Droid Prototype - General Topics

I am in quite the sticky situation. I recently purchased a Droid Prototype from some random person I never met, however I did it through paypal and received all of their information. I then decided to sell the phone on ebay and the listing blew up engadget posted it on their blog and alot of other sites followed ( http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/21/purported-motorola-droid-prototype-turns-up-on-ebay/ ) I was pretty happy as I had many watchers and many bids, but then ebay took down my listing claiming that Motorola disallowed me selling it. I am currently in contact with Motorola they have all my information and are asking me to give back the phone and stuff. What can I do in this situation, I am pretty sure they deactivated the phone so it cannot be used on Verizon but I still use the phone on wifi to surf the net and listen to music it works really well, what rights does Motorola have and what rights do I have, the guy at Motorola i contacted said he is willing to get the authorities involved but I don't want any of that.
Thanks for your advice!

Odd?
I have bought a number of items from them and had no problems?
Hard to comment when you dont expand (pardon the pun) on your experience
I too have purchased from them and find them very helpful.
When i asked if the phone could be delivered to my work address if it was early or home address if it was late, it unexpectedly did come to my work address!
Very happy!
Expansys technical support
I guess the guy bought an Expansys branded (MWG) phone.
Expansys is very good at selling equipment and customer services related to sales in general but technical support for products they launch themselves is another matter. But I guess they are learning in the process. Very few "voluntary" support staff respond to enquiries on their forum and it takes a long time for the answer to really help you. But from what I read here HTC is not much better otherwise we would not need the help of all you guys.

Unfortunately they are "learning" the wrong way, i.e. in favour of profit over users. MWg support is a prime example - when they first launched their own products under the Ubiquio brand there was regular dialogue on the forums between customers, the Expansys/Ubiquio product managers, and even the TFW engineers, as well as actively developed firmware. Since the move to MWg, that's pretty much all dried up, and the whole of eXpansys' official forum support is done by one, very busy, employee (in addition to a few volunteer helpers who answer general questions).
On the other hand, that's still a lot more than you get from most other on-line retailers.
I use eXpansys sometimes for small purchases. Never had a problem.
It seems though from various things I've heard they are very good when everything is going right. When something goes wrong however....oh dear!
Just some random person with a grudge trying to take down a company. Woooohooooo! You fail!
I have purchased several items from them with no problems - they bent over backwards to get my diamond to me before i went on hols
Not the best
I asked a qu on the forum; was not even acknowledged.
I also asked a qu about getting my USB port fixed via their service; I noticed I had a few missed calls one night which could have been them, but I never received an email reply...

You never get response from them, thats my experience too.
You get less information how things will get handled when you deal with Expansys.
Good or bad, have seen other companies who take customer care serious.
Thats the point.
My first order went perfect from them, my next one was not what i did order. then the **** begins.

[Source] BACKFLIP MB300 AT&T USA > Rel12.1199

Motorola has posted the source for the backflip. Hopefully this info helps us get this phone opened up from at&t's crippling efforts. Thanks to nokternl at modmymoto for finding this!

Side rant.....
I really wish we had a motorola forum on XDA, and to all the haters suggesting we return the phone don't waste your time. Many of us are stuck with at&t for work or coverage reasons, and even locked down i, and many others prefer this to an iphone 3g.

Yes, it would be nice to have a board for the Moto. I only paid $50 for the phone, so I'm going to give it a shot, moving away from Blackberry after many dedicated years... May have to switch back after all the terrible things I've heard about my new purchase, should have done a bit more research. Also, a bit about my purchase experience with AT&FingT:
I want to start by saying that I’ve had the pleasure of working with ATT for the last 5 years. While they’ve had “decent” service, I still drop calls in the middle of downtown Seattle, downtown Bellevue, etc, just unacceptable.
We ordered a new Motorola Backflip, the first Android O/S phone that ATT has released. It released April 7th, and we ordered that afternoon online. The ads are everywhere, front page of ATT’s site, TV ads… $99 after mail in rebate with a new 2 year contract. So we ordered, and here’s the kicker. On the invoice we saw “not eligible for mail in rebate”. ??? The orders get placed through the Premier site, so I had to contact Premier to find out why. The answer was that we upgraded the phone only, not the phone and a voice plan. What? Ok, we already have the unlimited voice @ $69/mo, what more do we need here? Come to find out, it is invalid, because it just requires a $39 voice plan, but Premier would not budge on it!
Be careful how you order!!! Going into a store may be the best way to do it, or ordering by phone with a representative. Another thing that gets to me is how they bill for the phone. You can’t simply have it added to your bill if you are a residential (or whatever the term is) customer. I am also the telecom manager at work, and I can have handset purchases billed to my account all day long. I’ve been a “residential” customer longer than my company has had ATT service. My company only hosts 5 phones! What’s the difference here?
Ok, so I call in to order another Backflip, I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. Ordering for my workplace, so billing to the account is no problem. I called in, and was told that they would wave the activation fee and give me an additional $50 off. I had to get manager approval, so after that I call back in. The guy on the phone is trying to get $149 out of me right off the bat, even though I informed him of the huge TV ads, and front of their website. I was told “it might not be available in your area”. What? Its a national freakin ad! He looked into it a bit further and I only paid $49. So there you have it, call in or go in. And don’t let them try to weasel their way out of their promotion!
I second the motion... a motorola forum would be great. I have worked for At&t for the past 2 years and have had every phone imaginable including an Iphone 3G and 3GS and i have to say i actually prefer the backflip.

Although, I'm not stuck with At&t, I love them till the end of the earth... Kinda strange too.
Thank you for the find moosfist.
Also FLAR if you read this.... IM BACK!! its been a while and im back. Flar or any mod that knows me or not, ive been a part of XDA for a long time but took a leave of absense and please consider these earlier posts on having a backflip forum as I also have one and would love to see a backflip forum on XDA as theres no other site out there as complete as this. besides theres many phones that have android on XDA that can correlate with the backflip and vice-versa.
Thank you for your consideration in advanced

The problem is there isn't an active dev community for the phone. If we get root, that may develop. Unfortunately the backflip isn't a super phone, so the super developers aren't likely to work to hard for supporting it.
Actually, my suggestion would be to head over to modaco's android forum.. that way you'll get the best android support short of the htc guys over here. Modmymoto and modmygphone (same family along with modmyiphone, lol) for more support. I personally hang out here and over at modaco, and with the 3g I still play with (primarily for wifi playing of only a few games) I go to modmyi, xsellize and a few other sites.. so its never harmful to deversify..

[Q] Is bukas limited legit?

I saw the company posted an ad on here (POST HAS BEEN TAKEN DOWN) and this sounds like the old african prince email scam
Does anyone know anything about it though? I did a google search and really every website posted is their ad on another forum so it sounds sketchy.
Scammers!!!!scammers!!!scammers!!!
SCAMMERS!!!!SCAMMERS!!!SCAMMERS!!! Bukas Limited and Product Advance Limited and Rex Lawrence the CEO are not legit and all the same company/person. I ordered out of curiosity and a desire for a side business reselling items. They came back with an additional charge for shipping after the first Western Union. Then they used a no name shipping company called Daralex. That I am pretty sure is just a bad web page as not all the buttons work. Then they stated that they oops sent too many and tried to get more money. I refused and they said I would need to send more money to ship the one again. Needless to say I gave up at that point. I took it as far as I felt could be without significant financial loss.

[Resolved] [Q] is negri electronics trustworthy?

The only thing i can rely on is this: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Negri_Electronics
anybody have experience with them?
http://negrielectronics.com
I ordered a Lumia 820 and 920 from them and I really recommend you. I live in Mexico City and I haven't problem to my packages. They ship to a lot of countries via UPS and Fedex (I got my two phones by Fedex). They can help you with the customs in your country if you ask them. Five stars rated by me.

Reseller ratings, unfortunately, is not a good sample to seek accurate reviews from. 9 times out of 10 customers only use this site to leave negative comments. While only 2% of all orders actually leave reviews to begin with.
Reviews found here are more accurate: http://nel.ec/NEGoogleReviews
These reviews are taken directly from the customer, by Google Checkout, in their follow up email that is sent to all shipped orders. This will give you a better sample, and size for your request.

wow never expected a person related to Negri Electronics to reply to this thread.
Ordered 2 HTC Butterfly and they were cancelled without explanation
Last week I bought 2 HTC Butterfly, from Negri Electronics. At first, the site wouldn´t let me buy 2, so I bought just one for $ 779.50.
I came back the nex day for the other one that I needed, and saw that the price had gone up to $ 818. I really needed these phones so I bought it anyways. A few days later, I get a refund notice from the 2 sites I used to pay for my purchase, Paypal and Amazon, and no email, no explanation whatsoever from Negri. There is something very fishy about this company, I´¨ve been researching online and found several complaints about them.
The phones I purchased and were cancelled without any reason are listed as IN STOCK on their web site, if I were you I would stay away from these people, just my 2 cents.

Very sorry to hear about your issue. Did you ask anyone at NegriCare about these issues before posting on this board? Often times asking a customer care representative you are able to get an answer so your post on this board is complete. Instead it just leaves others in the dark thinking that we did something deceitful.
If you have an order number, you can contact [email protected] and you can check on the status. Here are some possibly reasons it was canceled.
1. You paid with Google or Amazon and the order was considered "fraud" and it was canceled. At this point no email is sent from our behalf.
2. You paid with PayPal for a color BLACK Butterfly, which is not released. At this point the order would be canceled after 30 days automatically. We do not have the option to extend that.
3. The order was canceled because you sent an email to request just this. In this case your order would have been canceled and no email would be sent.
These are all possibly scenarios. There isn't anything "fishy" about canceled orders. In fact, it happens alot. The screening process is quite involved and out of our control. Often times the customer would be furious with us when we didn't do anything. This is why it's best to contact the company prior to venting on message boards as it might not have been under our control.
Please contact us at your earliest convenience. It's never nice to be called "fishy" and we would like to make sure that you don't have that opinion of us any longer.

You will always find complaints if you look hard enough. We just hope that you are able to see past the petty issues that a few customers had and focus on the great experiences others have had - and posted about.
Here are a few 3rd party sites that collect reviews of Negri Electronics
http://nel.ec/Y8f2mS
http://nel.ec/ZH6Pqf
http://nel.ec/R7riBe
Please keep in mind that it's very difficult to get a customer to leave a good review even if they have had a great experience. Often times the only time a review is left is when it's negative. Of over 56,000 successful orders, only the above have left reviews. Of that population, look at how many are positive.
No
I had a misfortune to buy a defective phone from this web-store. After the return, multiple emails, delays, unreasonable and unfair offers, they have finally suggested a partial refund which I agreed to just to be ignored once again. Today, 7 months since return, our dispute is still not settled. I wouldn't call that trustworthy.
Something has happened to them. Their "contact' page is missing. and my replies to my existing email chain are unanswered for 3 weeks.

Need some advice

I bought an HTC ONE from swappa. The seller has sold one other item, an iphone 5s. He listed it in great condition but that was it. It was 260 bucks, I had good experience with Swappa so I bought it. When it arrived it was not stock, the boot loader was unlocked and it was running Revolution HD, would not connect to google services and was spotty on the data connection working.
I messaged the seller and he claimed not to know anything about rooting, or putting on a different rom etc, so I asked him if he was the original owner. He replied no he bought it about two weeks ago (I had bought it on 3/22). So as I was digging on the phone to try and figure out what was going on I saw files in the sd card in download - from 3/5 3/15/319.3/21 and so on. He also had pictures dated up to the 21st, and I found the zip for revolution dated the 15th.
I aslo found a downloaded doc for a insurance claim on cell phones..which set off a red flag. I contacted Swappa and told them these things and they thought it was concerning that he seemed not to know anything about flashing etc.
He replied in my sales thread to swappa that he could not believe they would just take my word for it that how do they know I am not lying about it..
SO..in the same sales thread i posted screenshots as proof, since he left screenshots of the phone on it..
http://imgur.com/NWO5yZ6
http://imgur.com/4LfQO5y
http://imgur.com/6CPau3C
You can see then above...and he still insists he knows nothing about it and then went off about me and the staff siding with me and I ruined his first sales experience and on an on but still insisting he knows nothing about rooting and images and roms
at this point I don't know...I am afraid he is going to file some sort of lost or stolen phone claim and screw me. His insisting he knows nothing about roms etc even though there are files on the phone up to the day before he shipped it to me..or do I just accept he got caught in a lie and keep the phone...
any opinions?
