How to get this phone - myTouch 4G General

I own a vibrant right now, (which I bought from T-Mobile and signed a new for).
What would be the easiest way to switch over to this phone without costing me anything?

U can only do a free exchange on a remorse period

you are better off just adding another line... or pay the whole 500 and keep both phones

Yeah add another line

I don't get it - add another line and then what? Pay for both lines for 2 years each?

Sell your Vibrant on Craigslist and pay the difference.

I have one that doesn't have a scratch or blemish on it. I've used it for almost 2 months with no reboots, minimal screen bleed and good battery. All in all, I would say its in perfect condition and the only way you can tell its been used is by looking closely at the aluminium strip on the battery cover. Has a few tiny surface scratches.
No trades, make me a offer. Ill take pics if you want to see it.

Exchange

When u exchange a phone do u get 30 days on the new one?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I just exchanged my Titan for the skyrocket and was told the 30 days is from the 1st device purchase, it.does not reset with the new handset.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
I was also told when I took back my TITAN that the 30 days doesn't reset. Due to this, I used a family members upgrade as I didnt want to try a different phone and be stuck with it. Turns out the skyrocket call sound quality is great .
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
OK what if I take it back then buy it with a new number
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I'd imagine if you bought one on a new line then the 30 days would be in effect for the new line, the new line purchase would not be affected by the other line you'd be returning.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
OK thanks guys I'm going to cancel this line that's still under 30 days then open a new line
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I think they have a policy on that. Would you be opening with same info or using someone else's info.

How much would be a fair price to pay for a droid razr "employee edition"?

I wouldn't pay more than $20 to $50 above an equally conditioned "normal" razr.

I used to work in a Verizon store, gave my friend my job because I was moving over to Sprint. He started working there around the time this phone came out, and he said the ESNs for these phones will only activate on employee lines.

Ohhh now that you mention it, I remember my Verizon rep telling me that same thing after showing me his.
OP, unless you have a dealer line, I think you're hosed. $575 for a Razr (not even Maxx) is extortion anyway. Tell your friend to pound sand.

+1. I mean, you're essentially buying the housing, since replacing the housing on a regular Razr is the only way you'd get an Employee Edition running on your account.

[Q] Budget out of contract T-Mobile phone

My friend is on T-Mobile (for some reason) and just broke his rather old non-smartphone. He's looking for a new phone, and decided to take the jump to droid. He's looking to spend 50-100 dollars max and just wants a working device with a good dev community. Suggestions?
The s2 i think is around 100-150 and its a great phone.

Out of his budget though, we're looking for 100 as an ABSOLUTE max.
It might be 100. Or free with a contract.

Is he willing to sign a contract or is he looking for something used out of contract?

Right. Ok well he is going to have a hard time with that. He MIGHT be able to find a G2 or a MyTouch 4G for around a hundred if he can talk someone down. But in all likelihood he'll be looking at a low end or very old model like a Comet, G1 or Cliq.

That's a very low price point, but a phone with a great deg community that is definitely selling for <$100 is the optimus t

I don't see how this will work if you actually buy a phone full price and not on a contract. Because like you stated, if you buy something it's yours.
Interesting

I would understand if the device was leased..but last I checked cell companies don't do that.
If you are paying anywhere between 200 and 600 bucks fit something they will never see again and plan to switch providers but now can't afford a handset then it's bs.

wow in the UK we went the opposite way a couple years back. We totally got rid of the power to lock down devices! It just makes no sense to lock them

Guys, please take a moment to sign this https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7

To be clear though the law does not outlaw unlocking the phone.
You are still legally able to unlock the device but you need to have the code from the manufacturer or carrier.
It makes it illegal to hack the phone to sim unlock like what is done with the iPhone.
If buy it on contract I can understand it, sort of...
If you buy it retail its not locked in the first place, at least not here. Hell, I dont think even contract phones are locked lol (my blade wasnt).
