Hi,
Is there an app or something that ends all or data connections after X minutes of inactivaty? If im not totaly wrong staying online 24/7 drains the battery !?

You can use WMLongLife or NoData

or use danielherrero's bandswitch
works like a charm also can disconnect internet during night.

WM6 UMTS/GPRS always on

Hi there,
My 3G connection stays on after a web browse or an email check process makes my device connect. I looked at "HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\[GUID]\Connections\[Connection Name]" and to my surprise AlwaysOn flag was off. Can someone help me with this? I like the fact that my device connects to the Net automatically when there is need, however maintaining the connection kills the battery, I need a way to kill the connection somehow automatically (either after a period of inactivity or when the application requesting the connection ends).
Cheers,
Shafa
If it is maintaining Gprs on, there must be a program requesting it - do you have direct push enabled?
Also, having the connection constantly 'enabled' but not actually transferring data will have a negligible effect on the battery life so shouldnt matter.
If your battery life is significantly worse (as you have suggested), then you must be transferring data, so no matter what you do, unless you actually permanently disable the data connection so you cant use it at all, it will keep connecting to transfer whatever data it is transferring...
I hope that made sense

Hi,
Have you tried turning the Data Connection off by holding in the End Call Button for approx 3-5 seconds. This should terminate an active connection unless as mentioned above you have an app running that is requesting data.
Cheers,
Beast
Thanks guys,
1. the fact that only transferring data should drain my battery: makes sense; I will test more.
2. the fact that I can kill the connection manually: I could always do that from comm manager, needed it to drop automatically.
Cheers,
Shafa

How to avoid accidental data connection????

Does anyone know how to disable automatica network switch from Wifi to Data connection? Frequently when using a Wifi network if the signal goes down or is lost the phone goes directly to Data Connection and I charged for the data...

I used to use that one. Worked very well, but then I noticed you can do the same thing with Advance Config 3.2 (and earlier versions).
Start Advanced Config and click "Menu>>Connection Settings" and disable your data connections from there. It's good for me as I personally don't use them at all. I only use the net on my TP when at home connected via WiFi. O2's data tariffs are way too expensive!!! (£15 per month, unlimited usage....more than my home broadband!!!)

Auto-disconnecting data connection when not in use?

Hi,
My Raphael is set to poll for email every so often. This is fine, but it always keeps the data connection open...
Will this have a negative impact on battery life? (As it is just using the mobile signal) ?
If so, is there a way of making the connection shutdown automatically after inactivity, so it can be started again only when actually needed?
I use bandswitch to close connection. Used it on my tytn and now touch pro. A great piece of software

Providing you are not transmitting any data, it should not have an impact on battery life. I leave my data connection open all the time as it speeds accessing the internet up as it doesnt have to re-negotiate with the network. Also if you are using hotmail with the sync period set to "as mail arrives" or using imap ilde (gmail) then leaving the connection open reduces data traffic as it does not have to "sign in " each time to receive mail (sorry gone off topic!)

I agree...I leave mine open at all times, and it has minimal impact to batter life (when compared to my wife's unit, which doesn't really pull data except once or twice a day as she updates weather). It does make any data needs easier to get up and running. Running it this way doesn't really make me sad that I don't have 3G on this phone.
I have tested on my HTC Touch Pro, when my data connection is on, on a night I loose more than 10% of battery on a night.
When the data connection is off, I loose less than 1%. (battery is still at 100% on the morning)
So to me it has a significant impact...

Easy and quick way to disable/enable data connection?

At my home/office I have little to no reception. If I have Pocket Outlook check for new emails every 10 minutes my batter quickly drains down because of the poor quality connection.
I haven't found a way to easily disable pocket outlook from checking email accounts besides phonealarm... but I don't have a today screen since I use TF3D and I don't like any of the available hacks giving me a today screen.
So... I'm wondering if there's an app or something out there that I can use to disable my data connection. I'd still like to get text messages and phone calls... I just don't want any of my apps to connect to the internet. This way, while I'm home my battery will last longer and when I leave my house I can quickly enable my data connection so all my apps can start syncing (like pocket outlook).
Is this possible? Did someone create an app that does this?
Have you tried MoDaCo NoData (distributed here in a .cab named NoGPRS, I think)? It works for me when I want to disable data connections; it's free and only takes a couple of taps to disable or enable data connections.
There is a comm manager data connection switch that turns it on/off. I think your looking for something else though. Have you tried making the email polling longer? Say 2 hours (unless you NEED 10 minutes). Because 10 minutes will kill your battery. You can turn your phone to EDGE network by disabling 3G in the comm manager but you wont get the 3G benefit. Using EDGE saves battery though.
Thanks wmm... I found the cab and it works perfectly

isn't a similar function (or is it the same thing) embedded in advance config?

[Q] Software that filters Internet access with purpose of controling connection way

Hi guys,
I hope you can help me with this problem.
I have an HTC Desire phone with Android froyo system version.
I would like to know if there any option to control which application get access to the internet via wifi and which via 3g DATA?
I have low amount of 3g network plan (30 Mb) and i have widgets and programs that updating constantly.
when i'm connected via wifi it's does not bother me but when i'm off the wifi network and i need internet access for surfing, waze or other small things, the other widgets are hogging my 30 Mb very fast.
i'm afraid that unlike the situation with my Nokia N97, with the desire my 3g plan will not be enough for the all month.
i'm using toggle data widget that helps me to control when and for how much time the 3g network is up.
as i've mentioned my previous phone was Nokia N97 and even though it was a useless piece of plastic I could control this option.
with the desire it seems that the 3g internet dreins my battary and eating my 30 Mb plan.
and another thing, is anyone experiencing problems with waze?
it worked fine on N97, but the desire crushing down with it and sometimes it take me 15 minutes to find gps signal.
thank you for the answers.

Welcome.
There's an app called TrafficStat that may be useful to you http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.trafficstats
Also, at least on my EVO, you can shut off the the 3G/4G data by holding power and tapping Mobile network.
Post back when you find something that works.
Good luck!
Matt
DroidWall also allows you to limit app access to wifi/3g. Not sure if it works with froyo though?
