I just go it working yesterday with TnT Lite 1.03, but it will not work with TnT 2.0. Mega, mega bummer.
It worked fine all day after installing the wifi tether app and tested several times after reboots of the Incredible and the Gtablet.
Same as before I got it working. Does not see the Incredible.
UPDATE:
Installed another version from the wifitether site (Incredible 2.1 version). It connects, but not consistently.
Not sure what the issue is. I do notice that when it does connect a "Wireless Tether - AC disabled" pops up in notifications. If that does not pop up in notifications, no connection.
TnT 2.0 works with my wifi tether on EVO.
Wifi Tether v. 2.0.5-pre11.
I think it has to do with the fact that Android in general has an issue with tethering to devices that broadcast in ad-hoc mode instead of infrastructure mode.
For example, using Wifi Tether for Root Users app from market, my Galaxy S cannot be seen by the G Tablet. Neither can my Hero. Because this app (according to its documentation @ google code) uses ad-hoc mode only. (see here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=11)
But when I use the Samsung built-in "Mobile AP" checkbox (it's in settings on the Galaxy S), it works perfectly; the G Tablet sees the phone and all is well. Because it uses infrastructure mode.

i'm gonna upgrade to 2.0 tonight. i'll let you know if mine still works.
Check your device specific version of Wifi Tether. Evo has an infrastructure mode.

I haven't done anything special. The settings are pretty as is when I installed it.
Have you checked to see if you can connect another device to the Evo first?
Here are my settings:
wifi encryption enabled
changed the passphrase
changed the ssid
Channel is 11
Access Control is enabled
lan = 192.168.1.0/24
let me know if you need any other info.

hi
i have the same setting on wifi tether app on my EVO i am able to connect and browse internet but in about 5 - 10 minutes the connections drops. By drops i mean it still shows connected but i am then not able to open any webpage at all. it keeps telling me web page not available.
Do you have the same issue?
This is all about the infrastucture mode. I would recommend trying to find the mobileAP app/mod for your phones. All of the galaxy s phones, even the stock 2.1 roms can be modded to have this mobileAP added, etc... Pretty much any phone that has at least 2.1 I'd look in the relivent xda forum for a mobile ap mod...

Trouble Connecting G Tab with Original Motorola Droid
I have tried everything I have read to tether my G Tablet to my original Motorola Droid. So far I have been unsuccessful. I am still running the original firmware with Tap N Tap, but I am also running Launcher Pro. I have rooted both the G Tablet and my Droid. I have tried Barnacle Wifi Tether and Wireless Tether. I also installed Update 2967 that was pushed to my tablet on 22-Nov. Could that have messed me up? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

have you tried the two independently of one another? meaning, have you made sure the gtab is able to connect to a regular old wifi ap? have you checked other devices tethered to your droid?
I don't think the update would have / should have messed up your gtab's ability to connect to a wifi point.

My iPod touch works well with Barnacle on my Droid. Also, my G Tablet works well with both my Netgear Wirless G and D-Link Wireless N routers.
UPDATE: I realized last night that my files were not being overwritten with the modified ones, even though I was telling Root Explorer to replace the existing ones. I will delete the old wpa_supplicant.conf file before copying the modified version next time, to see if it makes a difference. Right now I am restoring everything that I had on the GTab little by little after frying my wifi settings last night. I couldn't get it working, so I did a factory reset and lost everything.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Yep. That was my problem. My modified wpa_supplicant.conf file was not replacing the original one. Once I deleted the old one manually, and copied the modified one in its place, it worked. I can now tether to my original Motorola Droid. I am using a program called AdhocAble to switch easily between two different wpa_supplicant.conf files (one for adhoc, and another for infrastructure).
I have an EVO but I get stock on obtaining ip address - any suggestion?
Works flawlessly tethered to my DX.
Hey all. I recently installed TnT 2.2 and although everything was working well I am not able to connect to Wifi Tether of Barnacle. I am of the understanding that with TnT 2.2 you can see an Ad Hoc network and it should work well. My issue is that I see that Ad Hoc network off my phone however it just sits in "obtaining address" mode and will not let me connect.
My GTab will connect to my home wifi just fine and I already tried turning everything off and on multiple times. Any suggestions?

I've written multiple writeups on How to connect Adhoc for Android devices and luckily the GTab is one of the easiest... All you need to do is replace the /system/bin/wpa_supplicant with the one in the package in this link;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
as the GTab runs v0.5.11 of wpa_supplicant so this is just a direct drop in... then Adhoc connections will show up just like Infrastructure AP only with '*' in front of their name... dynamic just click to connect just like an Infrastructure AP...
Thanks! But...
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
I just had a couple more if you don't mind. I read through the thread that you posted. I'm still confused about one thing...so the TnT 2.2 ROM doesn't already have the correct wpsupplicant file because I can view the adhoc running off my Droid Incredible it just will not actually connect? It sits in "obtaining address" mode.
Anyway, I tried the two workarounds I thought I found. First, without copying the new file, I tried using static IP but while using both Barnacle and Wireless Tether from the Android store neither connected.
Second, I tried dumping the wpsupp file from the thread you pointed out however I don't have permission to delete or copy files either through the Root Explorer on my GTab or via my PC. (I did download FTP Server app for the GTab so I have been able to copy and paste files on my GTab via my PC in the past).
I'm sorry for all the confusion. Like I'm sure you've heard many times before, I'm not only new to Android but no the most computer savvy guy out there. Any more help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

TnT Lite 2.2.x has this file already, so something else is going on. I think I added it back in 2.0.2 or 2.0.3.
Hey Roe...
I figured that was the case. I am now wondering if it's something my my Droid Incredible. Like I said, I can view the Ad HOC on my GTab however no matter what I do it simply will not connect after attempting to obtain the address.
I guess I'll keep messing around. If you come across anything let me know!
Thanks again Roe. And by the way, I REALLY appreciate your work on the flash. It works great!!!!
To get my ad hoc working on my droid I had to turn of the access control settings. Barnacle and wireless tether couldn't work with it set. Some builds aren't able to use it. I'm running cyanogen 6.1 on droid 1.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did find a work around though. A guy on another site demonstrated how to hack the Droid Incredible so I can turn on the 3g hotspot already inherent to Android 2.2 without getting charged. It works great! Guess I will have to see if that's the case. Thanks again.
I love my Motorola Xoom. It is almost a perfect device, but the only thing that is destroyng my pleasure is my not being able to connect to my phone's hot stop. I have downloaded "Mobile Wi-Fi Router from the OMarket. I am able to connect to my phone through my desktop PC, but MyXoom tablet is not able to find it. Please fellow Xoomers help me fix my problem.
I was having the same problem.
The old WiFi tethers broadcast in ad-hoc networks, which android can't see.
I downloaded the newest version of WiFi Tether and it can broadcast in infrastructure mode and my Xoom was able to connect to that.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Drains the battery on my Epic pretty quick though.
I check the post but I do not see a download for a HD2. Do you know how my phone might be able to work? Thank you.
I just used the v3.0 one and it works perfectly on HD2 - no problem connecting to WiFi hotspot
I downloaded the app on my HD2, but the app is not compatible. Is it possible you could walk me through? Thank you.
IIRC I just downloaded it and side-installed the apk as one would any standard application. I think you probably need to be rooted however. What rom are you running on your HD2?
I am running the original 6.5 windows mobile.
That explains things - the application is an Android app as denoted by the .apk extension and therefore won't install on WM 6.5.
I left WM roms far behind. As soon as Cotulla released his magldr and the first NAND Android rom (31/12/10) I've never used another WM rom. Just flash your HD2 to a NANDroid rom and problem solved. If you want to stick with WM though you will have to look for another solution that runs on WM.
I'm not sure that there are any WM WiFi solutions that use infrastructure mode as it seems they only work in ad-hoc mode. If you don't want to flash your phone then you will need to get the Xoom to recognise an ad-hoc connection. I have seen some posts on this forum of people trying to do this but AFAIK they haven't succeeded yet.

Same here. I bounced back and forth between WinMo and Android on my HD2 during the SD card months, but when Magldr came out I went green and never looked back. Still, while I was in WinMo I looked and looked for a ROM that could do infrastructure mode (for my PS3, Wii, etc.) and had no success. It has to be enabled at the driver-level, and it looks like the newer Android drivers for the wifi chip in the HD2 support infrastructure mode and the old WinMo drivers don't. To make matters more depressing, the drivers aren't open source (as far as I can find) they're only distributed as binary modules, so we can't easily tweak the driver to enable the mode in WinMo.
Short answer, while nothing is impossible - this may as well be. Welcome to Cyanogen Mod 7, my friend.

Ad-hoc WiFi connections now supported apparently - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033314
The solution is upgrading to Windows Phone 7 which has WIFI that transmits in infrastructure mode or if someone here is kind enough to create a downloadable WM7 WIFI Reuter cab compatible with Windows Mobile 6.5.

googled that before, I can find PC to PC and mostly for windows XP, but nothing on how to create a bluetooth bridge to the transformer ):
Your hero is rooted right? Mine tethers over Bluetooth fine using 'wireless tether for root users'.
Running rooted 2.3.3 on the hero, the updated transformer cant see airshare adhoc network. Wirelessteather also failed in the same way.
Wirelessteather does work with bluetooth.

Did you have any success in the end?
My Transformer's just arrived, and I'd like to tether to my rooted Hero, but can't figure it out.
If I choose WiFi mode, the Transformer can't see the Hero in the list of WiFi networks.
If I choose Bluetooth mode, I can pair the devices, but then what? How to I create the network connection? In Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Tethering & portable hotspot I turned on Bluetooth tethering, but it's not clear to me if that's to allow the Transformer to be the hotspot (i.e. server instead of client).

This has been a problem for many of us....it has been discussed in a few other threads also. Honeycomb (by default) won't connect to adhoc wifi networks.
I will donate to anyone who can create a hassle-free turnkey solution for this. Many of us have Android phones that are rooted, so a solution would benefit many. And I am using a Tilt 2, whose Android ROMs do not support BT. So this tethering solution needs to support wifi.

I'm also using wireless teather, only I am feathering it via wifi. It works fine.
Success!
I reverted my Hero to the previous ROM I was using, FroydVillain 1.7.2, and now I have Bluetooth tethering working.
Once the devices are paired, on the Transformer screen in the Bluetooth settings, where the Hero shows up, there's a spanner/wrench icon - when I clicked that I got the option to tether to it - this option didn't show up when I was using VillainRom v13.
I may try going back to VillainRom to see if it was something unconnected, such as rebooting the phone, which made the difference.
UPDATE: I went back to VillainRom v13 (Android 2.1) and it still failed to tether with Bluetooth. An Android 2.1 vs Android 2.2 issue, perhaps?
Can anyone else with a 2.1/eclair and 2.2/froyo device confirm this?
Have the same problem CM7(2.3.3)
WiFi or Bluetooth doesn't work.
I don't think we should see the "problem" as our phones. The issue is that Honeycomb (whether on the Transformer or Xoom or whatever) does not recognize ad hoc wifi connections. If that is addressed, this will be solved for everyone.

Here is what I did:
1. Disabled the WiFi on Transformer.
2. Enable WiFi-Tether on Phone (with Bluetooth and check the discoverable option in the settings before you start tethering).
3. Enable Bluetooth on Transformer and scan for devices. (If you already have it, unpair it first).
4. Pair with your phone.
5. Press the Wrench icon beside the phone (that says paired but not connected) on Transformer.
6. You will find a new option called Tethering. Press it and you're done.
Agagin, that's what I did and it worked for me perfectly. I have CM7 on my phone.
By the way, this exact method didn't work on my wife's Sprint LG Optimus S. Tried everything, but no way...
Hope this helps...

I guess Bluetooth is better than nothing, but supposedly there is a hack to get a Xoom to work with ad-hoc, so must be a way to get our Transformers to work with it as well. Guess we just need to play the waiting game. Cant wait to see what options we have in another month. I have the HTC Hero with CM7 and the Transformer, same issues with no tethering, though since im not a bluetooth fan, I really havent tried it yet. Wifi tether works fine with my ubuntu/windows laptops though.
How about USB tethering? Is that an option with our phones and the transformer?

Ad hoc tether is an issue for droid and lots of info can be found on the net and xda.
I have got a hero running villain rom v13 and can run wifi tether with a modified wpa_supplicant file.
See this post
Download the modded wpa_supplicant file, copy to /system/bin, set the permissions as shown and you can then see and tether to your ad hoc hero - dont forget to backup the original file(rename by adding .bak to file and copy to your sd card)
Obviously you need root.

Bluetooth tethering works fine for me using HTC Hero GSM, Wireless tether for root app, rooted using Android 2.2.1, CM6.2 based Elelinux Speedmachine V3. My TF is UK/WW version 8.2.3.13, bluetooth V6.1.2.
Confirmed Ad-hoc wifi doesn't work.
I'm one of those stupid ppl that bought the g2x way back when it was supposed to work on all sorts of bands and what not. Anyways I didn't keep up with the developing story over the spring/summer, went to the UK right after I got it, and after multiple roms/settings and reading a lot, found out US t-mo g2x baseband version apparently doesnt work on 3 and orange 3g networks here (or at&t in the US if i remember correctly).
Anyways i still need internet on my phone. I use a google voice number and when connected to a wireless router here, I could call anyone in the US via google voice and t-mobile wifi calling. It was pretty great. Plus its what i use to check all my emails, pay my bills, etc etc, so internet on my phone is pretty necessary.
We recently switched to a mobile broadband internet provider (connects to computer via usb dongle, uses a sim card on the 3 network). There is no longer a wireless router here. however, both the mac and win 7 home premium machines we have here work fine for internet sharing for other devices doin an ad-hoc wireless setup.
My problem right now is that I cannot find a ROM/mod/config whatever for the g2x that supports both 1) wifi calling, and 2) adhoc wireless connectivity hack that together would allow me to make/receive US calls from the network here. I've tried to setup different programs on each comp that are supposed to broadcast infrastructure mode, but they havent worked right or didnt work on win 7, etc. Besides, I use adhoc networks a lot and want my phone to have ad hoc connectivity enabled.
For enabling adhoc wireless, I've looked at some of the wpa_supplicant patch types for other phones and over versions of android, but havent found any type of g2x/2.3.3 .zip that works universally or separately. several i haven't tried because i'm not sure how much it could/would mess up the g2x.
I'm currently on Xboarder's 2.3.3 OTA tweaked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513 . As far as I can tell it currently doesnt support adhoc wireless networks. I don't mind moving to a rom with 2.3.4/5 or whatever so much, although I'd prefer to use something with the recent OTA, since they've been less buggy for me. I was doin the CM7 nightlies (having adhoc enabled) recently but also have serious APN problems with it which I imagine is tied to wifi calling not working for me with cm7.
Any questions or suggestions appreciated - I'm mainly just looking for a solid rom thing that supports 1) gapps, 2) wifi calling, and 3) wireless adhoc connectivity. anything else is superfluous at this point. also a working solution to establishing wireless adhoc connectivity on the g2x regardless of the ROM or not would be a dream (esp. after the OTA 2.3.3 update)...and as far as i could find not available.
Or, if someone has a good lead on getting reverse tethering or the baseband version updated to work in the UK (if possible), I'm all ears, but so far solutions in both of those directions have been difficult/impossible to track down.
There's a thread dedicated to this in the SGS2 forum. Maybe some of what's discussed is transferable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066102
one of the links provided in that thread included a how-to webpage for the galaxy S . the wpa_supplicant file provided there worked surprisingly (normally the wrong ones bootloop me). that is, replacing mine with that one worked on a g2x running xboarder's 2.3.3 ota for enabling adhoc wireless connectivity (as I am receiving internet connectivity over an adhoc network connection on my g2x).
however, wifi-calling/my account-device/ etc (t-mobile apps) are not working or not connecting, which issue i'll take up in the thread for the rom itself. the t-mobile APN is visible, which seems to be a positive thing.
also, the wpa_supplicant from the CM7 nightlies bootlooped it, although i guess might be expected to since the one i tried was from 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 i believe.
thanks for the help. think i'm one-step closer to re-establishing wifi calling here.
EDIT: wifi calling is working over the macbook pro adhoc network but not the windows 7 machine's network. the scope of the remaining issues seems to lie with windows 7 internet sharing and not the phone/rom. that is to say, the above wpa_supplicant file gives adhoc connectivity/wifi calling with at least one g2x 2.3.3 rom, and perhaps others. the general adhoc connectivity question comes up occasionally for different phones, and for 2.3.3 on the g2x it seems this is one solution.
