Hi,
I own a Nexus One and.. I love it. Though, I'd like more control; I don't like the regular home, widgets, apps and icons. So while I'm typing this I thought; why not create a list of the best apps/home/widgets/icons, except games, out there on the market.
If you like the idea, please send me a pm with a list of the apps/home/themes etc you think are good.
- Please send either a link with it or the complete name so I can find it and link it.
If this idea gets shot down, close the thread. If it doesn't, I think we can create a good list of apps for people that can't filter out the better apps on the market.
As you can see, I have put the focus on Home; it's where everything starts.
......Queue Crickets
I too would like to see a compiled list of the best-
Touchdown
Doplhin browser
Gdocs
Goggles
MixZing lite
Spare parts
Ultrasound (for driving my teenagers insane)
search for android network awards on google
Hi everyone,
I wanted to test the new AppInventor tool, so I created this app.
I would love your feedback!
WHAT IT DOES:
UniqueSearch is a single access point for the major search engines on the web.
With a single interface, you will be able to perform multiple searches on:
-Google
-Wikipedia
-YouTube
-Amazon
-Android Market
-Google Maps
-Flickr
-MySpace Music
-Lyrics.com
-Wolfram Alpha
Easily find info, media, images, music, video, lyrics, apps, places, offers, formulas... and anything you can think of!
APKand screenshots attached.
very much like the concept! speeds up my fact-checking
content-wise i would need: discogs.com, imdb.com, amazon.de
what i don't need (just as a comment): MySpace Music, Lyrics.com
would be great to have them all customizable.
EDIT: oh and i'd like to see a dark theme, puts on too much sore on my eye with all this white stuff
You like "Let Me Google That For You" (www.lmgtfy.com), but you don't want to go to their site to generate links on your Android device:
Now there is Let Me Android That For You, it will generate lmgtfy link, bit.ly links (so people can't see where are you linking to) and copy them directly to your clipboard and you can directly share the link to Twitter, Facebook, Messages, Email and many more.
https://market.android.com/details?id=nl.pullesson.android.lmatfy
EDIT: Added QR code by Bonzo.
The app is freely available on the market and not associated with lmgtfy.
HaHa .. I really like the idea of LMGTFY, but this would be more awesome.
Unfortunately, the new "Noob" video will limit stupid questions, thus reducing the chance of using the app .
Thanks!
Haha, great idea
Will try it out
Second
We really need this app for the n0000b.

Awesome app.
Any chance you could update bit.ly for those with API/custom domains?
This is handy!
Saves devs the whole spiel. I've searched for three whole evenings to find the answer to my question. People must learn it is out there. Just can't do one search, do a control f through the first page and give up. this will definitely help create a beacon for those who need something to set their direction upon. Without the evil words.
Great App and fun to use......This is forever on my device I can gurantee u that!!!!!!!!!!!!
QR code for those who like it that way.

What do you mean by this? I used an old code of Bit.ly, which I made for another app. Didn't check the Bit.ly api again.

bit.ly allows applications to send your username/API key and subsequently, associate the shortened link to your bit.ly account for tracking/analytics.
https://code.google.com/p/bitly-api/wiki/ApiDocumentation#Authentication_and_Shared_Parameters
Additionally, if you have a custom domain, it'll use your own URL for shortened URLs instead of "bit.ly". e.g. my short links are "jp1.ca"
https://code.google.com/p/bitly-api/wiki/ApiDocumentation#/v3/bitly_pro_domain
Applications that connect to bit.ly typically ask for the user and API key.
e.g. TweetDeck

Thanks and will look into it.
The java code I use uses my bit.ly api key.
Work in progress: LMATFY Home screen widget.
Edit:
Done, widget is added, but works like a shortcut. This is because their is no way to add a inputbox (EditText) to a widget. Will be updated when available.
Very nice!
Give cred to the real devs!!!
Ferrie goed!
I like it a lot, nice to annoy noobs (and other people ftm)

Now available on the market: v1.4
You can change the bit.ly userid and api key, just by pressing the menu button -> Change Bitly settings.
Have fun.
Now available on the market: v1.5.1
Change the LMGTFY options from the menu options and change it to your desired language or google app, like Dutch, French, Spanish, LMGTFY Apps, LMGTFY Finance, LMGTFY Maps and many more.
Have fun!
Is there a app that gives notification of the Google Music free song of the day?
Similar to how this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apperhand.amazon.appstore.free.app.of.the.day
Notifies of the free Amazon App Store free app of the day?
Sent from A Team Kang Powered VZW 4G LTE G-Nex
Yes Please! ...and how about all the other free songs on Google Play Music?
I second this inquery and move to inform of possible solutions for google music free song of the day/free song collection/antenna free song , anyone?
free song of the day is listed on the main page:
https://play.google.com/store/music?hl=en
it is down a little bit after the 'best deals' section. On the free song of the day is a link for 'more free music':
https://play.google.com/store/music...theme_2011_10_29?feature=free-song-of-the-day
Their free song of the day, I guess actually came from blog Magnifier:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/
which hosted features for people to find/discover new music, and of course a free song of the day.
apparently the blog not only had a free song of the day, but had a segment called "Antenna" with free samplers, which seemed to be monthly 'editor picks', would be a good way to describe what it was before.... usually of a new release OR an independent / lesser known band complete with reviews....
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Antenna
Antenna, as with the 'song of the day' also merged into google play music, and is now stating "ANTENNA SAMPLER: Google Play's monthly free sampler is back with more new hip-hop, indie, electronic, country and Latin pop." which seems to be a selection of several artists, ~10 tracks, with an opening few paragraphs talking about that month's selection... it is found (took me a while) at the bottom of the main store page, on the left below the graphic that says "Free Music" (not the same link... which is misleading), the link is the actual text that says "ANTENNA": https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010140_ant_antenna_march
it looks like it is actually a 'collection' which there are other collections to the right of "free music".
The original Magnifier blog also had "Scanner", which provided free samples of different GENRES of music:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Scanner
In the Google Music store, I am not sure where to find this at all - however I do believe it is the same as when you first create an account (or maybe it was when first logging in, or downloading the 'music manager' desktop program) and it offered to add free music based on the genres you selected..... IF anyone knows where to find the free music GENRE sections within Google Play Music, please let me know!!
Also, The original Magnifier blog contained video interviews with various artists... new releases, new artists, up and coming, independent, etc... However, the video features usually contained a selection of free songs as well:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Video Feature
The link to the google play store works:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_videofeature_20100c2_vid_dr_dog
However, I cannot figure out where this 'video features' section is and how to get to them from the Google Play site... again, if you know - please let me know
And last, there was a 'free songs archive', a banner on the side of the page... I believe this is the same as the ''more free music" link on the song of the day:
https://play.google.com/store/music...011_10_29?feature=free-song-of-the-day#?t=W10.
free songs url from the magnifier banner link:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_theme_2011_10_29
However, it does not provide the entire 'archive' to view but it seems to change once a week?? I'm not sure....
SOOOOO There are SEVERAL placed to get free music from Google Play Music store.... some of them I can't even find anymore, and don't know exactly how they name the 'collections' as it isn't a generic link, but changes with each new weekly/monthly 'free samplers'....
For example:
Searching "google play music magnifier" came up with this result, an old video feature:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_videofeature_2011_10_26?hl=en
Searching "google play music antenna" came up with several different old antenna collections:
most recent -
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010140_ant_antenna_march
older results -
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_12?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music...iew_antenna_2010019_ant_antenna_october?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music...ew_antenna_20100d5_ant_antenna_december?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_11
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_20100fb_ant_jan_antenna?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010121_ant_feb_antenna?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_13?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_13?hl=en
These seem more like the original blog's "Antenna" in that it is about a single album by an artist, with a paragraph of info about the artist/band:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2011_10_27?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_10?hl=en
Either these (a specific artist on Antenna) or the "Video Features" with free songs to download -I think- are related to all the albums titled:
"(Artist Name): Live at Google" by (Artist) or simply "Live @ Google" by (Artist)
Which so far seem to all be free... Also, all the album 'cover art' for these albums also have a similar grey bar that says "[email protected]" as if it is the album name, regardless of which of the two album titles above is used.
Other than being able to make out the year (2012) and dates on some of these links, and then not using the year anymore on newer ones but a 2010xx link of some sort, I can't seem to make sense of how to check regularly other than going through the google music play store and hoping the Antenna section is there and hoping I can find out where to find the Video Features section...
Of course all the links have "/music/collections/series_overview_".... in the url, however I have seen nothing to indicate searching collections or finding links to 'series'.... Again, if you know something I've missed - please let me know!!!
Hopefully there is a program / app or something that can inform (or possibly automate the 'add'?), for at least the free song of the day? As that seems to be one of the many sources of free music on Google Play Music that would be easy to locate and has a 'feature=free song of the day' URL that likely(?) stays the same...
thanks for any help guys! :fingers-crossed:
-Ben
Can you please shorten that text, its confusing, please tell us what you want instead of 9000 lines of text :/

I know it's been a while since you asked, but maybe some else will stumble across this thread looking for it.
I have written a free app just for this. It is called "Free Song of the Day" in the Play Store. Search for FSOTD or download it here;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.taggahertz.freesongoftheday
I would really appreciate any feedback. I have just released it and I am sure there could be some improvements. I will even be willing to send you a premium version of the app for free if you PM me and are willing to test it out.
Also, if anyone has any good ideas on how to promote Android apps to get more downloads, I'd be more than interested. Thanks.

Looks interesting but not available in the U.K. I would also suggest you create your own thread to publicize your app.

Easily add reminders to Google Now without having to speak up or typing queries.
We can add reminders to Google Now by typing or speaking something like "remind me to..." followed by the description and time. But if we have to add reminders again and again this becomes a hassle to type or speak long sentences like this. This is where this Assistant for Google Reminders comes to the rescue!
This Assistant helps you to input your reminders in a much friendlier and easy manner, then it makes the perfect query and opens the default Google Now where you will only need to press the blue tick icon and you will be done.
This saves you the hassle to perfectly speculate the query which Google would want to listen to. You can also add a home screen shortcut on your device if your launcher supports it.
The Assistant does not act as a reminders app, but rather as a mediator app between the users and the Google Now reminders. The reason it uses Google Now reminder mechanism is that Google Now is a product made by Google and hence updated and supported regularly. Plus you get all the benefits like sync, availability, etc.

Like this , not sure about the icon though bro
Good work
Thanks! I downloaded the icon in a hurry, didn't give much thought to it. I made and published the app in only few hours
In your work on this, did you discover a way to create a shortcuts to the list of reminders? Both the google app and Inbox can interface with the reminders, but creating a direct shortcut has proven difficult.

I haven't looked into this, but there must be a definite Activity (screen) for this. Maybe the ROM developers would know.

I've looked, but havent been able to find one that works. Found one mention of the Google app having shortcuts on 7.1.1, another mention of the reminder creation confirmation screen sometimes offering to place a shortcut, but that's the extent of it.

If the app allows to create shortcuts, then someone might be able to get it. Not that it may happen soon, but it is there in the device, so it doesn't look entirely impossible.
