cooking problem - default theme

hi, i made theme for my rom and i want to make it default, so i made rgu with registry (software/today -> skin="\\windows\\mytheme.tsk") but when i flash to phone there is no change, everytime windows load a "windows default theme" (that blue)
what i should change to make it work ?

Are you i=using a kitchen? If so you need to dig out the default on that should be in sys/os i think!!! Replace the 2 files in there and when you flash you should have it as the default!

i am using ingenetics kitchen, yep i know but there is no Windows Default.tsk in SYS/ROM

look for default_stwater*.bmp . Thats your background for the default theme. You then have to update all the registry entries for this, and that will be in a .rgu someplace. Go pull apart a .tsk file (any program that can pull apart a .cab can do a .tsk (since its really a cab)) and look at the settings there.

I'm newbie here...i'm trying to make a png picture into dll icon that can be used to change the application icon using the SK Shortcut Manager..
My question are:
1. Should i change my png picture into something else?and using what application?
2. How to convert those icon into .dll file?and what program i should use?

you need the software named "resource hacker" to replace the icon you want.

Normally, you need the .ico format for the icons inside the dll. And you can google to find the tool easily. Just as what I said, after you make the image icon and trsanform into .ico, and then you can use the resource hacker to replace.

Dev Question

How would one edit any of the .xml files without a schema file for control to un encrypt the .xml file? I have modified the ROM Im using as far as graphics and need to change the title bar or status bar fornt color. When I open the .xml file as I would normally, it is not readable. I am a 20 year web developer but this ROM stuff is all greek to me. If someone could point me in the right and correct way, I would be very thankful.

custom icon issues

I dont get it, I have followed all the tuts online about using custom icons but nothing works. All I am trying to do is change the start menu icon on my tilt 2 from the default white windows logo to the colored windows logo and keep all the other icons at there default. Is there a .cab file out there that I can use to do this?

Think a resourse editor and a custom ROM is required

Yeah, you have to obtain shellres.192.dll, unsign it, open it with a resource editor (I used reshacker), replace the existing logo with the new one, resign it, and put it on the device with a .cab or Total Commander. As Rudegar said, you need a custom ROM to do this, since you're signing the DLL with the SDK certs, and not actual certificates cooked into the AT&T ROM. More info can be found here.

Possible to remove "Start" icon and text?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, I searched but couldn't find it: Is it possible to remove or at least hide the "Start" icon and text from the upper left corner of the screen on a stock TMOUSA HD2? Seems unnecessary to have it there when we have a hard button for the same thing.

At least in WM6.1 I edited "shellres.dll.041D.mui", 041D is the code for Sweden so you have to figure out what code is your country.

it's very easy to remove the start icon in 6.5.x versions..
don't know whether this works in 6.5
(6.5.x is the one with the big bottom bar and start on bottom left)

I'm interested in this as well, but it didn't work out for me.... I installed SDKCERTS.cab, so that's not the problem.. :s

The no start cab in dafunk's thread worked perfectly. Thanks for this. (This removes the test not the icon.)

has anybody given the reg edits a try on 6.5.0?
I to think its pointless having the start icon in the top left when there is a perfectly placed hardware button

is there a .cab for changing the start text without flashing or removing it all together..

Sorry but i've installed sdkcert and no text, and nothing happened after on softreset.
