I recently installed Damageless' Rom, loving it so far, just one thing I can't stand (other quirks I can live with for now) is the dang calculator!
I miss the one from 1.5, it looked so much better. Has anyone figured a way to bring back the old style calculator, or is there a better calculator replacement out there? I only use it to calculate my MPG, so if there was a good program for that actually...
Also debate over both calculators is welcome
Thanks in advance!
i totally agree. the calculator from 1.5 looked much cooler. they should have left it alone (same look but maybe added more functionality
Download the free app called "Mileage". It calculates miles per gallon, miles per trip, average MPG, Best MPG, lowest gas price paid, highest price paid, etc.

I did but did u see he was expressing his distaste of the look and feel of 2.1 calc and the desire to have 1.5 calc back as well? anyhow...
did the dev change the look of the calculator or did google?
I am pretty sure it is an android change as I have seen the same calc in each rom I have tried.

Cool I'll check it out! Thanks
Glad I'm not the only one wondering why the calculator was changed aesthetically when it wasn't needed, or wanted! Angry letter to Google time?
There is a calculator called handycalc that acts like a graphing calculator.
It has conversions in it but it is a bit much if you want a simple calculator.

for real...I can't believe 90% of the people here worry about how stuff looks. you'd think we're on ppcgeeks or something.
Actually that is HTCs 2.1 calculator, the AOSP calc that Google put on 2.1 is actually very nice, both aesthetically and functionally. So raise the pitchfork against HTC if anyone. Honestly though it does irk me that the sense calculator is worse than default androids.... what the heck HTC?
I actually like the 2.1 calc better. Never really liked the old one.
+1 for Mileage, by the way. Pretty great little app.
I too like the look of the calc on 1.5 better, I was just trying to find a way to change that back myself.....I wish they made calc skins now...
we have a calculator?

Please recommend me a new handset as I'm getting the bug for a new one again and I'm a bit out of touch.
I've had just about every handset HTC has ever made since the very first XDA I.
I'm not put off by size (I love and still use my Athena)
Must be fast and good at playing video/divx etc
Prefer some kind of flash.
I kinda like the Pro2 but worried its just a pretty face and no big performance increase?
Also concidering a Hero but worried about Android. Can I transfer all contacts, calender etc over ok?
Suggestions on a postcard please
The HD2 LEO is the latest and greatest with Snapdragon! See it's section for details:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=532
But if u want a keyboard, then the TP2.
Touch Pro 2 is the best hardware keyboard device!
We always want more!!
Snapdragon in a few years will be nothing and we still want more speed, more performance......
I strongly recommend you to buy Touch Pro 2. It is more than just a pretty face. It has a tilting screen. It allows for optimum viewing angle when typing, it allows you to easily watch a movie without holding your device, and it's great if you're using GPS navigation in the car.
Thanks guys, any comments on the Hero?
Are they easy to mod and transfer contacts etc from WM?

All can be done (almost all )

Hey orb, maybe there will be no keyboard and just visual & voice interface!
Also, there will be Kryptonite Batteries that go a year w/o a recharge!
don't worry about Android. I am a long time WM user, and had a G1 phone for almost a year now. Android is a very very nice system with a lot of software in the Marketplace.
That being said, I just got myself the new Acer neoTouch.
1 GHz Snapdragon, good amout of RAM, nice 3,8" WVGA screen, WM 6.5, configurable accelerometer, nice design, good build quality.
I would say, if you don't need a keyboard and don't want to wait for the HD2, this is the best device today. it is very speedy, has good usability and seems reliable so far.

Last week, I decided to figure out which remote music streaming app is better - Audiogalaxy or Subsonic, so I downloaded both of them and used them for a week. Here is my comparison (+poll).
Audiogalaxy Vs Subsonic – Fight! What’s Your Favorite Android Music Streaming App? [Reviews, Poll]
Which one is your favorite?
I have been using subsonic, and like it a lot. Does exactly what I need.
Never tried Audiogalaxy tho.
-Swyped away on my addiction
For me it has to be Audiogalaxy, mostly because the cons of AG (oooh, it's Gold) are things I can live with while the cons of SS (ooops, not such a great abbreviation) are a bit too far a stretch for me to live with.

Yeah, I realised about two hours after I posted that there was a good reason I failed Chemistry but it was too late then
I am currently 'played' with Subsonic and must say, I think it has me convinced, so I'm now only using it ;-)
I ma hesitating between both (Granted given the price I could buy both but just don't want to waste money on that for nothing, not even to say testing time)
Which one do you guys prefer the most for your Tab ?
They both look quite similar to me, but without having experienced both I guess they both have their downside and upside...
I come from a TP2 with Sense 2.5 and I am missing the look and feel of it
I prefer Beautiful Widget. Granted, i dont use backgrounds so I can stretch it across all columns without the background looking morphed

OK, thanks !
Anybody prefer Fancy Widget for any reason ?
Looking for more input from users of these two app. Dont want to spend the $ on one or the other then find out I like the other
I also prefer Beautiful Widgets. Comes with a lot of useful widgets, and just seems generally nicer.
However, I recently started using Go Weather, which is free, and that's pretty good to if you're just looking for the main home widget.
So, decided to try this launcher...priced at $14.95 I was skeptical. Love what it adds to my Tab experience however. Yes, definitely overpriced...but totally changes your Tab to eye-candy goodness.
Loving the Message widget, totally dig the 3D carousel effect. The World Clock widget is fun, and the whole thing gives my Tab a quasi Honeycomb feel. (in that it's much more flashy to show off, and some of the widgets are great!)
It's a bit of a memory hog @ roughly 90mb usage...but I tend to keep things skinny usually anyways, so no ill effects.
EDIT: I can't help but notice how lag-free this launcher is. I truly expected something so flashy to come with bunches of lag...so not the case. Amazingly smooth.

LOL true...still I don't mind tossin $15 to something that makes my Tab turn a few heads & make things more enjoyable to use!
I'd give it a shot if there was a free trial..

Hrmm, it looks ok, but definitely not worth $15, if it had more skins for each "page" maybe id think about it, can you make your own skins for it? If you can id be interested as i could make a honeycomb-ish one.
let us know what the battery life is like with all that home screen animation. Also, what ROM are you on? Did it install like a regular Home app like LauncherPro? Are you able to switch between this and other home apps?
Oh and would you mind taking a video of it on the tab? How does it look in landscape mode?
IMO everything ist too big. Icons, Widgets, etc fit better on smaller screen sizes.
I uninstalled it. Its very, very nice but i wait for a tablet-optimized release!
from the brief go I had with it , I couldnt get it in Landscape lol..
I gave this a quick try. And its pretty crap to be honest. I couldn't get any of the 3d Widgets to work, should be 2$

Right I used SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 on my Nokia N97, there were really lots of skins available.
I thought Samsung Galaxy Tab was not supported yet ?
They say its not supported for tablets because they're working on a tablet specific app.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
Just gave it a try. Not worth those 15 bucks. Even more if compare to LauncherPro (which is a LOT more configurable). It could have been a nice shot for a cheaper price, but beside those 3D effects it doesn't relly offer anything more than Launcher Pro or any other launcher in the market. I have LP running both on my Galaxy Tab and Desire HD and it is way better on both devices.
I've bought it, but have already installed. I agree that the graphics are to big for the G Tab. I had other problems too. Like when I click on the time it doesn't open the clock. Same thing with the alarm...
You can't customize the panels. Most of then are the way they idealized it, and you can't change. The carrousel is beautiful but not that useful. It doesn't compare to Launcher Pro or ADW in terms of customization.
Way too expensive!

Battery life seems unaffected, I haven't noticed a dip from normal. I'm running Overcome Rom, OC to 1.4GHZ. Yes it works like any other launcher, can switch back and forth as you'd like. Currently it's only designed to work in portrait mode. I imagine a Tablet version will be coming, that will make use of landscape mode.
I'll see about making a short video of usage on the Tab.
I think it makes the tab look like a cheap knockoff with the big clunky graphics lol

"Not supported" isn't the same as "doesn't work on it". It runs fine. Maybe it's not Gingerbread compatible.
All of SPB's apps are overpriced, I feel this should be only $10, it is quite good although it's not without its limitations, and its massive memory footprint.
Ill probably wait for the tablet version with a landscape mode before getting this. Wouldn't want to show it off to my iPad friends , only for them to turn it sideways and see it doesn't work that way.

My Optimus 3D arrived today after ordering online yesterday on pdashop.be
It's a lot faster than my LG Optimus 2x and the software is a lot better than stock on my Optimus 2x everything so far runs smoothly.
Loving the 3D video and pictures, really amazing depth!
I tested a few SBS 3D MKV and they all runs just fine first time you need to select that they are 3D but after that you can just click and start, also tested a few MKV series with .srt subtitle files and they worked just great!
Tested a few emulators like snesoid and n64oid (this one runs very slooow on a HTC EVO 3D) they run super smooth!
Installed launcherpro because I use it on all my phones, and that runs great and I still can use all the LG widgets!
In bright sunlight the screen is still very readable, the viewing angle is also very good, EVO3D viewing angles seem to be not that great.
Tonight will connect it to my TV and projector to do a few tests.
Also will try to run some SDK samples I compiled at home.
Very Happy with this phone!
Updates:
Tried Samurai II Nvidia only game with Chainfire 3D and Nvidia plugin and it works smoother than on my Real Nvidia phone
Multi touch test: 10 finger input works great!
Tested on 3D tv and it looks very nice indeed, All my mkv normal and 3d worked great, only things that did not show on the 3D tv were the included files like B-Boy Beats and Coral Dreams but they all show a Green unlocked symbol?
My compiled 3D SDK sample also ran great and a lot faster than on the emulator
i'm happy too
so are you a dev?

I am not really an android dev but I made small games before. I am planning to make a 3D game for my phone
Am finding it a tad laggy at times tbh just returned the previous one I had under a different contract and found another cheaper which came today.
I am finding its like it stops at times and its like it catches up and a few times have had a force close situation, anyone else finding this and are you all still using the stock launcher or a different one.

I just switched to launcher pro and all seems fine now, also used bloatfreezer after root to hide the lg home launcher.
I'm well happy with mine. Yes the battery is going to be an issue but see my post about extra ones and a stand alone charger.
I've had some great fun in the local Costa coffee house demonstrating this phone. Here's what happens...
I said to the staff (I know them quiet well) "I'd like to show you my new phone, but if I do you will be so impressed you will simply have to get one". They reply, "what sort is it?". "It's an LG" I said. At this point THEY ALL turn up their noses and inform me they have iPhones
Eventually curiosity gets the better of them. "Go on then, show us this new phone".
I select the 3D gallery and start playing the sample video of the dancing guys.
Stunned silence, followed by wide eyed expressions and excited shouts of "it's 3D!". At this point I remind them "and NO silly glasses". They are BLOWN AWAY!
Customers nearby want to see what all the fuss is about.......same result, BLOWN AWAY!
They ALL want one, they are ALL wondering how much it cost, where can they get one, how can they escape from new contracts and get this WONDER PHONE
My reply to "how much" upsets them big time.
Guys, we got a ground breaking phone here, no question!

Fantastic story I bet you had smug mode well and truly then lol.
Hehe, i've been using the preloaded Kelly Slater Video for showing off. The barracuda floating in front of the screen is sick. I seriously caught one of my colleagues secretly ordering himself an O3D.
I really didn't expect that phone to have such an impact, but everyone (apples, nokias etc) was honestly impressed by it, not just by the 3D. Screen and build quality were appreciated as well.
