My Fuze has had connectivity issues since 6/29/09. Best description is I use this phone online a lot for my job. First noticed that I wasn't able to browse anywhere. Would get an error message stating network not available or something to that effect. Same issue when trying to update the TF3D Weather. Also, at this point, I'm unable to place or receive calls. Status icons show I have service, but realistically, I don't. If I reboot (power cycle - sorry, I'm a PC tech by trade) the phone, it immediately shows no service. If I'm lucky, it will eventually get service and work for varying amounts of time. I had been successfully using the RRE 21234 v4 Series 6 Manila ROM since 6/3/09 with no issues at all. Worked great! I also tried removing/reinserting my SIM card and memory card with no change. However, I can put the SIM and memory card in my old Pantech Duo, and it works flawlessly. I reflashed phone for good measure with same ROM. Still same issues. I then flashed the EnergyROM RAPHAEL 20090629 Standard to my phone on the evening of 6/30/09. Today 7/1/09 it worked flawlessly for about 7 hours, then back to same connectivity issues. I am again forced to use my Duo for reliability as my job requires both phone and internet use.
1. Does my phone have a problem?
2. Should I try a different radio?
3. Should I flash back to stock and get a replacement? I purchased this phone on 5/31/09 new in an AT&T store.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Phone back to stock. Problem still exists. Phone is junk. Taking it back for hopefully a "new" replacement considering it's only a month old.

I got a used G1 almost a year ago, unlocked it so I could use it with AT&T and it had been working without any trouble until this past Sunday. I was running 1.6 for the longest time and never got around rooting it or installing mods. Suddenly, after I was on the phone for 2 hours, the G1 stopped receiving service. It was normal for the phone to drop service for a moment because of where I live, but after a couple seconds I usually get service again. I didn't.
I swapped out my SIM to an older phone and I was able to get service. So I figure it probably isn't a SIM card problem.
So I put the SIM back into the G1, browsed through the phone to see what was wrong and suddenly found that I had an "update all" button for the market. That's a feature only in 2.2, not in 1.6. I checked online to see if there were any updates to 1.6, but didn't find anything. I had no service, but a feature not in 1.6 on my phone.
After several hours of having no service, I decided to root my phone and install Cyanogen Mod 6. I thought maybe updating the phone might fix the problem. Hours later, I got CM6 up and running and used my brother's SIM to activate my Google account. It just so happened that when I was activating the phone, I had a small window of reception. After that, no service.
Monday I went to the AT&T store to see if they could help and my phone suddenly worked inside the store. I left it there for 15-30 minutes and service didn't drop, so I thought it was fixed. I left and just as I got home, my phone stopped working. So I drove back to the AT&T store to get a new SIM. Sad part is, my phone has service in the store. Again. I just don't get service anywhere else.
I got the new SIM, but I still didn't get service. My brother suggested that the antenna cable might be loose. So yesterday I went to pick up a screwdriver set that had the right size torx bits so I could open up the phone. The cables looked fine, but I pulled them out and plugged them back in. That didn't fix the problem. I still didn't have service.
Late last night, at the CS club at school, a guy with a G1 on T-Mobile put his SIM into my phone to see if it would work. After 5 minutes, my phone was able to connect. So I swapped my SIM back in, but no service. My G1 can see the networks. Right now, I can see AT&T under "Available Networks", but every time I try to connect, it says, "Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later."
I'm using a spare phone right now, but I'd really love to have my G1 working again. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same Problem
If it makes you feel any better.. 7 months later and I have the same issue. Been scouring the internet and XDA for hours without any resolution. Maybe AT&T is dumping IMEI #'s for devices not in their lineup? Older AT&T Sims seem to work though which is strange. Maybe this bump will get us some kind of response.
Hello there!
I've been lurking XDA for almost 2 years now, although mostly in the Android sub-forums. Having used webOS for a while and then Android, I decided to switch over and give WP7 a shot, especially since I still love my Zune HD...
I got a Samsung Focus from AT&T with my new contract and everything was fine and dandy until I decided to upgrade the storage on the Focus with an 8GB microSD card. I knew there were issues with memory expansion on the Focus, but I did a lot of careful reading to make sure I followed the procedure to the T and use the right memory card (Sandisk 8GB Class 2, reported to be compatible).
The rest/format went through just fine and the phone recognized the microSD card without any issues. I could install all my apps and everything just seemed to work fine, that is until I noticed that I doesn't hook on to the AT&T 3G network. I tried restarting the phone, resetting the device, manually entering an APN and in general everything I could have possibly done, but the phone does not initialize a data connection. I assumed it might have been the SIM card and got it replaced but it seems to have actually gotten worse; now, when I power the device ON, it shows the signal strength as being full for about 10 secs, but after that it just drops off and under 'Cellular' in Settings, it either shows 'no network found' or 'SIM error'.
I've tried searching to see if any one else has faced this issue, but haven't seen anything concrete. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Ok, I'm going to give you guys the whole background story just to cover all the bases.
I've had a Nexus S for about 6 months, never had a hitch. Rooted it, etc etc all fine and dandy.
About two weeks ago, I updated it to CM 7.1 RC1. So far so good.
I've always had the same Vodafone SIM card, which has accompanied me through a couple of phones. Last week, I went to London and bought a UK pay as you go card, to use data without roaming. Perfect. No problems whatsoever.
So, to make it clear, I never had problems with my original (portuguese) SIM card, nor with the british one I had just bought.
However, it was upon my return that I realized I had forgotten my SIM card at my friend's house. I quickly stopped by the Vodafone store at the airport, where they promptly gave me a new SIM, ready to use within a couple of hours.
Since then, my phone after a short period of being on, spontaneously fails to detect the SIM card/no longer recognizes it. I've tried scanning for networks in the settings, but it won't let me register again. It takes a reboot to get it working. Thing is after a couple of minutes or hours, it happens again.
I have since exchanged the new SIM card with a newer one , also from Vodafone, albeit a different store. Yet, the problem persists.
I didn't alter any settings between Portugal-UK-Portugal, so everything should be exactly the same. Does anyone know how to solve this or why this happens?
Faulty phone?
Faulty radio?
Faulty SIM cards?
ROM bug?
Any help is appreciated.
Luckily this is a curiousity question as the urgency worked itself out.
I have my Doubleshot connected to the Rogers network here in Canada, and I've tried other SIM cards before (i.e. T-Mobile) without issue. But this one had the representatives (and tier two support) stumped.
I walked into an Eastlink store (competing communications company although their roaming is done through Rogers frequencies) with a promotional flyer. We got talking about switching, and they offered to do a test to see if the phone is compatible. So I thought, hey, why not? So they popped an Eastlink SIM in my phone, turned it back on, picked up the network no problem. Well and good.
The problem occurs when she put my Rogers SIM back in. Boot the phone up and the network wasn't recognizing. No service. We went to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. The searching took forever then threw up and error. No networks to choose from.
The interesting part is that the Rogers APN's were present. I thought maybe the SIM card went bad. Luckily the Rogers store was across the street so we popped that into a feature phone, no issues. I then thought there was some weird (new) setting preventing it from connecting. So I booted into recovery and restored a backup from three days ago. No luck.
The problem ended up fixing itself, about an hour later, while waiting for the bus (after having given up). I made a few test calls to be sure. Since it's working now, it's merely a curiousity, but the issue stands: what would have caused this and is there any way to restore service faster? Using Tbaldens CM 10.1 if that helps.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Still very interesting. I find now that every time I reboot the phone, it takes a few minutes for service to be established. Long enough for Auto Pilot Mode (one of the apps I use in case I'm in the depths of big buildings) to be engaged. I may have to quarantine that app for a little while. Or just not reboot the phone.
My Rogers SIM is an older card. It would have been pressed in 2007 or 2008 (which is also why the fastest internet I can get on it is EDGE). It may be time I shell out the $10 for a replacement. For whatever reason, that just may fix this newly attained lag on connecting.

Just activated a new Rogers (LTE) SIM card. Booted up the phone, and service was recognized by the time I entered my login PIN. So everything looks good (as it looks like my old SIM was starting to die). I'm still stuck with EDGE, but that is due to the phone being a non-Rogers phone. No big deal there.
My already 3 years old nexus 5 is working great, except that I have some troubles with my simcard. My phone isn't detacting it sometimes in the middle of the day, without any proper reason and then I have to restart my phone several times to make it work again. I already tried taking out the simcard and putting it back in but it isnt really helping. I also have the problem that my phone isn't really accessing the internet. Even though the 4G symbol is there I don't have a connection, the only thing that helps at these moments is to turn on and off the airplane mode, that way I can access the internet for a quick time, enough to refresh a web page or send some whatsapp messages. I already tried to tape that area where the simcard is placed to make it more stable, without any success.
Does anyone have an idea what to do? I don't really want to buy a new phone since the n5 is working great for me.
Hey,
had exactly the same with my N5. Not sure if it's related to a securtity update or not. I was not able to get it work again. Probably it's getting worse for you with time. There are some threads around xda dealing with this problem, but - at least for me - there no solution yet.
regards
Same problem here since a few weeks.
If you have updated the radio to the last version, and if you have already tried and got the same issue with another sim card, then it may be a motherboard issue.
