Hi!
As you kow HTC has their own miniUSB looking a bit different that a standard miniUSB. After getting the Desire I want to be able to use my old miniUSB accessories. So i bought a miniUSB -> microUSB adapter. But I can't use my old headset and other accessories because the HTC miniUSB doesn't fit in the adapter.
Take a look at the link below and you'll see that the HTC miniUSB is a bit different:
http://www.theunwired.net/media/column/htc_breeze/htc_breeze5.jpg
Is there an adapter for converting the HTC miniUSB to regular miniUSB or microUSB?
Please help me out here!
EDIT:
The HTC miniUSB contact is called ExtUSB and I need a ExtUSB > microUSB adapter or a ExtUSB > miniUSB adapter:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ExtUSB
Erm, I don't know what Desire you're looking at, but my devices miniUSB looks nothing like the one in the picture, it looks like a standard miniUSB.
My brother has a Xperia X10 and the miniUSB port on that device is EXACTLY the same as the Desire, save the fact that it has a cover. Even the cables are interchangeable.

Sorry for not beeing clear. The Desire has (of course) a microUSB. But my accessories has HTCs special miniUSB (look at the picture how a HTC miniUSB contact looks like, one of the side is more straight than the other side).
So I need a converter for my HTC miniUSB accessories so that they can be plugged in to the Desire. A regular miniUSB to microUSB adapter doesn't work
I had HTC TD2 and it too had this special miniUSB, but I had no problem fitting a normal miniUSB cable in it.
But why the h**l did HTC switch to microUSB?? gahh.. i loved that they had miniUSB..

I also had the TD2. And fitting a regular miniUSB in the ExtUSB is no problem.
The problem is to get the headset from the TD2 or the adapter below (with ExtUSB) to fit in a microUSB adapter and then into the Desire:

The adapter above has the ExtUSB and I want to find an adapter for getting this to work with my Desire.

It's always been a pain that phones have different connectors. But now all the major phone manufacturers have agreed to standardise on microUSB from this year (in the EU) and from 2012 (in North America), so it should be the last time this happens until USB becomes obsolete, in theory.
Even Apple signed up to it, although from Gizmodo's pictures of the next iPhone it looks like they have their proprietary connector.

I've just bought one of those on ebay. I strongly reccomend not to get one with a wire, they just fall out and break
Hi Guys
I found that making one is easier. Just take your headset, open the mic housing with a knife, remove the headphones and solder a 3.5 jackplug in. In the pics here I used a Touch Dual headset...It has a volume control.

Hi Driskol
This one you are looking at will not work. There are of these adaptors availible for the HTC, But the one in the link you sent has a mini usb plug and not the HTC type...However that is exactly the ones I use to convert the standard headsets.
The standard MiniUSB has all its conections on the wide side of the connector, where the HTC connector has all the audio connections on the narrow side. see pic

he he..I´m very familiar with this procedure since I used Motorola phones for years It was the best way how to make own adapter ´cause I tried 4 stock motorola adapters and no of them worked properly so I did it my way
btw: mini usb from motorola doesn´t work on HTC for audio - it works only for data connection
I just received my order from http://cnn.cn/shop/audio-adapter-ext...ap-p-4118.html
...they are cheaper & quicker... it fits and works well on my HTC Diamaond...

Any stores selling mini to Micro USB adapters ote rthan onlne?
check www.monoprice.com ... just got ordered 6 micro usb to standard usb cables (of assorted length, from 1.5 to 6 ft) for $12 bucks shipped, priority mail.. then got a wall plug at Target that takes 2 USB cables for 20 bucks... works nicely.
I accidently tripped over my charger cable and some how my micro usb got kinda bent out of shape, I was a bit upset at how cheap the charger looked. It wasn't very HTC like. well I ordered a cable and a wall charger, and a car charger. I might be buying the car docking station when it comes out. It'd be pretty sweet.

Best Buy has a ~2ft USB cable with a mini plug (same as G1) on it but it comes with a mini to micro adapter. I dont know about data on it but it works great with existing mini wall and car chargerrs. The adapter is only about 1" long. The one that I bought at Best Buy was 14.99 and made by rocketfish. Only one I could find with an adapter.
If you have a fry's store nearby, go there. I think you can find mini-micro adapters as well as micro-usb cables. Plus, Frys sells these things at far lower prices than bestbuy.
I'm getting this one:

CAUTION - this site is a kinda "I WANT ONE OF THEM, OH AND ONE Of THEM TOO but don't really need any of it". My first time there I got pig torches, rare earth magnets, a green laser & a dolphin bracelet for my lass (a token gift for my lass) - none of which we needed!
couldn't help my self - cheap as chips - with free delivery to boot
And before you ask, no affiliation with dealextreme.
Retractable USB Cables for under $4
I just ordered 4 of these retractable micro USB cables for about $4 each free shipping figuring more and more devices will need this connection and I can scatter them about my life.

i didnt have the time to wait for one online so i just found one at a local circuit city store and was done done with that issue.
Got one from my local T-Mobile store.
Just got mine on Ebay for $3.25 includes shipping.
Just wanted to mention, everyone spending $2-5 on adapters could get a micro usb cable from Monoprice.com for $2-3 and not have a little adapter to keep track of.
The HTC Desire released not long ago but the cradle for this model also released.
http://www.emobile-accessories.com/products_cradle_htc_desire.html
I don't think they were made for Desire.
I've been reading about these two cradles and they are originally for Nexus one. Nevertheless, they do fit for Desire without problem.
They put a video on youtube showing the HTC Desire cradle. I think it's real product for HTC Desire.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj2M-fSl6U8
yes but where can you purchase - is this website trying to sell them? If so they are not doing a very good job!
You can buy them ate mobilefun.
Here the links to two different cradles:

Thanks for posting this: Just to help, here's the picture from site, plus a screen I grabbed and enlarged from youtube video to try to show the USB connector. But the video below shows it connecting solidly, so it would be hard to believe it is not the correct microUSB connector.

*EDIT: I just noticed a slight discrepancy between the youtube demo and the "for sale" pictured item.
In the first picture, you see the front edge of the cradle protrudes a little bit differently than what we see in the video-still. The video-still shows a fully open, smooth edge, without the protrusion. I am not familiar with the Nexus One, but since someone said these are adapted from what was being sold for the Nexus One, which picture is correct? The picture on the left suggests more stabilization and snugger fit preventing phone tip-over... so was it designed for the Desire's button's? I don't know. Someone here would know the differences between the N1 exactly
.
Well it looks like the original picture posted above is the incorrect one, a prototype, and that the video is correct --- because it more closely matches the images seen on the actual order pages for buying the product. However, there is still a difference:
The 2 above photos show a silver trim to the unit; the photo below has no trim. (personally, I would prefer the black-only because I am always a bit skeptical of inexpensive plastic products with silver trim. In my experience, the silver almost always cracks off or scratches off very quickly, and then looks even cheaper...)

should be Yes, from the google.com/phone technical specifications, it says "[10] Micro USB port"
so yes, newer android phones are equipped with micro usb ports, because they made it a standard..
correct me if i am wrong..i remember i saw it somewhere..
Right, MicroUSB becomes European standard in 2010.

I recieved one of these, its not flush at all mate, the unit wobbles like crazy in that dock, sent it back. AVOID.
I bought one and it is really only suitable for charging, would not use the phone while docked.
Plus Desire charges at a full rate only when using the attached USB cable and not through the mini USB socket. I have modded mine by replacing one wrong component inside and adding a dummy plug with data pins shorted to the attached USB cable so it charges fine using the mini USB too now.
I got one of these:
Item 199195 at expansys (can't post links on here yet)
Not too bad for the price. Phone fits in it well and charges/syncs fine.
i got the OEM HTC composite cable but found that no matter what i did, it clearly doesn't fit on the Sensation despite some sites like CellGuru that say its compatible or other reviews that say to remove your case (which i tried)
thoughts? im tryin 2 get this for mirroring in my car (which has composite aux-in)....i also got the MHL cable but thats obviously HDMI and i need the component connectors

if not, will have to get an HDMI to Component adaptor (if that even works in my car)
That end doesn't look right at all....it looks too long and the notch doesn't look like it belongs either.
That's for the USB port on the HTC flyer tablets
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
if i cant mod the connector on this cable to get it to fit, it looks like im gonna have to buy something like this and use my MHL adaptor with it: http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Composite-S-Video-Converter-3RCA/dp/B0047PDBP0

picked-up an Amaze over the weekend and this cable now fits in it (it has the grooves which the Sensation does not). found out this newer connector uses a different class of microUSB to charge & is a proprietary HTC design, called ExtMicro USB. It allows the device to get more power while charging, but it is also backwards compatible with microUSB cables (5 pins vs. 12)
Found my old USB OTG adaptor that I used with my SE Xperia Arc S and thought why not give it a go.
This is when I discovered the usb port on the Arc S (which i assumed was angular), and the OTG cable are square micro USB, not narrower at one side like all of the other cables i've seen - and the ports on numerous other devices (RAZR i included).
Specs say both are called micro USB, but one is entirely incompatible with the other as there is no way in hell it will plug in to the RAZR i...
