Anybody know how to add a map in Tomtom 5?, I have copied Deutschland-Map to my SPV M500 but my Tomtom does not recognize it.
I have tried to modify a file in MyDocuments called "CurrentMap.dat" by way of copy the file on my PC and open it with a notepad. In my case the maps were located on the Storage Card then just insert the path where the maps are located. I.E : \Storage Card\Deutschland-Map\ but still it doesn't work...!! :? Any idea would be highly appreciated..!!!
take the card out soft reset then put the card back in if that doesnt do it try a soft reset with the card in
tomtom map not found
I found this to be a problem also. I've got all the maps on the storage card along side the GREAT BRITAIN map and it doesn't pick them up.
I also tried amending the CURRENTMAP.DAT file to reflect the correct path, but nothing changes. Has anyone else suffered with this that could help us please? as this is getting really frustrating.
yes, this makes frustration as Tomtom5 doesn't pick the extra map like Deutschland, Great Britain, Spain etc etc.
In this case, my standard map is Benelux so after I modify the file called "currentmap.dat" in Tomtom folder like : \Storage Card\Deutschland-Map\, it always returns to Benelux map and no other map options.
Before I changed that file the size was about 31kb, after I changed it became 62kb, however...once I started Tomtom to see whether it picked the Deutschland map, it returned to the original size of 31kb.....****t...!!! (
anyone can help me pleasseee...?

map not found
I simpley reinstalled the Tom Tom 5 software and it found the maps straight away!
I found this solution for me.
In each map folder there is a PNA file, e.g. Great_Britain-Map.PNA, this can be opened with notepad.
The last line of this PNA file for the maps that did work no problem were all the same number, 566. So, I opened their PNA file and changed that number to be the same as the maps that did work and bingo. it picked them up.
Give it a go.

USA Maps
I don't have the USA maps for TomTom 5....can anyone help me out!?
Matt
I had this problem when i first used TomTOm
The way i got it working was to install again but make sure you install the benalux map, leave it there then add your own maps.
Once your map is installed and youve ran TomTom, swap to your map then you can remove the benalux map.
Hello,
This has got me pulling my hair out of my already balding head !.
I have TomTom Nav 6 on an old Pocket PC (HP 2210), and the full 7-digit postcode search works perfectly on it.
I loaded the very same software onto my Himalaya and i cannot for the life of me get the full 7-digit postcode search !. It defaults to 3/4 figure postcode (e.g. DH8).
I have searched through various forums and have even installed a fullpostcode.cab (for the UK) file and it still doesn't work !!.
I also put an empty "Tomtom" folder in the navigator folder (as suggested on various forums), this again didn't work !
I know if i install TomTom Nav 6 on the Himalaya's main memory then this would probably solve the problem, but i cannot as i don't have enough room on the Himalaya (i have tried deleting other progs, but it doesn't free up enough space !). I threrfore have to install it on the 1GB SD card (but this is EXACTLY the same setup as on my HP Ipaq 2210, and it works great on there !!!)
The 7-digit postcode feature DID work for a while a few nights back, but then stopped working the day after! (so i know it IS possible for it to work properly on there!).
Can anyone please suggest what i could do because the 7-digit postcode lookup feature is much more useful since i prefer searching using the full postcode facility.
Best Regards,
Andrew
what version of tomtom 6 is it, you are running. Have you tried the latest version http://rapidshare.com/files/91182629/ttn_6_032_8351.cab
try that and see if it fixes your problem
Cheers for the quick reply, it's version 6.000. Thing is i have the very same version of Tomtom on my Ipaq2210, installed on a SD card etc, and it works perfectly on there, so cannot figure out why it's not working on the Himalaya. Also the fact that the full postcode search worked fine the other night, then just stopped working makes me wonder !
Regards,
Andrew
do you have the zip folder on the card the postcode data is in that folder ?
yeah, the zip is in the SD folder where all the other files are, as is the "Tomtom" empty folder (which was suggested by some people). The same structure as what's on the Ipaq2210 (whick works fine !!)
Regards
Andrew
try the new version i posted and see if that works, i have the full postcode working fine on the sd card
Hello, the version you uploaded won't work for me. It produces the error "Unable to start, an exception occurred: memory Access Violation" after running it upon installation !
Best Regards
Andrew
well i would assume that ,that is the problem, memory restrictions, as you dont have enough ram available and that is why it is only allowing you 5 postcodes instead of 7. As i have said i have it working fine on an xda 2. Using that cab i posted
i can remember people having this postcode file on their SD card and working fine tho !, just don't know why it doesn't work with mine, or why it worked one night on it then from then on it hasn't !!
Cheers,
Andy
Don't know if you have sorted this out but - The zip file normaly has to be placed in the same folder as the program file, but it will work if it is left on the SD card with a shortcut back to the program folder. This gives you a bit more room in the PDA memory.
I forgot to mention that the tomtom cab i posted is only for WM5
For Clarity on this one...
I had exactly same problem on Kaiser, postcode and voices worked one minute, then not the next.
To get it working I moved the voices folder to the PDA itself (Navigator Folder) not a size issue for me as i only moved 'Jane' data05.vif and chk
I then deleted the configuration file (collected.ini) in the voices folder, this means you then have to reselect voice in preferences.
Also moved the 'zip' folder to Navigator folder on the Kaiser.
All ok now.. HTH

I am trying to change the navigation software on my PackardBell Compasseo 420 from Destinator to Tomtom 7. But I have hit a wall...
I am able to get the desktop showing on the Compasseo. It is a cut-down WM5, i.e. some stuff missing, amongst other iexplore.exe if it ever was part of WM5, I don't know.
I upload Tomtom 7 to the storage card and try to start it. It seems to be compatible, but after the loading screen, it prompts me that there is no card and I can download one for free. But to do that I need iexplore.exe and it is not present. TT7 quits after the "iexplore not found" error and that is as far as I get.
I have found a ie61 package but can't start it (fails right away, not sure why). I see some registry files, but the only registry editor I found cannot read the files.
So here I am, asking for pointers. I can upload a TT7 map to the card, but cannot activate the map as TT7 wont display the device ID without having a map first which it cannot get because iexplore doesn't exist (not sure if network even works).
Any ideas?
It seems the device id is written in the ttnavigator.bif file, but I still can't make TT find the map I have.
Hello All,
I have recently got TomTom Navigator and I have the North American map loaded up nicely, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the voices loaded.
I downloaded the Ozzy Swearing voice, and got the 3 necessary files I need, but I put them in every damn folder that has to do with TomTom and still no available voices show up in the application?
First, I created a folder called "Voices" on the root of the storage card, as I was instructed to do, but that didn't work.
Second, I went to Storage Card-->Program Files-->Navigator-->Sounds, and put the 3 files there. Still nothing.
Third, I found "TomTom" folder at My Device-->TomTom. I didn't create this folder, so i assume the app created it on the install. Anyways I put the 3 files there and again nothing.
Fourth, I went to My Device-->My Documents and created "TomTom" folder and dumped the 3 files in that folder. One forum said this might work, and it didn't unfortunately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the current version and map pack I am using on my HTC HD2.
TomTom Navigator v7.910.9185
TomTom Maps of North America v8.45.2647

Hey the original didn't have a voice folder by default. The voice folder is created after adding your first voice. Just thought you should know.
Buy the original software from tomtom website and you'll see the difference ...You said :"The voice folder is created after adding your first voice" . So where is the problem in fact because you said "First, I created a folder called "Voices" on the root of the storage card, as I was instructed to do, but that didn't work." So folder is created after install in the right place, not necessary to create it manually ...
maps
Hi,
thank you for the tips!
Now I still can't figure out how to load the maps.
I have a file called "France" that I tried to place everywhere, but I can't find a place where it works (tomtom tells me that I don't have any map).
Should I create a new folder like for the voices?
I tried to create a "CurrentMap.dat" (real dat, no txt) file set to "& \Carte Stockage\France\" that I put in "HTC HD_mini_T5555\Carte Stockage\My Documents\TomTom", but not result.
Any idea why it still says that I have no map?
Thank you.
It has to be activated first. You can do that on the TomTom site
Hi,
a problem is that I can't use "active sync" on my computer, nor any program that require windows update to get installed, because windows update is not working (don't know why, it's a real version). Anyway... no active sync for me.
That's why I can't load the first free map too.
Is there a surefire way to download maps so the transformer does not need to be wifi/tethered to run this as a stand alone GPS?
I ran across this, anyone used it?
Brut Google Maps 4.6.0.4686-brut17
Not tried that one you mention but this one works great.
Cheers. Just tried that and found it very good. Even has a map with local bus route overlays.

I couldn't find a way to tell it to download the maps in full only small squares.
I had downloaded it on my droid x and it worked great. But it won't download maps to the transformer... My apologies.
Another way..

Hi, You dont say if you have an android phone, BUT if you had a rooted HTC Desire. (am sure it would work with any other htc that has car panel). (my sig says the one im using).
You could do the following;
Either Download a free app from the android market called "OntheflyBackup" run the app and you will now have the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" and backups of all your other programs so its a win win situation. Or if your winrar savvie just extract the files from a Rom.
Now;
1, Run "Carpanel" app on the phone.
2 Select Get More, and download the maps you want (wifi enabled for speed)
3, Open the sd card either through data link or removing the card from the phone. Look in the folder ".data" you will see a folder "navigator"
4, Now copy this folder to a new ".data" folder on the "Internal" Sd card you acn see in the file explorer on the transformer. It must be in this one and Not the external Sd card.
5, Copy the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" to downloads or any other folder on the card. placed in the Transformer.
6, On the Transformer, install the two apps and then run "Navigation". The car panel Wont look the same as on the phone It dosnt have the get more button, But will allow you to Navigate to anywhere on the maps you have selected.
Ive tried this from the UK to a area in Germany and it worked for me.

Thanks,
Unfortunately I have symbian phone - hope to get an android phone soon, but just don't use anything but email and calender as far as a "smart phone". And right now I have 15/month unlimited data plan. If I switch to a "smart phone" then ATT will hit me for large data plan.
Oruxmaps enables you to view online maps from many sources including Google Maps.
It will also let you define a location and surrounding area and it will then cache all the Google Maps tiles (or any other service's tiles) to your SD card. You can even define several zoom levels to store for each area.
It does a lot more than just that and is free on the market.
