Superuser force closes after setting up A2SD v2.5 - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Ok I am running DamageControl v2.07.2 with A2SD v2.5. When I run any program that needs the Superuser program I get a black screen and then a Superuser force close error. Sometimes I get a Su request title bar and a black screen below that. I really need to get this fixed so I can use my wireless tether.

I just wanted to add that I have restarted the phone and I have tried reinstalling Superuser Permission as well with the same results.

USB Debugging on?

+1 USB Debugging if it's not on you're SU won't work. People usually forget to go into the settings and check it

I wish it were that simple. It is enabled. I wiped my ext partition on the sd card, wiped the phone and I have reflashed the rom and then flashed A2SD v2.5 over that. I restarted the phone and let everything load, reloaded my apps from the market and tried to run Superuser Permissions again with the same results. I have even gone as far as trying to the fix uid option under other in Ra recovery. I am still getting the same results.

Ok so I wiped and flashed the Damage Control rom again and this time I did not flash the A2SD v2.5 over it. This seems to clear up the problem. I'm not sure which version of A2SD is used in the DamageControl rom but apparently there is a conflict some where because DamageControl doesn't like version 2.5. I would still like to know what is causing the problem with the new version of A2SD.

Same thing happened to me totally messed my phone up.

12/18/2009 [UNOFFICIAL] v1.3a - CDMA MoDaCo ROM 1.3

THIS ROM HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEEDED BY MODACO ROM 2.0. I WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING UPDATES/SUPPORT FOR THIS ROM.
12/18/09 Update
Here is my most recent version of the updated MoDaCo rom. I have fixed the version display info.
This rom should be safe to upgrade from stock or MoDaCo 1.1 roms.
If you experience force closures the issue is with your dalvik-cache or your boot-cache.
You can clear your dalvik cache from the recovery mode. Do not do a factory wipe. Choose the dalvik-cache wipe/clear.
You can clear your boot-cache from adb as a temporary fix by typing:
rm -r /data/boot-cache
reboot
Changelog:
1.3a:
-rebuilt properties file
-shuffled some apk's around
1.3:
-no longer requires wipe to install/upgrade
-fixed ssh password in about screen
-fixed version info to show correctly
-all market apps should show correctly
-updated to busybox without color codes (this is for the windows users using adb shell)
-upgraded to latest relase of wifi tether
-minor performance tweaks and optimizations
-minor interface tweaks (new lockscreen animations)
1.2c:
fixed issue with protected apps not showing up in market
reverted displayed version # in phone settings (sprint update is still there though)
1.2b:
fixed builld/version info
fixed force close issues for people who upgrade from MoDaCo 1.1
1.2a:
manually patched Sprint Maintenance Release to MoDaCo 1.1 rom.
Get 1.3 here.
Install from the recovery console. No wipe should be necessary!
Please post here if you have problems.
Just flashed from 1.1, getting a bunch of force close messages on boot can't use internet, software version 1.29 so no update, don't know if I should've flashed from stock but thought id try from 1.1.
I'll look into it later right now I need sleep. FYI I updated from a stock patched Rom freshly rooted. You may need to do a wipe for it to work properly. Also i hand copied the individual patched files into the modaco 1.1 to make this work. I am new to this so I do not know how to update the version # by hand editing yet.
getting a bunch of force close messages also, plus it lags pretty much
dunno why but i tried it,thx anyway..time to flash again .
Is the bluetooth audio streaming working?
works great nice job man
i would also like to know if you can play media via bluetooth speakers on this ROM...all ROMs w/ the MR update don't seem to be able to do it, but the Sprint MR update w/ no custom ROM installed can
I got a bunch of force closes when it booted up. I also noticed the browser and some google apps will no longer open and just force close.
mine works perfect
Works fine for me. I did revert back to stock before doing the update and reset my data to be sure.
The build number in the "about" screen is the old number, but things do seem to be updated to the new stuff anyway. To change the build number, I think you need to edit the /system/build.prop file.
Great work!
My force closures have healed themselves! Well, except for the "market" app but I bet I can uninstall/reinstall it.
Obelisk, hopefully this description of my steps helps in finding some answers...
Last night, before I saw obelisk's first few posts regarding his experiment, I had decided to bite the bullet and flash back to the stock Sprint RUU.
First I copied all of my app and app-private folders to my SD card. Then, I did a nandroid backup and then flashed the RUU. I let Sprint download and install the MR. Then I rooted and flashed the recovery image. This is when I found obelisk's posts and decided to try it out. After I flashed his "unofficial" update I booted up and then rebooted (it stated "reboot required" in the menu\settings\about phone\build number after "MoDaCo Custom ROM"). At that point everything was working fine. No force closures, phone was sleeping correctly, I had mute and speaker phone buttons in the call screen, etc...
I decided to copy my apps back, restore my nandroid backup (even though I knew this would undo everything I had just done) and then reflash obelisk's updated modaco again. After doing that I rebooted and got a ton of force close errors. I just closed them all and went to bed!
HERE"S THE WEIRD PART! I woke up this morning and the only force close I'm getting now is with the market app (and ONLY if I try to open it). All my other restored apps are working fine. I am about to go to work but I will play around with this some more. I'm keeping it for now!
I just rebooted and all of the force close errors came back. I guess I'm going to go back to my original pre-MR nandroid backup.
i think the problem is related to the software version number which i haven't figured out how to update yet, so a lot of the apps, and yes there were about 20, that were patched in the maintenance release don't get updated properly until i increment the rom version somehow. i'll mess with it tonight when i get home from work.
did a fresh ruu, and updated this custom rom over a rooted stock, did a factory reset after the install and absolutely no issues.... A+ job buddy

How do you go about doing a fresh ruu?
I'm going off of memory here but...
1. download the sprint RUU
2. install HTC Sync on your pc if you have not already done so
3. connect your phone to your computer
4. run RUU (it's an executable file)
5. Follow prompts
6. Reboot phone into stock un-rooted goodness/badness depending on your opinion.

Is your battery fully (or at least mostly) charged?
EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed that's a different error.
Great Rom
I came from a rooted stock Rom wither the Mr update...wiped, flashed...apps2sd, then reboot. Worked flawlessly! I also added the extras from another Rom and everything is running fine. Great work on this..
are you getting error code 107 or 170? google provides no help for error code 107...

WiFi Tether stoped working!!!

WiFi tether was working a few days ago before I had to run the Sprint RUU. I went to use it today and it keeps force closing when I touch "Start Tethering"
I have re-rooted since I loaded the RUU.
Loaded Amon RA 1.5.1 Recovery Rom
I loaded Fresh 1.0 (I think it maybe a problem here)
Any Ideas from anyone?
@K
I had the same issue with Fresh 1.0. Just google search Wireless Tether, and download v1.70 from the website, and reinstall. Have you had any voicemail issues since fresh 1.0? I no longer have a voicemail app...?
Voice mail works fine for me.
Are you sure it is missing or just doesn't have an Icon???
Nope...It is gone...No .apk, nothing...and the phone no longer prompts when new voicemails come in..as in I checked yesterday and had 16 new voicemails! Haha.
Wow. I will post my APK later and see if it will install back on yours.
Thanks bro
I can't find an APK clearly called voicemail... if anyone knows where/what this thing is called I will pull it. Otherwise I am lost. I've looked all over the phone.
Found it!!
Let me know how this works. Not sure what all Spint_Core has in it...
That is the voice mail app alright...Problem is..I get this,
What program are you using to install it? I was having the same problem and was trying to install it with app manager through astro and it wasnt working. I did it a couple times and then i found tje vm app in the /system/app folder and i tried installing it from there and astro gave me the option of using package installer and it finally installed. I still didnt get vm notifications for a couplu days but then all of a sudden it starded working yesterday
Did you do a full wipe before installing Fresh? I kept having apps missing, force close issues; everytime I changed ROMS. I narrowed in down to apps2sd. If the apps were on my phone went I added the new rom, everything went smooth, the rom would move them after boot. But if they were already there, the rom would boot up, and not seem to find the programs. The only other workaround was using astrofilemanager and doing a apk backup and restore. Now if I switch, I do a full wipe and then restore all my settings/apps. Seems to work seamless that way.
I do not have apps2SD enabled (no ext part.) because I like to help test new roms...and things can get nasty. Yes, I did a full wipe when I did 1.0...No luck..It was like one day with 1.0 it was there, then poof...no dice. I even wiped and reinstalled 1.0 and no dice.

Not enough room to update app?

I'm trying to update a LWP from the market but after it downloads it says it can't install due to 'insufficient storage'. I have roughly 45-47 apps (this includes apps, skins for better keyboard, and LWP's) after deleting a few apps and I still get this error. Any idea why? I'm holding off on going the APP2SD route until after the official 2.1 is released and our devs make it worthy of installation.
Under 'running services' it says: Avail 48mb+0.00b in 8 Other 0.00b in 4
In 'internal phone storage' it says: 19.02mb available
Currently running Fresh 2.0d
Also, does anyone know why Keepscreen from the market runs at startup? I only want to use it with Google Nav, which isn't often, and it bugs me that its in running services at every boot. If this cannot be adjusted, what similar app is out there than only runs when needed?
google nav stays up on its own for me, check the settings. And you may be out of room in the dalvik cache or the data/data section. Had that problem, so I enabled a2sd for dalvik cache, and no prob now. Running 102 apps, showing 88mb free internal storage.
Well I tried clearing cache using cachemate, cleared dalvik in recovery, and deleted 3 games bringing my available internal storage to 35mb and still can't update the LWP that has the update available.
Why isnt a2sd worthy of installation?
we had it on 1.5 with source and everything to it.
Its the same thing on 2.1, nothings changed.
The Only change would be on 1 rom that can use ext4 now.
When 2.1 is released a2sd wont be changed.
I get this error with handcent updates on fresh 2.0d also. After it errors I have to go into recovery and "fix apk uid" mismatches or i cant install it. Also i am using a2sd 2.5, Probably of no help, just sharing.
I had the same problem with 2 apps I tried to update and got out of memory errors.
I used root explorer and went to /data/data and deleted the app, after that I was able to install.

Oh its worthy, I made sure to buy a class 6 to use it. I just don't want to go through the trouble of setting it up until we get an optimized official 2.1 so I can format my card and get everything set so I don't have to make any big changes. I'm a bit burnt out from the dozen 2.1 flashes of different roms.

I just saw an update for another app and it worked, but still not the LWP. I uninstalled/reinstalled and everything is ok now. Go figure. My phone was also being really slow and a lot of processes were stalling after wiping dalvik but seems like its behaving now.

Once flashed, is this rom compatible with Infusion Core A kernel? UCKL2 modem? I really like the look of the Rom.

It will flash...but don't expect video (and whatever else it breaks) to work...
It is based off of the latest AT&T leak so it has to have the stock kernel for everything to work.
Yes any Infuse modem will work.
Fonts
Are there any fonts or themes for this rom? I was under the impression it was based on MIUI, and could therefore be customized. the only MIUI element I see is the lockscreen manager. Am i missing something?
Its a work in progress, give it time, Nop seems to have a lot in store for his new Rom!

After flashing, Superuser is disappeared from App drawer and become "unrooted" but superuser is already installed as reported by Market.
Uninstall and reinstalling, no problem but still now shown in App Drawer and reported "unrooted" whenever useing apps which need root access..
Tried re-root with SOC, stuck with the messeage "waiting for device" and would not be continued..
Any idea ??

Odin/heimdall flash a custom kernel. then download the su updater for cwm I think the link is in the open of caty rom or something. reflash the rom (sometimes su gets corrupt and causes all sorts of issues, best to format /system and reinstall the rom for good measure) and flash the su updater immediately after. make sure you do this before a reboot and that voodoo is disabled on your phone. there should be a folder on the root of the SD card named "Voodoo" the V is capital and in that rider should be a text file or folder named "disable-lagfix" if this is not there before you flash the voodoo/cwm enabled kernel and lagfix gets enabled you must disable it and reboot before you flash the rom.
this leak is really secure, you need the custom "insecure" kernel to root it and there seems to be an issue with the build of bionix causing people problems. read the thread but don't get too confused on all the different advice.
also if you can use heimdall I posted a heimdall flashable dump from my phone in the bionic thread. it already has updated superuser and su.

no Voodoo exists but the disable-lagfix file/folder doesn't. it is usually a file but if you create it as a folder it works.
if you have no Voodoo folder you should create it as well as the disable-lagfix to speed up the process and avoid issues. or you can install bionix from my heimdall package. your choice.
I cant tell fron the screenshots....does this rom have the lockscreen that allows you to choose unlock, phone, sms, or camera?

I may need some help from someone. Here's the issue I have been experiencing with the rom. After awhile of just normal usage, performance begins to deteriorate. The symptoms can easily be described as lag. After a reboot, I return to square 1 with speed and response. Has this been happening to anyone else?

You can try uninstalling adfree from tibu
If that doesn't work, you may have to try to figure out how to fix permission, wipe dalvik and wipe cache.

I just installed this rom ontop of the old V2 bionix iv been running for months, figured it was about time I upgraded lol. Iv been playing with it a bit, and am getting used to the new layout. Maybe this is intentional but where did the battery info and pulldown task bar ontop go? Also some things seem to be not fitted to the screen correctly, like my contacts list and the lock screen is cutoff 3/4 way thru the clock on bottom. Ill keep playing with the settings when I wakeup I just wanted to check I didnt miss something or install it wrong, like a lingering file between the 2 versions caused an incompatibility. Other then that its pretty sexy sofar

[Q] Removing ads, an app that sticks?

Morning all.
So i'm on a rooted 4.3 sense 5.5 Rom but can't seem to get rid of ads.
I've tried AdAway 2.8 and AdFree 0.8.66 but both work for a few hours then revert back. If I reboot as suggested my changes are reverted as if I never ran the program in the first place.
Any suggestions?

Which ROM are you running? Real stock, but rooted? Your problem is HTC system protection, it's reverts all system changes on boot or specific system events....
I'd recommend this ROM - choose the deodex ROM - the ROM includes a modded kernel which removes the protection.....
Or you could S-OFF, but read this first!
Have fun!
Any issues, let me know!
Morning,
Yeah the deox ROM is the one I'm on thanks to your recommendation.
Originally I could never get Xposed or SuperSU to work but ever since that ROM, and the SuperSU mentioned in the post and Xposed 2.4.1 these have been fine which is why I wondered if maybe there were updates available for the ad away apps.
Is there a way of re-flashing the kernal without taking the ROM back to the initial setup?

Before we go to flash city, try this version of adaway https://db.tt/nVzVc7m5
You may have to try and apply a few times, if it gets stuck on applying, reboot and try again
yeah that's the one i have.
Is it as easy to apply the host files from recovery or bootloader if flashing the kernal is tricky?
Thanks again for your help, you're becoming super helper guy for me!

You could have the generated hosts file written to an alternative location by setting it in preferences - then move it manually.... BUT you shouldn't need to....
The kernel is integrated into the ROM, there isn't a custom ROM available to flash....
Can you screenshot the errors you get, and also go to supersu and select full logging for adaway, once done, try updating and applying.... Send the supersu logs please!
Sent by my favorite carrier pigeon.... hope he comes back.....
Eugh, now it appears ad-away has taken a turn for the worse.
Removed, rebooted, reinstalled.
See attached. Computer sez no.
Worth a complete re-install of ROM?
Do you have Titanium Backup Pro? If so.....
Remove the app from supersu.
Force Stop the app via apps in settings.
Convert the app to a system app using Titanium Backup (or an alternative app that converts apps system apps, search the store).
Start the app again, supersu will ask for permissions.
Restart your phone.
Try again!
Boy I am not having any luck with this whatsoever.
Ok so I reflashed my ROM with the one mentioned earlier.
Tried AdAway without any jiggery pokery and it applys successfully but then two hours later it's reverted back.
I tried full logging but then AdAway kept crashing.
I tried Titanium backup Pro and spent an hour watching it "Processing... Please wait".
I rebooted, Opened ESFileExplorer, mounted the System folder, copied AdAway into System\Apps, opened the app and it crashed.
Rebooted and AdAway is no longer installed. Slapped it in System\Apps again, managed to open with full logging and got the attached.
I think I'm just destined to have Ad's on a few apps. It just keeps reverting when I reboot.

Right, I now recommend this rom (sweet updates on the way to!!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616780
Install this from Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Install adaway....
I found the easiest solution was to install a custom /etc/hosts file, search google for "/etc/hosts adblock"
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597332 , it works for me with xposed.I am on stock 4.3 rooted. I have tried adfree, adaway, manualy edited hosts but no succes.
