Chat
ZTE Amigo
They all have a keyboard. The only other major considerations for me are battery life and size/weight.
My TP2 is dying fast so i need to buy something now!
Good luck.

[Q] HTC Sensation or Moto Droid 3

So my wife needs a new phone.
I have been very keen of the HTC Sensation and been finding an excuse to pick one up. Her new phone is just another new toy for me!
I know HTC will soon release an unlocked bootloader for the Sensation, which makes me wanna pick up one of these babies even more!
But with the released of Moto Droid3, I am itching to play with one of these too! I used to have the Atrix, and I terribly HATE motoblur. People have been saying Motoblur has improved with the D3 though.
Overall, I am still more likely to pick up the HTC Sensation, but I just wanna hear some of your thoughts between the two devices.
Thanks.
The Droid 3 seems to have a really weak antenna for a Moto phone. In the Verizon store it switched over to 1X where nearly all of the other phones stayed on a weak 3G signal.
I'd take the Sensation in a heartbeat. The newest Motoblur is way improved over what it used to be, but it's still ugly.
Thanks for the responses!

This is true. I have never been too fond of the Droid/2/3 series look and design. In fact, I personally have a disdain for physical keyboards too!
But the plus side of the Droid3 is it works in China and it works on Verizon. We travel back and forth frequently as both our jobs require us to.
We are on Verizon back home too.
But also, I think if we pick up at Droid3, we wouldn't be getting the Verizon model, which leaves us with Milestone 3. And I'm not sure if Milestone 3 will work on Verizon.
In China we are on China Unicom.
I would definitely skip the Milestone. Motorola is real slow when it comes to updating overseas (outside of US) phones.

oh really? this i did NOT know.
Good to know. Motorola isn't the greatest in updating even in the US.
Alright, HTC Sensation it is.
Thanks, heygrl.
Yeah the original milestone has a horrible update history, identical to the DROID which was updated quick and often.
The US DEFY got 2.2.1, overseas models didn't get it and if they did it was months after.
