Hey guys, quick question.
I currently have a htc desire that I passed on to a buddy of mine. I can get either a nexus s or incredible S. no price difference.
this new phone will be used for 3 months max, until my next upgrade
Which one should I keep?
Thanks
The Nexus feels like a cheap piece of plastic and is using very old hardware while lacking such basics as a notification LED and an SD card slot. Go with the quality HTC product.

Thanks for the quick response guys.
Which phone has the best battery life?
The desire had decent battery life with leedriod rom, but I am looking for much better.
Thanks
I don't what to appear facetious but your question is like comparing Haagen Dazs and Ben and Jerry's ! I was very tempted by the Incredible S but in the end I sprung for an unlocked Nexus S (super lcd) and I don't regret my choice. The Incredible S has a more tempting specification but it just doesn't feel right. It feels heavy compared to the Nexus S and there's something about the feel and the curved screen on the Nexus S that makes it very special. Above all, I know that the HTC is due for an update to 2.3.4 very soon but I've been using Google Talk for a month now, and already I couldn't live without it. As for the solidity of Samsungs, I always believed that they were fragile but so far after 1 month (unprotected) in my jeans pocket my Nexus is pristine, although it gets wiped and polished at least twice a day. In conclusion my advice is to not underestimate the importance of the software and the speed of ota updates which so far for me have been lightning fast. One final BIG question : is the bootloader on the Incredible S still locked and signed by HTC ( S-ON or S-OFF) ? If it is, happy hunting when you want to root/flash it - despite the availability of AlphaRevX. I rooted my Nexus S in the time it took to plug in the USB cable + 2 minutes . Good luck, whichever you choose.

I never got fantastic battery life with the Nexus S because the SAMOLED screen sucks it like crazy. It would easily account for more than a third of my battery usage throughout the day.
but when you guys think about it, the nexus is googles flagship model. not only is it meant for development, it gets official updates immediately

Totally agree. I have an Evo 3D and Nexus S 4G (AMOLED) and the only reason I can't use the Nexus for more than a day at a time is because AMOLED eats so much battery when displaying white, which is in most of non-system apps/menus. I don't give a damn about the extreme contrast ratios (nice but highly inaccurate). I want battery life. My Evo 3D gets 15 hours minimum with medium usage, which is amazing considering that when I was using an Evo with an extended battery, that was above average.
EDIT: Also for some reason when typing on ANY keyboard, it doesn't register certain taps on keys and it REALLY pisses me off. On my Evo 3D I can type with barely any typos.
Nexus S lol. You would get better life gingerbread is always the best for it just like CM7 great life.
I have a epic im using and I love it so far over the evo 3d
Nexus S! Such a sleek phone when held in hand

hmm seems like we might be getting a new oem battery soon and they deiced to restore the CPU clock to its full potential. Also whats with the constant alienation of early adopters with the sensation? First the XE and now sensation v.2!
I think, since this is a modification request not a new request, that this means there will no more be a 1.2GHz version only a 1.5GHz processor.

Our phones already have 1.5ghz processors. They just under-clocked them to save battery.
So an OTA will unlock it, and we just buy the bigger battery? Bit of a kick in the teeth
I think that HTC should allow us early adopters to trade in our batteries for the new ones, or at least i wish they would. Givin my knowledge of them they would probably say something like this
Thank you for contacting HTC. We understand your concern over the introduction of our redesigned battery but as consumers the new battery would serve absolutely no purpose to you and would be undistingushable from our previous battery for we already have your money.
Have a nice day

Why buy an XE when you get the same on the original Sensation but at a lower price?
Hope this comes to Sensations' outside the US as I am thinking of getting one.
How much is this new battery going to set us back? And what's so great about it?

Its a 1930mAh battery. That's bigger than our current ones, anker ones(even though some say its only about 1700mAh) and evo3d ones. Also i don't trust the 3rd party batteries in there stated mAh values. they are also removing a hearing aide function called t-coil.
Hi
I know there are already couple of this threads but since they are about 2 months old I thought I'll start a new one. Many people were saying to wait for the Sensation XE but I think it's overprized.
I would like to know if it is woth to get a Sensation or wait for newer phones?
By new phones I mean new HTC phones. I don't like samsung or others.
I liked the new Galaxy Nexus but it's too big for my taste.
I couldn't find news about HTC releasing new phones soon and hoped somebody could tell me.
Also, with an Anker battery, will I be able to use the Sensation atleast 2 days?
thank you.
IMHO it depends on what you're looking for. Waiting around for something better will not do you any good, as that something better will be old news in 4 months of its release. Get a model that you want, and forget about the rest.
I really like the Sensation. I planned on getting it today.
There are only two things keeping me from getting it. The battery. I hear a lot of different things about it. Hence my question whether a Anker battery would last 2 days. I know it depends on the usage of the phone but there must be a reference for it!?
get the htc amaze, its similar to sensation just has more memory and is 1.5 instead of 1.2, its got 1 gig ram which is amazinggg lol hence the nameee but ur question about the battery is tooo general bro , you nneed to be specific and specify how big the battery is. this sensation has a 1500mah battery which differs depending on rom, use, radio matching RIL, screen brightness, the brand of the battery has nothing to do with how long it will last. if u want a battery that will last 2 days just uv and dont use ur phone,,,, but if u wanna use it alot and still get that battery life buy a battery that is twice as big as 1500. but remember by doing this your phone will need a diff baack cover and be twice as heavy

If I buy the sensation I would have bought the Anker 1900 mAh battery with it. I think for this one is no other backcover needed.
I don't know when the Amaze will be released in Germany.
It really depends on the usage as far as your battery goes, the other day I.picked up my wife's Sensation to check how long she had it without a charge and had 2 days lol, I couldn't get that much time out my phone and that is because I use it a lot.
My wife uses her phone for texting, calls and web, that's it.

And how, using some electrical and power laws, will UVing help make this phone go 2 days?
People need to stop advising others to undervolt. According to conservation of power, its effects are slim a best if not dangerous.
Even getting down to a 100mV UV at 250mA/H average draw from the processor will only result in 25mW of power savings per hour. Now, these processors are likely running quite close to their minimum SAFE voltage. If you get into a region where the semiconductors are NOT QUITE ON and NOT QUITE OFF, you will meet even MORE problems.
Managing apps and the screen will save power. Underclocking will also save power since it takes more current to turn on and off semiconductors faster.
As for which phone? If you truly dont like the Galaxy Nexus, then go for the regular sensation. Its going to get ICS soon and will really be rocking then.

I had a similar issue of whether to get the phone or not, and I have concluded that I should get it since the price is really cheap(319USD). The Sensation does everything I need & had great support, hardware, and its design is nice. I'm aware 720P screens and what not are on the horizon, but I really needed a new phone so I just went w/ my gut feeling instead of fighting myself.
im in the same boat!
my contract upgrade was due 3 weeks ago and now I will only wait till the release of Galaxy nexus to see if HTC release any new phones in the UK apart from the XL.
if they dont then I might get Senny.
right now, the Sensation is a great phone. I'd even say it's a best-in-class device in many respects. It's definitely HTC's flagship phone at the moment.
If you need a new phone now, and you're thinking of getting the Sensation, then get the Sensation. It's great.
If on the other hand, you want to wait a little longer to see what's around the corner, you can do that too because there's great stuff coming soon. The problem is that there's always something better around the corner, so you could end up waiting forever.
I personally went with the Sensation for the following reasons;
1) I was getting cranky with the LG Optimus 2X reception with custom ROMs. Stock firmware reception was fine, but the software was ****. Go figure
2) I got a great deal with a review model
3) I didn't like how light and cheap the original Galaxy S felt, the the SGS2 is even lighter and "plastickier" from all accounts. The Sensation has a more "premium" feel to it.
4) I got a great deal with a review model
At the end of the day, even though I knew the Galaxy Nexus was going to be released before the end of the year, I've been extraordinarily happy with the Sensation.

Just go for the brand and model you like to have.
You can always get the "normal" Sensation and turn it to Sensation XE by flashing Android Revolution HD!
The only bad thing about the sensation is the speaker, otherwise great phone.
With an Anker if battery you put the phone into airplane mode before you go to sleep and use internet sparingly you can get two days out of it. It's not gonna be easy though.
Most likely you're going to have to change kernels and find a ROM that you like that is optimized for battery savings. This plus juice defender and I'm getting around 12 hours of moderate use.

I think EVERY phone has a problem, once the nexus prime comes out.. there will probably even be problems with that. You just have to deal with it unfortunately
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140902

Even this. There will ALWAYS be complaints as well (I've had the Magic/Hero/Nexus/Atrix/IncredibleS/Sensation - Always had complaints. Actually the Magic never really had any nor did the hero... but those are mad old!)
But for some, the phone is fine. My sensation has no dust, no power button issue, I have no idea what this death grip is all about. The only thing that bothers me is the headset plug and the idea of putting antennas on the back cover. Aside from that, this phone is perfect for me!
There's probably other phones with issues as well but for now.. I just brought up the s2 as an example.

Hi!
I'm about to switch to a newer phone from my beloved (and dead) desire S. I was thinking about buying a Sensation (XE maybe?) instead of a One S (due to battery replaceable and sd card slot). What do you think?
So far i loved HTC and Sense (even if they're so slow in updating SO). I don't feel like moving to Samsung, should I?
I have no main use for the phone: I use it (obviously) for phoning, for games, I changed rom often on Desire S, watch videos (TV series too), listen to music, social networking, e-mails, and so on. Like it was a laptop!
I think you should go ahead for the one s the sensation is getting somewhat old..
I found sense on this phone a little bit slow/laggy however everything else is good except battery life and horrible speaker... And of course death grip.

More cons for Sensation:
The antennas are integrated into the back cover, which is removable. This translates into crappy signal in fringe areas.
Wifi deathgrip is very prominent when covering the top of the phone. Landscape browsing? Better learn to hold your phone with one hand or your fingertips.
I've learned to accept my Sensation's flaws, so I'll live with it until contract is up. But if I was buying something new right now, it definitely wouldn't be a Sensation. Probably jumping to the Samsung side next year.

Its funny how a few ppl are talking about he should get a Samsung. I wouldn't do it. All their phones feel so cheap and flimsy. There is one Samsung I will get and it the galaxy nexus and that's only cause it a nexus, it also helps Google is selling it unlocked for $350. If I was the op I would get that or an amaze. I love the sensation but I know there is alot better out. I know the amaze is only slightly better but for me it has more ram and faster hspa. Gonna throw this out there right now, it's my reason for NOT getting a One S... My niece got one like three weeks ago... Spilled a TINY bit of water on it and since it has no removable battery, etc.. She dried it IMMEDIATELY, turned it off and placed it in a bag of rice... Worked okay, however, the internal memory was DESTROYED... It would corrupt the system all of the time and so forth, long story short... She ended up having to get it repaired. I will NEVER own a phone without a removable SD and battery now. (She was told by repair that it was damaged because even though she turned it off, since the battery couldn't be taken out there was still a current running through it.)

I'm gonna tell you this right now, I've got a Sensation 4G and I'm using the XE back with one less antenna and I have had NO death grip issues. I'm not just saying that, I've had the best signal with this phone opposed to any of my others. (Maybe the others were REALLY crappy? Lol.)
Anyway, I just got a replacement Sensation sent out to me from T-Mobile. It'll get here Monday. They offered me the One S for free and I turned it down. (They said I could call back if the new Sensation doesn't work out.) However, I really feel the Sensation will be the phone that I stick with until HTC comes up with something new.

The Sensation is a great phone fonpacific, as is the One S. They both have their flaws, all phones do. Personally, I think you'd be better off with the Sensation till HTC comes up with something better that has a removable battery and microsd.
That's the other thing about the One S... I forgot... It's advertised as 16gb but you only get like 7-8 usable for pics/vids/music. (My niece was SO upset about this.) I've got a 64gb card in my phone.

A few questions:
1. How much screen on time do you guys generally get? (Battery life.)
2. Is the signal strength (cellular) of this phone bad? (The Sensation is pretty awful.)
3. Does this phone overheat a lot?
4. Are there any known manufacturing defects with this phone? (For example Sensation has dust gathering underneath the screen.)
5. And also, is it getting official Sense 5?
If all goes well, I will probably get one off eBay, used, but in good condition, with warranty.
Thanks a lot guys.

1. On average about 3, but people have gotten up to 6 with about 12 hours total.
2. I don't believe so...
3. No
4. This phone is occasionally known to go from full charge to zero completely randomly, and sometimes just stop working entirely.
5. Yes
I've never had a problem with mine. Accessories are hard to find. It was depressing when HTC almost immediately replaced it with a new model. Development is a little slow but what there is is amazing. I've gotten close to 20 hours on the sense 5 port.

So would you say it is "easy" to get at least 5 hours of screen on time? Because one of the reasons for my upgrade is the need for better battery life.
(In comparison, my Sensation gets a smidge over 4 hours screen on time if used VERY conservatively.)

Oh dear, that sounds bad. Is it a widespread problem? How many times has it happened to you? I'm assuming it is a hardware defect? Would a warranty return fix it?

How much screen on time did you get?
EDIT: I have heard that some people have replaced their One XL battery with the higher capacity One X+ battery, is this modification easy and common?

I mean, if you just went from 100%-0% you could probably get 5-6 hours easy. With normal standby time as well, probably not. I once got 29 hours with 4.5 hours screen on. That's the best I've ever gotten but generally battery life is very good. Side note: Sense ROMs provide better battery.

It is a problem with every phone that COULD happen, but it only happens to a very few number. Sadly, I was one of them. Yes warranty fixes it.
EDIT: if for some reason warranty doesn't cover it you can send it into mobiletechvideos.com for JTAG

I tried to do this, but it's not easy. I couldn't get everything apart.
This is my fifth android device since the Dream (aka G1) and it's the first one that makes me feel like android was finally done right.
It certainly will feel like an upgrade from the sensation, and apart from external speaker sound it doesn't feel like a downgrade from a One.
My buddy has a one and I played extensively. If I didn't know the specs I would have assumed they were about equal. The One has a better screen, but only if you look closely.
What I'm trying to say is this: you will have a hard time doing much better than this phone right now. Quad core and 1080p screen with 2gb ram is cool, but I couldn't really tell a huge difference. They are both fast and smooth. On the other hand, this will blow you away after the sensation
Edit: also, I bought an Anker Slimtalk external battery for like $30 off amazon and I've never worried about battery life since. I can charge the phone in my pocket unless I'm wearing stupid tight hipster skinny jeans (which never happens)

Thanks for the very useful & helpful replies guys.
I have some more questions:
I am really confused, I am trying to buy this phone here in Europe (UK), and there is a lot of conflicting information in regards to specs. Some websites say that the One XL has 800/1800/2600 Mhz LTE bands, where as some say it only has 1800/2600 Mhz bands - i.e missing out on the 800Mhz "crucial" frequency which has better penetration inside buildings, and provides coverage for far reaching signals in suburban/regional areas...
Also, a lot of eBay listings say it has 16GB internal storage, whereas others say it has 32GB. I thought the One XL only came in 32GB?? http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_xl-4572.php
What device/model designations did HTC give this phone, and what are the differences, if any? (Eg, Z560e etc...)
Thanks a lot once again guys.
I'm not sure about the bands, maybe it's the difference between the One XL and the One X, you're currently in the One XL forum. The differences between the two models are:
One XL: Qualcomm dual core processor and LTE compatible. For some stupid reason this model is also branded as a One X by some carriers like AT&T, causing a lot of confusion.
One X: Tegra quad core processor and not LTE compatible. Often referred to as the International One X.
What I do know there is there's a model of the XL which was released here in Australia (exclusively to Telstra network I think) which has 32gb capacity. All other models have 16gb.

Well the (International) One X doesn't support 4G for a start, I stated 4G bands.

That is partially what I was wondering about - so are you saying that there actually *ARE* One XL models that come with 16GB storage as well?

Yeah all the AT&T models and some Canadian models I believe, along with others.

Ahh ok, my apologies, I'm no good with the bands. And yes, the majority of XL models come with 16gb, only the Australian model comes with 32gb.

That means the GSM arena spec sheet is wrong as initially suspected. Very interesting to know, thanks guys.
Hopefully one day I will jump ship to this community, it seems like one of the best XDA communities I have seen.

This phone also has a "black screen" problem where the display will simply die for no apparent reason. It's rare but it happened to mine. The phone still works otherwise but the screen is dead. AT&T gave me a One because my One X was two weeks out of warranty.

Ya the guys here are extremely helpful and also have a great sense of humor
Except for this guy Turge, hes just a real a**hole

i think the release of the aosp 3.4 kernel will extend the life of the device quite a bit which is something to consider.

I agree all of the people who are apart of this forum are very friendly and willing to help.
To answer the topic in my words yes is worth upgrading to the One XL from the sensation. You get a better processor, camera, and display. If I remember the sensation is on the old qualcom s3 processor. Depending on what your doing the phone shouldn't get to hot unless your watching long movies or playing games. I would suggest buying a case because the phone is so lite you might feel like it will break.

Better processor, better camera (not hugely better though), better screen size, better screen res, NFC, 4G LTE, better battery life.
Trouble is there are so little on eBay, they keep getting snapped up quickly - its hard to make a catch without overbidding

Yep, happened to me and G4 Man, if you take apart the phone and reposition the wire that is bent at a 90° angle, the display will turn on, for reasons unknown, and for more reasons unknown it shorts the wire and it literally ignites.
