How to develop apps/games for WM6 - General Questions and Answers

I wanted to added the topic of this thread but I can't change it anymore.
I wanted to link to a question of myself, on how to create apps for WM6. Any help would be appreciated.
Here a link to the original thread I created: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528528

Thank you! Most of the links just contain the advice to download visual studio 2008. I'd like to get an inside view on what I need to develop multimedia applications It would be nice if you could provide something like that, especially for WVGA resolutions, as there are alot of apps for qvga and vga but not wvga.

you can set the res in the emulator and design
custom what ever res you want
or you can dl the SonyE x1 sdk which comes
with a wvga emulator setup and apps you develop
would of cause work with all wvga devices unless
you spc made them to be panels

Thanks but I've got to sort out some other things first. It seems as if my Visual Studio installation got corrupt. I've got to find my DVD

PocketPC software synth and music studio for free!

Hi Guys,
On this site you can now download Syntrax for free: http://www.finished.nl
How do I know this? I created the program myself
Should work on all ancient and modern PocketPC's (except the weird square screen ones)
Enjoy!
Reinier
Excellent.
Does it come with sample sounds, or do you need to provide the sounds for the sequencer?
Hi,
No sampled sounds allmost (It would add to the size too much)... but a lot of preset synthetic sounds.
But sampled sounds are possible, so there's no stopping you from importing them!
Reinier
Will it work on the samsung sc3 processor.
euh...
if it's compatible with arm then it will undoubtedly work.
I used to have sh3 and mips versions of the software. If needed I can upload them, although I'm unsure if it will be the latest version.
Sh3 was really slow by the way... I can remember not many audio channels were possible on my ancient hp jornada. The oldest Ipaq however already was more than quick enough.

I'm using a touch diamond and finished.nl is telling me this is not compatible, is this true?
nice one, I got this before when I used to have a P910i
you have to register to handango to DL
Syntrax 2 Pro?
Hi there Reinier,
Glad to be able to chat to the syntrax developer.
I would like to know if you have any plans to update this application making it easier to use and perhaps moving away from basic analogue emulation or at least expanding the pallette?
I had it on my previous phone (tytn 2) and couldn't really get much out of it despite following the tutorials. I suppose i'm used to my pc programs and a full screen though i'm sure there's things you can do that work better for the much smaller phone screen.
I am not a developer/programmer myself but would be more than happy to come up with some suggestions and ideas for you to work on.
Of course time is money, so you should really think about making it a purchasable item should you wish to put the necessary effort in.
Look forward to hearing what you think in regards to this.
Simon Jarvis.
It runs portrait though. It would have been nice to be able to run it in landscape.
is it ok with the touch diamond? I got the incompatibility message from Handango too!
This looks AMAZING though & I really want to be able to run it !!!!!!!!!

Windows Mobile 6.1

Did anybody get their hand on this new operating system
here in the news
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/rumors/windows_mobile_61_coming_with.html
i have seen the video demonstrated this new interface for WM Standard edition (i haven't seen the upgrade for the Pro edition yet). They only change the UI and how the menus work, nothing else in the core OS is changed. so i guess this is a cosmetic change, dub the name WM 6.1
can u tell post the link where u watched the video
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=vid...the-new-palm-treo-500v-home-screen-navigation
Thanks Bro For The vedio
Looks to me from the video that this will be available for Treos first. Also judging by the layout of the UI, it doesn't look very compatible...
Only one way to find out though and thats to wait until someone gets their hands on one and dumps the rom...
I must admit though, I'm excited to see what can come of this though. Even if we are unable to use the rom version itself, I'm sure there are new apps on this one that would be nice to have on our Wizards.

Standalone WM6 Rom Emulator?!?!? Could it be?!?

I was just browsing the internet and I came across something VERY interesting... They say it is a standalone WM6 Rom emulator. I don't know whether or not to believe it but I know I can't try it right now. My XP partition is kinda small(40gigs) and my computer really doesn't have the Ram to run Vista anymore since I re-installed Norton 360 but I think this is something that deserves some serious attention here.
If this really works then we could potentially use this to test roms before flashing and hopefully avoid bricks in the future.
PLEASE, someone has to take a look at this...
http://www.chrisrue.com/funboard/comments.php?DiscussionID=11&page=1#Item_0
Nothing new as far as I understand it.
It is about Microsoft emulator (it has its own ROM images).
You can emulate WM 6 on a PC (with MS Visual Studio or a standalone emulator). I guess most of people know that.
*But you cannot emulate your own Wizard ROM*. This was discussed multiple times here...
Mirek
First, thanks for the linkage.
Before the release of the full standalone emulator package, I was able to use the Orcas VS beta release to install, then slide some pieces of the WM6 SDK into a rough "standalone" config. Thought it might be helpful for other folks looking to get some time with WM6 while avoiding any bricking risk to real hardware.
Since the release of the full standalone emulator package, including WM6 emulator ROMs, that linked post/thread doesn't actually mean a whole lot.
I've got some additional items on DEmu 1.0 and 2.0 using both WM5 and WM6, which can be found here:
http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2006/06/wm5-device-emulator-index.html
http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2007/03/device-emulator-v2-index.html
As stated already, the standalone emulator package doesn't really offer any benefits for cooking or testing hardware specific ROMs.
And many MANY thanks to the amazing technicolor pool of genius here at xda-developers. You've saved my bacon more times than I can count. So thanks for that!

Manila 2D / TF2D - WQVGA Themes anywhere?

Hi all,
Before I begin:
1. I did a search on these forums, didn't get many good results back.
2. I know about the Modaco thread ... and I've tried registering to browse through the posts there and download the links, but I've tried and waited for multiple days for that stupid confirmation email and it never came even after multiple attempts so I guess I need another way.
Ok...
I've got the M2D installed and running perfectly on my Incite, which is WQVGA ... the skins thread here are all for QVGA devices - does anyone know of a website that has a list of WQVGA themes?
Barring that, how do I convert QVGA themes to WQVGA? I've fairly handy with HTML and PHP and know some XML ... just so you know where my skillsets are at ... I guess if I convert some skins I'd post them here.
Any help is appreciated!
lg incite want to use tf3d or tf2d not being picky
i found one wqvga theme for tf2d
http://wm-themes.com/load/27
i read in another xda thread about a guy putting m3d and tf3d on his incite, said the 3d effects were amazing, and the phone already has d3d preinstalled.
but he did post not the wqvga t3fd and i dont know where he got it. nor was he able to find any theme's for wqvga for t3fd

Windows Mobile CAB archive?

A while back I found a link to a mediafire archive with something like 50 CAB's in it, for Windows Mobile 6.x. Does anyone know where that archive is?
It used to be bookmarked on my computer, but I accidently deleted it, so it's now gone.
I imagine that some of those CAB's are probably somewhere else on the interwebs as well, but I have been searching all day to no avail.
Also, FreewarePocketPC still has lot's of stuff available for WM devices, but a lot of it is intermixed with crap for Android(most of the Android **** that's clogging the site is just virus anyways), and Windows Phone 7, and some of the links are dead.
P.S. I have an archive of CAB's as well, I will be sharing soon, most of the CAB's I have are still available elsewhere on the interwebs, but with WM6.x getting older by the day, and so many things linkrotting as we type, it won't be long before the ever-diminishing set of workable programs reaches zero, and our beloved WinCE/WM6.x based devices are dead forever. So the more mirrored archives there are, the better.
NOTE: IF anyone wants an app, PM me, do not clog the forums with requests. NO, I do not have warez and paid software, I do not have any way to make your paid software work without paying, DO NOT ask for warez, if you do, your PM will be copied to this thread for everyone to see and laugh at.

1.) Opera Mini 5 - In download box below. Web browser for WM2003 all the way up to WM6.5.5, still works and because of Opera compression, it renders nicely even over 2G and modern websites are rendered nicely.
2.) UC Browser 7.04 - In download box below. Another web browser for WM5 up to WM6.5.5, still works, built by a Chinese company, not sure if it uses compression, like other browsers for WM, rendering quality is hit or miss depending on the site.
3.) Opera Mobile 10 BETA - In download box below. A newer version of Opera, for WM5 and above, still works, like with Mini 5, it uses Opera compression servers so it browses fast over 2G and modern websites are still nice. AFAIK it supports Flash.
4.) SkyFire - In download box below. Another nice browser. I am not sure if it still works, it uses SkyFire compression servers, supports flash. SkyFire as of 2013 was still available for Android, so it's possible the compression servers are still active. If the servers are not active, then since this AFAIK does not render locally, it's just here for historical completeness.
5.) ZetaKey 2010 - In download box below. This is a browser that is AFAIK still developed for WM6 and up. It supports HTML5 and AFAIK Flash, based on WebKit, so even without compression servers(which this does not use), it should render modern websites okay.
6.) Iris Browser 1.1.9 - In download box below. This browser still works. Uses WebKit, although it is not developed anymore, it does score a 100/100 on Acid3, has a pop-up blocker and supports NPAPI plugins just like Firefox.
7.) ZetaKey 2017 - In download box below. See ZetaKey 2010 entry. This is the newest version of that browser.
8.) TCPMP Finger Friendly. A great media player for WM devices. IMO it's even better than what comes on most Androids even in 2019.
Original link is still up: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
Or you can download it from the box below.
1.) Flexilis Mobile Security - Link in download box below. This is a once-popular anti-virus program for WM6.x devices. It is AFAIK the precursor to what we now know as Lookout on Android devices. I am not sure if it has new virus definitions, but then again, is there anyone actually creating *new* viruses for WM6.x anyways?
2.) ESET Mobile Antivirus - Link in download box below. This is another popular anti-virus program for WM5 through 6.5.5, although the WM version is no longer developed nor is it still supported, ESET is still around and still makes some of the best anti-virus software for Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android.
3.) FingerKeyboard - Probably one of, if not the best alternative keyboards for WM6/6.5. It is way better than the stock keyboard(although the HTC keyboard is decent).
Download it from the box below, or the original link is still active here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
4.) Esmertec Jbed - This allows Java midlets to run on Windows Mobile devices.
Get it from the box below or go here(https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667) because the original link is still active...
5.) Adobe Reader - View PDF files on Windows Mobile. Get it from the download box below.
Dude, don't you think you've been late with this thread for about 10 years?
I know maybe 3 or 4 old-fags here at xda (including me) who still have functional WM6.5 - WEH6.5.3 phones. And we are mostly "chiefs" - we cook our own roms and have all the necessary soft in our roms already.

I am just putting this out here mainly as a way a of preserving these programs for anyone who might care aboit them. Also, so if there might be anyone out there who still happens to have a device that can use these. So, sure, the thread is 10 years out of date, but thats exactly the point.
I'll take that bet...
Well I for one would love to see archives of old WM6.x CABs. I bought the HD2 In the first week it was out, and loved tweeking and fiddling with it until I had to factory reset it and remember where I stored the latest viable backup.
I must have crashes that thing a dozen times or more!
Well I never did get myself together enough to build a kitchen and learn to cook up some ROMs, but I had fun with all of the crazy and cool programs and apps. Cookie monster had an awesome UI Tweeker as I recall.
So yeah, I found the ol' Leo and charged it up! It's working!
I would love some links to CAB archives!
I recently bought some Windows Mobile devices just to play with, so I would also love an archive.
Finally somebody doing this. Thanks.
A bit late, but preservation is always good.
I tried finding games for WinMo, but every single link i came across was dead. (If somebody comments about piracy... WinMo has been discontinuted for, like, what? 10 years?)
If anyone still has any app installed on their WinMo phones, please make a backup and upload it.
I was a Symbian user when WinMo was still used, so i kinda missed on pretty much everything.
And you know what's the weird thing?
You can still find SYS files for Symbian all around the internet, but WinMo apps simply vanished.
So, yeah, if any of y'all have any app, just post it here.

I have a bunch on my HD2, I just dont know how to upload to here. Or anywhere else for that matter. I will look into a file share site. Any help would be appreciated.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ still operates with most links still working. In most cases it offers a primary link & a mirror link to download the Apps. On the rare occasion both links fail a web search on the App or developer name will usually yield a result. Only very rarely can I not find a WM6.5 CAB, registry hack, etc., that I want. I've been amazed how much is still out there. I've used the HD2 as my sole Phone/PDA for almost 10 years & by trial & error I've got it to be very stable (a screen freeze is now a rare & notable event). I recently added the new 400GB microSD which is so fast I can put most Apps onto SD that formally required Device Memory installation only. I can't speak too highly of this little device. And the screen is much more scratch resistant than my wife's Lumia 950! Cheers

When you tap the reply button and it opens up that new page where you write your text and stuff, scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments", tap on that and a new page will open, from which you could upload your files. :good:

I read that reply and I couldn't stop myself from adding the slight tone of distain at having to answer the obvious to someone as noobish as I. however, does said 10 post anti flake-o-noob rule apply? if not. Well, i need to go buy a shovel and dig holes for a living.

Rolled a 1 on search and found this. It had some good links. Not all function anymore.
Sites that still have some form of .cab files:
Freewarepocketpc.net
mpbus.net
mobile24.co
A good extractor for cabs and thier extension files would be nice.

Chill, it's no problem.
You could upload them to your Google Drive and turn on link sharing for the zip you made from the cabs. (And tap on "Everybody with a link: can view", not "Everybody with a link: can edit")
Then copy the link and post it here.
Also, thanks for those links. Really useful.
Having better achieve of cool apps and games still good for even the htc hd2 would be great for WinMobile 6.5
I attempted to reply with an outline of a project I am starting, and included the links to my dropbox file of HTC HD2 software, however it was auto flagged and i cant find the technical contact form as my browser is not allowing me to scroll through all the options in drop down menus and other pages.
sorry guys! I shall return when I can and try again.
Making a online archive with every possible cab categorized in smart way is one of my dreams since when I started discovering the world of technology and modding through this wonderful OS called Windows Mobile
The websites listed in this page allows you to search on old filesharing websites.
You can still find a lot of apps on
---Emule (servers +KAD especially)
---"windows mobile" and "pocketpc" sections on softonic.com (if I'm not wrong a con is that for each cab you want to download Softonic downloads a windows installer that then downloads the cab)
---install the webarchive extension on your browser and visit every old bookmark you saved in the past with the hope that the webpage was saved on the archive)
If I had the time I'll buy some webspace and I'll archive every WinMo app! XD (I would need less GBs than a single today's laptop hdd)

Well a lot has changed since 2018. I just went to freeware pocket PC and tried 10 different links and none of them worked and none of the developers still had a functioning website.

Actually, just dug out an old HTC Diamond2 that was once used by a relative, I was looking for software and this has actually been pretty helpful, I'm trying to figure out what these old PDA-ish devices still can do, I know that the few that can run Linux are actually pretty well supported to this day, but this one looks pretty much obscure so far, not a miracle, but I did want to play around with it
