Samsing i770 (verizon)
While I find the phone very functional, the operating system and service notifications, alerts, warnings and informational messages are crippling (some of them modal).
I don't want to read and "dismiss" or "hide" or wait for timout of dialog boxes or notifications every time my phone does something or the environment changes.
I use ActiveSync with direct-push from my exchange server. Every time the phone connects to the boradband service I get a silly dialog telling me the phone has dialed Verizons broadband service... Who in the hell wants to see this stuff every few minutes?
I signed up for broadband access. I don't need the phone popup a tooltip to tell me ever time it connects. I can SEE the damn connection icon in the task tray.
I can SEE the signal bars in the Tasktray. I don't need a damn tooltip box to tell me that I have lost service. I don't need ANOTHER dialog box telling me
I can SEE the battery indicator in the task tray.. I don't want to dismiss a warning every 5 minutes when the phone reaches 20% charge.
I don't need to be told when I lose the bluetooth connection or it is turned off. I can SEE the icon in the task tray..
Etc, etc.
Furthermore, I don't want to have to go cycle through and dismiss OLD notifications about the battery and connection state AFTER the phone has been recharged or the connection state has changed.
Somebody please help!

Hi everyone...
I have a lil problem, at the moment I'm using the NEO ROM for Vox v0.9 [New XIP 20202] and every time when I'm using a Chat application someone calls me it ends the GPRS session. I finish the call and then would like to resume my chat but I then have to log off and back onto the application restarting the GPRS session.
Is there anyway or setting that after a call is finished, the GPRS session will resume without me going and starting it manually every time....?!
Okay, so I did a test and noticed that when you have the following registry setting changed as below....
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
Under SuspendResume, remove the string "~GPRS!" and replace it with "GPRS_bye_if_device_off"
This will keep your VOX from reconnecting the data connection. When changed back to the default "~GPRS!" setting the connection resumes after the call has ended.....
How am I going the get it to auto disconnect when I'm done and resume when being interrupted...?! Without going to the Connection Manager and stop the Data connection manaully....
Any ideas, anyone.....?!

This is my same issue. I want connection to be automatically restored if it was opened once the call has finished.
Also it would be nice if Outlook could disconnect immediately if had started the connection to do a check mail.
The main issue is battery life... plus recharging every time is quite boring.
Leaving the connection always on would be nice but it is simply not possible as the battery would drain out within 6/8 hours...
Would be nice for skype&fring&whatever even if mobile in standby.
OT...
How does blackberries manage to be always connected and last so long?
Also how does push mail work on bb? I see logs of pop3 stressed mail server by RIM server, is that connected to an IDLE imap on BB? Or is it a conitnuos pop3 send&recieve?
If pop3 (cpu intensive) then my doubt remains, if it is IDLE then we could understand what's with bb lasting so long
OT ooops!
GG
From what I understand the Blackberrys will use IMAP idle but when used with a Blackberry server aren't actually connected continuously. The Blackberry server sends a signal to the phone to indicate there is new mail, the phone then downloads the mail...
If I'm wrong then someone please correct me as messaging isn't really my area of expertise
I've noticed my TP doesn't receive emails when the phone is in stand-by, even if an automatic send/receive schedule is set. This makes it completely useless to me. I mean, what's the point of automatic send/receive schedule, if the phone will be in stand-by 90 % of the time (or for 2 hours straight)? Is there any way to get notifications of new emails even if the phone is in stand-by?
Thanks
Mine works
U have send and receive every 5 mns
Strange, it does work for me (on a POP account with auto send/receive every hour). E-mails come in at night, for instance. They just don't make the phone come out of standby or turn on the screen, but the white LEDs around the centre button provide a visual notification.
You could edit the notifications (settings -> sounds and notifications -> second tab -> new e-mail) for a more persuasive signal (vibration).
Are you referring to cellulair download or WiFi download? Remember that WiFi is disabled upon entering standby, unless otherwise configured using Advanced Configuration Editor. For cellulair download the right network connection must be selected if WiFi was used before. Are you able to receive emails on the proper automatic schedule if you don't put / allow the device to go into standby?
hotmail also works fine with the setting - update when message received (options set in windows live). In fact hotmail acts as a very good push service for those of you that want delivery of email as it arrives.
Hmm, thats odd. I have two IMAP accounts, and neither update when the device is in stand-by. I'm using 3G data connection to update. I sent myself an email, put the device to stand-by, and waited. Send/receive was scheduled for every 5 mins. After absolutely no activity in about ten minutes, I woke the phone. A little after that I get a sound & popup notifications of a new email. Also, the LED around the centre button start to flash. If I don't allow the phone to enter stand-by, it receives new messages as it should.
Well, at least it should work. I was afraid there for a while that this was a feature rather than a bug. Hopefully it'll get fixed with a ROM update at the latest. I'm using standard 1.90.401.1 WWE at the moment.
this was a problem we had with the kaiser....hopefully we dont have the same problem here...
Well, this is interesting. I turned off HSDPA/HSUPA (I have an upper limit of 384 kbps anyway), and enabled automatic send/receive when roaming. After this the auto s/r works also in stand-by. Good enough for me!
Hm hey guys,
I'm facing the same problem with my Raphael.
I get my emails forwared via MMS from O2 Germany. Problem that I just realized now, I only get them when I turn my phone on.
So if someone sends me an email at night, I get the MMS with it in the morning when my alarm turns on. Isn't too bad but still a little annoying - what can I do?
Any way for WM6.1 messaging to auto resend SMS/MMS if the message is originally sent when there is no phone connection and it is later restored?
I used to have a Motorola phone that prompted something like "Data connection not available. Do you wish to resend when connection is restored?" This would resend it if there was a connection without any actions from me.
I travel in places with no connection (like in subway). With my Moto, i was able to write a text message, set it for auto send, and would find that it would send if/when i momentarily had a connection while moving. This freed me from having to monitor my "bars" for a connection to send text.
I was wishing for the same thing. I've had 3 blackberries & the all do this. Pretty sad that WM6.1 doesn't.
My phone isn't rooted, and I'm having a major problem with the phone. My phone will not notify me when I receive emails, texts, or gchat messages until I turn the display on and unlock the screen. At that point it will update and tell me all of the notifications. This is particularly inconvenient since I never know when someone is trying to get my attention.
edit: i can test this by sending myself an email with a different account that is not associated with my s3 phone and it will not notify that i have received an email until i unlock the screen.
Is this a common problem and is there an obvious setting that I am missing? It seems like the phone is in some kind of standby or sleep mode, but I can't find any options to turn it off.
Another side problem, which I think I've read on here is that my verizon S3 constant reconnects to my local wifi network despite me trying to turn off WIFI on the phone. I read somewhere that verizon has turned that menu setting off to help conserve on their data transfer.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

there is an update that should fix that
Hello all,
I've been having an issue for the past couple of months where most calls to my phone go straight to voicemail (I'll very occasionally receive a call), and I will usually not receive text messages for several hours (toggling on/off airplane mode will sometimes force them to show up, but making an outbound call will always result in any pending text messages being received). When I do receive text messages, they all show up at once.
Note that the data connection is working perfectly fine - I can be browsing the internet no problem, but not receive calls or texts. Also, the signal is strong all through the area I live/work, and it doesn't matter where I am located, the issue persists.
Any suggestions on what is going on? It is out of warranty, so suspect Google will be no help. It sounds like an issue with the phone not checking in with the cell towers, and I also purchased the phone directly from Google, so I suspect T-Mobile won't be much help either (I'll be checking with them sometime this weekend, though).
Things I have tried:
1. Factory reset phone.
2. Removed and wiped off SIM card.
3. Installed newest updates.
4. Turned off all battery saving settings.
5. Messed with manually creating an APN according to T-Mobile's site, and played around with the settings.
Thank you
EDIT: I downloaded a cellular status app, and it looks like I see "Service State: Out-Of-Service" when I'm unable to receive texts. At times that I receive them, it says "In-Service." "Sim State" is always "ready," regardless.
EDIT 2: Looks like this is only happening when LTE is selected. If I switch to 3G, everything always works (EDIT 2: Just had a test call fall to go through. All test texts have succeeded, though). On LTE, it only works intermittently.
