unofficial car holder and navi panel - Desire Accessories

Do any of the unofficial car holders activate the NaviPanel which the official car holder will. If not, is there a way to force start it on a not rooted Desire?

I don't think this has been solved with any carholder so far. But there are a few dedicated souls working on the issue regarding triggering the various dock modes, you can follow the progress here!

Who can tell me what GPS Antenna fits it and works.

I have the new XDA II car kit that works well if I'm making a call, well well enough, I now need to get the antenna for the kid, I have been to Tottenham Ct. road and have no help from those sad shop keepers.
Who's antenna fits in to the kit and will it work with everyones software.
Help I've never had sat nav before.
Thanks
Most car kits (if not all) don't include a builtin GPS receiver - so an antenna alone would not be enough! You probably need to buy a GPS receiver (most of these have internal antennae) that connects to the socket on your carkit... the one to get will depend on the socket type.
Let us know exactly which car kit you have (e.g. post a link to it) for more information.
Thanks, I have got tthe Tom Tom reciever and it had the same American phone socket that fitted into the car kit and it fired up first time, I am well impressed.
The onoy problem I now have is if Tom Tom is taking me somewhere and I recieve a call it locks up as I end te call (not during) and I have to exit the program and re launch it. A pain when on the motorway.
Thanks
I know it doesn't answer your question, but both this and this appear to be the same issue.
Let us know if you manage to sort it out!
Thanks for the link mate
There seems to be the same probllem with others.
Just got back with a few beers inside me and really ought to sort this thing out tomorrow.

If you want to use Mapping software then you need a GPS receiver. The Emtac Bluetooth GPS works, provided that you install Bluetooth Tools.
Do you want a GPS Receiver that plugs into the SD slot or one that plugs into the connector at the bottom - i.e. a Serial GPS.
Don't buy a GPS Antenna - they are cheaprer - but they are no use to you except to plug in to a GPS receiver to get better signal

"Most car kits (if not all) don't include a builtin GPS receiver"
This will confuse people - most people think of a "car kit" being for handsfree audio.
I think what you are referring to is a street navigation kit.

XDA2 Car Kit - Help with ID + Comments?

Hi all.
Found this via kelkoo.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/3345.htm
Thought it might have been somebody OEM'ing the original o2 accesory but when I look on the o2 site there is no integrated cradle car kit listed!
I'm looking for a kit that will:-
Mute the standard stereo for calls
Allow audio from the XDA2 so I can use it as a car stereo
Charge the XDA2
Allow connection to a Tom-Tom nav unit.
This item would appear to do the business. However I suspect it may be a kit avialable somewhere else and have been discussed here already.
Any hints/comments appreciated.
Thanks All.
hi
i have seen a gps ready car kit with those functions on o2s site
jim
There's this stuff below listed for XDA2 which one do you mean.
Looks like bluetooth + GPS stuff and the like to me. My focus is on audio from wired connectivity but with an option for GPS. Bluetooth isn't a factor for me. Did you mean one of the below? If you mean somewhere else can you supply a URL? Thanks. Vent mount is no good either.
Cheers.

Samsung Official Car Dock "MOD"

Just wanted to tell everyone I "solved" the problem of the official Samsung Car Dock not playing music and phone calls through the headset.
Well, sort of. I removed the entire "USB slider" mechanism, and just hook up the power cord and headset directly to the phone.
If you pry apart the back of the slider, there a just some small screws holding to the dock. It comes apart easily.
Not quite the software solution I would have wanted, but the official dock is pretty cheap right now compared to alternatives, so I went with it.
I dont have a car dock I just run a soldered in audible cable out of the headphone jack. Perfect audio in, but thats also because I drive a VW that I had to do that.
I'm running SC2.9.2 - car dock works just fine with the USB slider and headphone out the back. Use the Car Cradle app and hit the Speaker icon. That turns on the USB sound. Been working for several of the previous versions of Froyo also.
I'm having a lot of trouble believing that none of you guys ever pop into the Dev section.
OTB'd CM6 FTW
Wouldn't an easier solution have been to just turn dock the phone upside down then flip the dock around? No need to pull of the slider mechanism.

[Q] Dock for Car

Hey guys,
i need some help / ideas for the best solution for my "docking"-problem in my car.
I have a bmw and since there are no snap-in adapters for htc i have to go over audiojack for listening music with spotify and i can't just put it to the place where the audiojack is because i have to control music with the touchscreen (iDrive 1 so no bt-audioplayback/control...).
Now i got 2 problems:
1. the cable looks ugly when its plugged in the phone and
2. i have no idea where to place my holder because every place i put the ugly holder the car looks cheapy.
So, my idea is to go over the pogo-pins!
Yeah pogo-pins but i don't know the assignment of the pins so the solution would be the cr s650 dock.
BUT! i think i my car won't be able to provide enough power through usb (is it possible to power the dock with usb?!).
The plan was to place the dock (please see the attachment) in the red circle and put the cable under the cover to the usb charger and the audiojack.
And also i have to modify the dock so i can plug in a jack into the dock or just solder a cable or whatever...
So my questions are, do you think this will work? And what problems i will have implementing this? Any other better ideas maybe?
Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english i think
No ideas?

I have no idea about the pogo pin dock, but I would avoid making any permanent modifications to a BMW and deal with the ugly look...it will decrease the resale value...you could always take the dock down when not in use (which is what I do)
Regarding the pogo dock, Make sure that the phone stays still and will not fall off the dock with some hard driving.
Not the prettiest solution, but I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroo...1131802&sr=8-1&keywords=cd+player+phone+mount
and just hard wired a power cable behind the dash (as to not have wires all over coming from my cig lighter)
The reason I went for that dock is because the phone is a lot closer and more accessible vs mounted to the windshield or elsewhere...also, regarding your proposed placement: having it down by the gear shift while driving would be pretty disorienting to me using GPS

Car Dock that activates Car mode?

Ive been going around this forum looking at all posts related to Car docks and mounts. I will be setting it on my dash and want something to be able to just place my phone on it and go. There is no "official" mount that I have been able to find, what have you found to be effective for you?
Moto driving assist activates as soon as it hears your car running or once your car begins to move. I use iOttie flex 2 mount. Works perfectly and I can go from portrait to landscape with just a twist.

Great! I will keep my eye out on that. I have seen them go on sale for like 10 bucks in the past.
You could use an NFC Sticker as well.
