Hi,
i just wondered about the Touch Pro's performance since it has more memory or isn't it significant enough?
Can you run PS-games smoothly?
What about SNES/GBA-games?
And with a keyboard it should be more fun to play with.
But i have heard about problems about it.
If you slide the keyboard out it automatically switches to parnoma-mode and you can't even start your programmes....
Also one further question, what do you think?
Iphone3G vs. Touch Pro
On which device will the games run more smoothly?
I have watched some youtube-vids of some ps-games on the Iphone, but it was just horribly slow.
Well considering the hardware , CPU:624mhz and a gpu, i just can't imagine that it will run better on the Pro, or?
The iPhone CPU is underclocked by a fair amount to conserve battery power.
What, really?
Even with applications on?
And what about the HTC Touch Pro, ist it also underclocked?
I have read something like about 25-30fps, and what i have watched on Youtube with Iphone, it was never 25fps.
SNES/GBA-games run fairly well on the HTC Touch pro, but still a bit slowish.
Most of the Playstation roms i tried crashed, but the few that did work also are slow.
But 25-30fps? no way - not even close. where have you read that?
I have the feeling that the 640x480 resolution sucks the performance out of a lot of games, compared to a 400mhz 320x240 device.
Also the hardware buttons are - although stylish - complete crap for playing games, so you have to use the on-screen controls or us the slide-out keyboard.
Clearly, the Touch Pro is not a gaming device
I have read it in the Diamond forum.
Can't you lower the resolution?
Hm, Perhaps i should get the Omnia with its low resolution^^
But which one has the better GPU?
I mean, all of the three have dedicated GPUs.
It's a pity because it is "only" a problem of the software (emulator).
I mean with PSP, you can run PS/SNES/GBA-games.
Has anyone tried Enigmo with the T PRO?
It's a 3D accelerated game my friend showed me on his Dell Axiom v50
Meh.
I don't wanna buy an almost 1000$ now.
Just the emulators aren't good enough.
I will buy cheap and good mobile phone and a PSP.
I thought i could get everything in one device....

That doesn't matter for emulation, they are not using it!

It's always a great difference, if you program for a specific hardware or for an operating system. e.g. console - pc
So, how hard would it be to rewrite a current emulator to utilize a gpu? Specifically the SNES emulators, it looks like they haven't been touched in ages and they have always been generally slow.
There is a Snes emulator that uses the Diamond GPU...
there is? do you have a link/name of the emulator?

It's just not fair to say that and not tell us what that emulator is, LOL.
I've been a little disappointed in the Touch Pro's performance with emulators - but I kind of expected that. VGA screens are very slow for emulation, though they do make games that aren't even designed for that resolution more stunning. IE - Contra for the NES looks better on my Touch Pro than my 6700 (QVGA).
However, nes on smartgear is nearly fullspeed (disappointing that it's not . . .), Turbographics is also close to fullspeed, but occasionally has jittery play. Genesis on picodrive is smooth, but not 100% speed - occasional slowdowns. CPS1 & 2 games on Finalburn are very smooth, but again - just a little too slow. I haven't gotten neo geo games to work at all for some reason.
I'd originally wanted to connect my phone to a tv and play from my couch, but I think performance would be completely too slow.

Anyone know what this emulator is? Does it exist?
I can´t remember the name but it uses open gles which should be supported because Call of Duty Open Gles version runs hw accelerated.

Why do you guys always link VGA to slow? So wrong...
Dell Axim x51v has an VGA screen. Performance? Google it. And it's a PPC from 2005.
Anyway, it would be nice if someone, who played a bit with emulators, will construct a list with TP-compatible emulators.
I haven't been able to get a cache to build. I'm trying again now, so hopefully I can get even ONE neo geo game to load, LOL.
*edit: I was able to get neo geo roms to run. I don't think a cache will build with kfortouchpro running in the background. The cache builds very fast after that. Unfortunately, performance is a little sluggish with sound enabled.
For NES it's Smartgear. I payed for it (I think $10), since it has the distinction of being by far the best TG16 emulator for PPC. It also emulates gb, sms, and genesis without all sound features. Also it had been reported to work best on VGA devices.
If anyone knows the name of the SNES emulator - I know a lot of us would appreciate knowing. SNES has always been sluggish, even on faster QVGA machines.
I was wondering if remapping programs make any difference in being able to map buttons for emulators such as PocketCultMAME and pocketgnuboy. I would really like to be able to play games in portrait mode rather than in landscape. Has anyone got either of these emulators to work on the Fuze in portrait mode?
I have no prob playing gba/neogeo/snes with keyboard using kfortouchpro.
For gba, I get near-30 on some games (super robot wars, for example) while unplayable sub-5fps on others (need for speed).
Neogeo is consistently around or above 20fps (mostly action/platform, and things like marvel vs capcom work too).
Genesis works around that fps, although not the fastest.
Snes is a different story. It's much slower, but I found final fantasy 6 to be playable with some adjustments to frame skip. All that is without sound, btw.
Is there any software geniuse who can make a software that iphone games and application can work in diamond
Thanks
only an idea
There is nothing of that and will not be!
Iphone has a extremly powerfull 3d graphic chip so there is no way for slow windows devices. The other thing is a completly different OS
There are a few similar apps to those in the Iphone, but bluemetalaxe and Evgeniyko are absolutely correct. There is nothing like that at the moment.

I thought you were gone from the Windows Mobile scene

That's pretty negative. Considering that the iPhone is running on an ARM processor, emulation should be a lot less complicated. It would be a matter of wrapping the API calls from the iPhone OS to Windows Mobile, and the OpenGL ES calls to the driver on our phones. 3D applications might not be able to run at full speed, but then again, they might considering that the application would be running at the iPhone's resolution, not 640x480.
The iPhone folks have eagerly been waiting for this title for at least half a year – and it’s still isn’t known when it comes out (see THIS for some additional info & comments). Despite the superior profitability of the iPhone platform when it comes to gaming, EA Mobile, the developer of the Need for Speed franchise, deemed it better to release the Windows Mobile and the Blackberry versions first.
Note that, because there’re no trial versions for any of these platforms, I could only test the Windows Mobile version – I didn’t want to shell out another (I paid for the WinMo version) 10 bucks for a Blackberry game just to realize it’s plain slow / too simplistic (as with most Java racing games) on my BB 8800.
First and foremost, the Windows Mobile version is accelerated on some of today’s most popular phones; most importantly, the HTC Diamond and the HTC Touch HD.
This, however, doesn’t mean it’s
- unplayable on non-accelerated phones. Actually, on some of my phones / PDA’s, it runs – taking into account the lack of hardware acceleration – very well. Not exactly like most top-tier racing games on the iPhone (Asphlat4 etc.), but still very playable – much more so than some of the alternatives.
- compatible with the 3D accelerator (the 2700g) of the Dell Axim x50v / x51v PDA’s. Actually, the game is plain unplayable on these two models. Don’t even give it a try – it’s not worth it.

(3D hardware accelerated HTC Diamond screenshots; on non-hardware accelerated models it's far more pixelizated and "blocky", of course.)
Availability
It’s available for purchase HERE for 10 bucks. If you have either the HTC Diamond or the HTC Touch HD, it’s a no-brainer: get it, you’ll love it.
If you have some other device, I can’t give you precise advice: on some models, it runs pretty well (e.g., the iPAQ 210); on some other, it’s considerably worse (e.g., the HTC Universal) and, on some, it’s plain useless (e.g., the Dell Axim x50v / x51v). You might want to give Google a try: just search for the words NFS Undercover and your PDA / phone model; you most probably will find some kind of info on this.
Note that a lot of current device models are missing from the online “select your model” list. With EA NFS Undercover, however, I found the HTC Diamond version (version v17.0.19, inner filedates in the CAB: 11/14/2008) working OK on my other WinMo devices, VGA and QVGA alike, as well. I’m not sure whether, say, the Touch HD version CAB is any different and whether it runs on other models. It might be, as some folks at XDA-Developers state. It also stated to take advantage of the accelerometer of the phone – I couldn’t personally check this out (but will, as soon as I gain access to a Diamond / HD). Note that the Diamond also has an accelerometer, but it must be separately unlocked.
Compared to the other, current racing games on Windows Mobile,
if you have a compatible phone (again: not the Dell Axim x50v/x51v), you might find it great. For example, compared to Gameloft’s Asphalt4 Elite Racing and Ferrari (the last two racing game releases for Windows Mobile),
- the native (non-Java) versions of these games run definitely slower on my HTC Wizard than NFS Undercover, and
- the Java versions of the games are plain ugly on VGA devices (currently, there is only a QVGA-compliant native [non-Java] version of these two games; they both utilize the upper left quarter of the screen on VGA models) with far less detailed cars, buildings, roads etc.
However, compared to e.g. Raging Thunder, the latter is, generally, better (faster) on non-3D accelerated hardware – and uses high resolution on VGA devices (unlike NFS). Astraware’s GTS World Racing is also faster; it’s just that I find it quite boring – unlike, say, Asphalt4, particularly on the hardware accelerated, accelerometer-equipped iPhone.
If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch (preferably of the second generation, meaning far faster 3D graphics), I don’t think you should bother with the unaccelerated WinMo version, though – current top-end iPhone racing games are simply far-far better.
Thanks!
I love that game!
Hope my old Uni can support it...
i had that game already on my cruise. liked it but am not a big game fan so i deleted it. found it somewhere wich will be remain nameless

Don't bother - it's not the fastest on the Universal. Give a try to Raging Thunder instead, should you need some more rendering speed.

BTW, on Handmark (where I purchased my copy from yesterday), the HTC Diamond version is still the one I've mentioned in the review - are there other (legal) sources of the new version?
UPDATE (4/13/2009 14:32 CET): XDA-Developers forum member owziee has made some screenshots of the new version using better textures on hardware accelerated models like the HTC Diamond. I still don’t know where it can be purchased from as the Handmark version I purchased is still clearly an old (11/14/2008) one. Also see THIS for a discussion.
Also, there's a video of the HW accelerated version HERE.
10bucks is a reasonable price.
So your actually saying this would run well on a touch pro?
I wonder if I can see FPS factor or something.
If this doesn't run smooth, does it make sense to use speedbooster?

Based on the Diamond (which is, HW-wise, pretty similar), it should make use of the 3D acceleration. However, I can't guarantee anything - it might turn out to be incompatible.
(Too bad neither EA nor Gameloft offer trial versions at Handmark to check their stuff's compatibility before purchasing them.)
UPDATE (4/13 16:45 CET): note that, as far as Gameloft’s above-mentioned two racing titles are concerned, Gameloft’s Asphalt4 Elite Racing and Ferrari GT,
1. I referred to Asphalt4 Elite Racing HD, not the earlier (and much-much inferior: much worse graphics, no multiplayer etc) Asphalt4 Elite Racing. The latter runs OK on VGA devices too. (Nevertheless, I don’t recommend it because of the, compared to the HD version, ugly graphics and so on.)
2. On my HTC Wizard, it’s Ferrari GT that is considerably slower (it’s pretty much unplayable as of version 1.09) than EA’s Undercover, not Asphalt4 Elite Racing HD. The latter is somewhat faster (as of version 1.07) than EA’s title. The situation might be similar on other OMAP 850-based devices.

I can agree that the iphone version looks better but still the Diamond version looks way better than the ngage version imo, also the ngage version seems to run slow as hell in the video.
Also remember the Diamond renders at vga (640x480) & that requires a lot more power than the iphones resolution, it's easy to see the jagged edges in the iphone screenshots due to it's low resolution.

i think the diamond can do better than this
so what you guys think ?

On the Diamond this works really well (the screenshots don't look good, but the pixel density makes it much better on device).
Also, the accelerometer worked out of the proverbial box with the version I have.
Framerates aren't perfect with things running in the background, and it does complain if there's not enough RAM, but switch of TF3D and it's a great little game.

Yeah, the n-gage version pretty much sucks. Unfortunately, no game have supported the 3D hardware acceleration in the models that otherwise have this (N95 etc.). This is why all the three racing games I mentioned in the review (Gameloft's two titles and EA's Undercover) are pretty unplayable and useless on my N95 - certainly a no-match for the accelerated and accelerometer-friendly iPhone version.
Anyone else notice this? Doodle jump and fruit ninja have less frame rate than in IOS. It may be not much of a big deal for you guys but for a mobile/console gamer like me it is.
yea I noticed that too...
I never played either of these games on iOS so I can't say, but for me the fps is fine even for PES2011. Ive played the same games on Android and don't see a noticeable fps difference.
I just hope they get rid of the random lags in games come Mango, cause that's a serious issue that deters from the overall smoothness of WP7.
Hi, I own a HTC Mozart and a 3rd gen Ipod Touch (same hardware as IPhone 3GS), and this was one of the first things I noticed when playing games on my new WP7 phone.
Simple games like Doodle Jump, Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja all run fine but at a noticeably lower framerate. If you haven't played both it doesn't really matter, but when comparing wow the iOS versions are so much smoother!
A more demanding game is "I Love Katamari". This uses simple textures but pushes alot of polygons and has alot of objects in the world - enough to make it totally unplayable on 1st and 2nd gen IPhones. Comparing the game on both systems, again iOS runs it significantly smoother, and also has a better font and transitions in the menus. The HTC is obviously rendering at a higher resolution, as there are alot less polygon "jaggys".
What worries me is the 3rd gen IPhone is now 2 years old, which is an absolutely lifetime when i comes to mobile hardware, and has an almost 50% slower CPU. Yet it still outperforms the latest WP7!
It can't be a hardware issue, so maybe its the OS - can anyone offer any insight?

WP 7 screen resolution: 480 × 800

Not really.
Doodle Jump is a very simple 2D game, yet it suffers the most obvious framerate drop. Are you saying it's just not possible to produce 30FPS on a WVGA screen with the 1st generation of WP7 hardware? If so that's a pity.
Resolution hasn't got too much to do about this, I think. Best bet is that the framework used on wp7 is more high level and if you want to squeeze more fps you have to work the plumbing.
If you look at games like The Harvest, it's damn smooth even compared to a piss-poor 2D game like Doodle Jump. There are Doodle Jump clones in the market which have better framerate.
Overall, I would say it's just the platform which is new.
The fact that half xbox titles are just bad and some are totally buggy, but many others are excellent, tells you that it's feasible. Maybe people need to familiarize a bit more with the platform.
Just lazy ports.

I just love when people say what I wanted to say with 1/100 words
The current version of WP7 (NoDo) limits 30 fps in their games. Mango will up the FPS limit to 60 fps. I read somewhere that Doodle Jump will get this treatment and will be as smooth as a babies behind once mango is released..along with a number of other games I guess.
In order to stabilize, ms limit fps
I was lucky to find a huge electronics shop that had a working unit for the new Sony XZ2, unfortunately not for sale but a demo.
Aside from the back, which was a huge fingerprint magnet, the front of the device looked really nice. Compared to the old XZ Premium, it's a lot more compact. It's a shame it lacks the 3.5mm audio jack and has the 18:9 aspect ratio giving black bars, but I must say, the screen looks fantastic, it blew me away.
It's almost AMOLED like, deep blacks, strong/vivid colours and decent brightness. I saw the Jumanji movie trailer which came with the phone and it looked fantastic, no complaints here.
Sony promised a 20% increase in sound and they kept their word. The volume was set to the maximum in the above trailer yet it remained free of any distortion and was indeed substantially louder. The vibration S-Force effect was cool, along with action scenes, explosions and such you get vibration effects with which you can control or simply turn off.
I did not play around too much with the camera but low light images were impressive, far better than previous models.
As for the little compact, similar to the XZ, but, matte plastic back finish. At least no finger prints when handling the device.
With regards to speed and response, very very fast. No lag or delays, super fast. The snapdragon 845 is a beast. Once this device gets root and custom roms, it'll be a rocket.
Anything I missed or any questions with regards to the above devices, let me know and I'll respond.
I've read a few reviews.... seems very very good !!
DisplayPort Alt
For the love of god please test USB-C DisplayPort Alt to DP, HDMI, anything! I bought 2 XZPs to experiment with replacing my desktop entirely at work and RDP for anything I couldn't do in a browser with desktop view. But alas, Sony confirmed that waas disabled that as a "design decision" and you can't get any output despite the 835 supporting on other somehow more vanilla devices.

It is! and the Snapdragon 845 is around 30% faster than the 835 which is already a beast! In most benchmarks the XZ2 is actually faster than the Samsung S9 series such as AnTuTu 7, Basemark OS 2.0, GFX 3.0 Manhattan, GFX 3.0 Manhattan, GFX 3.1 Manhattan, GFX 3.1 Car scene and Basemark X.
It even beats iphone X in the graphics department. It's better in GFX 3.0 Manhattan, GFX 3.1 Manhattan and GFX 3.1 Car scene.
Very very impressed with the performance of this device and the new Snapdragon 845.
