Portrait view to Landscape view on HTC Touch HD - General Topics

Used to have the Omnia and you could at any time switch the view from Portrait to Landscape.
Cannot seem to do that with the Touch HD. Only allows that to happen in certain applications, like camera or Internet.
Am I doing something wrong...
Thanks
Chris
I posted this on the HTC site........nooooooooo reply.

BG4All for Manila 2.5.2011.3626

Does anyone know exactly which version of bg4all to use with Manila version 2011.3626.
The background on my phone looks very bad quality, and I can't find a good bg4all to use.
I have one that works, but there are so many versions, it is getting very hard to keep track of them.
Anyone got any news if bg4all will be updated for 2011.3626, or which old one to use?
Sorry to bump this, but which one is best to use guys?
I am using "grzegorz10 B4all Leo 2.02" on Sense 2011 and it does work. Though the background isn't of great quality...

Ok. Thanks mate. Yeah, that's my problem. I like the backgrounds to be the same quality as stock, and they just aren't. It's a real shame
As most chefs remove the wallpapers, it means we need bg4all, which, although it's great, leaves us with an extra program installed, AND lower quality wallpapers. Defeats the purpose I think.

Use this one for Portrait and Landscape: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=615072&page=11 or HDwall
I think it should work
I use the 2.07.531.6 test rom im only in landscape with Music and Photos&Videos tab. I tried 20 different cabs but no luck so far
The problem is always i get a piece of black, even when using larger size pics...
The black bar must have something to do with the newest version of Manila. As I never had this problem before.
I doubt it's anything to do with the size of the wallpaper either. As that should just automatically rotate based on the background.

3D Gallery in 2.1 roms

I know this has been addressed a bunch of times about landscape mode not displaying correctly in 3D Gallery. I just had the idea that the image distortion reminds me of an incorrect resolution....
Someone who knows what the hell they are doing to look into what res the app is rendering in landscape.
I would if I could, but i'm a software n00b.
it works if you start in landscape

yes... it does, but then portrait is messed up. Something is happening after rotation either way you start it.
okay, so my first guess was wrong. The problem lays within changing orientation....
Now what next?

Apps working in portait modeonly?

Many apps I have installed that are not honeycomb versions, while still working have some odd behaviours. The most common is that some launch in portrait mode even when docked and either don't rotate to landscape or only part of the app on certain screens will be viewable in landscape. When not docked it's not an issue as i can rotate the screen but it makes these apps unusable with the keyboard dock connected. Any ideas on how to force landscape mode?
Some examples are medscape, yahoo sportacular.....

Well, if it makes you feel better (probably not), there are some Honeycomb "optimized" apps that do the same thing (I'm looking at you, Nook store). Not sure if there is a way to force landscape barring a code edit.
Why Portrait...... The Market only opens and stays in Landscape.

Ahh, so it wasn't only mine.
Very annoying behavior. Makes me stop buying apps.

Yes honeycomb market is landscape only but the apps I refer to keep starting to rotate to landscape then switch to portrait so unviewable when docked as writing is sideways
I believe it is dependent on the app. I installed a volume manager to automatically mute when I'm in class and it only runs in portrait. I am pretty sure that when designing apps, developers have to decide where elements go in both portrait and landscape orientation and if they design only for one, then that's all you get.
Also, why DID they make the market landscape only? That's so dumb. Probably a topic for another thread though.
In many cases it'd work fine in landscape if the developers just would have configured it to allow it. A lot of apps could take the first step towards being "honeycomb optimized" with a one line configuration change. Some might need some additional graphics or layout tweaks, but a lot of the time it will scale things just fine in landscape.
And yes, I think it's just as silly that the Market is forced to landscape. But the Honeycomb market sucks in many other ways too (can't write reviews? Seriously???)

There is a simple fix for this that i have used on many apps. Does not work for all, so YMMV.
Grab an app calle APKEdit.
Get the apk off your device.
Load it in apkedit.
Go to the details tab and click on browse.
Find the AndroidManifext.xml file and edit in notepad.
Replace "portrait" with "sensor" or "landscape" and save
then click apply in apkedit.
Uninstall your app and install the new APK.
Should work.

True, but you can't update from the market anymore. And unless you are rooted and use Titanium, you can't preserve data if the app doesn't have a sync or import/export feature.

you are correct, but if the app doesn't work well in one layout or another that you want it's a minor inconvenicence to check the market once in a while and only update when something significant changes. then reapplh this fix. yes thd devs should be pushed go fix this. this is just how i deal with it, if you are uncomfortable with it then definitely dont do it and just send feedback to the dev.

[Q] How to get HTC Mail to auto-fit HTML emails and display images?

I have an HTC One X on AT&T. Does anyone know how to get the HTC Mail app to auto-fit HTML emails to the screen width, both in portrait and landscape mode? I'd also like to automatically show images, as opposed to having to press "Display Images" every time -- Is that possible as well?
Thanks.
I'm curious about this as well. I've dug through all the settings but I must be missing something.
Did you try double-taping the screen to resize while reading the email? That's what I do.... Not perfect but it works for most HTML emails. Don't have a solution for automatically displaying images.

That's what I normally do (double tab to resize), but unfortunately it's two additional taps and not the ideal user experience. It would be great to be able to auto-fit and auto-display images -- I just took it for granted on my last phone (iPhone 4).

I hav eno solution, but just chiming in that I'd like to knwo if someone figures out soemthing regarding the text sizing in HTC Email app. It's atrocious and often makes reading/reviewing messages nearly impossible.
Side note: have you noticed that when replying, the text shrinks to a more normal size? Doesnt change the fact that reading many emails is a massive chore. I've spoken with HTC support and they didnt think there was a glitch, but that it may be something they need to address in a future software update.
I would like to know this as well.
I actually stopped using the HTC mail app and i am currently using gmail due to no images just a wall of text
Anyone figure it out yet (4.0.4)?

[Q] How to disable BIG scroll in the desktop?

Hi all,
Hm actually this is not a question specficially for Desire S but for all mobiles using certain versions of htc Sense,
but I just don't know where to post it so, sorry for this..
The problem is I am really annoyed by the big scrolling in the desktop (Homepage?) using htc Sense interface.
That is, when you scroll (horizontally) fast and long (distance) enough,
instead of moving to the next page, it will rotate and rotate and spinnnnnnnn~~~~~~ and go back to the original page.
I am using a normal speed to scroll (for me), but it always spins....
And I really can't find the corresponding setting for this "function".
Anyone knows how to disable it?
Many thanks.
P.S. I am using Endymion V3.5:
