HTC Legend tip - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I found out, that you can add the older android version sites to the phone without rooting it..(maybe some of you already know this)
okej.. so go to:
settings/application(s)/manage applications/then you get to a list of applications, find htc sense and click it/ then click on clear default, then click on the home buttom, and you should be able to choose home or htc sense.. click on use by default for this action, and then choose the one you want to use as normal..
may also work with htc hero

just a word of wisdom, i know this feature was removed on the htc desire when it was released they didn't include laucher2.apk which means there is no alternative whice means that sense just restarts.
and its not an older version of android its just removing sense

HTC keyboard on mytouch

tried to install it but its giving me permission errors i read somewhere you don't need to be root to install?
Yes you do, you have to have root to be able to replace system files.
Root is not yet possible on the Mytouch.
it is being worked on but for now you must stick to Googles keyboard
and or buy "better keyboard" from the market
Actually you dont have to have root I was able to install it on my Mytouch without any problems. Check out my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539818
that still didn't work for me it install but when i try to change the the other keyboard it still shows the regular android

nvm. I'm a tool. lol
after trying the htc keyboard out i like how it looks but its so slow at times is it because its not rooted version?
but the word correction on the htc one to me is wayyy better
awesome, its gonna be a long day when my touch comes in the mail.

Possible to backup yout HTC Sense "Scene"

I want to switch between roms, then restore apps via TitaniumBackup, then restore my icons on their respective pages.
Possible?
I would love this... Would take a lot of the tedious 're-layingout' of the home screens every day or so.
This should be relatively easy I would think, since there are already 'saved' configurations in the ROMs.

i dont think ive ever heard of anyone finding those files, but i have heard talk of doing it before. any progress on that ever made?
TitaniumBackup DOES allow this to be done. I'm currently running DamageControl 2.07.2, and I restore my HTC Sense desktop everytime I wipe the phone or change ROMs.
Under Backup/Restore, find the one that says "[DESKTOP] HTC Sense", this will allow you to backup and restore the exact Sense layout you're running.
A possible side-effect that I've experienced is that after reboot my HTC widgets disappear, so I use RootExplorer (paid app) to re-install HTCClockWidget.apk under /system/app. That will take care of the disappearing widget.
Hope this helped!!
Fresh Kitchen can do this. Look under the tools tab.
id like to know where the folders are located. it'd really help gain some space.
god, cant wait for the effin evo

Or you can just clear the data in SETTINGS > Applications > Manage Applications > HTC Sense
That brings the widgets back as well... Or at least, brings back the ability to re-add them
Doesn't that also wipe your home screens clean?

but it also means that you'll have to reconfigure the Sense desktop, making the backup and restore useless

Kitchen doesn't support 2.1 roms though. I once backed up my sms from the same screen the backup scene button is on and I restored it to a 2.1 ROM and it went completely wonky and I had to RUU!

HTC apps can't be ported to ant other phone or Rom without the sense UI. Please search next time as you would of easily found the answer.
Now, as its been said. Go try dialer one from the market

No since the Phone app is tied to contacts, etc. Replace the icon using Bettercut if it bugs you that much.

Which part?
If you're talking about the Phone icon on the FroYo Launcher then you'll have to change that code yourself otherwise I would use another Launcher such as ADW or the likes then you can put whatever phone app you want in those short cuts.
ok, shame im not a coder
Check out Nubdial. It runs better than dialerOne IMO>
I have a MyTouch, so when I press the off hook key (dialer) it would as me what phone/dialer to launch/default if there's more than one installed. Is that not the case with N1?
You can try launchers like home++, helix, adw, or launcher pro, which alt. shortcut keys at the bottom of the home screen for you to configure.

Easiest to check on the package, it is written there. I like anything based on GB RUU from August 1st. What I like the least are Runnymede ports
Install the app
Enable it on settings
Then long click on any text box > choose input mode and select the keyboard name

How to turn off add icon to home when install app?

There is used to be an option in Play Store to stop automatically adding shortcut icon on the home screen everytime install a new app.
But it seems it has been removed in Play Store.
Anyone knows how to do that on HTC phone running Android 8?
Thanks in advance.

According to this article, it has been relocated to the home screen settings if using native android: https://android.stackexchange.com/q...sable-add-icon-to-home-screen-on-android-oreo
But as HTC using sense as home screen management, I don't see this option on my phone, actually I am using HTC U11+, sense version should be similiar and U11 can upgrade to Android 8 I believe.
The play store version I have on my U11+ is 8.4.19.V-all[0][FP]175058788, which is same on my HTC M9+(Andoird 5.0.2) and Mi 5S Plus(Android 7). The for later 2 phones , the setting to disable adding icon to home screen is under Play Store->Settings->Under General section, between "Auto-update apps" and "Clear local search history". But this is not on my new U11+.
And the method suggested in the article above does not apply to HTC phone as there is no home settings, instead it is Sense home settings. I checked there is no such configuration to disable adding icon to home screen.

This is correct. We don't seem to have a way to stop this while on the Oreo ROM. I have the u11, updated to Oreo.

You mean squeeze the phone to enable/disable home screen icons? That doesn't seem necessary....
And to be clear, HTC sense is the overall skin on the phone. Edge Sense is squeezing the phone to add functionality.

Sorry, yes, I mean the Sense Home setting needs to add this configuration.
This feature changed in recent Android Oreo update, You can disable it by following this steps:
- Go to the Home Screen
- Hold the home screen
- Tap on the home setting.
- turn off the toggle next to “Add Icon to Home Screen”
That's it!

Carrier or region specific at the moment. I have the euro wwe and sense home is only version 9.50.100... Yours is 9.50.102...
No updates available via play or htc as of yet..
Same with me, still old one, for a while i limit homepage number
On Apkmirror there is a newer version but the dpi is 640, where as the U11 is 534?.. Not sure if its safe to install that one.
